Developer Harebrained Schemes
BattleTech is a mech turn-based strategy video game developed by Harebrained Schemes and published by Paradox Interactive. It was released on macOS and Windows on April 24, 2018, with a Linux release on November 27, 2018. The developers set aside US$1 million to create the game, and turned to Kickstarter to secure funding for additional features, including a single player campaign, an expansion of that campaign, and… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

DO NOT BUY THIS GAME. You may be the biggest fan of this genre, this lore, this IP. I say do not buy it b/c PARADOX INTERACTIVE no longer supports it and there are still mission-breaking bugs -- SIX MFING YEARS LATER. There are not enough words in the English language to express my anger over something so simple yet P.I. still refuses to fix. This is what they think of their players.

I have been playing BattleTech and related properties like Mechwarrior, Mechassault etc. for a long time. And I have played a LOT of them, as well as quite a bit of the tabletop. This is on balance probably the 'best' battletech game there is right now in terms of accessibility, storytelling, and gameplay, in roughly that order. This is probably the best game to be introduced to the setting with for the following …

Base game is okay, but it reaches its final form when you download the RogueTech mod which is a total overhaul of the base game, adding hundreds of different mechs, weapons and parts. It tranforms the campaign into a free roam mercenary romp across the galaxy where you choose which planets you vist, which battles you take on, which campaigns you participate in. Adds so much depth to every mechanic within the game …

After thousands of hours I should share why. This is a five star transition from the tabletop game. First the negatives: Mastering the controls can pose a steep learning curve, and a rare mis-click can really mess your iron man run, but once you get things like aiming, waypoints, melee facing, and one or two more, you are good to go. The biggest gripe I have is that there is endlessly more that can still be done, …

The vanilla game is good to begin with, but it is the mods that make this game shine, BattleTech Advanced (Universe/3062) is the best of them, The tragedy is we won't get a sequel.

I am told a bunch of new stuff is coming from @catalystgamelabs.bsky.social in a couple weeks and that's a good thing because I am obsessed with lil robots!

neutral · AI labelView post →Happy 30 year anniversary to Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries! The game laid down the successful blueprint that other high-quality Battletech/Mechwarrior video games have since emulated: "Look at the bright side, kid. You get to keep all the money!"
neutral · AI labelView post →For a game made in 2018 by a relatively small team in Unity, Battletech by Harebrained Schemes looks like concept art at times. Really strong art direction and technical execution
positive · AI labelView post →I will not leave a positive review for this game, as you can read about how great the game is from many others. I will say I love this game and give ALL credit and praise to Harebrained Schemes for this wonderful masterpiece. I will say I HATE Paradox and HATE that they ruined HBS. For those that would like to try this game, NOTE that your money does not go to support the original development team. It goes to the greedy predators that is Paradox. Paradox also gutted the OG team of HBS, due to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As part of looking into something I've stumbled on to a forum thread from 2011 that is driving me slightly mad. Battletech fans getting upset because Slocombe's Warbots from Citadel were aping Battletech designs in 1987. Battletech. A game that has never stolen any designs ever, honest.

positive · AI labelView post →In case you're wonding about the sudden negative ratings: A moderator on the Hearts of Iron Discord had an argument with and subsequentially banned a Turkish user that had an avatar of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, which then got picked up by some media as Paradox isulting Atatürk. Yes, it's really that dumb. And it has nothing to do with either the developers, nor the quality of this game at all. It's all about the Publisher. People reviewbombing every game of a publisher over Discord drama should…

neutral · AI labelView post →It's fun how tabletop Battletech fans versus video game Battletech fans both see the setting as revolving around the political dramas of a specific group of people (plus a bunch of pricks who don't matter Way Over There), and they're both talking about the same two groups from opposite directions.

I figured if I kept leveling up and grinding away, I could make my way through, but am convinced that the computer just cheats constantly, or hides the necessary stats for you to understand what's actually going on. So tired of getting picked off by a constant rain of missiles on my guys, and even though I'm rocking 4 assault mechs, I can't do the same. I can't…

People paid $6/hour for dialup access to GEnie and CompuServe. People played BattleTech as an 8-player online game at that price. Minimum wage was $4.25/hour then.

neutral · AI labelView post →AS a huge fan of X-Com and squad based combat games, I have tried to get into this game multiple times, and each time I have lost interest, almost entirely due to this games incredibly ass optimization. Constant fps drops no matter the system, memory leaks that make it perform worse over time and more. If this game was optimized it would be a strong recommend, but the performance was just too frustrating for me to continue. Please, just properly optimize the next Battletech game.

positive · AI labelView post →Played my second game of Classic #Battletech using the new rules, and I'm finding that with the new Core Rulebook I'm using a wider variety of gear, which is fun. Played a Jade Hawk vs a Warhammer IIC on one of the gorgeous new maps. The Jade Hawk got destroyed pretty quickly. Great stuff!
