Some enjoy the chaotic crew management and ship customization. [1][2][3] Others criticize repetitive gameplay, clunky controls, and lack of depth. [4][5][6]

I liked Bomber Crew quite a lot, it was fun. But this game feels like a cheap knock off the original. It's boring and repetitive, you can literally leave the game and go do something else during long, grindy fights. Also it lacks depth of Bomber Crew, there is poor mission variety and progress is tedious. Also lesser module variety and very micromanagement-heavy. Do not recommend.

The gameplay itself is solid. Managing the ship, assigning crew roles, and reacting to emergencies was genuinely fun, especially when things got hectic. That moment-to-moment pressure worked really well and made the game enjoyable to actively play. The issue is that it becomes repetitive too quickly. The core loop doesn’t evolve enough, so after a while it starts to feel like you’ve seen most of what the game has to …

I'm going to review this in two parts: For new players, and for Bomber Crew vets. New Players: Space Crew is a game about doing things well enough, when you don't have quite enough resources, or quite enough time. Imagine juggling, but you absolutely have to drop some of the balls. Only they aren't all balls. Some are glass spheres that will shatter into an irrecoverable mess. Some are grenades, that will end you …

At first, I didn’t quite get what was happening — so many buttons, the crew running around, the ship smoking, and enemies popping up from everywhere 🚀. But the longer I played, the more I got hooked by all this chaos. Every mission feels like a mini adventure: something explodes, someone needs saving, and somehow you make it back home thinking, “Wow, we survived!” The process of building and upgrading your ship is …

Overview: Space Crew: Legendary Edition takes the frantic, fast-paced crew management chaos of Bomber Crew and blasts it into deep space. You’re not just a captain — you’re an overworked multitasker, warping through enemy territory while trying to keep your crew alive, your ship in one piece, and your coffee from floating away. The Legendary Edition adds new missions, gear, a new campaign (the Android Ambush), and …

63% of the 172 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Space Crew: Legendary Edition. The complaint that keeps coming up: gameplay becomes repetitive and shallow quickly. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
The game received mixed or average reviews, according to review aggregator Metacritic. Rock Paper Shotgun praised the game's ability to make players feel like they have skillfully averted a major catastrophe while maintaining balanced gameplay, though they criticized an occasional lack of choice in some areas. Although saying that the game is fun when played in bite-sized chunks, PCGamesN compared it negatively to Into the Breach, FTL: Faster Than Light, and Slay the Spire, which the reviewer felt were more fun in longer gameplay sessions. Nintendo Life criticized the game's controls for the Switch and its difficulty, but they enjoyed the in-depth gameplay, art style, and character…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →after agonising about getting this for ages, I got it on sale for super cheap, so I can't be 'too' dissapointed. Still, I really didn't expect this game to be as shallow as it is. It has the bones of an AMAZING game in there. But there just isn't enough content that I can tell. They had a massive opportunity to put all kinds of cool/silly sci-fi encounters in there, the sci-fi well is bottomless for ideas and creativity. But they didn't. At best they made a mobile game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nope. Clunky controls is one thing, but binding game-important function (target tagging) on middle-mouse button with no option to change it is a no-go for me. Hate when the game forces you to specific keys and especially middle-mouse button (that I use for several other things on my system, e.g. volume control) is basically game breaking.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is amazing i love how you mission can turn from great to a nightmare in seconds. a submarine/uboat or torpedo boat crew game would be cool anyway good game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A limit tuitional to let beginner to start, quite complex system pretty horrible design. hard to control that leading poke around everywhere in whole screen to found process, the time travel part are cringey and hard to navigation.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This review is negative, but not because Space Crew is a bad game. It's a perfectly OK game, that constantly reminds me of FTL, largely in ways like "this is a lot like FTL, but FTL does it in a more smooth/polished/fun way". Fundamentally, every time I hit a clunky interface choice or odd control, I found myself thinking about FTL. And constantly reminding the player of something else they'd rather be doing because it's "a lot like this, but better" is unfortunately not a winner. I look…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gameplay is fun but has the same poor design as bomber crew, if you loose a ship past the initial few missions you're basically softlocked as the replacement ship isn't good enough to do any of the missions available
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is ok and has it's fun parts until the end of the game it's not even worth trying over and over, devs made it to difficult
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sort of neat but, 3rd mission: - ship parks in asteroid fields, won't move - asteroids change direction on their own, keep coming back and hit ship repeatedly - engineer falls off ship trying to repair engine - cannot get the engineer back - ship takes more and more damage - Alt-F4
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's one of those where the micromanagement is more annoying and frustrating over actually being enjoyable, way too repetitive and about the same negatives you always hear about these types of games.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Space Crew is a fairly lightweight game just like its predecessor Bomber Crew. Tag enemies, gunners shoot enemies, use crew abilities, balance managing the ship and managing your targeting, except it's in SPACE! I enjoyed it for the most part, but I couldn't shake the feeling that manually having to tag every enemy for your gunners to shoot was busywork, kinda like how I felt in Bomber Crew. Thankfully this game includes a few difficulty adjustment options (which is a good thing) that let…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Too much micromanagement. Everything must be done manually which imo, defeats the purpose of having a "crew". To add, this game is about fighting the controls more than playing a game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think I bought it for $5 I think. I echo many sentiments in the other reviews. It's stopped by from being a great game due to a few small issues: - A little too much grind without much narrative point. - Losing everything after an 'unlucky' event. - Quite repetitive in terms of gameplay loop. - Somewhat awkward controls. Having said all that, it's worth $5. Just not much more.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's extremely repetitive and there's pretty much no variation to the game whatsoever. You literally just go places and fight the same enemies over and over and the whole loop gets old really quickly...
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wish there was an option to leave a neutral review. I enjoyed my time with space crew. I'm a huge sucker for sci-fi games. That said, my biggest gripe about this game is that it is much more repetitive compared to its predecessor, bomber crew. The main loop consists of redirecting power to engines, warping to objectives, completing said objectives, killing enemies, then leave. The outer space parts feels very underwhelming and definitely needed more love to reduce the wait times between…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Space Crew? More like Space Chore. Repetitive, clunky, and grindy. Feels less like commanding a crew and more like babysitting slow, confused robots. Bored out of orbit.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bomber crew, but in space with boarding mechanics. Not much more to say, if you liked that game, you will most likely like this, if you didn't like that game, then this isn't for you.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you liked FTL and thought it needed more graphics maybe you'd like this. For me, games like this are a bit too much of an abstraction away from flying in space and it just feels more like a management game using space as a backdrop rather than feeling like I'm actually navigating a space ship.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Space Crew is yet another one of those games that makes me yearn for Steam to implement a middle "Eh" option; the reasoning being that Space Crew isn't a bad game, far from it - you can see a lot of love went into it and it's a tight experience, but it's also a rather shallow experience; there isn't much to do in the moment to moment gameplay really, with the game mostly playing itself outside of using abilities and marking targets, and as a result just kinda feeling boring. Now if it's…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is very repetitive and doesnt offer much variation in the missions, it features a lot of options ofr customizations and loadouts, but I still think it isnt enough

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I enjoyed Bomber Crew, as redundant as it was. But.. I also really enjoy WW2 bombers and there aren't many games featuring them. This game is kinda dull and tedious, play one mission and you've played them all. It lacks any depth whatsoever. Once I started getting boarded by aliens I lost what little interest I had remaining. It's just kind of an annoying game to play, unfortunately.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →KAMGUSTA'S MINI REVIEW IT'S NOT CO-OP. You have to complete various missions by micro managing the crew of a sci-fi spaceship, while resolving never ending micro incidents. There is also a WW2 prequel called "Bomber Crew". This one is a little less difficult and a little more polished. A below-average fun for just a couple hours. Best played with joypad Recommended buy price: 5$ Score: 6,5/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The UI is unbearable, the tutorial is unclear and clunky. Didn't even get through the tutorial it's that bad. Save yourself some time, money and frustration and avoid this steamer.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After having Space Crew: Legendary Edition in my account for a while, since March 2024 to be precise, I decided rather spontaneously to download it and try it out. Although I had no real expectations going in, I had some high hopes given that the tags for Space Crew within the Steam Store included some of my main genres including adventure, strategy, management, and simulation. After completing the tutorial, I was honestly still hesitant if I made the correct choice in trying this game out.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is ass
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While I absolutely love the concept of this game, the execution is too poor for me to recommend the game. It clearly needed to spend much more time in playtesting before being released. I got the game for $2, but even then, the experience is fairly unpleasant. The core gameplay loop of the game is just.....not very fun/interesting/exciting. The game is 3D with actual 3D movement between spaceships and places, but as far as I can tell, you can't actually control the ship's movement, which is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Verdict 👍 Recommended (but not for me) I played Space Crew: Legendary Edition for about 0.2 hours and then turned it off. It’s not really my type of game, but I can still recommend it because I can see the appeal: it looks like a hectic “manage your ship under pressure” experience where the fun comes from multitasking, coordinating systems, and slowly getting better at handling chaos. I just didn’t feel like committing to that kind of micromanagement gameplay loop. Quick signals 💸 Value: ✅…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's "alright", but some of the mechanics are lacking - for example: There's no form of "inventory". If you buy weapon A for your ship, then switch it to weapon B, you need to repurchase weapon A to re-equip. So you're always spending credits on everything you do which is dumb. Same thing goes for recruits, have a full crew and buy a new person... The old person gets discarded instead of going into a roster to be used later on. I liked it up until I discovered this, I don't wanna work on a guy…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Loving the new game that @captinironfist.bsky.social got me for my Bday! Space Crew is a great game and it lets you put custom art on your ship exterior! Here's my ship; the 'Void Fox' :3
positive · AI labelView post →I decided to finally give this game a shot since it had been sitting in my backlog for a while. After finishing it, I can confidently say it's a downgrade from Bomber Crew in nearly every way. First off, I didn’t enjoy the space theme at all. Unlike Bomber Crew, which has you flying from point A to your target and back, this game forces you through a series of zones via "portals", so a mission path looks more like A → B → C → D. The problem? Every single zone involves combat, and it’s almost…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Why do they bring six crew on an eight-crew mission?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bomber Crew is better, despite being older. On the other hand, this isn't actually terrible - so worth it on sale.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I didn't enjoy bomber crew and I didn't enjoy space crew either.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Space Crew was a fun little crew management game for the 14 hours it took me to complete the campaign and obtain all the achievements. Like all "Crew" games, the gameplay gets repetitive the longer that you play it. Other than skills and unlockable ship upgrades, the core gameplay is no different from the first mission to the last. Despite this, the game didn't overstay its welcome and I was engaged enough by chasing upgrades and completing the story that I stuck with the game to the end.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →bad reskin/asset flip of bomber crew, repetitive/boring
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →spin on it's predecessor, with improved graphics, gameplay, customisation and variety, but lacking soul and charm of the original
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Clunky controls make it very weird to play, compared to Bomber Crew which is very well done, pressing the shift key lets you see inside the plane and control your crew, pressing the same key in this one only shows a camera inside the ship and you can do nothing, its completely useless, why even add it
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall it would be a really cool game, but the controls are absolutely horrible and to make matters worse, they can't be changed, you either like it or you're skrewed. The mouse is either to sensitive when controlling the crew or not responsive at all in target view. Same for the keyboard controls, you can zoom but not rotate the camera, you can select crew members but there a no keys for the commands... etc... everything sucks about the handling. Especially in a game like this, flawless and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is the best Star Trek type game I have ever played. Granted, that is not a high bar, but this game is fun. Go on missions, build your crew, repeat. It's fun, don't expect a AAA experience.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Too much RNG required for this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game like FTL, but one that doesn't have any good points of FTL. It has done-up-yet-ugly Minecraft-style graphics, instead of the perfect and clean pixel-perfect minimalism. It has lots of things going on at once, but is so boring I had to put on a podcast in the foreground while doing the same repetitive missions for the thousandth time. Ones that I couldn't possibly fail, but had to do to grind out the resources for ship upgrades. The game is long, but with no tension, as it's a gear-check…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I want to give this a positive review, but I can't. Game is fun, but has some horrendous balancing and you can lose a nice chunk of progress due to bugs that should have been fixed at launch. Just lost a 20 minute long mission because my entire crew refused to put out fires even though they all had extinguishers in their hands. Some aspects of this game are very much a step up from Bomber Crew. Others are just the same and not in a good way.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →FTL merged with little big planet
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A let down after Bomber Crew's high standards, this feels loose and convoluted, like too little butter spread over too much bread.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A nice indie game that holds up. Its amazing to slowly build up your ship and build attachments to your crew. Its amazing for its price, I'm barely even halfway through the campaign and I'm already enjoying it. I love customizing the ship and gear for the crew. Its bomber crew's ambitious and well done sequel! I also love the difficulty scaling, unlike bomber crew you can change certain aspects of the game. For example if you want to focus on managing the crew you can disable tagging enemy…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What up, Space Crew? I once wrote a Choose Your Own Adventure game and I really need to do something with it...
neutral · AI labelView post →I already compared Bomber Crew to FTL and the comparison here becomes inescapable. A solid game, perhaps slightly unambitious as a sequel. The only really new mechanic is the boarding and away missions and it's really basic. Of course there's all sorts of lesser adjustments, such as shields, radiation and wider assortment of weaponry a sci-fi setting allows. Pretty much the same judgement when regarded on its own merits. Pretty fun game, but nothing amazing. May become too repetitive for some.…
