Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 191 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mixed (2,145 of 3,334 positive).
Players are divided on whether Atelier Yumia is a good game but a bad Atelier title. [1][2][3] Many praise the open world and exploration, while others find it poorly executed. [4][5][6] The simplified alchemy system is a common disappointment for long-time fans. [7][8][9]

Long-time fan of the Atelier series. I went into Yumia wanting to love it, but this doesn't feel like an Atelier game at all, it's missing all the charm that made me fall in love with the series. The alchemy system, feels totally gutted, uninspired and boring. I had no motivation to engage with it. When you play an Atelier game, sometimes you just gather and craft for hours on end without progressing the story at …

Atelier Yumia is fun game honestly! I've played every single atelier, including the Japanese exclusives, and I can see the different approaches they went for in this new title that also seems to be inviting players from other playerbase outside of the series niche aspects. Those who really enjoy an action packed Jrpg, with a dark tone story line and a stereotypical, but well familiarised and loved character troupes …

Atelier Yumia is a difficult game to recommend unless you really want to play every single Atelier game, or you just play a lot of JRPGs. I don't think there is anything special about this game to warrant prioritizing it over masterpieces like Xenoblade Chronicles 1-3, Atelier Ryza 1-3, or Atelier Sophie if you haven't played those yet. I played this game for over 70 hours, so it certainly isn't awful, but there are …

This is a good game. But it is definitely not an atelier game. it is the definition of experimental and it genuinely should've been branded as a completely new sub-franchise... There's so much good but everything feels half assed when you think this should be an atelier game. This is just a JRPG set in the atelier universe. That's it.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The more I play this the more you realize just how poorly constructed it is. Short recap: 1) The open world thing does not work period. The initial region, at least, is loaded with extremely jagged rocky mountains so that your field of view is constantly obstructed. This is done to optimize polygons on screen but makes for horrendous game play - you're constantly looking a grey rocks. 2) The UI is horrible. There's no unity and everything is very poorly thought out. Some stuff you…

neutral · AI labelView post →It's not a bad game, on some aspects it's a better game than Ryza 3, sadly it failed on the most important part. To cut to the chase, the alchemy system is awful. They simplified it way too much: there’s no traits (kinda), all the ingredients are the same, and item rebuild is useless. Basically, it’s brainless, 99% of the time there’s only one thing that matters on an ingredient (the resonance) and you just always use the ingredient with the highest resonance. I played the whole Ryza trilogie…

neutral · AI labelView post →This game is just mediocre. Personally, I felt like I just barely got the return on the time invested, and if I could go back in time knowing how it went to decide again, I would probably choose against playing it, hence the negative rating. Now, while I am giving a "Not recommended", I will admit that this is not a bad game per se. It is very easy to play and visually very pleasing. If all you want is a pretty, easy game to play without thinking too hard, this fits the bill nicely. Personally…

neutral · AI labelView post →Finally to finished the backlog title, bought at full price back in March 2025. There were too many distractions last year that kept me from playing this series. Regarding the Atelier franchise, I had previously only played the Ryza trilogy on Nintendo Switch and became interested in Yumia after seeing its trailer, and with Atelier Karia set two years after Atelier Yumia releasing soon, I’m certainly looking forward to it. While the Ryza series only dabbled in semi-open-world elements,…

neutral · AI labelView post →I really wanted to love Atelier Yumia but I can't. They keep dumbing down the alchemy system with each new series and I can't fool myself into liking this anymore. The characters are probably the strongest part of Yumia but it still wasn't enough to save it.There was so much I wanted to love about Yumia from building my bases to exploring but every time I go to craft an item I'm just left sad and unfulfilled. This is no longer the complex alchemy crafting system I fell in love with.

I played the demo, and from what was in the demo, I really liked it. I preordered this game thinking I was going to enjoy it. I was sadly mistaken. I really tried to give this game a chance. I wanted to love it like I loved Sophie, Lydie and Suelle, Firis, Escha and Logy, Ayesha, Ryza etc. I've played quite a few Atelier titles, and I have to say this is the most disappointing title in…

neutral · AI labelView post →Atelier Yumia will go down as the most love it, or hate it game in the franchise. It's biggest issue being that it does not allign withmany of the Atelier conventions. The game doesn't play much like most every other game, instead opting for a more open world/exploration based adventure then a straight up JRPG. Previous Atelier games like Ryza 3, or Firis also had open world mechanics, but none of them went as far as Yumia does. Because the Atelier fanbase is a dedicated one, this causes…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is essentially a Genshin impact clone. Here are some things I noticed within an hour of gameplay. 1. Yumia shouldn't be running around with her super high heels because her running animation looks awkward. 2. The game's extreme hand-holding bothered me. I am into an hour of the game and still in essentially a tutorial phase. Just. Let. Me. Play. The. Game! Having said that, excessive cut scenes as well, some of which cannot be skipped but can be fast-forwarded. 3. The game has way too…

neutral · AI labelView post →The game is not well optimize even on a powerful pc. In combat there a big white flash that take over the whole game and you have to go into settings to fix it. You can't play this game on low end pc cause it take alot of Vram when a other KT game Atelier Ryza 3 same enige same scope runs better, im running this on RX 7800 with 16gb of vram.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The alchemy system so simplified and poorly tied to the gameplay loop that there is very little reason to explore it in-depth. Its not a game about alchemy, its an RPG with some alchemy elements.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good JRPG, but not for the Atelier part. The alchemy is too easy and too strong too quickly, no challenge. The characters and stroy are entertaining and got me to play til the end. The open world is a bit too big for its own good. The combat system is fun but quickly you become very strong and kill anything in seconds.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game. Yumia has an excellent design, the setting is cool, and the tone reminds me of the Dusk trilogy. However, the alchemy has taken an absolute nosedive. The vast majority of nodes have no specific requirement, so ingredients only really matter for unlocking recipes aside from having 1-4 ingredients that you use to fill every available slot. The trait system is an add-on that's done after alchemy, so the challenge of taking a trait through various stages to get…

Now, why the bad review ? Because it's called ATELIER Yumia. On this side the game is pretty weak. Gust really made it with the idea to "please the western audience". Alchemy, the core of the series, is dumbed down really bad to the point there's no mandatory crafting in the game that requiert anything. No goal at all. You can juste make the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I spent around 40 hours with it, and I would say 30-35 hours of that time was enjoyable. Overall the balance of the game is lopsided. You start the game with an interesting story beat. You are the helpful witch in a group of people surveying the aftermath of a disaster. The common belief is that your kind of magic is why the disaster happened. Thus being on the team has a host of people kicking you down emotionally. The Exploration: Map looks really good and exploration is really easy most of the time. However it gets repetitive quickly, shoot a random thing here, explore ruins there, do some puzzles over there.
