What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 224 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (6,103 of 6,640 positive).
Many players find the game has a steep learning curve but becomes deeply rewarding once the handling clicks. [1][2][3] Several reviewers praise the game's art style, soundtrack, and ability to induce a meditative flow state. [4][5][6][7] Some players criticize the car handling as overly slippery or finicky, especially at low speeds. [8][9][10][11]

I don't recommend this game if vehicle handling feel is important to you. And i'm not on some rant because i hate the game or its developers or because i'm being biased, i bought this game because i saw it a couple of times on YouTube and saw it recommended to me on the steam store page, i tried it, didn't like it and now im giving my criticism.- -having enjoyed many arcade-ish racing games with some experience …

First 3 or 4 hours for me was trying to understand and get the hang of the car physics and controls. I dialled the controller sensitivity to my taste, turned assists off but left ABS at 10%, and kept struggling HARD. But then all of a sudden, I realise I'm chaining turns together, I'm hitting the straights hard, braking last second and flowing through hairpin turns - the bass drops and an insanely delicious beat …

The Art of Rally combines a timeless art style, good physics, and a genuine passion for rally to create one of the best racing games of all time. It's just you and the road. The lack of competitors or other distractions allow you to reach a flow state more easily than any other game I have played. The environment is vibrant but not distracting, with each location having a unique color palette. Iconic cigarette/oil …

This has become my favorite racing game. It sits comfortably at the intersection between arcade and simulation handling. This strikes the perfect balance for my taste and allows me to attain flow state quickly and consistently. What an absolute pleasure to drive through the beautifully minimalist countrysides of the world in some classic rally cars. There is definitely a learning curve. I initially struggled to keep …

tldr: Steep learning curve at the beginning, but it gets super incredibly once you're clicked with the handling. I personally am not experienced in rally games but dabble around other, more realistic titles, in comparasion Art of Rally is hard to grasp its unique handling at first. Cars have a tendency to do long drift and are sensitive to throttle and brake (prominent weight transfer), which makes them feel heavy …

60 of 325 · most liked firstNot Bad, But Overrated I saw this game everywhere and everyone was praising it. With a 93% positive rating on Steam, I expected something great. But honestly, I do not think the same. I played many mobile rally games before, and this game feels just like them. It feels more like a mobile game port rather than a real PC game. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3686119086 I know the developers tried to make a different game with a cute art style, and driving is not the only…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game! I was looking for a nice-looking, low-effort casual driving game, as I'm the complete opposite of a petrolhead. Long story short: this game got me hooked on rallying. I'm now reading articles on the historical vehicles that inspired the game's cars, I've turned my driving assists down almost to zero, and I'm practicing advanced driving maneuvers like the Scandinavian Flick. I'm even working on improving my lap times by a second or two each run. This has also become my go-to…

I first played this on Xbox, low frames and heavy steering and all, but I enjoyed it a lot. The graphics look basic but the game is somewhat surprisingly beefy, 720p with everything on low-mediums. I'll get to that. This plays awesomely. By default it's very heavy, which suits earlier gameplay, but later on I recommend dropping the assists to 0, and…

neutral · AI labelView post →I really wanted to like this game, the art style is amazing and the physics engine is consistent. However, the controls are just too finicky for a rally game, especially at low speeds. I shouldn't have to fight to control my car on a small curve at 15 mph on a paved, or even dirt road.

I even got a picture in the game by pressing the menu button and I got it so it will be my background for my computer and also I really like rallying I want to be a rally driver actually so I will rate this game a 11/10 because its so good and if you just like arcade like games this will not really be for you because at first it looks like a arcade game but…

I'm pretty sure they based it off of the handling from absolute drift. I don't really know if i can call it bad but it certainly isnt fun to learn in this context. Why would you make a rally game without pace notes. it's really frustrating to go around a blind turn that suddenly tightens at the end. I'm pretty sure the devs were aware of how annoying this is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tonight's cosy driving game demo, Over The Hill. Same folks as Art Of Rally (obvious from the graphics) but I actually think the aesthetic and third-person camera view suit a slow-paced 4x4 game better. Sort of like a non-frustrating Spintires/Mudrunner. Multiplayer will be fun I think.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played so much of this game. I love rally, i love racing games, everything about this game entices me and grabs my attention. Its beautiful, goes through all of the groups of old rally and has pretty much every single iconic car that there is to want to play the game. The amount of modes after the career is amazing, and the game is simple and enjoyable. But there are some flaws of this game that i don't think the average player base will be able to handle unless you can thoroughly look past…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Art of rally is the most beautiful racing game I've played. It has also served as a great introduction to the world of rally games for me. Highly recommend for everyone to play this game. One important note: I was experiencing significant lag spikes for the first few hours of playing. This was fixed when I changed the vegetation renderer, so if you are experiencing similar problems, try changing that. [Update after 50 hours] Pretty fun game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Normally wouldn't write a paragraph about a game, but this game's physics frustrates me so much. I have driven alot of rally "sim" and arcade titles, and this one has the most unpredictable handling and feel out of every game I tried. The car feels unnaturally unstable yet it brakes super duper well.. It always have less or more grip than I thought. What throws me off constantly is that the car has super low grip but it has an incredible front end bite like it just turns instantly but then…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ah yes, my gateway into Rally games. To be blunt, i've never liked cars. To me they are loud, dangerous instruments that have caused more death than any other vehicle ever invented. As for virtual cars, the extent of my experience with them was on the family Playstation, many years ago, during long afternoons when Tekken 3 and Crash Bandicoot had gotten old and i was desperate for entertainment. And yet, on the 22nd of november 2020, some glowing reviews and a fantastic soundtrack convinced…

neutral · AI labelView post →Pretty and minimalistic art direction, but the minimalism also applies to the gameplay itself to its own detriment. There is a limited number of inputs the game itself registers. Meaning you are going to have tons of trouble navigating slight bends, trying to control a slide, or quite literally going straight. These inputs are, seemingly, delayed too. You can set steering speed to 100%, max out your turning input, and your car does absolutely nothing for a moment, before either understeering…

One of the most enjoyable and addicting games I've ever played. HIGHLY recommend. And if rally isn't you taste, same creator is creating an adventure 1970's off roader. Funselektor is goated.

neutral · AI labelView post →I remember seeing this game announced during quarantine, played the (now gone) itch.io demo and liked it. The 6R4 and Escort were entertaining for me, and even if I wasn't a fan of the art direction in the game and minimalism, I still found the demo fun and enjoyable. If I hadn't bought the full game, I'd probably keep that perspective and would've moved on. I think you could tell from this review that I made the wrong choice. For $25, I'd expect better for the price. More if you include the…

neutral · AI labelView post →The driving physics are super weird and unintuitive. The game is kind of advertised as a relaxing experience but I can't relax when the core mechanic of the game is so frustrating. The sensitivity curve for the steering starts off way too aggressive and slacks off too much at the end, and there's no way to adjust it. The tire grip feels inconsistent and is difficult to predict. The camera angle is basically top-down and zoomed way out, which makes it difficult to watch how your car is oriented…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Finished an excellent low poly love letter to the golden age of rally called Art of Rally. Lots of content. Difficult but fun handling. Perfect little Steam Deck 'pick up and play' game. One of the only games to capture the absolutely psychotic crowds back then too, albeit superficially.

neutral · AI labelView post →Insanely intuitive driving system. I love the way different surfaces feel, i love how the cars will have higher torque lower in the power band, which makes slippery surfaces perform better at lower rpm which is accurate to irl. Just chefs kiss all around, well done, i will be sinking many more hours into this game. HIGHLY recommend a controller.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I sadly would not recommend the game for the driving experience. Take a turn at 5mph and still slide off the road. Doesn't feel like there's any skill progression in the game. Sound: 100% Visual: 100%
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i came for a low poly graphics game but i stayed because i couldnt stop saying (one more stage)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A breath of fresh air. Many people complain about cars handling. I know they are little on slippery slide but the control problem is largely due to bird's eye camera where one is unable to judge speed based on corner. If devs had given bonet cam, it would become an action racer and not a meditative racer that it is currently. It forces you to enjoy the pleasant scenery and keeps you in a state of flow. A brilliant game.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a sleeper hit this turned out to be for me. I've been playing rally games since the early Colin McRae Rally days, and art of rally definitely makes my top 5. It's a great little sim-inspired arcade racer. I wouldn’t call it a pure arcade game because the driving model clearly has a lot of care put into it. Yes, I know the “sim racing” crowd will probably start ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ their pants hearing that, but their weak colons usually can’t even handle the mention of a controller in a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got this came cause it looks pretty neat, and there were some positive reviews about how this game is a 'love letter to rally'. Its not very good though. The physics are just plain bad. The car slides around like its on ice ALL THE TIME. Driving on ice feels more grippy than on tarmac, and if there is rain, the car slides if you just look at doing anything to the controls. What makes this wose is the camera angles. Your choice of camera angles are a very very far chase, an even…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The concept is great, but the execution is poor. with an RTX 3060 I've set it to 1080p low to get a decent frame rate on some maps. With 4K on the lowest settings with all the optional graphics turned completely off, or as low as they would go, I would still get constant stutters that would drop down to the low 20 FPS, which makes the game unplayable. For example, Bioshock remastered a much older game plays at 4k at 40% GPU and it looks way better. holds 60 FPS no problem.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yeah i think im done with the game and Its overall Fun game but gets repititive once you get used to it. At first It feel so difficult to control the cars and the camera angle is also different here so it makes it seem like you are driving slow. So when you try to speed up, you lose the control. So the trick was to drive slow and early brakes. After than it just depends on different type of cars you use. some are easy to handle some harder. I completed like 80% of career mode and 3 free…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Another game that highlights the need for a neutral option. It's okay - but NOT okay at the full price of $32.50 CAD. It is gorgeous and has a lot of potential - but the over tuned physics are too much of a headache to justify full asking price. I'm not an expert driver - but in my limited experience I have never witnessed a car sliding like a skater across a tarmac taking a slight turn at 10kph. Nor can I get 2+ seconds of air time by going over an incline at 20 kph. The physics are *almost*…

positive · AI labelView post →Game's really really fun, but sometimes it just starts stuttering like mad, for no reason. A game with this artstyle and age should not be running like this. Especially when the game requires a not insignificant amount of precision to nail certain corners. It's already cost me several rallies, as it makes it supremely difficult to judge speed and steering angle.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →1. The visuals are stunning. Even with simpler graphics, the game looks absolutely gorgeous. The cars and liveries are iconic and look sharp, while the landscapes and weather effects are just breathtaking 2. Surprisingly tough. I didn't expect an arcade racer to offer such a solid challenge. On max difficulty, it’s brutal, one tiny mistake and you're done It’s such a shame, but the constant lag spikes have completely killed the vibe. I've spent a good few months slowly making my way through the groups, playing a course here and there, and I never truly got bored of it. The controls are, for my money, pretty solid.
