So here's the thing. The developers abandoned this game, and didn't deliver on everything they promised they'd add - they ghosted everyone on their discord server, went silent, and started a new game instead. I do not recommend buying their new game. All of that being said, the reality is, if you let go of the baggage of what was promised, what IS here is a VERY good roguelite with fantastic combat and movement that …

Blade Assault is a tough game for me to review. First of all, I really love roguelites of all shapes and sizes and the gorgeous pixel art in this one immediately grabbed my attention. A fast-paced platform fighting roguelite with a cyberpunk setting? Count me in! But the overall arc of the game, including meta-progression, is really not the most satisfying. All the items you find are stat-increases and I rarely felt …

Devs literally took the money and left the game, they promised to release a good amount of new content but literally there's even unreleased core content, its all abandoned and unfinished so I won't recommend. still abandoned at 2026.

It has a final boss and can be completed, but this is an unfinished game- characters and weapons were never added, and the endgame zones are considerably less polished than the earlier ones- once you've seen them once, they don't change in any significant way. It's worth getting cheap/on sale if you're an action-roguelite fan, because it initially feels really fun to play and unlock new characters, but it leaves you …

Lack of Full Controller Support and Shallow Gameplay Hurt the Experience Blade Assault is one of those games that seems like it should be fun. It has nice graphics, a cool jazzy soundtrack, and a decent variety of enemies and bosses. On the surface, it looks solid, but once you start playing, the problems quickly show up. The biggest issue is the lack of proper controller support. For a fast-paced action game like …

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Warning: For all intensive purposes this game is abandoned by its devs on the PC version with only limited support on console version for PS5. There was extensive additional content planned which will likely never see release on PC if at all. I cannot recommend purchasing the game as a result of choosing to silently abandon the pc version without making any public statement on this platform.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Devs just completely abandoned the game and left it forever unfinished.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is abandoned. Don't get me wrong, I spent 30 hours in the game and had a lot of fun, played just about every style, element, and character, and had a great time. But the game is abandoned so at best, pick it up on sale.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →devs literally took the money and ran, it was a good concept but it's literally been abandoned
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The devs of this game have completely abandoned it. They took the bag and left when there is so much unfinished content in this game. A whole character not released, alternate weapons for characters not coming at all, core aspects of this game completely trashed because TeamSuneat / NEOWIZ decided to completely abandon any and all updates for this game and go completely radio silent on all fronts. No tweets for the last year and a half, no blog posts about the state of the game or even simple…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not a terrible game at the current sale price ($4), but it's not finished. The "ending" is just beating the boss and you fly away with there seemingly being more intended. They clearly intended to do more here before closing up shop since, for example, the main character is the only person with additional weapons and even then there's still an extra unused weapon slot. There's room for more characters at the bar that were probably never added. Zett, the final character, doesn't have dialogue…

If you like my remarks about games, you can find more of them here: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/44130985-TDP%27s-Gaming-Escapades I bought Blade Assault back when it was in early access. It was an incredibly buggy mess that still showed a lot of potential, so I held on with my purchase and decided to wait until it was finished. Eventually, I forgot about it until a while ago and decided to try it out. And then... Honestly, I am beyond…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is abandoned, don't waste your money. Had amazing potential, sadly the devs don't care.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A lot of content is left unreleased. Game has been abandoned. No patches no feedback from devs. Can t recommend it to anyone in its current state.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Disappointed in myself for not refunding this earlier, as it's unfinished, poorly localized, and overall kind of confusing. According to others, the devs basically took the money and ran - and based on the state of the game, I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. It's a bit hard to fully describe how weird it feels to play this, but on a scale of Terraria (initially overwhelming, but after playing for a bit you feel like you know at least the basics) to Neoverse (weird-ass fever dream…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Slight change in plans tonight! I'm not in an artsy mood, so let's check out one (or more) games I picked up during the steam sale! First up is Blade Assault, a game that is totally 100% about me www.twitch.tv/glottal
neutral · AI labelView post →I can't get my standard Xbox controller to work. This game seems to only want to use my keyboard. To play a platform style game....a keyboard is a nightmare. I'm sure there is someway to fix this issue, but it's 2024, shouldn't this be taken care of already? It's annoying when things like this seem to completely ruin an otherwise interesting game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DON T WORK ,FIX IT !
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Devs left the game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →NO CONTROLLER SUPPORT! Could be a great came but the controls suck. No controller support is a HUGE mistake. Tried rebinding them and setting up my own but does not feel right. games like this NEED to be played with a controller. Keyboard controls are just garbage. (xbox controller)
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a really interesting rogue-lite game but it's such a pity that this game has been abandoned. Let me just point this out to ANYONE whom wish to get this game, Boss? Easy win, pattern is super readable, Enemy? That's your true boss.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Becareful, they made a new game called Dragon is Dead, so look out before buying it as it my ''die'' too early aswell, and not be finished like it should, especially that they are already showing DLC in the roadmap when game is suppose to be in early access for quite some time yet. About Blade Assault, the game itself is fun, but if i knew that they would promise things like 3 weapons for every character and not delivering it, and not saying a single word about it and dodging every single…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Genuinely did enjoy the game, and didn't face too much difficulty, so I personally don't understand the difficulty comments, but the game is abandoned. It really should have become better with time/had more to it with time. That's partly why I got it initially, I really enjoyed the initial gameplay and was excited for changes. Those changes never came. And seeing it on sale reminded me that others should not buy this game and I should make sure others don't. On principle alone, I'd say no one…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's Dead Cells, but a lot worse. Just play Dead Cells.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →very fun game, different characters/play styles, different weapons and upgrade, had a lot of fun with it but as mentioned: abandoned by the devs, after a while its always the same enemies, always the same order, always the same bosses, no variety if you wanna have fun for a while, go for it! but no long-term commitment here

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Kinda fun, but feels badly balanced. Runs will succeed or fail at seemingly random. Lots of boring items that feel like filler. A lot of the text in this is so badly translated that it'll often be hard to even understand what an upgrade does. EDIT: I'll give the game this; it certainly had me coming up for "just another run" over and over. I think there's a really good game here, just very short of being great. Just needed more polish, but from what I've read the devs abandoned this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Decent as a beat-em-up, kinda bad as a roguelike so you won't get much replayability.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It pains me to do so because I really enjoyed the game but I can't really recommend this one since it was abandoned after a lot of promises there are still a few things missing or as placeholders and the controller support is pretty limited, I was able to play with mine without problems but as far as I know there are a lot of people that can't really get it to work.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's kinda fun for quite a few hours, but gets stale. It's got quite a few roguelike things going for it. The combat is fairly fun, but soon enough you end up repeating the same thing over and over. Same levels, same layout, same enemies and bosses with minimal move sets. Give it a shot on a promo, but don't expect to complete the whole thing. Some items and perks felt a bit buggy. Not sure the bonuses even worked right. Took a while to work out what certain things even do. There's quite a few…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Jank is real in this one and the language is translated soo poorly to the point that basic pronouns are getting botched. It might be a good experience if you enjoy the combat even though it feels to me like its ripped from a mobile game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't recommend. Not cause it is bad, but because like others have said it was abandoned. This was incredibly fun and had something unique I believe when it came to roguelites so it makes me sad to see it just die. On the other hand now, A-91 dropped BlazBlues: Entropy Effect. Which is just a better version of this game it seems like.

neutral · AI labelView post →When this first released, i think there was something here. But with the deluge of action roguelikes, this one doesnt keep up very well.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun game, needs more content but the game has been abandoned. Once you figure out the system it's too easy to beat, but it's a fun experience up until that point.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DO NOT buy this game. It's abandoned and unfinished.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I will update this review as I play more, but first impressions were largely positive. I had no controller issues as mentioned in some other reviews. My Xbox controller worked just fine. Combat is responsive and at least for the first hour you are constantly gaining different skills and abilities that spice up the combat. The combat itself feels maybe a bit easy for a Roguelite. I played two runs in my hour so far. I died on the second boss in the first run due to some sloppy play but easily…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →devs decided that it was time to simply turn the game into a cashgrab and disappear
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like the game, it's a roguelite platformer where you clear stages until you beat the game or can't anymore then progressively lvl up your abilities and weapons, and it feel balanced. But it remained unfinished as only 1 of the 4 available characters has access to alternative weapons each with different paths.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love the graphics and character designs but as for the gameplay this I really can't recommend this one. Keep in mind that there are better games like this available on Steam.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gets extremly repetitive fast, you'll repeat the same gameplay loop for the entirety of the game which is the case with the overwhelming majority of roguelikes but this one couldn't keep me engaged at all. It will get easier while grinding but I can't stay engaged whenever I am fighting the same enemy type, with limited attack patterns, in the same area with the same weapon builds and buffs - the characters and weapons can change but there are very few builds which feel like they actually…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm sure this is a great game, but unfortunately I won't be able to find out. In the 2+ hours I attempted to fix this game, I've done the following: - verified my controller driver/settings/callibration of the controller - verified that the controller itself is working by playing other games that have the same button layout - changed the button layout 3+ times - watched steam keep trying to set my X button to also map to left trigger - Launched and closed this game a dozen times, unplugging,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Been looking for good solid action games and Blade Assault does not disappoint!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Does not natively support Xinput or controllers, or even steam input. Remapple controls do not work natively. You must use steam input to remap your controller to keybinds then remap them in game. Terrible way to start.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really? No controller support for a game like this? I guess I could map them in Steam, but this is just incomprehensibly stupid.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So, I don't normally write many reviews, but I think just in case I'm going to have to say some things here because while I don't /overall/ recommend the game I do think some of the negative reviews aren't fully correct or miss important points, let's get started. Game gets more difficult the longer you take: This is a trait of the game, however it's also a bit distorted. While this mechanic is here it is not perpetually active, at the end of each stage a final wave of enemies is triggered…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While the controls are tight and the combat / building is engaging, I can imagine this growing stale a few more hours in. That being said, it's clear that a lot of love went into making this game. It's got a unique identity, and for the price at which I got it (80% off) I'm very glad to have this game in my collection.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Janky movement, or maybe I'm just slow. Either way I can't get used to the mechanics. Great art style tho.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wouldn't say the game is necessarily bad, but there are much better options out there. It's still a very pretty and fun game to play. I do wish I was able to play it on steamlink though instead of being stuck at my desk.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Today’s Black Video Game Character: Zett (Blade Assault)
neutral · AI labelView post →Price policy of neowiz very disappointed
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Geme with that type gameplay and without support gamepad? Are you crazy? Its unpayble!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →the movement is fluid. the action is smooth. there are a lot of different playstyles by using different characters. each run feels fun to me, the bosses are fun to fight. the only minor nitpick I have is that some things like picking up coins don't have a sound effect, and some times the screen gets overloaded with so many effects/enemies it is hard to see that there is an incoming attack, other than that I am very satisfied with the combat/game loop.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you like upgrading your characters and getting stronger and stronger throughout a run. Then this is your game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun little rouge-like. I like it, makes me feel like a bad ass. A bit of a slow start at the begining though. You have to beat at least one boss before you have currency for any future runs. I like it because you can make all sorts of crazy builds like a ninja that summons more ninjas or a character with a chainsaw for a sword
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Blade Assault is pretty good, I like the style and action. It's a Roguelike platform fighting game.
positive · AI labelView post →Personally, this isn't my cup of tea. I generally have no idea what's going on, a lot is dumped on you in a small time frame, and the gameplay just isn't very enticing to me to keep playing. I would only recommend this if you're heavily into 2D platformers.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun, but no story or replayabillity
