Players praise the gameplay and story but report frequent crashes. [1][2][3] Many note the remaster has technical issues like crashes and save corruption. [4][5][6]

This is not a review of the game itself, I love this game and think it's a solid sequel that delivers improved gameplay and some great lore to the sadistic world of rapture. This review is aimed towards this lazy "Remaster." Constant crashing, visuals are barely improved, and hilariously there is no new game plus in this game unlike the first game's remaster because the new game plus feature was added to the ps3 …

Best gameplay in the series, a good story in the main game, and an amazing one in the DLC. The only downside was the constant crashes that made me lose hours of progress

This was a really good game. "Exactly how good is it?" you're probably wondering. ... Well, it's good enough that I was willing to finish it and leave a positive review even though the game crashed about every five minutes. Exaggerations aside, the game crashed about 15-20 times during my playthrough. I learned to save every few minutes, but still had to redo several sections. I was surprised since the first game …

Best Bioshock game easily. Better gameplay on top of a story that feels right at home with the original. A must-play. The port is genuinely atrocious and will crash at random, mod it if you can.

Would you kindly play this masterpiece? This game is nothing short of amazing, and it's really a shame that it's considered a "bad" game in the franchise. Almost everything from the original is improved upon. Yes, it can sometimes feel like a DLC or 1.5 version of the first game, but that's only on the surface. If you're looking for a good immersive sim and just a very polished game, then this is it. But BEWARE, …

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just wanted to write and warn others: this game keeps crashing to desktop randomly, over and over (I’ve lost count). I’ll keep playing (I’m a stubborn fool with way too much patience), but honestly… is it even worth it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love this game but the amount of time it crashes it ridicules remastered my ass I'm tired of the game crashing during each fight this game is over ten year old how is it still a problem!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best gameplay in the series, a good story in the main game, and an amazing one in the DLC. The only downside was the constant crashes that made me lose hours of progress
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love this game, but unfortunately the remastered version is not really "remastered" as save files can easily be corrupted. Game is fine, but you'll have to save every 5-10 minutes manually unless you want to risk losing a save file to corruption which happened to me. Doubt they'd fix it anytime soon, but losing 3-4 hours worth of progress because a save file corruption is enough for me to not recommend this game. Stick with the original Bioshock 2, not the remastered
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i love this game but it is unplayable , crashes every time to the point that i had to save like every 3-5 mins , lost hours of progress due to a glitch , worst gaming experience i have ever had
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Unfortunately this game has consistant crashes and requires constant saving here and there to get some progress saved. No autosave function to at least bring you back from a crash closer to where your progression would have been. Fantastic gameplay and story! Its the constant crashing thats a pure letdown for a remastered game.

This review is aimed towards this lazy "Remaster." negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They removed the multiplayer in the remaster. Sad. But the campaign is nice. It is funny how Bioshock 1 was praised as 'deep' for being a ciriticism of monopoly but Bioshock 2 was praised as 'dumb' for being a criticism of fake altruism. Make of that what you will, philosophically the game is peak. We've seen the horror of extreme self-interest in Bioshock 1, and Bioshock 2 flips the script in the opposite direction, is about people fully convinced they are the good guys fighting for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game has crashed multiple times. And for some reason this remaster doesn't have auto save. I lost 2 hours of time because of it. I doubt I'll finish it now since I have to spend 2 hours to make up for what I already did. What a joke.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bioshock 2 Remastered is a great example of how to port games to Switch. In 2010, I missed this beautiful game in my time and am very glad that I was able to get to know it thanks to the remastered version. The first part of Bioshock is one of the best games of its generation, the poet I did not expect much from the sequel, knowing in advance that Ken Levin had nothing to do with it. But Bioshock 2 is better in almost all aspects, except for a few tedious gameplay mechanics with little…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I cannot give positive review for a game that I couldn't play properly because of constant crashes.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Wanted to play it after enjoying BioShock 1 but man oh man this game is THE big daddy of crashes. Not only it crashes often, but also it loses current mission progress completely. Makes you to do it all over again. No thanks.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bioshock 2 is a game overshadowed by being the sequel to one of the most influential works in video games, which has turned it into a cult classic It was released three years after the original 2007 Bioshock, and the burden of following such a groundbreaking title took its toll. However, I’m writing this to defend what I consider a great game that complements and even surpasses the other two entries in the series in certain aspects. I won’t discuss the story to avoid spoiling the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Story is better in 1 but gameplay is more refined in 2. Plays great on PC and Steam Deck.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Why does this game crash? I've lost like an hour of progress, twice. I'm not even having fun anymore, I'm just trying to end this game once and for all so my OCD will let me start Bioshock 3.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →game is good but IT CRASHES ALL THE ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ TIME! if you play this you HAVE to save-scum or you'll be constantly lose HOURS of progress
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Would you kindly turn off "Steam Overlay" for this game. I did it and had zero crashes after that on linux.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a shame, this seemed better than the first in a lot of ways. But the game crashed often with no autosave feature so, no, I can't recommend a broken game. This is the remastered version as well, you'd think they'd fix it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The devs or project lead behind this remaster should be fired. Its known and has been for quite some time that the only thing that this game does is crash. A lot. You can lose an entire sections worth of progress over and over again because the game crashes constantly and they refuse to fix it to this day. How this is acceptable is beyond me but I'm tires of games allowed to be published in this state and are never fixed and by the time you put enough effort into playing it its way too late for…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Worked fine on the steam machine and with the steam controller, however there was at least two crashes I experienced so as always remember to save often. Short version: 7.3/10, loved the water, Dionysus Park was my favorite area. Would say its ironic that the movies plan for this series haven't been fully developed, people would enjoy the story and the connection between Delta and Eleanor. Achievementwise - 15-30 hours to 100%. Its doable would recommend two playthroughs First one easy for…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A crash made me lose >1h of progress. Crashes aside, apparently autosaving once or twice every map (or after certain events like rescuing a little sister) is too much to ask.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i WAS enjoying the game, until it crashed. and continued crashing. I guess i should've checked the reviews before bothering to start it. Then tried to refund it, and I can't because I've played more than 2 hours, so I guess it's MY fault the game didn't start crashing until after 4-6 hours and now crashes literally all the time. Yeah makes sense. I've tried the "work arounds" and nothing has worked. I also find it really sad and ridiculous that the gamers and fans are the ones having to try and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is great! Though these older games do have issues with crashing on the PC. This is a common issue with modern hardware and I've seen a lot of comments online about how the PC port isn't awesome. I had the same crashing issue other people have had, I got about halfway through the "Ryan Amuesments" chapter when the crashing started and it'd kick me out of the game. But I was able to reach out to 2K, the developers and ask what was going on. Over the course of a few days they worked with…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →great game. love the series, well the first two anyway. however this game has a MAJOR issue with crashing, and if you happen to be saving when it has a random seizure and crashes, it will delete your save file and you'll just have the autosave from when you first entered the level
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In my review for the first game, I suggested the people of Rapture needed to go to therapy. I stand corrected as therapy made things worse.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →still crashes right when you enter the area where delta was assembled at fontaine futuristics. they never bothered to patch it, but it works more or less fine until then.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Crashes way too much, just play the regular version. Audio is all messed up too. I'm in too deep to start over so I'm just going to power through it lol (Edit) Never mind, I gave up, started crashing way too much for me to want to keep playing. Play the original one.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A 10/10 shooter. Bioshock 2 may not match its predecessor in terms of story, atmosphere, art design or that spooky factor, but definitely provides a much more fast paced and refined combat. The Minerva DLC was what I expected from the base game. That plot twist and sadistic nature of npcs/antagonists. We do not get games like this anymore. Honestly years later, the gameplay and graphics still hold up. If you want to play something from the previous generation without sacrificing comfort of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game crashes approximately every 30 minutes. Sometimes you have a good run without crashes for nearly an hour, the other day it crashes every few minutes. The game only saves if you enter a new chapter, which can lead to losing hours of progress if the game suddenly crashes. I would have loved to play this game to the end, but I'm running out of patience. The amount of crashes with no fixes is no fun. What a shame.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I 100% completed this remaster for a YouTube video, but I can't recommend anyone play this because of the frequent crashing. It is beyond fustrating. I had the game crash 4 times in about 10 minutes. I had to redo a full area of the game because my save file would crash the game. This remaster also does the bare minimum. No modern auto-saving and it sometimes has glitchly text. The only thing changed from the original release is the 4K textures and removal of mutiplayer. If you're looking to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Crashes a lot. Especially in the beginning I could barely play without pressing quick save every few minutes to not lose my progress. The fixes with dx9 worked until the very last map. I played until about 5-10 minutes away from the final cutscene and then the game crashed. And since then no fix worked and at some point I loaded into a quick save and crashed every time. No amount of quicksaving could help me get through that level.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love the Bioshock franchise and 2 is my favorite, but it has a boatload of issues on PC. Be warned that the game is prone to crashing when doing various tasks like shooting weapons, killing enemies, and looting containers. There are plenty of guides on Steam and Reddit to fix the crashing problems, but be ready to troubleshoot.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Runs fine at first, but a few areas in and it will randomly crash and sometimes crash on loading a save.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love this game and it's been my favorite since I was a teenager. Unfortunately, I get game crash every 5 to 50 min depending on the day. I wish they'd given given, but I don't see it any time soon or ever. When an object doesn't generate incomes, the people behind choose not to care.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My game actually crashed mid manual save. I went to overwrite the last save to update progress, the game deleted the old save, then crashed out without making a new save bricking an entire run. Going to attempt to fix and retry. As much as I love the game and world, that should never have happened.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game and the remaster is fantastic but it crashes non stop. It’s borderline unplayable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, but the "remastered" version tends to crash every 10-15 minutes unlike the remastered version of Bioshock 1. It just totally ruins the fun and any possible immersion. Too bad.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Solid game bad port the game keep crashing at the last chapter idk why I had to play 2 hours twice just for the game to crash and for some reason there is no auto save so you have to guess when the game is going to crash to manually save the game After saving the game you might think you can start the game after it crashes an play again right ? Nooo!!! its going to crash again

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastic game. Easily my favorite in the franchise. This version is absolutely terrible. Extremely poor performance and crashed about 20 times during the main story and twice during Minerva's den. Bioshock 1 remastered ran flawlessly.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best Bioshock game easily. Better gameplay on top of a story that feels right at home with the original. A must-play. The port is genuinely atrocious and will crash at random, mod it if you can.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The story was good but the constant crashes and the fact that I was unable to use any of my weapons but the drill towards the end of the game was annoying
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →BioShock 2 Remastered took everything I loved about the first game and somehow made it even better. I loved playing as Subject Delta, and Eleanor quickly became one of my favorite characters in the series. I spent half the game thinking Sinclair was going to betray me, but instead he ended up being one of the best characters across both games. The ending genuinely had me tearing up with joy, and I just sat there smiling and shocked at the same time through the credits. My only complaint is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Best Shock Game Bioshock 2 is better than Bioshock 1 and miles ahead of Infinite, its a misunderstood masterpiece, gameplay and story are perfected and Minerva's Den twist blows the "would you kindly twist" out of the water. With that being said, the Remaster improves performance but crashes a lot. Don't let public opinion from tourists deter you from seeing this game for what it truly is, an improvement in almost everyway from its predecessor: An underrated gem.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This and the first BioShock are both criminally short games. I think the story in the first game is much better than this one, and I only really started to get into this story midway through the last act, but I did prefer the characters in BioShock 2. However, nothing can beat the aesthetic of Rapture. I’ll miss it when I do my BioShock Infinite playthrough. Keep in mind that BioShock 2 loves to crash on you, so save constantly, otherwise you’ll end up replaying Ryan Amusements two times over…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great Game, looks good for a remaster from a 10+years old game and very emersive. if you like to explore and search for little secrets go for it. !!!BUT!!! the constant crashes can get anoying and autosafe is only after some plothooks and when you switch areas, so spam the quicksafe. the default controlls are also... questionable but you get used to it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →BioShock 2 is a strange sequel for me because, in many ways, it is clearly a better game than the first one, but it also carries over one of the main problems I had with BioShock while introducing a technical issue that eventually made me stop playing. The first thing I noticed was how much better the presentation feels. Rapture still has the same distinctive visual identity, but BioShock 2 looks noticeably better and the cutscenes are more detailed and better integrated into the experience.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When I played this years ago I quit due to constant crashes, however these seem to be fixed now. I managed to play through the main game + DLC without a crash. I assume it's due to the 2K launcher being removed as nothing has changed with my PC. Great game and definitely worth playing, though I find it weaker than Bioshock 1 in both atmosphere and story. They should have done more in remastering it as it's pretty much identical to the old version and still has poor textures, bad lighting, and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →BioShock 2 seems like a good game, but this version crashes way too much to justify its base price.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bioshock 2 is the game that started my descent into madness. It’s the first game I ever remember buying, back on the 360, with its shiny cover art looking hard af. Having now gone through the trilogy, I think 2 is where the gameplay is at its best. I like how the tonics and plasmids work alongside the guns, and how you can make your build however you think it’s most effective. Story‑wise, I don’t think it is as strong as 1, but it is still great. I also appreciate that it doesn’t spoil…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it's more of bioshock 1 but this time you get to play as big daddy. a few new enemy variety, a few new guns, and a few new zones in Rapture for you to explore. there are several quality of life changes like the hacking minigame overhaul, perk system overhaul, adam is easy to find so you can experiment with your character build, etc.. most if not all of the story is told through characters talking to you through a radio and audio logs scattered throughout the world, which was my biggest…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →BioShock™ 2 Remastered doesn't quite have the same impact as the original, but I actually enjoyed the gameplay more. Playing as a Big Daddy is a lot of fun, and having more weapons and Plasmids to play around with makes the combat feel better. Rapture is still a fantastic setting, and I liked seeing another side of it through the eyes of someone who actually lived there. Unfortunately, the Remastered version is still pretty buggy. Crashes can happen fairly regularly, and there are reports of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very much like the first game but vastly improved with the gameplay as well as sorting a few neat additions. Bioshock 2 is a classic a good overall game. Not as good as the first story wise (excluding Minerva's den) but still alright. The shooting and plasmids feel great and smoother. I feel the ai is slightly better as well making the combat far more enjoyable. The hacking system is vastly better no more fluid through tubes, thank god. Characters are ok, I feel Sofia wasn't that great as the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You have to save all the time to prevent loss of your game progress as the game crashes frequently.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Would you kindly stop crashing every 30 minutes? Jesus Nothing will be enough to change my negative review after all those random crashes. This game was nothing short of frustrating to experience. It's been out for long enough there's no justifying these memory-leak related crash haven't been dealt with. There is no auto save so quicksave a lot, there's a nexus mod that allegedly fixes the crashes and a TON of tips online to do in. None of these things fixed it for me and there's no world in…
