What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 214 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (6,541 of 8,273 positive).
Players praise the game's atmosphere and sound design for recreating the movie's found-footage style. [1][2][3]

Not a great game to be honest. I think Bloober has come a long way, in a lot of ways, this early game of theirs is evidence of that. Gameplay: The gameplay in this game ranges from annoying to boring. You're wandering around the woods, with goofy looking monsters running up to you and going "BOO". If you want the "good" ending, then you'll need to sneak around these annoying ass monsters, if you defend yourself by …

The game’s strongest recreation of the movie is undoubtedly its atmosphere. With all the dark forest, flashlight, old-school camcorder, and excellent environmental sound design, it did a great job of recreating the found-footage style of the movie. Another nice design choice is Bullet, your dog. Most of the game takes place in the forest, which is extremely easy to get lost in, but the game actually does a pretty …

I literally finished this entire game in one single sitting because the atmosphere and the story are so gripping that I just couldn't put it down. :D It completely sucks you into the woods and plays mind games with you from start to finish. Also, can we talk about Bullet? I absolutely love him <3 He is the best boy and literally your lifeline throughout the whole nightmare. The multiple endings give the game tons of …

Let me start off by saying i'm only recommending this game because of a few features. Those being the dog (bullet) the visuals and the sound design. Now that's out of the way let me be brutally honest and say this game was incredibly dull. The enemies, the puzzles, the endings (It has multiple) It just felt like it dragged on.. and on.. and on.. and not in a good way. And in the end it all led up to nothing which …

Blair Witch is basically a hiking simulator where the forest hates you and your dog really does love disappearing majority of the game. The atmosphere is great, the jump scares got me more than I’d like to admit, and I spent half the game apologizing to Bullet for putting him through all this. If you enjoy creepy woods, psychological weirdness, and yelling “HELLO??” at trees, this is absolutely worth the trip. Just …

Critics, per Wikipedia
Blair Witch received "mixed or average" reviews, according to review aggregator platform Metacritic. Alex Spencer of PC Gamer called Blair Witch "an interesting horror game that never manages to escape the shadow of its ‘90s inspiration" but criticised it for not developing some of the mechanics further. Writing for GameSpot, Alessandro Barbosa praised the game's atmosphere and sound design but was critical saying that Blair Witch does not have a complex tale, in addition calling the story twists as predictable. Jeff Cork of Game Informer echoed similar pros, but criticised the enemy encounters and its inconsistency. Destructoid's Patrick Hancock commented that "Blair Witch sufficiently…

They got NO residuals.

I watch a lot of movies, I don’t necessarily have a yearly goal however I like keeping a record, so here is what I watched with some thoughts [Link to Part 1 (2025 movies)](https://lemmy.world/post/41059248) - My rating scale is .5-5, and my review philosophy is “how well does the movie succeed at what it is trying to do?” - Thus Pacific Rim would be rated highly, whereas Transformers…

neutral · AI labelView post →The Medium is the one that people bring up and while that's not ultimately what the game is trying to say it does such a poor job at trying to make you think otherwise and that Blair Witch game they made also does the same trick of "if you kill yourself u stop having PTSD"
neutral · AI labelView post →Oh yeah, it makes no sense. I could see The Backrooms making total sense in Fortnite, but Obsession...like, it would be like if in the 90s, someone was like "Yeah, the girl from Blair Witch Project ABSOLUTELY should guest star in the next Twisted Metal game."

neutral · AI labelView post →I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate this game. It’s not scary. it’s just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ infuriating. The horror isn’t in the forest; it’s in the bugs the devs never bothered to fix. There are key items that just don’t spawn because you need to interact with something that you literally cannot interact with. People were already complaining about this in 2019 when it launched. It’s 2025. Still broken. Still ignored. And guess what? The devs even said you don’t need it to progress. Then why the ♥♥♥♥ put it there? Why…

neutral · AI labelView post →If you like walking sims (especially in circles) lots of filler, just a hint of a witch for labelling purposes, dark screens, etc.....then you'll love this game. As for me...I couldn't finish it, I'd wasted enough time. Oh, best thing...the dog :) It has four possible outcomes btw. I don't know how you get them, and don't care. This is my last game review. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Don't let the reviews fool you. If you enjoy psychological and narrative-based/"walking simulator" horror games, Blair Witch is without a doubt one of the best early Bloober Team games. While it may not be the best adaptation of its source material's tone, it absolutely succeeds at putting you in the protagonist's head, investing you in what could have happened to him, and why the Witch is so desperate to have him. It's not a perfect game - there are some moments of frustration and somewhat…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't understand some of the criticism the game gets, it adapts the source material about as well as you could. Great horror walking sim and would recommend for some spooky times.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The Blair Witch was a surprise. I did not the expect the game to be that good. It has a decently good story that changes per playthrough and some good scares. Overall its short and worth the price on sale.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Blair Witch I am what you become! Last set of that wonderful game. For those who are playing it, pay attention to the inventory wheel. Just saying. Oh, and open the shots on a PC or full screen on your phone. Darkness ahead. #VirtualPhotography #BlairWitch

positive · AI labelView post →As of writing this post, I've finished Silent Hill 2 remake. The only Bloober Team game I tried was Blair Witch and I never finished it. And I can say without a doubt that they absolutely delivered everything they had with this game. Silent Hill 2 (2024) is fucking incredible.
neutral · AI labelView post →Phobetor’s Children as a horror survival game would really work. Maybe a modern-day version, something like the various Blair Witch games released over the years, although I like the idea of playing as a Roman legionary or a gladiator with limited weapons would be cool. #HorrorWritersChat
neutral · AI labelView post →I'm so glad that I got this on sale, and didn't go crazy upon it's release to go and pay full price. This game could have had one or two things removed and just been it's own thing, since there was nearly nothing relating to the franchise other than stickmen, the woods themselves, and what I think was supposed to be Rustin Parr's house at the end. Ultimately, Blair Witch is a pretty boring generic walking sim game with a few good jump scares, but not enough going for it. There's no way the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to love this one, but I can't even bring myself to continue it. Why am I wandering around aimlessly in a PITCH BLACK forest? Why does it tell you to break the totems, but doing so locks out the good ending. I played over 6 hours of that game walking in circles to try and find every object, and even using a guide was useless. There are so many other horror games worth your time, so I suggest playing those instead.

neutral · AI labelView post →I can't say it was terrible but definitely won't recommend. Waay too overlong, especially the last house part. Disappearing paths with scripted space-shifting over and over and over again is not amusing or scaring - it just bores and makes you think that you have somehow lost in a very linear episode. I was one unskippable Jess's message from quitting the game

The game has great graphics smooth movement a nice atmosphere a nice story, and an interesting plot twist that will definitely surprise you. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have mixed opinions about this game, particularly because of its confusing gameplay despite having an interesting story. On one hand, I found the plot engaging, especially because of its plot twist and the fact that the game features multiple endings depending on the choices and actions you make throughout the game. When I select the camcorder, I can only see something on a quarter of my screen. The same goes for the camcorder’s display. I don’t see the full videos, just a quarter of them. This makes it impossible to spot the clues. At the part with the fallen tree—where you have to rewind to clear the path—I spent 15 minutes trying everything I could think of. I even…

I tried going into this game with an open mind, knowing Bloober Team has a history of missing the mark when it comes to subtlety and thematic cohesion. The game starts off well enough, setting up a mystery surrounding a missing child while introducing our protagonist and his beloved canine companion, Bullet. The early chapters set the stage for a…
