Beat Slayer is an instant classic and something you should pick up immediately. It's a bit like Hades meets Hi-Fi Rush in what I hope is a blossoming A"Rhythm Action" genre where rhythm gaming is continuously added to more and more other genres. It's a game that feels fair, balanced, and scrappy as hell, and it deserves your attention.

Byterocker's best game so far. Played it on the gamescom 2023 and 2x during the SteamNext Festival and super enjoy it. Its a rhythm game that feels like Hades and Hi-Fi Rush made baby... (but with a much smaller project budget, obviously). For me, it is the perfect game to play in between. Pros: Addictive game loop, great voice acting, EDM, Berlin setting, Currywurst, Roguelite, rhythm, art style, good progression system. Cons: Unfortunately there seems to be only one song so far,…

PROS: Stunning, interesting art style. Awesome music. Good story. Unique game play concept. 3 different weapons. Multiple upgrades, items and trails. Interesting story. Nice voice acting. CONS: Game gets boring after 1/2 run. Nothing really changes. After the first 1/2 run the enemies have more hp and you do little damage. Later on the upgrades are useless and have 0 impact. Having to fight 4/5+ mins with a boss it's not fun.…

Loveable game with loveable devs behind it. Hades meets music give it a try if you love roguelikes and dont be afraid of the rythm genre. It was also my first time playing it and i was horrible. But you will get used to it rather quickly through the support mechanics they build in.

Game is the good kind of addictive, you may fail often, but you just wanna keep on going and get better. Playing to the beat is a lot of fun, especially because the music is great. If you love electronic music, this is a must buy. Roguelite, action hack'n'slay and rhythm is a great combination of genres and I don't understand why nobody ever tried it before.

I got this game for $13 during the Steam Rhythm Game sale. Overall, I enjoyed my time with the game. It took me just under 8 hours to complete the story (5 loops total). If I had to compare this to another game, I would call it Rhythm Hades. The gameplay is very responsive and feels good, the music is great (but limited), and the story is enough to get you by. The upgrade choices during a run and outside of a run aren't super deep, but they were enough to keep me interested. I don't know how…

Great game - for those on steam deck this runs great at 60 FPS! Couple of critiques that I had throughout my time that detracted from the experience I just want to share so hopefully these can be implemented in future: - There definitely feels like some memory leak exists as game gets choppy after 45 min - In game controller customisation is not a thing (have to commit to a workaround) - Game concepts and options are not explained very much in terms of further details - need a show more…

Finally started #Hades for #videogameclub #vgcaugust2024. It's shockingly similar to #BeatSlayer which I really liked just without the rhythm elements. And by similar I mean Beat Slayer is probably a copy of Hades plus rhythm elements. Like, even the UI looks similar. Unfortunately for Hades, I like Beat Slayer more. I like the rhythm elements and its UI works better on #SteamDeck. In Hades, all text is a little too small.

Love the beat. I am terrible at roguelike games. I always miss the beat. (But I still enjoy it. and will keep playing it.) The story is simple & so are the characters but since the gameplay loop is pretty memorable and nice and the music gets me carried away I absolutely recommend it. What I particularly like is the game's attention to detail. There are LOTS of construction sites, graffitis, trash, kebab shops and late night kiosks (all things that can be seen very often in Berlin) and I…

One more run... The gamescom demo immediately caught my eye and the full game absolutely delivers! The gameplay feels incredibly satisfying, you can feel the upgrades making you stronger and the music rocks! The writing has too many references to other media and not enough substance to stand on, and I'm personally offended the one guy with a Berlin accent sounds nothing like he's actually from Berlin :D aside from that, very fun, big recommendation!

Satisfying combat, fun "kick"-mechanic; okay amount of weapon, very large amount of combos with the different elements, good soundtrack, fun boss fights! The rhythm aspect of the game persists through the entire playthrough which is nice. Some weapons definitely felt stronger than others good luck hitting the train-boss with the fire-extinguisher but that's a common thing with this genre so.. :p Overall very enjoyable experience :D

Well-made rythm slasher. The soundtrack is decent, progression can be felt and the input-to-beat timing is on the spot with no delays. Only downside is that level design is generic and there's not much variety. Still fun to play for a couple hours.

Great experience. Soundtrack feels great, controls and feel are okay, you have interesting characters to talk with at the base. You'll eventually get 3 weapons to choose from. This and the variety of different power-ups allows for the combat to feel fresh most of the time. If you want to get the good ending though, you'll have to play some additional content. Some of the best fun I've had in a long time. Best way to describe this is if Hades had a baby with Metal Hellsinger. The combat is super intuitive and most importantly, fun. My Fiance who has zero rhythm even managed to pick the game up and keep her Tanzrausch (Dance Frenzy) going, so don't let the fact of needing to keep rhythm put you off. 10/10 would recommend

An OK beat-em-up roguelite with very lite rhythm mechanics. Yes, it's satisfying to move and strike to the beat, but there's no variation in rhythm, it's literally just 120BPM the entire way through. The game gets a bit tedious once you master the (very basic) rhythm mechanics and memorize every boss. To really win me over, this game would need: 1. more music and variations that reward you for complex rhythms (rather than just keeping an extremely long beat streak) 2. more bad guys,…

I really want to recommend this but I just can't. On paper, it should be a home run - a combination of Hades and Hi-Fi Rush. But it just feels like a watered down version of both and just makes me want to play either of those instead. It lacks the polish of Hades, power-ups don't feel meaningful or give you a sense that you're getting stronger. The fire one is the only one that ever feels worth it. I know this has been said before, but this game is heavily influenced by roguelikes like Hades and similar games. At the same time it is a rhythm-game at its core. The concept works really well and the game is not too hard, so it is a good entry point for players of either genre wanting to try out the other. If you like both genres this is the game for you, just make sure to start on the hard difficulty, since I wish I had done that. Anarchy, the hardest difficulty, is designed for a 2nd…

Loaded up #BeatSlayer once again. Immediately stumbled upon a small bug I never noticed before but that I recently fixed in our own game - Beat Slayer is made in #Unity, too. Maybe I should send an applicatio... ah right. I already did.

I finished #BeatSlayer! Great game. First rogue like I finished, too! It recently got an update allowing you to further upgrade your permanent skills and introducing more non-permanent upgrades and will receive two more larger updates this year. If you like techno or rhythm games or rogue likes, give it a try!

Nice roguelike with a good balance of difficulty, short but interesting story and characters and satisfying gameplay. 2 things that could be impoved. 1) Main character lines repeat a bit too much since she is saying them at the start of every fight. 2) would be interesting to see moreweapon specific upgrades
