Star Fire: Eternal Cycle
Developer Ethereal Fish Studio
Star Fire is a love letter to classic arcade side-scrollers, reimagined with roguelite progression, modern action polish, and that “just one more run” itch. It’s fast, punchy, and all about no-pressure fun with tight combat, slick movement, and endless ways to cause chaos. From the Steam store page

What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 171 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (1,171 of 1,273 positive).
Some reviewers criticize enemy health as too high, making fights feel like a slog. [1][2][3] A few players allege the game uses AI-generated art without proper disclosure. [4][5][6]

Ai generated content in the game and the developer has openly admitted to using it on Twitter and is refusing to disclose it which they're supposed to do according to Steam's TOS. These gen ai models are immoral and they're all at their very core theft. I felt scammed buying it when I noticed this.

Very good looking, fluid, fast responsive and fun game !!! I am really enjoying it. The weapons give you different play styles, the numerous games systems are well balanced and works. I would love to see more game like this one. It feel very polished and profesional, movement never stiff. Music is giving energy but is not annoying. When I feel I want to let go of my rage on NPCs, I grabe the thunder gloves and beat …

TL;DR: I'm having a great time with this game! While I can nitpick about certain details, overall this is an excellent product and absolutely worth the price. Here are my initial impressions after a couple days of play. Things I like: Build variety is excellent. I've managed to unlock all the weapons, and while I prefer some over others, all of them are viable into the highest difficulty. Each weapon has a few …

>>> The enemies and bosses are WAY too spongy, they last WAY too much, they have WAY too much life, it gets tiresome, either ramp up the player damage, let the playar get more damage or tone down the life and damage of the enemies, they last WAY too much, just because of the HP, the moveset of the bosses are all right, but man, one gets tired, even after upgrade, except for the second boss, the worm, which its …

(Ignore the low playtime, as I played the previous demos and playtests) I wish I could give this a sideways thumb. The presentation is good but the gameplay leaves a lot to be desired. This is one of those action roguelikes that only feels good when you get a build going, but is a boring frustrating slog otherwise. The main reasons for this are the flawed defensive options, HP sponge elites/bosses, and nonexistent …

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The demo for this was extremely fun but the devs decided to make massive changes before the release which completely ruin the enjoyment levels. Before you could choose a main weapon and sub weapon at the start of your run, which allowed for some really fun builds. Now there is a core system with limited slots and matching same core types do different things. In addition to all of that, all of the bosses have massive amounts of health and are just huge sponges.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is very fun but also it's very fast to figure out and start fishing for builds and rerolling. Main reason to refund and stop playing is AI garbage they filled the game with. They didn't spend money on art but ask for your money to buy the thing they didn't bother making. Not happening.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →COOL POTENTIAL, LACKING THE X FACTOR Pros The gameplay is pretty smooth, and i actually like that each weapon is different enough to feel distinct, and also have special affixes that can make them operate differently, rather than just numbers go up. Movement and reaction also feel very responsive. There is also a toggle to adjust the screen effects if you find it too cluttered, that was a nice touch. Enemies are varied enough and poses decent challenge, the bosses also have a pretty wide set…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Some negative reviews are comedy. Bullet sponge bosses? I’ve destroyed elites and bosses with out getting hit. Learn the core system, how to forge, and merge the cores in the shop. Pick cores with similar rarities and don’t be afraid to read what they do. You’re welcome😂
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun at it's core, but so far a very glaring issue is the ridiculous health pools of bosses starting from level 3 - having to hit the same damage sponge for 10 minutes is not entertaining, and even if it does get faster later, for me, as a new player, this pushes me away to play something similar but better, like BBEE. I support improvement, but if this game will not change in required time, i will, indeed, refund it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very enjoyable action roguelite, I had a great time. there are definitely some balance issues with a few of the combos you can do... when you can beat the final boss in under 1 seconds because of how busted a combo is... something is off but its still fun as you can just not run that combo if you want a challenge. My first difficulty 6 clear was a challenge as I didn't discovered that combo until the next run!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No 'meh' option which is what this review would be if I had the choice. First the good: There aren't any technical issues that I encountered. The game runs smooth, controls are responsive and customizable. The graphics are stylistic but not anything to write home about. The screen clutter gets borderline unplayable with certain weapon/core combos but there are graphic options to tone them down. A lot of little quality of life things that make the experience mostly irritation free, which is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Hmm... ok, I get this game now I wrote a long, mostly negative review filled with lengthy descriptions of cons because I didn't get this game. I didn't understand what it wanted. At the 13-ish hour mark, I began to slowly realize what this game was trying to get you to do. It wants you to break it. But you won't get far in this game if you simply make an OP build. No, a regular "that's kinda OP" build will not get the job done here. You need to be able just DELETE bosses in seconds, or your…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game just isn’t for me. I’m sure there’s a crowd who will enjoy it, it isn’t poorly made, it runs well, and the art is serviceable, it’s just not what I was expecting. It's presented like a beatemup but it plays like a spammy action RPG. After playing other new rouge-like titles like Absolum, this one falls short in a lot of areas. It drops you into the game unceremoniously with basically no tutorialization, and it shows pretty much everything the game has to offer right away. There are…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had a solid 8 hours of fun with this game, but unfortunately that will be about it. My issues were mostly that the choices rarely mattered in the end, as you could force a build that is able to buy everything in every run. Then you just held the X button until the Y button was ready, rinsed and repeated. Dodging hardly mattered at the end because a) there was so much stuff on the screen that perfect dodges were either completely impossible, or incredibly punishing, and b) any build that…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I cannot in good faith recomment this game. Not only are the Bosses are EXTREME DAMAGE SPONGES, but balance is non-existant. You start at difficulty 1 - which means you only have stage 1 unlocked. After you unlock difficulty 4 - and can progress deeper into the game, the issues become glaring and unfortunately, unavoidable. There is a huge difficulty spike in between difficulty 3 and 4. There are a lot of stats - crit damage, fixed damage, weapon damage, piecing damage, etc etc. On difficulty…

neutral · AI labelView post →This game is crazy hard, makes me hate it at times, but the next run or the one after goes better. When you're in the zone it's awesome, when you're in danger zone you wish you could retry the boss. Some attacks are complete BS and are only there to give you freeze time opportunities and some others are just annoying to evade. I may complain about the difficulty, but it's the hook that keeps reeling me in. You can be a tornado of death or a wet noodle depending on your luck. Elem combos of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gameplay is fine. Game is advertised for gameplay AND cosmetics/skins. I am 1.5 hours in and still can't equip a skin or change my cosmetics/skins. Game feels sort of misleading because there has been 0 character customization options since I started.

neutral · AI labelView post →I ALMOST think this was good enough to keep as a rogue like. Unfortunately, the combat just didn't feel satisfying enough. There didn't feel like there was any "ooomph" behind the characters attacks, or the enemies. Nothing really felt... weighty. Just sparks flying around the screen and damage numbers, and either I won or I didn't. I agree with other reviewers about the damage spongeyness of bosses. I get that the forge mechanics can allow me to increase my attack power enough to eventually be…

neutral · AI labelView post →I bought this game because I saw the devs were active with answering reviews here on steam. That's pretty rare so I thought it was a good sign and the game looked kind of interesting from the youtube vids I saw on it. But holy F is it a terrible game. The weapons feel like dog-poop. The numbers start out way too high so they make no sense. Why am I hitting for 800 trillion billion after 1 hour of gameplay? The super skills are way too overpowered. I literally oneshot a boss with it. Everything…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Have to do too much to unlock the ability to change skins. They advertise so much of the game using different skins and weapons, as if it is a core gameplay function off the bat, but it is not at all. The stupid ass game doesn't even mention how, when, where to unlock ability to change skins AT ALL, while advertising and announcing skins. You have to put HOURS grinding to get another weapon, and nearly EVERYTHING is RNG. Just very very disappointing and kind of wish I played less and sooner…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First and foremost, do not listen to those who say it gets "Repetitive" after only 4.5 hours. It just means they were not able to progress to the game and got stuck at the 4th boss. (I got stuck on this stage too for quite a while, to be fair. I was able to beat normal mode when I accidentally created one of my favorite builds, 6 ice cores and 2 water cores) There is so much stuff to do and unlock I love it. As I am typipng this, I used the wind armor and created a wind-water combo, and I just…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I see absolutely everything and have it all under control. Every single step, every single dodge, every single attack is well coordinated and consciously executed... except for when I don't see poop because of all the flashy bling bling swoosh boom thingies which accumulates to about 90% of all the time. Button mashing was never so fun!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Ai Generated game, I am only giving it a positive review because I had fun but I wish they state somewhere where everyone can see that it uses AI.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Played for 5-6 hours and I want to give my feedback. At first, I wasn't too sure. I played it once, then I didn't come back for several days. It felt a bit too basic though I think the difficulty was at a very good level. But then I came back, started playing again and I started unlocking other weapons, skins, and even learned that I could unlock more elements like Ice. I begin to notice I got more and more addicted afterwards. The Bow And Arrow was super fun to use. Now I unlocked the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Love it, a beautiful action-packed roguelike with lots of replay value and a sexy Waifu! Side-scrolling combat controls take some time to get used to depending which weapon you use, but apart from this I did not find any minor negative points in the game so far. This is one of those games where you need to get good, by not dying too much but analyzing the basics and upgrading yourself fast. At the start the bosses seem difficult, but there's not much science to the game and all you have to do…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's fun. 8h in, 4th stage done. you do a run, make some progress and then immediately wanna go again and try something else. The urge to do "one more run" is strong here. EDIT: 24h in, completed the story mode multiple times with different character setups. It's definitely fun to complete this more than once and test different stuff. Some combinations feel kinda lame, others described it at "damage like a wet towel", while other combinations feel super strong. No strong dependency on the RNG,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I DON´T recommend this game. It is terribly balanced, enemies in higher levels are just infinite sponges. I think this looks good but plays terribly. There´s no clear story either. Good luck to the developers and I hope they fix the game.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →First impressions were a bit negative because it felt weird and janky, but it's actually a fun romp once you understand how it works. It's very much a "pick one of 3 upgrades" and "big number" game, but it's a nice low-stakes game if you like punching things without too much fluff.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I love the Insectoid Core system, it might be one of my favourite game mechanics out of all roguelikes I've played. I do have 2 criticisms about this game though: - It takes way too long to unlock new weapons, the resource needed to unlock them seriously needs to either have lowered requirements or higher drops. - The talents are extremely lackluster, and it only takes like 2-3 runs to get to the point where you have a level in every single available talent.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Incredibly fun for the value; hopefully the developers continue adding updates. I played this game for way too long in one session and had a great time with the builds. Some of the weapons seem to have an edge with placement and unique modifiers. Definitely recommend this game and it's great replay ability.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The scaling of enemy HP is super unfun. It makes fight drag so much, it makes you fall asleep while fighting.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Starfire Eternal Cycle Review Starfire Eternal Cycle is a really solid little roguelike. It’s challenging in a fun way and the graphics are quite nice. What stood out the most for me is the socket system. You get different affixes with elements, and the more you stack the same element, the stronger it becomes. But the real fun comes from mixing different elements together to awaken completely new powers. It honestly changes the way you fight and gives you tons of freedom to experiment. The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Had potential but just turns into bullet hell fairly early on. Not my idea of a good time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →No... I don't recommend this game. But I'm also not going to give it a thumbs down. This isn't a beat'em up, despite how it may look. It does have that flair... but it is extraordinarily simple as far as controls, abilities, movement... the action game play is really just a facade. The entirety of this game plays out within the ability selections... pick 3's if you know that term from other popular roguelite games. If you create synergy, you will win. If you don't, you will fail. In…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun roguelike game where u can mix and match different cores (gems/skills) and upgrade them to get affixes that can change the way you fight in combat. Nice variety of weapons to change playstyles. Very fun when you are vibing to the combat but can be GRINDY So if you like grinding games and unlocking passives little by little with a nice looking main character , this is a game for you. 6 or 7 / 10 Fun 2d sidescroller roguelike for me
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very cool and fun brawler roguelike. Bit too grindy for unlocking new weapons though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Didn't enjoy it, very repetitive and not in a fun roguelike way like they claim, has some potential, but it's not for me
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really fun and nice sidescroller. - Surprisingly deep and varied builds allow everything from one woman army to army of shadow clones to clear levels. - Vastly different weapons with light and heavy attacks allow for tons of variety each attempt. - Two underlying systems (cores attributes and treasures) serve as power multipliers for even more variety in builds, damage numbers and faster clear times.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →AWESOME work for the studios first game. It's super quick to get into, and doesn't feel tedious the way I've found other roguelites can be. This is largely thanks to being more streamlined and forgiving than something like Hades is, and because the buffs roll in very quickly and you get heaps of flexibility. Visually, the game is gorgeous and the protagonist + her skins are sexy as heck. Most runs, I end up shredding through everything which gets super fun, yet despite that the enemies never…
