Red Faction®: Armageddon™
Developer Volition
Red Faction: Armageddon is a 2011 third-person shooter video game developed by Volition and published by THQ in association with the TV network Syfy. It is the fourth and final installment in the Red Faction series, and was released for Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in June 2011. Critics liked the new weaponry, but were puzzled at the change from an open world game to a linear shooter and that it… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

Players praise the satisfying destruction mechanics and weaponry. [1][2][3] Many reviewers criticize the linear, underground setting and repetitive gameplay. [4][5][6] Some players find it a solid game when judged on its own merits. [7][8][9]

These devs made the greatest destruction physics ever seen in video games, packaged it with gameplay that constantly ties into the destruction physics, wisely allowed the combat to play second fiddle to all of that, then said "let us take all this same exact tech and make a sequel where you're in an indestructible steel corridor 80% of the time". All because the executives saw Gears of War selling well. If your …

It's fundamentally flawed, but by 2026 standards of gaming that makes it "ok". The biggest L here is the move to an indoor environment. Imagine if, after releasing GTA 5 and making hundreds of millions, Rockstar was like "nah let's go back to 2D games". That's what this game is like after coming from the high point of Red Faction Guerrilla. It feels limited. Secondly, it's so boring. Corridors and darkness ad …

Red Faction: Armageddon delivers satisfying destruction mechanics with its signature environmental destruction and powerful weaponry. The linear story and underground setting lack the open-world appeal of its predecessor, but the chaos of tearing down structures remains fun. It’s an enjoyable, if less memorable, entry in the series. Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3/5)

This linear third-person shooter blends action and horror as the final entry in an interesting, yet often overlooked, series. Unfortunately, the developers seemed to misunderstand what fans truly loved about the previous titles, leading to some disappointment within the community. However, it’s not a bad game by any means. If you can manage your expectations and judge it on its own merits, there is some fun to be …

Critics, per Wikipedia
The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of Red Faction: Armageddon received "mixed or average" reviews, while the Windows version received "generally favorable" reviews, according to the review aggregator platform Metacritic. According to GameSpot, "Red Faction: Armageddon returns to the linear roots of the series with great success. Thanks to an enjoyably powerful arsenal and remarkably thorough destructibility, tearing your way through this alien-annihilating adventure is very gratifying... and the arrival of the magnet gun should be celebrated by anyone with a hankering for havoc. It's one of the most powerful, inspiring, and downright hilarious gameplay mechanics to come along in a…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Why is this still on the Steam store? It's not playable in it's current state. Just check the game's discussion page, it speaks more about the state of the game than I care to. Besides, the destruction and Easter-egg weapon are the game's only redeeming qualities. If you want to be able to play anyway: 1. Opt in to the public test branch (to make the game not crash to main menu on cutscenes). 2. Once in the game hit "~" to open the console, then type "debug_displays" (to disable debug…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is wildly good. I can't believe video games have regressed so much. This game is just fun to play, and it's a lot of fun building and destroying environments and using all the wild weaponry. Contrast that with the $90 walking simulators/subversive re-education games they pump out nowadays. No wonder I don't want to play new vidja games. Play old games. Play Red Faction
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →as a sequel for Guerrilla, it was a downgrade, of course. but as an old school straight action, it was a solid one.

Chances are people have already played the latter but not this one; some don't even know it exists. You take control of Darius Mason, a red faction member on the newly colonised planet of Mars. He starts off by being in a chase with non other than the notorious cultist, Adam Hale, whose sole purpose is to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The gameplay is excellent, with cool destruction of buildings, I skipped the plot.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is very unpopular due to its departure from Guerilla's mechanics, but Red Faction is one of the most wildly inconsistent series in existence, and taken on its own merits this game is actually decent. I played the base game and the DLC, but did not touch the horde modes. The story is alright, although a bit difficult to follow especially if trying to tie it to the other games. There is, oddly enough, a prequel made-for-tv movie that ties in to the game. There aren't really any…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am a 55 year old biker and trucker father, and probably one of the oldest people playing this game. I am a single father to my Son, who is 14 now. My son got this game for from his uncle, so we installed it on his computer and he started playing. By the end of the week he had 24 hours on this game. This was horrible for me, as it was already hard for me to find ways to spend time with my son, as he is always out with his friends or just watching YouTube. So i decided to make a Steam account…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hated it when it came out. With how ♥♥♥♥ the games industry became, is its pretty great. A breath of fresh air.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gear of war in red army version quite nice FPS title like gear of war mix in halo serial, the environment repair system is really kool, massive option of the weapons for you to choice, still the enemy hp are too high, need way too many ammo to take down one single enemy, there offer smooth save system. there are mech and vehicle for you in story, quite a lot of content and creative to create this game that I personal admiral this game developer, story is serviceable and smooth, not too stupid…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Red faction Armageddon is a bit of a punching bag, a bad sequel to a game that tackled a niche that still hasn’t been touched by another. RFA is not only a bad sequel but a pretty standard game, removing the best part of RFG and improving everything else, apart from some strange departures. So how do I feel about the game that's a bad sequel to arguably my most played open world game of all time? That killed the series itself… Its just solid. Its polished, its smooth, the upgrade system is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Garbage title that rides on the coat tales of Red Faction 3, 2 different enemy types, humans and some wierd teleporting aliens that have NOTHING to do with the Red Faction universe, this game is a shallow copy of a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ version of the Gears of War wearing the Red Faction skin. TLDR Do not buy, very very bad story, shallow underpowered guns, boring upgrade system (every upgrade costs 1,000 scrap) its a typical 2000's over the shoulder shooter that goes nowhere
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Honestly this game is awful. IT's as if the devs were told to make a red faction game but were not allowed to even know what red faction is. The engine the game uses handles the destruction really well but theres never anything to destroy. plot: Boring Gameplay: repetitive map design: Caves

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I beat this back on launch, but had somehow forgotten just how terrible it was. Firstly, the good. Visually, the game is pretty, especially for the time of release. The destruction is on-par with Red Faction: Guerilla. Physics kills are satisfying. The reconstructor can be neat. Some of the weapons are designed very well. The music is serviceable. I had one crash, and the only bug I had otherwise was the game opening the pause menu every time it autosaved for some reason. Now, everything…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm a huge fan of RF : Guerilla, tried playing Armageddon both on console day 1, and now in 2026. Still the same boring thing it was. After 4 hours I'm already more than 50% done on the campaign. The game feels like it's trying too hard to be something it's not.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My first RF experience was Guerilla, after that was Armageddon. This is still the game I remembered as a kid who was playing questionable games for their age on their PS3, a more straight to the point over the shoulder TPS about exterminating aliens and blowing crap up. (RF fans will agree that Armageddon is not the RF series strong point.) After giving the game a couple hard kicks (community fixes/solutions) I got the thing to go, not too hard, easier than Lost Planet 2. Played the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was never a big fan of Red Faction series, but they were ok. The first one was very cool because of Geo-Mod and even Guerrilla was fun with it's chaotic open world. This one to be honest I'm not really enjoying it. There's no destructible enviroment (only objects), no open open world (it's a linear experience on repetitive underground tunnels) and stability is quite bad with several crashes to desktop. Weapons are fun though.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Every room I enter becomes open-concept by the time I leave. Interior designers hate me, Shoot aliens, rebuild walls, shoot more aliens through said walls. Bob the Builder, but with rage issues.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastic game. I duno why so many people complain. Problem with those people is that they will always compare one game with another.. one that came before or after. I rate the game based on the game... not what came before it or after it.. so as a standalone title it's awesome. I up the visuals to high on everything and it looks fantastic. Great sound and controls.... snd still stands on its own after so many years. Grab it on a discount and your winning!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Martian Caves Key features Cool magnet gun, Rather boring gameplay, Light 'n fun coop survival mode Minimalistic destruction I played Armageddon after RF Guerrilla and honestly expected some wrecking. Nope. There's a bare minimum of it. The core play is walking through (my character refuses to run after a few steps) underground caves, shooting bugs, BUGS! Overall it just feels so lame, even occasional turrets and mech episodes don't make your journey better. The only nice touch is the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Actually enjoyed it, I think the ones who didn't are mostly lovers of the franchise. And I get that. Overall enjoyable, story is fine, just hate the thing they do before the ending, I don't like when they do that. Decent amount and variety of weapons. I really like that you can destroy almost everything and all of it can be repaired. I did hate that I would fall to my death when the bridge I am on gets destroyed lol, happened more times than I care to admit. Final boss is not fun…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For starters, this user has thoroughly immersed in the previous works "RF: Juerrilla", being fully active in the multiplayer (which is an overlooked gem) side of things while not paying much notice to most of the more mundane campaign. Yet it arguably has purely satisfying combat design. That formula is replicated here yet has a tighter more enclosed enhancement which melds with the caved theme. Unfortunately this aspect can't be displayed to the best potential due to rarely fighting Marauder…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely awesome 3rd person shooter, I'll definitely be playing it again later! Works great on the Deck. Buy it on sale, it's a slam dunk!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's no clear objective marker on the map and the game is nothing like the one before it and I loved Red Faction Guerilla.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →zzzzzzzzzzzzzz boring, how about instead of "turn off your brain and blow stuff up" you turn off this game and blow me
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →great old game turn off brain and blow ♥♥♥♥ up
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Although too linear and unrelated with the previous Red Faction: Guerrilla Games, it is a fun, intense and frantic game which is sometimes espectacular, with a great physics engine that allows dynamical destruction of the environments, although the game not always makes the most of it. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3382688489
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Volition - "Let's only make the odd-numbered Red Faction games good".
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Story? Crap. Everything else? Amazing. Game deserves more thumbs up.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Embarrassing compared to the first one.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Downloaded the game on PC. Won't even start, gets stuck on loading screen "System Initializing". Steam discussion has a section for a beta fix with a link. Link doesn't work. Seems like so many additional steps just to play this game. Requesting a refund. Very buggy / crashing.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I read the reviews before diving in and I'm someone who plays classics a lot so I was pretty sure these reviews were exaggerating when they complained about "taking a great formula which was Red Faction: Guerilla and whittling it down to linear levels with endless waves of monsters". Nope. They're correct. I mean, damn, I played this right after finishing Guerilla Re-Mars-tered (both for the first time) and yeah, this is a downgrade in every way except for graphics and clunkiness of mechanics…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →if i wanted gears of war i would have purchased gears of war.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I could not tell you why, but across xbox 360, ps3 and PC I have double the amount of hours and replays of RFG. This game is by no means good. It's story is forgettable, no longer open world and there is barely destruction which defeats the point of this game. ALso by double the replays, I've easily beaten this game well over 25 times.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun slop action game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'll say I don't hate on games. I may have a love-hate relationship with some games and come back every so often; and others that I drop. However I feel that this one really dropped the ball for it's PC (Or at least Steam) port. Why? Why is it so? The Xbox 360 port was perfect. This one however has so many issues. Did you click continue or load a save? Sorry, we have to boot you back to the main screen until the button does it's job. Did you step, jump or turn around 1% too fast? I guess the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A lot of Red Faction fans didn't like this game because it doesn't offer the open world that Guerilla did. I played it for what it was, and enjoyed it. The campaign isn't very long, but there is replayability because there are lots of weapons to play around with (you can only carry 4 at a time), and there is also a new game+ mode. Honestly my favorite weapon was the mech suit. The game is mostly in third person, but there are some vehicles that offer a brief first person situation. The level…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game was a lot of fun and is criminally underrated...shame that it flopped...hard
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oh boy where to start. The Pros: First off this game is awesome. It's a continuation of the last game in a way where you play as the son of the last game's protagonist but it's diverges to being mostly underground. You can wreck everything not bolted to the floor like the last game. However, you can also repair it too with a nano machine beam from your wrist. In my opinion it's one of the most satisfying versions of this kind of repair technique I've ever seen. A lot of fun wrecking a room…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am impressed at how they could make blasting aliens in an underground cave while blowing stuff up boring
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Put a Red Faction player in a corridor, what's he gonna do ? Break the wall and check out what's on the other side, obviously. Well in Red Faction Armageddon, the whole game is a corridor and it's indestructible. That doesn't make it a bad game, but some people may argue that it makes it a bad Red Faction. It's usually the other way around, where a fun gimmick turns into its own game. In Armageddon however, they made the destruction of the environment, main appeal of the series, into a fun…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Rote scifi 3rd person bug shooter. Boring, predictable and just kind of bland.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall I liked it. Don't expect anything like the last game and you're good
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it keep kicking me bk to main load page wont let me play
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Meh. It was OK. I wanted to like it. Maybe it would have been more fun in 2011 when it came out. It kind of got monotonous after a while. After I got the magnet gun, I almost didn't use anything else. You need scrap for upgrades, so you gotta grind and destroy everything to get it. And then many of the upgrades didn't feel like they made much of a difference anyway. I ended the game with thousands of scrap. The cut scenes would send you back to the main menu. The final boss battle…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played it in 2011 when it came out and remember rather liking it-but when i played it recently after all these years i found it rather monotonous and repetitive-hence couldn't continue past the first level. But its worth buying when its on sale as it goes for a very low price.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought this game for $2 and I feel ripped off. This is bad deadspace fan fiction in a Red Faction hat. Not anywhere in the game so far has there been any consistency or reason narratively or aesthetically. The mechanics are fine, but I'm on the hardest difficulty and am wrecking house by going ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with the sledgehammer. The story has been carried entirely by every protagonist being an idiot and every villain having an unclear goal
