I purchased this game in 2026, 11 years after nightmares release and 19 years after the originals. This was exclusively out of nostalgia. 60 for this game is criminal. Even the 25$ key I paid for it is criminal. If it was 10$ right now, id recommend it. This game is both a hidden gem, and a pit of lost potential. It starts of so, so good. Bladestorm: Nightmare is a Japanese Warriors-interpretation of the 100 Year War between England and France, featuring a good score of actually existing historical characters. Being a Musou game, it is extremely grindy and only appeals to a niche target audience, but to that audience, it does deliver most superbly. Fun game based on interesting history. While it seems a bit like Dynasty warriors, you have to rely way more on your squad to survive the battles, so you're not a solo super powered commander in this game. At some point you can combine up to 4 squads to command a small army. Or split them up on the battlefield and switch between them. You can also pretty much take over any (non-defensive) allied squad you see on the …

So what to say about this unique game, other then that it is a great one, not for everyone though of course with its style as I can definitely see some people not enjoying that you strike with all your soldiers as a group which can be a bit annoying at times. Once you level up enough though the game can be quite easy, I still enjoy it myself but I can see that turning some people away from it as well, the way the …

Just noticed that Bladestorm: Nightmare is once again at a decent price - only for the next 35h though. Possibly my favourite 6/10 game of all time. The last of Koei's Kessen series, but mangling European history. Think Dynasty Warriors but you're controlling several regiments instead of one guy.

Bladestorm is on sale again! A rare event. One of my all-time favourite 6/10 games. An action strategy game that does for the Hundred Years War what Dynasty Warriors did for Chinese history: Completely mangle it. Heavily expanded over the original 360 version. www.humblebundle.com/store/blades...

Bladestorm: Nightmare is a re-release of Bladestorm: The Hundred Years War, which itself was a console game released in 2007 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. You play as a mercenary, a soldier for hire who is going to France to fight in the War between England and France for, like, I dunno, territorial claim or something to do with family trees, their nobles you don’t need to know why we’re killing one another, just how much you’re being paid. Bladestorm takes place in this odd…

Just putting this one slightly aside from the rest of my sales recommendations Bladestorm is a game of questionable quality. It's a so-so PC port of an expanded PS4 re-release of an obscure PS3 game. You need to mod Xbox/PS button prompts in I also find it WILDLY compelling. Pure gaming junk food.

In many ways, Bladestorm Nightmare feels like the last PS2 game, an action-strategy game filled with peak Koei cruft and an increasingly unhinged fantasy story in Nightmare mode. If you miss 6/10 genre experiments that are arguably more interesting when they don’t work, I can’t recommend it enough.

Taking a break from the list with a real sicko's pick - Bladestorm: Nightmare. One of Koei's wierdest games. A regiment-level action-strategy game (think Dynasty Warriors but you control 30 guys at once) set in a gloriously mangled version of the Hundred Years War. Usually overpriced. $15 for now.

Bladestorm is not really as much of a beat-em-up as it is a racing game. At first, the game makes you think that you'll have to carefully pick your units and spend your research points (which you use to level up) strategically to maintain a well-balanced army. The tutorial shows you that the different unit types have hard strengths and weaknesses, like that horses are weak to spearmen. There is a huge unit roster to choose from, and you can even switch between units on the fly in battle. This…

Speaking of weird decade+ old games that only go on sale rarely, Bladestorm: Nightmare is going cheap, and is a guilty pleasure favourite of mine. Arguably the final game in Koei's action-strategy Kessen series. A remarkably intricate but meatheaded Japanese interpretation of the Hundred Years War.

Bladestorm would be a very interesting and fun to play game if any aspect of it worked in harmony or if any part of it felt finished. The original mode of the game is the 100 Years War, this story has you arriving at a tavern frequented by soldiers and mercenaries as a newly arrived mercenary looking to build your reputation. As you play the game new regions are unlocked with each acting as one large map that can have different contracts on it to capture and hold different…

This game is awesome.... on console but holy cow the PC port is horrible. I have a 3080 Ti an I9, 64 gigs of ram and it's on a m.2 drive and even on low settings the FPS is so bad it's unplayable. Not sure if it's just the optimization or what but it's horrible. on High settings I get like 1 to 5 FPS medium is like 5 to 10 and low is like 10 to 15. I messed with the settings for a good 15 to 20 minutes trying to get it to work right cause I loved this game on console and wanted to play it…

This port to pc which I just discovered yesterday and bought seems to have been done pretty well. I had initial issues with the game only running at like 10 fps but figured out that it was caused by the game running on my integrated gpu rather then my laptops RTX 2060. A prime example of the Koei Tecmo Half-Arseness. Back in the days before Koei became the disgouger of mindless hack-and-slash titles they are now, the company was mainly known for their strategy games with heavy historical influences - Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Nobunaga's Amibition, etc. It was this focus on historical authenticity that helped Koei stand out in the market, and it is one of the few merits the company retained to this day, albeit less and less apparent as their recent…

A wonderful, simple game where you lead units against each other. It seems like a first-person fighter, but it's not: you lead squads, and fight with your squad, not alone. And it illustrates the little-known historical fact that the Hundred Years' War was mostly fought to finance the nobles' hair product imports.

There's really no other game like Bladestorm. It experiments a lot with the old Kessen formula, and Koei haven't done anything like it in over a decade since. It's a remarkably deep action-strategy-RPG hybrid, more sandboxy than structured. Not very hard, but with room to challenge yourself.

Bladestorm: Nightmare was a really cool game back in the day. It was released before Koei started overpricing their subpar ports and kept the "weeby" elements on the down-low, given its setting during the Hundred Years' War between England and France. However, being a Koei game, don’t expect anything too historically accurate. It still sneaks in a slight fantasy/anime vibe where it can. The game is similar to the old Warriors games, Kingdom under fire or Ninety-Nine Nights from the Xbox 360…

I really enjoyed this but it won't be for everyone. I was entertained by the rather random Japanese interpretation of the Hundred Years War, and the basic gameplay loop is good fun - although you seem to rapidly become significantly more powerful than most enemies you face. It was good mindless fun during a period when I was very sleep deprived and not up to much else. Also, just to note, £50 for a game this old is a joke - I picked it up on sale. I wouldn't recommend it at full price.

This is a great game. There are a few bugs but nothing that is game-breaking. The game is replayable due to the fact that there are 2 separate campaigns: The Hundred Years War campaign and the Nightmare Campaign. When you finish one campaign your character, inventory and squads can be transferred over into the other campaign.

After looking up how to switch the game to English and figuring out the controls, game remains true to the original! Loved every second of it played for nearly six hours straight. Before I bought it there was a lot of reviews complaining about the game crashing or not working or frame drop, by no means would I call my laptop a gaming computer but I have yet to experience any of this! (Will edit review if user experience changes)
