What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 170 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (1,919 of 2,196 positive).
Players praise the game's story and emotional depth, calling it one of the best in the series. [1][2][3] Many note the game shows its age with dated graphics and janky mechanics. [1][4][5] Some reviewers find the tactical squad-based gameplay rewarding despite frustrations. [6][7][8]

Gave up on the game around the 80% mark. It all got too tiresome and frustrating. I really wanted to give this title its due for what it's attempting. I like a variety of shooters and tactical games. But the way it's implemented here is too janky to tolerate after an extended period. I understand that my accuracy isn't 'real' and is entirely dependent on flanking tactics. But there are SO many times when it looks …

Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 feels like a fossil from the PlayStation 2 era. It’s old, and yeah, it hasn’t aged well in a lot of ways, but it’s still a game worth recognizing. In fact, Road to Hill 30 is probably the best in the series when it comes to story. Unlike Call of Duty or Medal of Honor, Brothers in Arms always felt more focused on the soldiers themselves. It’s not about glorifying war or just …

TLDR: Revolutionary for its time, Road to Hill 30 has aged gracefully in its story, but shows its age in shooting mechanics. Pros: - In an oversaturated genre, Road to Hill 30 sets itself apart through an intense and emotional storyline with some of the best voice acting in gaming history. You'll genuinely care about Baker and his squad. - Gritty combat feels frighteningly realistic, despite its age. Ragdoll …

It's a really old tactical fps. The game is slower paced and you cannot take out enemies by yourself. Your gun is not accurate and there is heavy weapon sway. You must utilize your squad effectively. The game can be difficult especially on "authentic" difficulty setting. Really love how true to life the map layout is. There's a lot of behind the scenes content in the extras section that show real maps and documents …

Gameplay wise it's dated and jarring but the story really holds its own still. Along with having believable characters you interact with creates an emotional and intense experience.

My trench pilgrims and ally’s Prussians vs two Court warbands: Envy and Gluttony. We all held our own home objectives and fought a bloodbath over uzi Jesus in the center of the map. #TrenchCrusade

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Went crazy and added 1 + game to the list of now playing. It goes: Soul Reaver, Brothers in Arms 1, Lego City Undercover, and Pokémon Silver. A lot, and not healthy, but that's one solution I found for the overthinking. Working hard at night, and still figuring out a thing a guy😅. Be safe, guys.
neutral · AI labelView post →The amount of satisfaction I get ordering a squad around in this old clunker series far exceeds whatever modern day Infinity Ward can do with the GDP of a small country or the streamerbait indie shooter of the week. Play this and Earned in Blood with Rendroc's WarZone mod for best experience. Where is Brothers in Arms 4? Where are the tactical single player shooters? Why does it hurt to stare at the sun?
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I finally decided to dive into the Brothers in Arms trilogy - back when Ubisoft still dared to experiment and tried to compete with heavyweights like Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, and Battlefield. As a kid, I played the second installment, Earned in Blood, on the PS2. But somehow, I completely missed both the first and third entries. So going back to the roots felt like discovering something new. Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 is a first-person tactical shooter based on real events of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The hunt for PS1 games is largely over, so other consoles get the #PhysicalMedia collection expanded. I can now see where the SSX series ended up after 6th gen and try out my first Brothers In Arms game. But first thing after I finish Okami, I can finally experience Enslaved: Journey to the West.
neutral · AI labelView post →I want to start with a warning: since I’ve played the Brothers in Arms series before, nostalgia will definitely play a role here. This game is old, and it has some bugs and glitches, but even so, it runs well enough. The gameplay is okay, the story is good, and squad management is a defining element of the series. If you can look past the outdated graphics and minor bugs, then give this game a try.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great WW2 shooter with good story & emotional menu music
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bought this because it was on sale. Turned out to be one of the best WW2 FPS games I've ever played
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of the best WW2 games I have ever played and what a hidden gem of a game. The mechanics and level design in this game is better than some modern day WW2 shooters. The atmosphere this game provides the player is fantastic. Explosions right next you leaving a ringing in your ear and bullets grazing you really shines well on immersing the player. Cant wait to dive into the sequels. 9/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I rate Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 1/5. A good idea done very badly. This game should have been called, ‘Bland, Badly-Trained Caricatures with Guns: Erroneous Road to A Grossly Inaccurate Depiction of What Happened at Hill 30.’ If we had actually fought World War 2 in the way this game shows us fighting, we would have lost. Over 200 historical inaccuracies have been found in this game, many of them major, such as the main character’s unit participating in battles they were never…

neutral · AI labelView post →Good concept but very flawed execution. Out of all its many flaws, the one that stands out most is the AI: Your ability to aim and go "Full Rambo" is limited to encourage the "fire and manoeuvre" aspect of the game, and that means relying on your AI teammates to make sound strategic decisions. Spoilers: they will never. The need to be constantly told what to do and even then their effectiveness is severely limited to providing suppressing fire. Which again they may fail because they "cannot see…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Taught me noble odium for line of sight, Henschel vehicular products, console-oriented shooter controls, copycat Hollywood scriptwriters and personally Randall Steward Pitchford II - before half a year later a tsunami named Call of Duty 2 washed it all away. Generally they were trying to do something different, aiming for a more immersive…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For anyone who missed good'ol WW2 FPS games, well this is it. Runs on Windows 11 fine, just open v-sync because in one mission AI gets stuck because of high frame rate. You do flanking and stuff, you command two fireteams generally and give them orders, flank and maneuver. Graphics are old, shooting feels janky. But it is a good dame with a lot of authenticity. I give 7/10.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood is a first person shooter. Gearbox did a great job with this game. Gameplay is excellent and the graphics are decent. As the story unfolds, you must choose between the success of your mission and the lives of your men - your brothers in arms. The Brothers in Arms trilogy are all World War II action shooters. Played this on my Dell Precision 3480 with Arc Xe graphics and RTX A500 discrete graphics. Game is very playable. The easy system requirements suggest Arc…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I worked factory jobs in the summers in high school, and I used to play a game where I'd go through an album in my head beginning to end before looking at the clock to alleviate boredom. Brothers in Arms was my go-to.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Basic squad based FPS set in the WWII era that offers a decent story. AI forces the player to use tactics and strategy versus just running and gunning.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There’s not much I can add that hasn’t already been said in other reviews. Yes, it’s dated – the gunplay, animations, grenades, etc. But if you have any interest in WWII squad-based tactics (and maybe enjoyed the Band of Brothers TV series), this game is absolutely for you. You can feel it was made by a team that pushed the limits of the technology of their time, crafting clever and engaging mechanics to capture the essence of the subject. I’m far from finishing the game, but the storytelling…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is really good at annoying me with it's generic solider dialogue. It made two minutes feel like twenty minutes and when you're finally given a gun you kill two knatzies before the game forces you to listen to more. There's probably some cool semi tactical stuff that happens later on but I cant be bothered to delve any further.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Is a game that leaves mixed feelings. From a graphical standpoint it obviously does not impress today, but even back in 2005 it was not particularly strong, already falling below the level of the first Call of Duty titles on PS2 and PC. What truly sets it apart, however, is its core idea, the experience of leading a squad. You might expect a classic run and gun shooter, but the game instead tries to push you to think. You are encouraged to study the situation, plan the right move, reposition…

More than a decade later, I finally experience the series proper, starting with Road to Hill 30. I got to say, this game was a breath of fresh air than the standard WW2 FPS titles from COD and MOH. Like many had point out, it's a squad based tactical FPS than requires using some planning to progress rather than just going ham using brute force. As…

Plays good on modern hardware(with occasional bugs, like your soldier getting stuck). Story is fine and it's only decent thing in the game. Just watch playthrough on YouTube. You know, I always try out this "hidden gems" and "underrated" games and none of them even come close to being just good. It's like people want to be different for sake of…

Otherwise last time I was in one was college, 2013, for my friend to redeem some Pokémon thing for her 3DS. Last time I bought something was 2010?, high school. It was the "Brothers in Arms" 3 game collection on disks.
neutral · AI labelView post →You are supposed to be fit soldier in a new unit type of USArmy, but it feels like you are rather a drunkard in a penal unit. Atmosphere, immersion, any feeling, realism, or authenticity? Absent. The only good things in the game are cinematics about the story, that's it. Shooting mechanics, I doubt you can find anything worse than what is here, but at the same I get it, it is a game about leading others, so they made shooting as bad as they could, because if you could shoot everyone…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →For a game which was released in 2005 It looks so nice I just wanted to go to Normandy to experience it myself but I'm sure Normandy these days doesn't look like this anymore or even It's different from It's game counterpart. But enough talking about the setting that the game takes in. The gameplay is really something to get used to. While even using ADS It's difficult to hit your targets from far and sometimes even in close range. Same goes with your Squads, If the enemy is behind the cover…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The story was fine, but the gameplay can take a while to get used to. Even while using ADS, it is difficult to hit your target sometimes even at close range. This game requires you to effectively use your team in order to take down enemies. For me spamming down and wasting hundreds of bullets just to suppress the enemy slows down the pace of the game for me. Also, since this is an older game, I experienced some screen resolution issues but there are some workarounds. Overall, it is a decent…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There used to be a time period back in the early 2000s when all we got month after month was WW2 bangers. This one particularly imho is one of the best from that era, when Gearbox made real quality games instead of looter shooter slop.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not only this game but the entire series of brothers in arms holds a special place in my heart. i cannot believe there has-not been at least a remake, or a new entry in the series... we need to revive the brothers in arms series asap!!! one of the most authentic world war 2 games ever made.
