I really wanted to like this game. The freedom of design for the ships is a big draw, the tons of bullets from a bunch of turrets is great. It has everything going for it. The vanilla base game is okay. The shipbuilding is great, and being able to import assets from other games, voxelize them, and drop them right in is genuinely cool. The game sells itself as a sandbox space-combat/light-economy sort of deal—basically an “X4 lite.” But where X4 has a deep, living economy and a world that actually reacts to things (even if it limits your creativity), Avorion is the opposite. Ive owned the game for a long time, and kept coming back to check up on it. Its a great little game, often described as a very casual X4. And while on the surface it looks appealing, the more time you spend playing it you realize the game lacks in alot of area's that it honestly ruins immersion. So what does the game have going for it. Well more than you can expect. - A "Large" "Explorable" galaxy - Factions vying for "control" in the galaxy - Story missions including DLC also, Despite being…

For non-linux users: Great game! If you like micro managing stuff but want a more casual game that does not need a spreadsheet, this game is for you. would recommend. For Linux users: I run Linux Bazzite for gaming & it works great with games both new & old and from a verity of stores like GOG, Steam, Itch.io, & even ported Android games. But for some unknown reason Avorion refuses to run without crashing. The worst part is is that it will run fine for a while (my 200+ hours show this) but…

It's a decent game but every 10 minutes I found something that feels very.. fake? And I wished I was playing x3/x4. Ship orders are fine, but half the time they're not actually doing anything in the world, they just disappear and there's a timer that tells you when they "finish". Factions exist but they're completly static. They don't build stations, they barely have any ships, they don't trade as far as I know. Economy in most places is dead. Even if you find a sector that has A LOT of…

Game has some great ideas. Its a shame they aren't implemented well at all. For some reason if you want to play the game at all, even single player the game must create a server on your computer that you have to connect to. I wanted to like the game, went up to building xanion ships. The overall concept is great and it feels like a passion project. I really like the concept of building up from your ship to managing a fleet and the RTS aspect of it. Being able to switch to a in sector view and command your ships around is great. But the execution is really poor and in many ways it feels like a prototype rather than a full game. The game promises some automation using the captains and even makes your captain…

Overall, I have to leave a thumbs down for Avorion but it isn't an easy one mind you. The game is genuinely good fun and interesting throughout a good portion of the game. Pretty much everything before entering the barrier to the center was a well-paced, interesting experience with a steady buildup of challenge and adventure. This has earned a coveted place on my "scratches the Freelancer itch" shelf of my library. It is often difficult to describe what that means, or why I spend so much time looking for it. On the surface, it is not an overly deep or complicated game, it does not appear to have particularly high production value (no voice actors, minimal texturing, little lore/flavor/story, no flare art, and most of the content is procedurally generated. There is also not much for mission diversity or…

Avorion - An Overhyped Space Mess with Missed Potential I really wanted to like Avorion. The premise sounded amazing: an expansive, dynamic space sandbox where I could design my own ships, blast through enemies with tons of turrets, and maybe even build a vast space empire. The freedom of ship design is a huge hook, and the chaos of firing a thousand bullets at once is undeniably satisfying. But after putting in far too many hours, it's clear: Avorion is a game that has no idea what it wants…

It doesn't have modelled or simulated trade. It's mostly static and completely predictable. Why do much of the game is dedicated to trade makes no sense, when there isn't simulation for it. Setting up trading, manufacturing, mining; it's all an arduous, expensive task that results in a trickle of income while you get to go off with your fleet and play pew pew towards the centre of the galaxy where the narrative leads. This is one of the best games I've ever played. I wish I'd found it sooner! Also one of the best truly open-world game engines I've experienced. Factions are actively at war behind the scenes, while you play. Diplomacy matters. The game gives several options to advance and doesn't require you to grind for…

Nice #openrgb with the effects plugin has an ambient effect that captures the screen and uses the average color information to control LEDs. You also need the visual map plugin so that you can define which LED should react to what square on the screen. This replaces the philips hue app on linux. And as an added bonus works with many other LED lights. It also works with games. Tested it with the beautiful stars and nebulas in #avorion Cool. #linux #openrgb #philipshue

What a monument of a game. Starting from a small blocky mess to commanding a galaxy-spanning empire, soaking in the atmosphere while cruising about in an endless supply of dazzling ships (thank you workshop creators), to inserting entirely new factions... and all in a tiny game, compared to other Space Opera monstrosities on the market. If conquering the Galaxy with {insert favorite space faction} is one of your power fantasies, this game delivers.

For a game made in 2013 I had to lower all the settings to medium and off to get a decent framerate. The first playthrough I barely got anywhere in nearly 20 hours of play. The learning curve is pretty high. I felt like Dr. Malcolm tapping on the screen yelling 'there is 'space in this game right?' All that being said I still enjoy it. The…

Deeply unbaked. Just play X4. One of those games where I spent more time yelling at my monitor and searching discord than actually playing the game. Cool idea, hard pass.

A shooter might be hard, but I think you could make ORION: Prelude fit. It's a little old now, but still fun. You get to shoot dinosaurs and run around big maps. Other games that I'd recommend: Avorion (build your own spaceships and fight and befriend the galaxy) It's not technically a shooter, but depending on whether you pick out lasers, electric tasers, machine guns, or rail guns, there is definitely some aspects of moving to avoid enemy fire while plunking them down. [but don't be like…

Avorion is an absolute gem of a game if you've got enough time to sink some feeling into it. As a player you can mine rocks, fight space pirates (be a space pirate) or trade in a reasonably complex market but the game shines best when you take a step back and become the architect of your own empire. Build ships, hire Captains and found your own stations to become more than a passive slave to the market. Build a flagship for yourself and let the plebs do all the leg work. Above all, find…

The game started out fun. But it just feels repetitive and boring. And that starts to really show how weak the other systems of the game are. The research gambling is just mindless boring clicking. There's no built in way to easily sort out junk equipment. So I just let my inventory clog full of useless garbage. And then you look at mods for this stuff and there's dozens of choices and none of them actually make any more sense. Trying to control large groups of ships in combat is…

I love any game where I can be a trucker of some kind, but isn't a trucking simulator. Love me some logistics and supply chain management.

Very enjoyable, easily get immersed and hours will fly. The ability to make ships/download ships (I am a bit star wars nerd) being able to have a fleet of Venators/acclamators mining/exploring/freight services throughout the galaxy is amazing.

This is a GREAT video game. It's probably not for everyone, but if you are interested in a very fun and solid space exploration experince with amazing customization. Give this a try.

Can run a dedicated server in games like Starbound and Factorio but trying to run a dedicated server in Avorion? Tell them they are dreaming. After two weeks of trying and disappointment, thinking that I would be able to play this game with a friend on a dedicated server, it is now time to give up. Much sadness. Would I recommend this game, no. Given the support, documentation and how the software was written, it should just work but it does not. A five year old game, I would expect a dedicated…

Crazy customization, deep mechanics that can keep you busy, fleets and station management. Every time I get in there is something new to chase after. It even has multiplayer

One of the greatest, most intuitive ship builders I've ever seen in a game
