Arietta of Spirits is a cute-looking action-adventure game. I thought that it is going to be a calm and relaxing experience. I have been very wrong. It took me several months and several attempts to finish this game. I was not able to play it for a long time during one session. I needed breaks from it despite the lenght of the game, because it was that boring and that bad. Let's start with big, empty map where …

Solid, short top-down Zelda-like, just a nice length for the linear story and level design. Great art, decent sound. Controls are fine; I wouldn't call them snappy, but neither do they get in the way. A thoughtful story about a girl (and her family) who finds she has powers to see spirits, that pulls your heart strings a bit as it starts wrapping up, but with a hopeful note for a sequel. I love that they ground the …

Holy moly this game hits right in the feels. There were 3 moments in the game where i was like "am I gonna cry" and that doesn't happen very often for me. 8/10 game, maps are way too big so navigation is a pain, but the story is SO GOOD that its 100% worth it. Grab this game like right now!!

Arietta of Spirits is a a Zelda clone that aspires to explore more mature themes alongside its familiar gameplay mechanics, a delightful journey filled with nostalgic charm and beautiful pixel art. The short gameplay doesn't overstay its welcome and keeps you engaged throughout. The artistic direction is a standout feature, with vibes that instantly captivate you and immerse you in its world. Very charming 2D Zelda-like game, with colorful retro graphics and great characters and story. The environments and enemies are very repetitive, but the dungeons and boss fights are great. I'm looking forward to more games from this talented developer!

neutral · AI labelView post →This game is delightful with a beautiful concept, however, I found it impossible to play from midgame on. There is no in game navigation, and this becomes a massive issue after more of the exploration areas gets unlocked. After roaming around for almost an hour trying to get to the next quest objective, I gave up on this game I feel this can easily be solved by intoducing a map to reference or some in game guidence system. Its a pity, I really wanted to enjoy this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's some heart and charm to this, but I don't think it overcomes the negatives. The main being the combat - it's not particularly fun, and while a lot of it is just kinda "boring but guess I have to do it", the final boss is truly one of the worst designed I've seen, where a ton of damage you take comes down to RNG which means your success comes down to RNG. But on top of that, I expected a very story driven, kind of explore / walking simulator type thing with a small touch of combat, but…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't know how this got 86% positive. It's utterly forgettable. It takes roughly 4 hours to beat. You get a shield around hour 2 which let's you block. Which is a huge bonus since the dogs they give you doesn't give iframes. There is no map which is because I think they don't want you to know how small the world is. Combat feel clunky, the controls feel bad. The story is meh. Nothing to recommend.

Nothing about it is very creative or specifically interesting. Its story is cute but very basic and childish. Its gameplay is very simple and straightforward, but doesn't bring much to the table. Its graphics are pretty enough, but don't have any strong art direction either. ❌ The…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice little game for one evening PROS + nice story + nice atmosphere CONS - combat is inaccurate and clunky making this seemingly simple game difficult at times - the Grandmaster achievement is BS and not worth anyones time, it brings the worst part of the game (combat) and makes it one hit run
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Eh... it's ok but I got about 40% done with the game and just lost interest. Go here for some story info, then go here for some more story info, collect some stuff for collecting purposes. Story was ok I guess, nothing groundbreaking but not dumb or cringe, and the kid is a well designed character. Combat could be better the sword range is nonexistent and hitting stuff diagonally felt unpolished. It's pretty but doesn't have much depth. If you're into very lite Zelda-like games and don't mind…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think this game is what you get when a developer's got the chops, but decides to reign things in and limit the scope of their game to focus on just getting it done. As such, this Zelda-like game feels like it's missing a lot of meat, which I'd gander is being saved for the sequel. So on one hand, it's got nice stuff like challenging and well-tuned combat and boss fights; Certified Honorary Ye Olde "charming indie pixel art" graphics; and dopamine-releasing progression systems. On the other…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I liked this game enough to re-buy it on Steam for Steam Deck portability after having already bought and finished it on the Xbox when it first released last year. It's kind of superficially similar to one of the isometric Zeldas like Link to the Past but pared down and more combat-oriented, without much in the way of puzzles etc. Combat is simple--you have a sword attack, a defensive force field, and a dodge roll and that's it--but it makes up for it with a nice bit of challenge; it's not…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm sorry, I know it's a small project. Just can't recommend it. In a day & age where there's plenty of small projects you gotta bring a bit more to the table. Take for instance Children of Morta with snappier pixel-arty-hack-n-slash combat, A story of dealing with loss is dealt with more thoughtfully in Röki. Quirky NPCs? Look at a game like Sable. I thought the ending came too suddenly, leaving too much of the interpersonal drama between Arie and her parents to the imagination. I really…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A charming little game that is again on the shorter side, but that's fine because it's one of the most quality four hours of gameplay (insert the obligatory Angry Joe meme here) you'll ever get to experience. The story is engaging and heartfelt, and in my opinion parallels a lot of the current (and let's face it, as old as humanity itself) world issues, serving as a great cautionary tale. Gotta get that quota of politics in video games up high, boys. In this case it's even funnier because it's…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you want a simple game, which is not overloaded in both twists and mechanics of game, you might give it a try. Reminds GBA The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap in some ways. Takes 4 hours to complete.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Zelda if it was a grindy unrewarding mess. The only reason it's 5 hours and not 2 is because it puts so many enemies in your way. Writing is... okay. Nothing special.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun little action adventure with awesome pixel art like a long lost TurboGrafx 16 game. Excellent music too. I like how it was open world yet felt mostly linear and easy to navigate. The combat is simple which is fine. Achievements are really good since they're mostly progression based aside from a few for collectibles and completing the game on hardest difficulty. There's options to turn off screen shake and advance the text faster or instant which was great. It took me less than 4 hours…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game works fine, story, art, everything is there, there is no bug, its a game "well made" with that being sad the level design is horrible, all rooms are similar, so there is no variety. Some times you get a little lost because all the rooms are exactly the same. Also the gameplay is super simple and its pretty much pointless to kill any enemy besides filling you heart. So you just pass by the game dashing around. So if you just want to play something super simple, finish the game in 3h, go…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If I could give this a middling review instead of a negative I definitely would. I certainly don't think Arietta is a bad game, its just also not a particularly good game. The game's description and highlighted reviews call it an "emotionally-driven narrative" but I felt it more often said something and expected emotionally reactions rather than developing reactions naturally them through narrative or gameplay. Speaking of gameplay, combat and movement in general feel clunky and dated. I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Arietta of Spirits was such a nice game for the Steam Deck. It does have a somber mood, but the pixel art and story was nice and it is easily completed under 5 hours. Great weekend game. margotplays.substack.com/p/reviews-ar... #steamdeck #indiegames
positive · AI labelView post →Fun game, well made, stable and a good difficulty level. There's just 1 achievement that I'm not even going to try. The extreme mode - you only have 1 hitpoint. Just - no way.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Arietta of Spirits is fantastic! It can be a treat between every long game you play. - short n sweet - open area to explore - linear story-based progression - no puzzles - emotional and mature story - it respects your time ###My complaint is the last achievement that requires the completion of a second playthrough in a bloody difficult mode. Idk what the dev was thinking. Everything about the game is great but they choose to ruin it with this.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its ok pretty, but character portraits looks sad most of the time slightly clunky gameplay, responsive but not great overall sad game runs well on any computer
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Arietta of Spirits is an enjoyable ~3-hour game where you must uncover the mysteries of spirits and an abandoned mine in the woodlands near your home. Pros: - Game looks lovely, both environments and characters. - Music is nice - UI is simple but very polished. - Story is simple but enjoyable. - Traveling from one outdoor area to the next is ~instantaneous. Cons: - No sword levelups or upgrades to make revisiting early areas easier. All enemies will take 2-3 hits to kill, for the entire…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a cute and comfy adventure action game! Arietta of Spirits is also very beautiful to look at too with the pixel art. Raided into Charlottexbear's stream, and while she doesn't have a Bluesky, she does have a Twitch and celebrating her birthday: www.twitch.tv/charlottexbear #Twitch #Vtuber
positive · AI labelView post →Short, but sweet. Zelda-lite (very lite, there's only two sidequests) game that favors an aggressive run-down style of play - just make sure you avoid the tar trails enemies leave behind. Story-wise, its alright, but it feels like half a story. If there's plans for a sequel, I'd be interested.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →#Arietta of Spirits was short #indie game and simple by design, but it has heart on right side. I was moved by little adventure of young girl and her spirit companion. And #pixelart was really good! I recommend it :)
positive · AI labelView post →A beautiful little indie gem. The pixel art is gorgeous, the story is heartfelt, and the gameplay is a charming blend of action-adventure and exploration. It's short but sweet - the kind of game that respects your time and leaves a lasting impression. The spirit companion mechanic adds a nice twist to the combat. Perfect for a weekend afternoon.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Perfect way to spend an afternoon. Relatable characters, fantastic setting, fun simple gameplay, deeper-than-expected story and dialog.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great little game. Cute pixel art, fitting music, relatively unique bosses and great dialogue and story.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Big day today. I have finally finished a game again. Granted, it was very short, probably took around 4 hours, but still. And the game is pretty good. It's called Arietta of Spirits. It's very simple but fun. And it's both really cute and surprisingly dark. Played it on Switch 2.
positive · AI labelView post →Very good game for newcomers to the arpg genre! But for veterans like me its quite shallow. I still enjoyed it tho !! got this on sale and it is pretty worth it. Now the one thing that i think its going to be a disliked aspect for everyone that plays this is the "RESPAWNING ENEMIES AFTER AREA SWITCH" everytime you go back to an map that you already cleared all the enemies are going to be back also and theres no point actually in killing them because the only thing they give you its health…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a fantastic game! The bosses are fun, the environment keeps throwing new hazards at you, and the little goo guys are adorable. The story pulled me in and the ending was amazingly done! I love that the game was short too, it gave the story enough time to be engaging without dragging it out (like so many games do these days, to the point of losing their hook). My only criticism is that the dialogue sometimes felt forced/unnatural in the beginning of the game, but that feeling quickly…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A short and sweet game to play, totally worth buying, expecially on sale. The gameplay is simple and despite the game is not that long (about 4 hours of gameplay) the narrative is good and keeps you connected with the characters
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Arietta of Spirits is a top-down action-adventure game about a girl and her spirit otter communing with ghosts. Beat it using a game controller in 3.7 hours on Normal difficulty. This game has multiple difficulty choices. Gameplay: You slash a sword and dodge your way past angry blobs and angrier bees through a handful of areas on an island. There's no jumping or running. Sometimes the way is blocked and you need to find an alternative route! I had a little trouble judging the slash range…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is kinda like a Zelda clone so they said but the game is very guided and doesn't ever feel like your exploring. Maybe about 3-4 hrs to completion and 0 exploration. It is a - for me maybe it would be OK as free but the money was just a waist honestly.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is one of those games that feels like it ends just as it's getting started. It's very light on playtime, content, gameplay, and story, but if you're looking for a light and breezy, vaguely Zelda-like game to spend an afternoon with, you could do much worse than this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL;DR - Arietta of Spirits is a short action-adventure game with an interesting story about a young girl who is dealing with loss and finds out she has a supernatural "medium-like" ability. Controls are clunky at times but not too bad. Due to its length, I would wait for it to be on sale. I played the game using a docked Steam Deck and a Steam Controller with no serious issues. I completed it on normal and then again on extreme (for that last darn achievement). As far as difficulty goes,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very nice game a bit short (3-4 hours) totally worth it if on sales
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Imagine hating socialising so much, that you are happy that you die and be a ghost, so no one can talk to you and you can just make imaginary birdhouses. Very interesting character.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very fun game! doesn't overstay it's welcome and I hope that a sequel comes from this. I highly recommend this :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a pretty good game made by a small team. The combat is engaging and not too easy (I played on normal difficulty), the world itself is fairly big. Overall, it's a good game, but there's still room for polish and even room for the game itself to grow, should the team ever want to revisit and expand it. Once thing that tripped me up a couple times was the hitbox of my weapon, which is fairly small, so i attack an enemy, but it's JUST out of reach, which can be super annoying. Other than…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Quite nice and cute little game. The pixel art is smooth and appealing to the eyes. 2-3 types of terains and around 5-6 different areas (if you count them as a whole). Well created areas that follow a strict road. You need to go to area A and the road leads there. Some variation in enemies and a good enough story to follow. Gameplay wise it is a simple adventure game. Fighting is not difficult, but I have not played the extreme difficulty where you die at one hit. I had some issues with the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a casual gamer, this game is pretty mid. Combat is a little annoying, with no real strategy, but mostly forgiving. Still, after several attempts at the final boss on normal difficulty, I couldn't even survive long enough to reach the first opportunity to hit the boss. So, balance issues. The story itself is good, and there's not enough of it. It would be fine if combat were better, but neither the story nor the gameplay shines on its own. I'm starting to prefer the explanation that…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Combat isn't very tight which is a problem in this type of game but it's a nice short story. I think it's worth it for the story ^^
