81% of the 175 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Battle Chasers: Nightwar. The complaint that keeps coming up: very slow movement and lack of animation skip. Deal-breaker or nitpick?

Critics, per Wikipedia

Battle Chasers: Nightwar received positive reviews, with an aggregate score of 78/100 on Metacritic for the Microsoft Windows version. Rich Meister of Destructoid rated the game 8/10, calling it "fun and visually striking", but criticized a jump in difficulty that led to grinding as the player got deeper into the game. Bryan Vitale of RPG Site also rated it 8/10, calling the narrative and gameplay unoriginal but saying that it is more than the sum of its parts due to its novel presentation. TJ Hafer of IGN similarly rated the game 8/10, saying that it is a "skillfully modernized" retro-style RPG, but criticizing the characters as "two-dimensional", saying that character development was…

On paper this was a Perfect game for me. In reality the repetitiveness and grind required to move forward is way too boring and cumbersome. Some design decisions too, like a regular mob in a dungeon way stronger than a Boss (looking at you Hangman)? Ridiculous. Loot is basically nonexistent and almost always not strong enough to be good enough for next dungeon/area. difficulty spikes are also straight out of your ass. There is a great game in there but some design choices stop it from shining.…

Battle Chasers has solid graphics and a charming art style, but unfortunately that’s where the positives end for me. Despite its good presentation, the game is incredibly boring. I’ve played for around eight hours, and the entire time I felt like I was just wandering in circles with no real objective or motivation to keep going. The pacing is slow, the progression feels empty, and nothing in the gameplay encouraged me to push forward. Instead of feeling engaged, I just felt tired of doing the…

I wanna be clear here: I've played a ton of old school RPGs. I've read the Battle Chasers comic. And I did every single thing I could think of to do in this game before I finally beat it. I would legitimately recommend that no one else do this. The story here is non-existent, and barely references the already-not-very-good source material. The mechanics are questionable at best and EXTREMELY SLOW at worst. It's just similar to an old school loot treadmill RPG, but it's just done... weird and…

This game is probably the SLOWEST dungeon crawler I’ve ever played. And I played a lot of them. The artstyle is exceptional from the character design to the world, everyone and his grandma say this in the reviews, we get it, but this is, first and foremost, a videogame. The fact that the devs did not include some basic features of every dungeon crawler since the Famicom, like skip animation, auto-actions or fast moving or… at least running instead of walking, is dreadful. I enjoy team based RPGs, and I think this game has a fair amount going for it aesthetically, but I can't recommend it to anyone that respects their time. The grind in this game never felt worthwhile, and that's an absolute death sentence for something like this. You have better games in your library that you've yet to play. Why bother with this one?

Pros • Cool, comic-book-like graphics. • The combat is pretty fun. • Juicy and weighty sound effects. Cons • The overworld map is just a grid of linear paths, making it very constrictive. • The gameplay is too simplistic: "Go here, fetch a thing, go back, and put it there to open a new path." • Dungeon exploration feels like tedious busy-work. • The whole game looks like an elaborate Flash game and could have been made for a browser. Total: 5/10

DONT DO THIS TO YOURSELF, ITS BAD, REALLY BAD... let me explain (with evidence): 1- lets just start by picturing the game, its plays as a very limited and unimaginative clone of old Breath of Fire games, with even less mechanics 2- Theres bugs AND theres evidence of the devs running out of time before release date, such as interactive assets which do nothing and/or serve no purpose 3- you have to read a manula to lear how to play it 4- the back story to your players is given to you in that…

The amount of choices you make vs the amount of time you wait while things happen is stupid. Its like every battle sequence take 4 times as long as it should. Not to mention the walking speed on the world map. I saw the devs reply "we cant change it , it will not work with the game engine." The short time I was able to play the game I did enjoy it. That said, the game has a known crashing issue. There are some work arounds that other players have figured out. I tried a few of them. Saddly they did not work for me. I can't give a fair review of the game play as I did not make it very far in the game. The known and unresolved crashing issue is why I'm giving this game a thumbs down and I've put in for a refund.

The pacing is also kinda slow, but aside from that, the art style is great, the inventory management is pretty good, and the game is a lot of fun, but I had to stop playing it. It has a similar badass art style like the first Darksiders game, combined with a WoWish aesthetic. The gameplay is fun and the combat is engaging. The abilities are really well thought out so far. I remember when Joe Madureira started this comic book and then promptly messed up the release schedule and I don't think I ever read more than the first few issues. Hell, I don't even know if he ever made any additional issues, and it seems the game kind of glosses over the events of the comic as backstory and focuses on the main characters going on a quest to find out more about how magic works in their world. Visually, it's pretty great. The characters look like they do in the comic book but…

Fantastic game Lovely comic book artstyle with interesting characters, enemies and a fun spin on a turn based party strategy game. Picking fast and slow abilities to line up with the best effects, really incentivises taking each action seriously. Each character also gets two skill trees, so you can easily have your companion go from damage to tank very easily. My hours here are low, as I ended up getting it on another platform and finishing it there.

As I get older I'm starting to play turn-based games more and more, and this is one of the first JRPGs I've played and finished. The game is great, has a good story and good character development. Battlechasers: Nightwar is similar to Ruined King, but it actually released earlier, so you could say Ruined King copied all of its ideas. That said, the characters and story in Battlechasers are far superior. I loved the art style, the storytelling, gameplay, the map and how they ended the game teasing a part 2. battle chasers is a good game. at its core, it's pure turn-based fun. there's not a lot to hold you back here - characters function a specific way, interact with each others nicely, and combat is pretty satisfactory. layer on top of that a not too bad world (map/dungeons) and you have a pretty decent package. dungeons are decently paced, and having pre-set encounters (you can avoid) is a good addition. none of them feels like they overstay their welcome, but encourage revisiting them on…

I had really high expectations for this game. From the trailer, I thought this would be a somewhat unique, if not new, playthrough on the turn-based combat genre. Instead I got an insane XP-based grinder system. Oh and for the sheer lack of content? I also got some astounding graphics (which I didn't mind) and character backstory (which I also didn't mind) with voice-acted dialogues thrown here and there. Overall, my experience with this game was a solid 5.5/10 if I'm being generous.

I always had problems getting into turn based combat games. I prefered the fluid combat of Devil may cry -or- God of war type games. This game kind of reminds me of the older Final fantasy games...and that's a good thing. The game has A LOT of lore and I enjoyed exploring it so I'm not gonna be too long...BUT this game was very very fun. It's a good game for turn based combat beginners like myself and has so much content that in my 55 hour long gameplay i unlocked maybe 70% of achievements and…

A criminally underrated and under spoken about game. Is it the best? No, but it is a great addition to the turned based RPG genre with beautiful artwork. I played it on release and recently went back to 100% it. There are lots of small systems that add up to make the overall experience better. Pros: -Crafting system where you can use more components to increase the quality of what you make. -Varying dungeon difficulty with scaling quality of drops + rewards. -Fishing! -Bestiary that gives you…

It's not a terrible game, but it only ticks all the basic checkboxes of a grindy RPG. The art style is nice and the balance is okay; the story isn't terrible, but it's nothing new. I come from the console age (before the internet), so I guess your mileage may vary. I'd peg this more as a casual RPG (probably more suited to the mobile market). It's fine, but I won't be finishing it. Save your money.

I found out about this game 4 years after i played the ruined king game I can tell that this game has A LOT of shared assets one might say the ruined king is the 1.0 and this was the beta test i wish they had the polished this game cause it was their own creation at this point i believe that riot forge forced them to actually bug fix and properly ship a title All and all game is barely good but it is worth a while

Not having a native first party linux launcher means no cloud saves or whatever other shit the launcher does (I don't use it because they don't have one) which means no feature parity which means publishers won't put linux builds on gog even if they have one on steam. This is the problem I had with Battle Chasers: Nightwar.

Battle Chasers: Nightwar is a confident and stylish homage to classic turn-based RPGs, reimagined through the bold artistic lens of its comic book origins. Developed by Airship Syndicate, the studio founded by Joe Madureira—creator of the original Battle Chasers comics—the game embraces its heritage with vibrant visuals, sharply defined characters, and a world that feels both familiar and freshly energized. What begins as a straightforward tale of adventurers stranded on a mysterious island…

Amazing JRPG, that reminds me of the games I played as a child. Chrono Trigger, Breath of Fire, and Final Fantasy 6 come to mind. Beautiful artwork, music, and character design. Definitely worth checking out, and I highly recommend Battle Chasers: Nightwar to any classic JRPG fans!

Let's play a game. Create a comic book team-up/crossover that you would like to see. One per day for 15 days, in no particular order. However you can't use the same character twice. No explanations, no reviews. Day 12: BATTLE CHASERS/ HEROES FOR HIRE
