What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 266 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Overwhelmingly Positive (1,580 of 1,659 positive).
Players praise the deep sword crafting and surprisingly engaging story. [1][2][3] Some note the early access nature with limited content and repetitive mechanics. [4][5][6] The ability to export swords as STL files for 3D printing is a highlight. [7][8][9]

Ive had a lot of fun with this game, and im very excited to see what happens with it, but it NEEDS a way to save the swords you make. I hate that once I hand over a sword i can never see it again. Give us some kind of gallery to see your past creations. EDIT: In the Chapter 2 update, they added this feature, Story mode swords can now be saved to creative! NOW its perfect, thank you.

wanted this game to make swords got annoyed that they shoved a story mode into it then the story got really really good do not skip the dialog honestly these guys know what they are doing i look forward to future updates

Mixed review. First, the story is pretty great and rather engaging. It's a shame your "past life" choice stuff never actually comes up more than like, once. But the story is very involving and rather complex for some blacksmithing game. I really enjoyed the game for the story. It's a shame the early access means it's over in 4 hours. Very short for now which is dissapointing. I'd recommend waiting until the full …

This game is amazing, truly, I never wrote a review ever but this game deserves it. Saying that you're making swords is reductive as hell, I'm not joking when I say that this game has Baldur's Gate level of storytelling and immersiveness. The setting is jaw-dropping with lore that could be incredibly deep and expanded so much, just on what's in the early access or the demo one could build a Dungeons&Dragons campaign …

I've been part of several beta tests of this game, played the Demo and have bought the game the moment it hit Early Access. Gameplay wise the swordbuilding is excellent. The story follows a young swordsmith trying to make his way in a world torn asunder by a cataclysm. There isn't much there yet but first chapter offers a good 10 hours of story and is fully implemented into the game already and offers glimpses into …

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Getting home, I toyed a bit with Bladesong, an early access sword design game (with RPG elements) on steam and the 'creative' mode that lets you free-design swords is very neat: it has a lot of final detail so you can create complete fantasy swords, or recreate historical styles.

(And then stay again for the weapon crafting as you can decorate weapons to look badass too. But also make anything but a weapon.). Here are a few things I made in my first session playing: A Chakram. A Nike symbol A sword so wide my friends were classifying it as a "Tower Shield" or "Piece of Sheet Metal." A trowel A circular bladed pizza cutter. A sword named…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game definitely succeeds at letting you make cool swords, but I think it fails at being a good game. The crafting system is deep and creative, and the story is surprisingly engaging. What kills the fun for me is that the second you finish a sword it stops mattering at all. You never see the sword again, if you cut corners they are never detected, and the only one who cares about the sword's name or appearance is you. Let me compete with other players to see who can make the best looking…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played this game's demo, waited for a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ months for this game to release, and as an early access, it promises everything it presented in the demo, AND more. HOWEVER. I'm conflicted. And the score can be no higher than a 6/10. And here's why: 1-Better forging mechanics/Multi-layer syster. I want My blade to have a fancy "hollow ground" cross section, not just a simple concave diamond shape that for some reason takes away sharpeness (?). And a better flamberge. They were…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →played a bit , its basiclly just sword lego lol , theres zero mining or smelting , you slap parts on and shape them , which is cool but hardly what ide consider the "ultimate sword smithing game" or however they marketed it lol , its good but , not what I want from a smithing game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →1000 Hours in Bladesong... Disclaimer: I am a huge fan of this game. If you like being immersed in a wonderful story while experiencing the fantasy of sword smithing ... Try it! If you are a creative mind looking for expression ... Don't miss this one out! If you're a community person ... Join the most welcoming crowd ever. P.S. Dev team is incredibly dedicated. I have nothing negative to say about this game, I can only wonder what it may become going forward.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game consists of two elements: a text-based RPG part in which we get to know the world, and a sword-forging module. The RPG section is planned to have five chapters; in its current form it is not very extensive, but based on its present state, the story is rather simple - low fantasy aimed at a younger audience. However, the main focus of this production is supposed to be sword forging - and this is where the first discrepancy appears, because it is not a blacksmithing or sword-forging…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very promising and impressive game. I hope more people get to experience it, and I’m really looking forward to seeing it become even more polished! The swordsmithing gameplay and the story have both been incredibly appealing to me. The medieval setting has a unique charm of its own, and I honestly can’t wait to experience the full version of the game, haha. Here are some suggestions after 14 hours of playtime: Areas I hope can be improved: 1. Some parts of the Chinese localization include…

positive · AI labelView post →Fantastic smithing game. It's all I ever wanted. Loved the Playtest, the demo and now I absolutely love the Game. It's so satisfying. Cant wait to download the swords as STL files so I can 3D print them. The Story is great and the NPC are well written. And the score omg its so good.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Was playing with Bladesong that @bladesonggame.bsky.social was kind enough to invite me to the playtest of. Tried to make a selibatha, the serrated Aurum Elves standard blade! It's a simple blade so it wasn't hard to recreate in-game (baby steps!)

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's pretty much just a sword editor that you control by hammering (clicking) on the sword repeatedly. It's a really good sword editor, but the gameplay itself is very repetitive. Choices feel arbitrary, progression is slow and sometimes seemingly locked behind pure chance. The game isn't really challenging. You mostly just edit a sword until it meets all the requirements and then you move on to the next one with no risk of failure (and therefor no reward of success). Could be really good down…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →While its Early Access nature is very apparent, the core gameplay loop is solid. One cause for potential concern is the repetitive nature of early stages of crafting; getting the initial length/thickness correct is the same every time. Rather than the apprentice providing you with extra 'stamina', I would like to be able to instruct the apprentice to make 'blanks'. (In game terms, to save a few presets that can be used as a starting point, allowing the player to focus on the customization…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cementing itself as a new addictive hyperfixation within moments of me impulse buying it, Bladesong is scratching an itch I didn't know I needed scratching. It's a blacksmithing, sword-crafting simulator, and it's definitely worth a grab if that premise catches your attention. It can be a bit much to ask, sitting at a $25 CAD price point, but I think the effort put into this game makes it well worth it (bonus points if you got a 3D printer, as you can get STLs for your creations from Bladesong)…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's like Disneyland for sword nerds, and the story and worldbuilding are far more interesting than it has any right to. Its take on fantasy is far enough from the tropes of the genre that I often forget that it's even supposed to be fantasy. At times it reminds me of Disco Elysium, which is always a good thing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bought this game expecting a little free building app that I could use to fiddle around with models to make weapons for my DnD campaign, with maybe a little shopkeeping sim on the side to play when I have nothing else to do. I got the first point alright. But on the second one, I've Instead been served an engaging dark fantasy text adventure set in an extremely interesting dying world filled with interesting characters and intrigue, coupled with beautiful artwork! Can't wait to see what the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pros: ○ The sword-making visuals are really nice and satisfying to look at. ○ Having customers order specific blades gives you clear goals and makes each project feel meaningful. ○ Creative Mode lets you go wild and design over-the-top swords without worrying about running out of materials. ○ You can export your swords as STL files to 3D print them. A super cool bonus if you have a printer. Cons: ○ The game starts pretty slow, and doesn’t really encourage you make fancy blade mods until…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very enjoyable. I'm a blade smith in real life and find this game to be super fun and allows me to be creative without wasting tons of metal putting it into real practice. I plan to use this game as a great way for me to design and preplan my projects. The story mode is pretty good. Day 1 had a few minor bugs but they already have released patches for them. overall worth it and look forward to future updates
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bladesong is more of a weapon designer than a blacksmithing simulation. That being said, there is a wide variety of options and a ton of room for creativity.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had watched a lot of videos before picking this up, I had expectations of a good sword crafting game. Just something I could spend some time with, maybe make some of my dnd character blades in. I was not disappointed. The story caught me off guard. I was not expecting it to be this good. I found myself making some of the blades as fast as I could at certain points to get to the next story beat and it didn't even feel like skipping gameplay at all, but completely in line with what was going…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its good. game is fun and has an intereting take on blacksmithing wrapped in a dark medevil fantsy plot. The fact you can make swords and export them as STL files is mental and i will be using some to create custom dnd minis
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bladesong is a great and addicting game about taking on orders to smith blades of varying requirements. Landyn wants his blade to be long, fast, and sharp. Alys wants hers to use this guard, be two handed, and have impact. Everything else is decided by you. Spend time placing engravings over the hilt or handmaking a custom hand guard. I have yet to finish a sword I was unhappy with, because you have all the time and all the tools in order to make and remake it until you like the way it works.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So I have played this game for a long time now, though its public test phases. I must state for this review that I am not someone who can focus on a single game for a long time or put many hours into one, I just don't focus like that, however, every time Bladesong released a public test I could easily put 80 hours straight into it. which is more hours than I have in total for some games. This game is the perfect smithing simulator, it is intuitive and easy to control, and because of that it…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →come for the swords, stay for the text adventure -- I'm really enjoying this game so far, but since it's in early access I figure I'll offer my genuine feedback. I'd love to see this game get even better. There's not much incentive to make designs in story mode that strictly fit the mechanical requirements, it would be nice to have some in-game encouragement to think outside the box (but also, that's what creative mode is for). I would really love a little more information on what the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Definitely an enjoyable title, looking forward to seeing what gets added in as the game progresses in development (i'm fiddlin' with the early access). The story is actually really interesting, like, I'd probably enjoy raiding the devs' novels from home to see what inspired this. The setting is dour but hopeful, the characters are lively and the delivery of the lore alternates between drip-fed or getting slapped with it, depending on the subject. Nice. I didn't think I'd enjoy much…

neutral · AI labelView post →This game is special. I don't know how they took a game about smithing and wrapped it in an environment and story so compelling. In fact, I'd go as far as to say the story is so good the smithing sometimes falls by the wayside. Worth 20 bucks? Yeah, every penny.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is overall pretty repetitive, and it's not really a crafting simulator as you only really hammer swords and place on a hilt. You can make some cool sword designs, but that's pretty much it, you don't interact with any of the swords you craft. You craft swords in order to craft more swords, in order to craft more swords. That's the gameplay loop. From the little I played of the campaign, it felt awfully railroady with skill checks that seemingly always fail for main quest related…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →ive been wating for this game since october and i absolutly loved the demo. i just checked out the new stuff in the game and it looks sick. the story is also great, but if you hate reading a ton you might not like this part since it is alot. if you like swords, medieval stuff or just making things buy this game. buy it
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Can't say I've played anything like this, it's certainly unique - in an exceptional way. It's a simple gameplay loop but the writing here is surprisingly well done for a kind of indie game from a lesser known development studio. It stands up on its own against plenty of fantasy novels I've read in the past. It's a world I want to learn more about. I want to understand the Voices better, their motivations, their reasonings. Why did the sundering occur and just how badly did it corrupt the world…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I bought it to make cool swords, because swords are cool. Then there was a story. Like, a really, really GOOD story. And it keeps getting better, and branching, and twisting. I'm hooked. Better smithing AND story than KCD2.

If you're looking for a somewhat relaxed, story focused game with a rich story, a beautiful soundtrack, and believably crafted characters and lore that weave together to create a beautifully tragic and compelling setting, buy this game now. It's already more than worth the price in its current state. Now, as for my critiques: -There is no bonus for overachieving on a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mixed Review I like the idea of the game.... But. The only issue I have right now is that you're not incentivized in any way to make a unique blade. I assume they'll implement something eventually to reward you for extra time spent making unique blades but right now there's no reason to do any more than the barebones of what each commission requires. You may as well just spend the bare minimum materials and time to maximise profits over style. Making unique blades right now just drains…

neutral · AI labelView post →Newest ADHD hyperfocus obsession. I always liked blacksmithing minigames, sometimes even more than the game itself. This does something. It manages to breath life into a forge but also a strong narrative. My cat gently purrs as I hammer another sword. 10/10. I only have one improvement which is you can game the stats to make a very silly sword that technically fulfills a commission's requirement but it feels wrong. But sometimes necessary. Maybe it's a skill issue. You can make wonky swords…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TL:DR - Highly recommend for fans of the Witcher series, Fallen London, Sunless Sea and Sunless Skies. The story is top-notch while the sword-making part is solid, if in need of a bit more variety. I got this game on a whim to see about a fictional sword-making toybox with Creative mode. I started playing the Story Mode to try and see what the game taught me about how to make swords. I didn't expect anything much from the Story Mode, expecting it to be a lot of placeholders while they focused…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The writing is actually good? You have to have pretty low expectations for quality of writing when you play video games. It's just an afterthought for most developers. Even with most "story driven" games, they usually don't bother bringing on someone who actually writes for a living, and you just get some engineer's idea of what a compelling story is. So to just stumble across a game that's actually well written was unexpected. You can tell within the first few sentences that it's not the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am sure there is a great game in there somewhere, currently however it is mostly just fluff. The story is interesting enough but the meat of this game is the sword making, currently 95% of the items you can use in the sword making are pointless. You receive orders which contain a list of requirements, there is absolutely no reason to go above and beyond those requirements, by doing so you are using resources that you don't need to use and the payment you receive does not alter. You might as…

I'm stoked and looking forward to the next updates to see where the smith's journey will take me. The only thing that could make this game even better is voice-acting, other than that it's a 10/10.
