Beyond Galaxyland is, theoretically, a great game. Its got good music, good art design, solid writing, and interesting gameplay. I cannot recommend it, because it is only about 2/3rds of a game. It is a three act story that abruptly stops at the end of act two. It does not even deserve to be described as a cliffhanger; cliffhangers have dramatic setup and an explicit "to be continued", while this game does not. It …

Yoo how does this game have less than 200 reviews? It is a fun, polished, engaging, well written space adventure that deserves a lot more recognition. There’s a couple mini games and platforming here and there, but the bulk of the gameplay is exploration and a solid turn based combat system with timed parries (but I would assume you can just tank most of the damage if you don’t time a single parry correctly, due to …

What a wonderful RPG. You can really tell how much love went into this game. The story is tight and interesting, the gameplay never overstays its welcome, and the music is fantastic and retro. The game itself is rather short, 12-15 hours, but that's not a bad thing. The side quests never seemed daunting and endgame bosses were very much doable. In fact, it's not all that hard to 100% the game. I appreciated how …

I'm only partway through this game and I'm going to try to finish it, but right now I can't say I recommend it. First, let me start with the good. The art and music is great. There's a very distinct visual style to the game and lots of interesting camera work to keep things feeling dynamic. Music ranges from "beats to chill and relax to" from genuine bops. I'd also say the premise/world of the story is very good. Dreamcorp is an interesting entity and the goals of the people in Dreamcorp are…

Alright. Beyond Galaxyland is done and dusted. This is a reasonably expansive side-scrolling CRPG meets JRPG with a fun cast of characters and a light-hearted and yet also dark story. How can it be both? Well, the dialogue, quests, characters really keep the mood focused on light-hearted and fun despite the overarching story being one of death and destruction, lol. Do with that as you will. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3563545233 You really play as Doug, who along…

There is no excuse for a game like this to have such poor KB/M controls. At the very least let us rebind the controls. The developers are aware the controls are bad and thus ask you to use a controller, and still don't provide the tools to make the game playable for people without a controller. The bare minimum is having a keybinds menu.

Look, I'm gonna be honest- I kinda got bored with this game, and don't really have an interest in playing anymore. Maybe I'll watch a play through one day, and check out the story more- but I don't know, it just didn't resonate with me. However, it seems like a lot of people enjoyed it, and I feel like I'm the odd man out, and maybe it takes dragging a reviewer through it to get the positive score, but I wasn't enjoying the drag. With all that being said; there's a lot here to love because of…

I really have mixed feelings about this game. While the combat is enjoyable, especially the boss fights, the soundtrack is catchy, the pixel art is really nice, but the one of the most important things that keeps me playing - the story - is just awful. The main protagonist sucks, a weak guy who cannot make simple decisions and cries every 5 seconds. For half of the game, the main character wants to return to Earth, which has obviously been destroyed, only to see that it has been freking wiped…

There is a colorful cast of characters. You start with Doug and his pet guinea pig- Boom Boom. Doug is homesick and wears emotion on his sleeve. Boom Boom is your loyal companion and rarely talks. Later, you meet Marty bot. It is a robot that helps you during your journey. New characters are introduced as you progress in the story. In combat, you can use items, character abilities, and each attack charges up your ability points meter. You can control up to 3 characters and even have the…

22 hours played to get through the game and I enjoyed every bit of it! It doesn't reinvent the wheel, as it's a classical turn-based RPG with a pixelized artstyle that's absolutely gorgeous, but it does bring a modern touch to an old genre that I quite enjoy and thought was refreshing! Definitely worth playing! I want more of this! :)

Surprise, this is a controller game. I hope you didn't have any intention of playing without a controller. The graphics and music are great, but the writing is like something a child would write in elementary school There's no charm or wit, just an endless series of nonsensical and awkward non-sequiturs.

Beyond Galaxyland is literally the game I would make if I had the time, money, and gumption. I make no hesitation to say that. A beautiful blend of some of the best game mechanics over Final Fantasy, Bioshock, and Pokémon, as well as sci fi story beats ranging from classical authors like Douglas Adams to Larry Niven. This was truly an excellent game. I rarely leave reviews but I felt that I needed to for this It started off making me think it was going to be bland but over the next few hours I realized how great it is. The story, the music, the gameplay and the beautiful pixel graphics. Felt some great nostalgia playing but some really cooling camera work makes it feel uniquely modern. I know why there's no mid-tier review, people would use it too often, so that means I lean negative. The graphics are charming, the story, as far as I got, was somewhat interesting... but stop trying to put aspects of platforming into non-platforming games. There's no damn reason for it and the clunky as hell jumping in this game turned me off. I wanted an RPG with neat mechanics, but there are tons of other ones that don't have clunky jumping.

Considering that this was created mainly by one guy, if I was a game dev recruiter I would snap the fella up. A 2-D space adventure that has the vibes of Beyond Good & Evil and Flashback, with a smattering of simple but fun turn based battling. it is more than the sum of its parts. The story is by turns comedic and epic, with the protagonist (and his hamster) transported to a synthetic solar system, called Galaxyland, created by a galactic corporation just before the earth is destroyed by…

Beyond Galaxyland is a nice little side scrolling RPG that while it doesn’t have anything that specifically makes it standout, it is still a solid game and is an easy recommendation for anyone looking for a more casual and shorter RPG to get into. I 100% the game on my first playthrough and largely did not use a guide, I only used one to find and photograph some of the rare creatures for the Rare Creature quests I just didn’t want to run around old areas to look for. So as long as you actually…

Pros: Interesting parallax rail platformer Cons: Too much dialog, not enough action (or interaction), and everything requires a double jump. Game is "easy" .. yes, there are jump simple double-jump puzzles (for me, boring, no mantling or advanced "Prince of Persia" or "Flashback" style stuff), slightly more complex "plinko" puzzles, but the game relies on some odd plot points and the turn based combat is fine but so far a lot of the game has been really long winded, silly or unbelievable. No untagged spoilers. Tl;dr cautious recommend for puzzle platformer RPG fans. Pass for everyone else. Initial warning, there's no Steam cloud save and the save data is stored in the Windows registry. Good luck playing across multiple devices easily. Pros + High quality, polished, beautiful environments and lighting. Really stunning stuff for a pixelart game. It's a solid and fun turn-based RPG. The story is good, and it kept me entertained for the entire playthrough. When focusing on the main quest, the combat for me was rather easy, so I can even recommend it as a great entry point to the genre. The game also features some additional mechanics, such as races. The combat itself includes active blocking mechanics, abilities, passive trinkets, and a "pet-like" mechanic called summons. The most impressive part is that this is a solo indie-dev game,…

An amazing 2D sci-fi epic with memorable, well-developed characters, great dialogue, good variety of locales, and a punchy soundtrack. Decent monster variety with useful skills that can be captured via RNG pokemon mechanics. Game play is mostly 2D exploration with lite platforming. This is a real gem of an RPG, not necessarily great, but still quite good. Like a lot of indie games, it feels like Acts 1 and 3 of a 3-act play, but that's a common enough failing that I can't blame Beyond Galaxyland itself for such a common thing. It could use a bit more mechanical complexity, definitely some ability to build characters outside of equipment alone, but that doesn't take away from it just being a fun game to play. Could really use the ability to change clothes, though. Doug…

Want to start by saying that overall I loved this game and would absolutely recommend. It's just oozing heart and creativity, and I found it to be a very special, albeit flawed, experience. Pixel art is gorgeous, camera work is interesting, the background scenery has a ton of attention to detail. Combat system had a ton of potential but I eventually got bored of it…

Just finished the game and 100%d it. Overall, it was a good game. The 2.5D concept was pretty cool, the soundtrack was fantastic (mostly trap, but tasteful and catchy), combat was OK and on par with pretty much any turn based RPG I've played (the ability points were a decent change up). The ending of the story was a tad underwhelming though, but I'm not letting that define the entire game. Great job dev!

This game seems well received. I played for 20ish minutes. Take that into consideration. That out of the way... In 20 minutes I saw enough that I closed the game and tossed it on my "garbage bin" shelf in steam. This mere 20 minutes had: - the worst turn based combat system I've ever seen in a video game. Unfun, clunky, unclear, and bizarre. - awful movement control and feel, terrible lighting, and lastly but not less important, - unbelievably bad/cringe script writing. Sorry if this…

This game makes me feel nostalgic. While it's more of an RPG, it has the feel of the great old 90s games and could probably feel at home in a best of Sierra lineup. It just has the right amount and type of humor. I'm enjoying it quite a bit. It also has some modern touches and I really like the activeness of defense mechanics while still maintaining the turn based combat feel. Solid.

9/10, fun little linear RPG. Music and graphics are beautiful. The story in some parts is a bit poorly written, but overall decent. Roughly 12 hours to complete, 14 hours to 100%. I tried New Game+, not sure what I expected, there is zero replayability in it other than if you want to get any achievements you missed the slow way, rather than just getting them on your main save, or if you are an idiot like me and didn't take a picture of the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ penguin before completing the quest...

The platforming felt ab bit awkward and floaty at times but never to a point of being annoying. And the combat is not too difficult or complex which is actually a good thing. The game isn't overly difficult but the story was amusing and the art, atmosphere, and music were quite good, especially for an indie game. Fantastic 3D pixel / voxel art, great music, and a decently strong story make for a great sci-fi JRPG. It's a well made game all around and I was hooked the whole way through. The only real complaint I have is that there is a sidequest which results in an optional party member. The party member is not scaled to your level and starts at level 1, and the earliest you can get him, you'll be at least 10 levels ahead of him, so if you decide to use him, you need to spend some extra time grinding…

The price is right for this bite-sized RPG. The first thing you will notice is a lack of a lot of the polish you'd expect from an indie team, and the scope creep you'd expect from a solo developer. Beyond Galaxyland isn't a bad game by any means, but it's also a bit of a waste of time. 6 hours in and I have yet to meet a character, enemy, or plot point that isn't totally forgettable. It's not just a simple turn-base game, there is another mechanic gameplay inside a battle…

Having just finished the game with my kids (5 and 7 respectively) I will just relay their initial review: "We liked the whole entire game very much." On the actual feedback side, some of the platforming sections felt like they needed more fleshing out and also a few of the quests could do with some extra meat on their bones. But otherwise, this is an excellent love letter to the absolute GOAT Squaresoft games of the 16-bit era and, of course, an excellent game for kids who wanna get into…

I wasn't sure about this game at first but after barely two hours I got sucked in pretty quickly and now I've got all the all the achievements and am planning to do a new game plus run... safe to say It's about time I wrote a review. Pros: The story is fun and decently written, it's nothing outstanding but it certainly doesn't leave it feeling lacking. The worlds feel bustling and well defined from each other. The music is full of bangers. The visual style is a lot of fun though at…

Beyond Galaxyland is a simplified classic JRPG in a sci fi outer space setting with some mild platforming and puzzles and a timing based blocking system. It's extremely high quality throughout, from the fantastic 90's adventure style pixel graphics to a catchy soundtrack. It's a very dense game, only playing for about 20 hours if you hunt everything down and don't overgrind, but it's full of side quests, collectibles, and a bunch of powerful accessories and capturable summons. There's a healthy…

"RPG" is misleading - "role playing" implies making choices and actions with consequences. Just levelling up and gaining stats does not make an RPG. So if you expect anything remotely RPG-like, this isn't it. It's an action platformer with some story elements. The retro graphics and feel are cool, but overall the game didn't do it for me.

So fun! Loved this game. The gameplay mechanics reminded me a lot of Paper Mario, but the story is much stronger. The pixel graphics are gorgeous! Definitely recommended. Give this a try, I think you'll really enjoy it!

Short, sweet, and to the point. This game does not over stay its welcome. It is a fun romp through scifi. If that is you thing, this is your game.

its not bad, exactly. that said, i'm struggling to get into it a bit, like after 5 hours the game feels like a bit of a chore. For some folks, you might like it more. I suppose i'll try to explain. The good: - the environments are well polished. honestly they feel well done. this is probably what made me want to buy the game. - the writing is funny at times. - the game definitely has its charm. - there's some light platforming that's alright enough The bad: - the combat is kind of, idk…

i really wanted to like this game, had it on my wishlist for a while. i'm a sucker for turn-based rpg, but Beyond Galaxyland didn't do it for me </3 the gameplay felt slow and the music during combat even slower. lovely design, though. wish this game felt more epic :(
