What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 184 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (932 of 1,144 positive).
Many players find Battle Shapers a polished and fun FPS roguelite, praising its combat and upgrade systems. [1][2] Some reviewers criticize the game for long runs and a lack of content or impactful progression. [3][4][5] A few players note that the game starts slowly but becomes more enjoyable after unlocking more abilities. [6][7][8]

Battle Shapers is an excellent shooter trapped inside a roguelite that completely disrespects your time. The shooting, dashing, jumping, and double-jumping feel every bit as polished as Roboquest. The artwork is excellent and the enemy variety is solid. That combat is the only reason I tolerated everything surrounding it long enough to beat the game. There are four biomes, most split into two sections. Even skipping …

So, after finally getting the final achievement, I'm more than ready to give my review for this game. If you're into FPS Roguelites, this one is a great pick! There are a lot of fun weapons to try out to find your favourites in, and same goes for abilities and Core Combinations! Of course, not every weapon is created equal so some are more commonly better than others, but I do recommend to give every weapon at least …

What an under-rated gem this game was. It admittedly doesn't have a lot that is innovative. But what it offers is a tight and polished experience that made me forget I've blown through 20 hours in 4 days. The ability to rip modifiers from loot to stack up your current loadout offers chaos that never ceased me from cracking a smile when a build comes online. The melee is especially satisfying; it is exactly as the …

I'm mainly writing this review because the negative reviews have a ton of misinformation for some reason. I have to assume the authors didn't engage with the upgrade system or the difficulty system back at the base. - "Guns have one mod slot" No, you get upgrades that allow you to have up to five interchangeable plus the mod inherent to each gun. - "Bosses don't change between runs" Boss behaviors change depending …

I have played a lot of Gunfire Reborn and Roboquest, both games I consider peak roguelite shooters and let me say, I have no idea why this is sitting on "mixed". I have a guess though. The first runs are very bare bones. You don't get another "class skill" until you killed a boss at least 2 times and the first class skill is a bit... boring. Yeah, I can understand why it is a bit dry in the beginning and it is a …

That is to say, I don't think I can point to a case where the game would have been otherwise good. Adding badly written characters to bad games does make them if anything marginally better (at least they're consistent 😅), plus unless the devs completely lost control of their own project the consultation company would **not** actually implement the characters. They'd give you…
neutral · AI labelView post →While I would recommend this game, you should know what you are getting. As for me I have very little incentive to boot it up again. PROS: - I personally like the art style and the very colorful nature of it. For me one of the main draws of the game. - Combat is generally OK. - Game runs great. I have a very mid gaming laptop with a 1660 TI. Runs 1440p on High at 60 FPS no problem. The not so great: - I turned off the music after about 15 min. Just some random guitar playing in the…

neutral · AI labelView post →The visuals are great, and the art style is fantastic all the way. The sound design is flawless, with shot effects for weapons sounding particularly engaging and satisfying. But unfortunately this feels more like a proof of concept than a fleshed-out idea. "Could we make Mega Man as a FPS?" was the question they asked, but forgot that every game needs some sort of a hook to make you want to play more. The power-ups seldom feel exciting or playful. The long-term progression does not feel…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Strictly talking about the gameplay this game is definitely enjoyable, while the guns are a bit mixed especially since You're likely to just use the automatic weapons due to easier usage. the bosses that it has is actually pretty well done and gives good enough chaos in the fight while still being clear on how to fight them. But that's also where it kinda just ends. The game, in my opinion, is lacking in content. You fight through the exact same boss set (but you can choose whom to fight…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the most underrated rogue likes I've ever seen. Honestly give me the same kind of adrenaline you get from games like Doom Eternal. Don't know why this isn't more popular. Play this!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If I could give a neutral rating I would but given the choice of recommend or don't I have to say I don't The Bad: The runs are SO long. it's 4 sections for every run and each section takes as long as a full run in other games like Deadlink or Roboquest. The builds don't have the level of impact you would like either. The cores and abilities just feel meh. One gives you double jump, which is just a standard in the genre, and you basically end up just using that because of the utility.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Oh. Make that 251. Battle Shapers just left early access like 20 minutes ago. It's on sale now, and very good. Like a heavier, more technical (and slightly Mega Man X-themed) Roboquest. store.steampowered.com/app/1421290/...
positive · AI labelView post →Pros good game play loop good weapon variety great music the first 3 bosses are great being able to choose which you fight first, second and third is great having diffrent cores, 1 standard and 1 per boss with all diffrent abilities is great good mod system being able too swap buffs from one weapon to another Cons they talk too much, there is a text box after everything you do (doesnt impair gameplay just annoying) Difficulty setting is kinda bad (doesnt feel anything really changes between…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Battle Shapers, simply put, is a lot of fun. It has all the fun of a roguelike-expressing skill, trying to build overpowered combinations-combined with the thrill of a movement shooter, to blast tons of robots into smithereens. The game can also be fairly funny at times, when it wants to be, with its characters in small roles, but not at the expense of the gameplay. The core loop is fun, simply put. There's a good variety in enemies, the bosses are well designed (no one-trick gimmicks! Learn…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game just isn't any fun and there's basically no reason to play it over its competition. I wish I had something more insightful to say but a boomer-shooter should not be struggling *this much* to properly hook me. The main issue is a combination of the style and gameplay. The game's artstyle and music is more reminiscent of something like Megaman or Megaman X than any FPS. Battleshapers features bright colors, a plasticky shading to everything where robots look like action figures and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At first I wasn't sure if I should keep the game. At around the 2-hour mark, the game still didn't seem to differentiate itself much from Roboquest. So why would I need another one? Turned out I was wrong. Once the combat and maneuver skills kicked in, it's Mega Doom Eternal Man X on steroid. The active and passive skills synergize nicely and the ability to transfer weapon perks allows great freedom to experiment. The first-person platforming is all right. I'm not a big fan of that though.…

neutral · AI labelView post →This game deserves way better criticism. It is an absolute blast to play and, over time, provides the player more mechanics and tools to manage the combat encounters and light puzzles within each level. Battle Shapers is a rogue-lite first person shooter that sees the player take on the mantle of a Shaper that has to use a varied set of tools to defeat a varied set of enemies before encountering bosses at the end of each level. Some people are giving negative reviews after only two runs! It…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't know where these recent negative reviews came from, this game is like a good, honest, 7/10. Polished, multiple mechanics that you can use throughout your runs, lots of weapons and unlocks, some secrets, decent modifiers and challenges. If you like rogue-lite shooters I would be very surprised if you didn't get enjoyment from this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Battle Shapers is currently 35% off and I recommend it to people who enjoy roguelite shooters: store.steampowered.com/app/1421290/... Steam review and more detailed thoughts attached.
positive · AI labelView post →Roboquest inspired FPS roguelike with some good innovations in mechanics and upgrade potential. However runs are definitely too long but you can save and quit and come back. Good game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely fun and addicting fps roguelite with so much care and love put into it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i wanted to like this game because of the idea of like creating your own guns n stuff. But the systems just felt shallow and the gameplay-feel felt lacking. Maybe its the lacking SFX from shooting your guns and hitting enemies or the music. But there's really something here that wasn't giving the same amount of satisfaction as I get when playing other shooters. In this short 5 hours it really felt like I already saw the entire depth of the game and I just didnt find it interesting. Which…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Battle Shapers: Beautiful, Punchy, and Just a Bit Confused About What It Wants to Be. Let me start with the important bit: it's gorgeous. It runs like a dream, looks fantastic, and plays like someone actually knew what they were doing - which, frankly, is a nice change of pace. My mate Johan watched me play for about ten minutes and went "oh, that's lovely," and Johan doesn't say nice things about anything. He once described a sunset as "a bit much." So this is a fast-paced FPS roguelite, and…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like this one, I so kind of wish it had a bit bit more to it in terms of the loop and the combat, but it is one of the better shooter roguelikes.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very nice and fun. Update: Actually one of the best roguelite/likes FPS games I've ever played. It's real good.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Man, I just love this game. The movement, the combat, the upgrade systems, the music, it's all just so freaking good. Devs, you nailed it with this one, much love!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →very fun game takes me back to the days when i was playing the transformers cybertron games its definitely worth the money and time to experience this masterpiece
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Have you ever imagined or wanted a Megaman X roguelite FPS that was actually fun? This game is more or less that.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is a blast. Mind numbing, over saturated, and visceral, the over all vibe is corny. I wish it had some PvP.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great combat, great soundtrack. Its a short game with enough content for a smaller prize, which is absoluetely fair. If you like Doom 2016 for the combat, this is the rougelite cartooney version of it, must have!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Even on very low settings on steam deck, the fps is so low that it's virtually unplayable. It might be ok on PC though, and if so then it's worth buying for sure. Very fun. Edit: after messing around in the options, I found out that turning off vsync makes it run well on steam deck, with no screen tearing surprisingly.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dont bother, boring repetitive and about as deep as a puddle.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like Battle Shapers. I really did. I love Megaman, and this game feels, from all of it's promo material, very megaman-coded. Instead, it's a very generic, samey rogue-shooter with mechanics that barely change between runs. The guns on offer are the standard fare. The upgrades and powerups tend to be very "Statistical" rather than actually changing anything meaningful in your run. "Shots have a chance to reflect off surfaces." "Reflected shots do more damage"…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ENG : This game is a mix of cartoon-style graphics and Doom. If you're looking for a fun, stress-relieving game to take your mind off things, I'd say give it a try. TR : Bu oyun dooma benzeyen kafa dağıtmalık ve stres atmalık bir oyun arıyorsanız ve bu tarz oyunları seviyorsanız tavsiye ederim .
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I saw someone say Megaman + Returnal and that's the best explanation I can think of.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's Deadzone Rogue for co-op and more mature aesthetic and then there's this gem, it's quite fun to play with a daily challenge . Recommend doing the wind boss before the melee boss.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game does so many things well. Dynamic action, smart progression, and plenty of systems to make each run feel unique, which seems to be a rare trait in roguelite games as of late.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Admitedly, I'm not the hugest fan of the artstyle. I don't mind the way they went with it, parts of it kinda felt megaman-ish or even ratchett and clank. I think it just felt like it could be sharper in the designs, some of the guns look like painted NERF guns. The music is a bit generic also, I found myself muting the soundtrack and just putting on the Risk of Rain 2 soundtrack while playing it which improved the tone quite a bit personally. Somewhat dissonant synthy tones and this mechanical…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →a fun way to pass the time. I look forward to more bosses and environments.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice roguelite fps. I absolutely hate the lack of an ingame encyclopedia and the opaqueness of stats but that's good therapy for min/max addiction, lol
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really fun rogue-lite, the game uses well the tools of the genre to make progression feels good, even a lost run will need to significant progress to make you have access to more and more power The gameplay is engaging and even if some weapon are more fun/efficient than others, the game offers way for each run to feel good, and the core mechanic that gets unlocked after a few run allows to expand even more the type of move/build orientation you'll have access to The game-design surrounding the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is awesome. I tell anyone that doesn't ask me about this game and it should have more traction. Great stuff.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love Robo Quest and automatically love this too! Good job!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →DOOM + Mega Man. Nothing else to say.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Every action in this game takes a little more time than you'd expect, enemy spawn reload, shop showing the items. It's not "blazing fast" there are tac shooters with faster and more interesting movement than this. The optimization is pretty bad, movement feels sluggish, weapons don't really have a kick to them, as it all just sounds like space lasers.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very underrated roguelike shooter, highly recommend!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →7,5/10 A very good roguelite shooter strangely similar to Roboquest in its theme. But despite the likeness, Battle Shapers offers a sufficiently different experience. The gameplay is very good, visually impactful and very responsive. There are ranged weapons but there is also a melee attack. And it's well made, I enjoyed the animation, and the slight slow motion when your punch finish off an enemy. And this melee attack is not just for show, it has many usages. The character is also greatly…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Feels like the robo FPS but a less a good version. It shoots nice and it is quite easy. Just strafe and shoot, and you win. Lacks the variety and enemies when you clear floors. If you got a chance I will recommend roboquest or doom or UT to be honest. This is okay. 6/10
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I mean this in the most complimentary way possible... its like Quake, Metroid, and Megaman X all had a weird threesome and somehow Megaman came out pregnant and birthed an awesome combination of all three's genetics. This game is the first-person Megaman game I dreamed of since those old DOS shooter and SNES days. The action does start off a bit slow, in the sense that you only have a couple weapon options and almost no abilities. However if you can clear the first level (I suggest the Wind…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An incredibly fun game and probably one of the best roguelikes I've ever played, Battle Shapers is a very good FPS that focuses on arena combat. As Ada, you're tasked to vanquish the evil robot overlords and their leader from a metropolis. The story won't win any prices, but whatever - you're here to shoot and punch your way through robot hordes, and Battle Shapers does a great job at that. Ada is equipped with a big robot fist and one of several guns and abilities you can find during your…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Battle Shapers is an enjoyable experience for those who enjoy arcade FPS roguelites or old-school fast-paced shooters. If you liked Roboquest or Gunfire Reborn, you’ll probably dig this. It’s obviously inspired by Mega Man judging by the theme and aesthetic. I also got a bit of a Metroid Prime vibe, but I never actually played that game, so it’s possible I’m talking out my ass on that one. The story’s not worth mentioning, but who gives a ♥♥♥♥ in a game like this, feel me? The gameplay’s…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game has some fun ideas, like the cool weapon customization that lets you attach mods from unwanted guns, but the game gets stale really fast. The main character is bland as ♥♥♥♥ and the writing is quite mediocre, which you can thank Sweet Baby Inc for. The game also desperately needed voice work because there are sections where characters talk during fights and it is impossible to read subtitles while you are trying to aim and shoot. The weapon balance is poor too. Some guns are clearly…
