Builder Simulator
Developer Live Motion Games, Frozen Way
Builder Simulator is the perfect game for those who want to build a house, from the ground up, one brick at a time. On easy, the game will guide and teach you by showing you full instruction, but on hard you will get no help - instead rely on your builder skills and make everything yourself. What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 182 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (1,623 of 2,271 positive).
Players find the tutorial excellent but the game's restrictions and lack of content frustrating. [1][2][3] The robot character Bill Derr is widely disliked for being annoying and condescending. [4][5][6] Many reviewers report bugs, lost saves, and a sense that the game is unfinished. [7][8][9]

this game is really cool my one problem with it is that damn clanker. I HATE HIM SO MUCH. he actually has a purpose during the tutorial but after that he is just obnoxious. he shows up while im working, starts mansplaining and speaking to me like a baby. and then after that, after i work my ass off for hours, he has the nerve to say some ♥♥♥♥ like "we did it partner!" WHOS WE?? you sat on your fat metal ass for …

Builder Simulator scratches a certain itch if you're into relaxed, methodical construction games — the tutorial is genuinely one of the best I've played, walking you through everything from laying foundations to tiling roofs, and the sandbox mode lets you design and build whatever you want without any financial pressure. That said, calling this a 'simulator' is generous: there's no plumbing, no electrical work, no …

I want to like this game, and I do like it, the issue is, while its a good game, its not whats on the tin. There is no construction in this. Its basically a very elaborate lego set. The "Contracts" mode, which I expected to be a campaign, was painfully dull, basically repeating the tutorial for the first few missions (Which was actually brilliant. I loved the tutorial, one of the best Ive ever seen!), Most of it is …

The game has too many restrictions. Can't enjoy sandbox. The game has a lot of bugs. The game has no content besides building, which itself is very poor in terms of variation. It's so boring! There's no continuation. You finish a PORTION of a job, you make a mystery amount of money, and there's no idea what happens with the rest of it. It's so unsatisfying to go in, put a roof on a building, and then walk away with …

This game is strangely enjoyable. The tutorial is very well thought out and walks you through the game perfectly. When you're done, you could build anything. Except a "real" house! You cannot create hallways narrower than 2 meters (6.5 feet) wide! Even by American standards that is monstrous. Doors cannot be placed in the corner of a room. Stairs cannot be placed within 1.5 meters of a object, incredibly …

60 of 197 · most liked firstFrom the very beginning, I was excited to buy this game. I expected to be able to build my dream house and furnish it exactly how I wanted. In practice, however, it was completely different — instead of creative freedom, I ran into constant restrictions. I started by practicing in an apartment: I wanted to recreate its layout and experiment with furniture placement. But the problems began right at the blueprint stage. I spent several hours trying to understand a system that, in essence,…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It HAD promise, but instead of actually completing the game, they started making DLC's. We were promised more quests/missions, and I know there was a lot of player requests for improvements, but it seems like they have been totally ignored (or they decided to make money from them, by adding htem as DLC's).

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Got this game a LONG time ago. I enjoyed it even though it definitely needed work. Here I come back to it and it still says coming soon and no more was added to the story. If that wasn't enough, my progress is gone somehow. I wouldn't recommend this game unless they finally put real work into it and fix the issues, fix the performance, and add more story content. It's sad because this was one game I really thought would become a great game. Oh well. Screwed over again and nobody has to be held…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →you can only build houses that are square, no room for any creative shapes or designs. there aren't any unlockables, so there's no point in playing contracts. because the money doesn't seem to matter. there's now ay to even see how much you made. all furniture, window, door and so on options are very limited. it honestly feels like the game is unfinished. and on the planner it would be nice to be able to see a square meter or square foot measurement of the rooms you are designing. really wasn't…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Builder Simulator commits to its premise with an earnestness that is almost admirable: you will build a house, brick by brick, from foundation to roof, with no narrative scaffolding to hold your interest up and no campaign to give the whole enterprise a sense of purpose beyond the finished building sitting there, done, staring back at you. For a certain kind of player, that pure sandbox loop is enough. For everyone else, the novelty wears off around the time you realize you have been staring at…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was using an XBox Controller. I went into the tutorials. The first thing it told me was to press RT to dig. I did so; it acted like it would dig, but there was no visible result. I did that several times, then tried holding the RT. The result was nothing at all; no change. I may try again later, but I already own a ton of half-baked games that never seem to work correctly.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Update wiped my saves, hours of work gone
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It was not what i expected. The game has many limits, if you think you will be able to build ANY building you want, however you like, then you're wrong, like i was. you can't make your own garden and you can't have a flat roof.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i really wanted to like this game. it's a great idea, but poor execution. when actually building, it's extremely click heavy - even after i remapped my controls. it was very rough on my wrists and hands and tedious or frustrating while building. when it comes to decorating, the options are limited, but i wasn't expecting much when it's an afterthought. as far as planning - the part i was most excited about - it was also frustrating and limited. the smallest of the 3 plot options is basically…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Camera and movement is clanky, the tutorial robot is annoying as hell, the build format and materials used are strict, the UI is not friendly. This was the first simulator that I wanted to quit and uninstall more and more by the minutes passing by inside of.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's a stage in it that kinda makes light of domestic violence and abuse? Others might not find it as awful but I do, especially since this is supposed to be a relaxing cozy game
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Frustrating. Interesting game, but too many issues with not being able to progress despite having completed a task, the game thinks I haven't and won't let me proceed. Tried to look up advice in Discussions, only to find that I'm currently having the same problem with the same task on the same contract as people in April 2023. TWO YEARS LATER. Still not fixed.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Better go with House Flipper, as Builder Simulator is not doing so well with it's own gameplay mechanics... P.S. I still appreciate the mascot's jokes inside the game, yet it is not enough to outweigh it into a positive review.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →To be honest this game was pretty good and fun but after the latest update the save file was deleted so lost all my progress. totally sucks

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Tentative review for now, may or may not change. Game itself if pretty good, minus the Bill Derr character. He's absolutely awful and I wish he wasn't in the game. It's like it's trying so hard to be Claptrap but they only got the annoying babbling part and none of the likeability. Even when I finish a step of the tutorial I have to wait for him to shut up before he'll give the next task. Seriously needs a skip button for his babbling dialog. It's like i'm being punished for learning how to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thank the universe I bought this on a deep discount. The game sucks, it's so restrictive and so barebones. You can't do anything outside of predefined blueprints. And also, someone mentioned that money doesn't make any sense in the game and they're right. You start each mission with more than enough money (like 10 times more) for everything you need in the mission (not to mention that some things don't actually cost anything, like paining for example, which makes no sense), and then the money…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Career mode? Doesn’t exist. You start a job with money, you finish and it vanishes. Budgets are pointless. In the end, you’re not simulating construction; you’re doing unpaid volunteer work for a lazy engine.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very great and fun game to play takes some getting use to with controls and stuff but once that is sorted its amazing fun. Just hope they bring more DLC out.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like the building blueprints part, but it's still fairly limited when it comes to what's available. Only 1 staircase option, boxy pools only, no trims, no fencing, you can't label rooms, there's just too many things that are wrong. The interior design mode is bad. I need to install my own doors manually when I should just be there to design, not build—but the sliding doors and windows come pre-installed, you just right click to choose colors/style. The stairs, you have to destroy and replace…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Added the DLC. Now the upstairs window do not allow the addition of a sill for any of the windows. I cannot remove the windows or manipulate them in any way. I am stuck at 76% completion for this part of the construction any cannot go forward. Prior to the DLC, in a previous build in which I apparently missed installing or plaster a location I was forced to begin the project again because I cannot undo anything. I doubt I will begin this project a third time so the game is essentially dead to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not a bad game but should be considered as an Early Access game. So many bugs, no real choices when it comes to styling, no garages or large gates. Maybe once they have fixed this game will it be worth playing right now it's just a frustration!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game has a major bug at contract number 13, built the whole house and when It comes to plastering the outside. It cannot be done. This issue needs fixing ASAP. I started the contract again but It didn't help. I have reported the bug 3 times now, no response. Maybe time for a refund. No point having an unplayable game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →great game. the only issue is that there should be a way to check what is missing in case of big surfaces, because reaching 99% completion, and then being lost for minutes not knowing what is missing is not a great experience
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wish we could give a star rating to games too. Out of five stars, i'd say 3. Yes, its a good and fun game and not bad for a builder simulator. But there are a few things that bug me i guess. maybe i'm alone or maybe there are others. The robot "coworker" is out of place for this present day game. Why a robot? why not just a foreman person, maybe one that we can choose? and its voice is annoying. I looked in settings for an off button but only found a voice slider. The other thing, the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When selecting continue, it goes back to mid point of previous contract. Having to back out to menu and go back to contracts and select the next is dumb and counter intuitive. Gave this game a few months to update and sort out problems but game play is no good still.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really not much choices you can do while building. Especially to decors and make it not boring.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very buggy (lots of missing textures). QoL seems nonexistent.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just bought a house in real life, so of course I was gonna try to build it here and decorate it etc. Needles to say that this game is nor only restrictive, it gets measurments wrong. I followed the schematics to the letter, and some rooms was way too small, others I had to make bigger just to fit in a door. After actually building it, I forgot to put in 6 doors (I know, my fault) but in decoration mode you cant even go back and put those doors in. Thank the higher powers for the "skip this…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like the concept of the game I hope it becomes real famous. But honestly the amount of bugs especially for a PAID GAME is off putting and disappointing. Like you would be working for an hour then you would be hit with a bug that takes your progress to zero - where the only fix is to restart the mission. THANK GOD I GOT IT ON A DEEP DISCOUNT IT DOES NOT DESERVE 20$
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A bare bones game that had great potential but it has been abandoned. I much prefer House Flipper and Power Wash Simulator to this.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very frustrating to try and progress through levels especially when it's telling you that you're at 99% progress but doesn't give any indication of what you're missing. Also focuses too heavily on the tedious aspects of the building process. I wish the game was more similar to House Flipper where you got much faster at different tasks or you could choose to not have to do them as slowly after the thousandth time of doing it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would've recommended this if there wasn't silence from the developers. Bought the dlc and it's got more bugs than a hospital. Stuck on the first house in the dlc at 50% put the fence in, for some reason it's not letting me. Obviously not been tested properly before release so I'll probably go down the refund route.

neutral · AI labelView post →I got this game in a bundle for cheap, but I wouldn't recommend it full price. The controls aren't really intuitive, I forget them almost every time I play. There are so many tools that it's overwhelming, and the "tips" don't really help with that. They just tell you the general objective and not how to get there. I wouldn't mind a lot of different tools if they were separated some how. Like all the tools exclusive to inside a building don't show up unless you're inside. The idea is there, but…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pro: Fine gameplay Cons: Crashes SOOOOO much!!! Achievements are way too grindy for people who arent hardcore achievement hunters imo. I finished all contracts within about 4 or 5 hours but now have 12 hours logged going for the 100%
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have tried multiple times with months in between, but I cannot get past the starter missions. Always due to bugs. For example: Building a roof and being 99% done and no way to finish. Or preparing to install a wall in a room, but then the foundation is below floor level and there is no way to build it and the tutorial bugs out and the explanation is useless. I have given up on this game now and tagged it "broken".
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very easy to understand and get a feel for, although the bot that shows you the ropes is so annoying... LOL Totally worth the buy! positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is bugged. On contract no. 11, you just can't get through the plastering point in the house. I liekd this game, but this hasn't been fixed, and it's not the only contract I've had problems with. If I had the chance I would refund the whole game and never buy it. Thank you for wasting my time.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A "building simulator" that is somehow more limited than some survival crafting games that have a building mechanic. I got this in a bundle. I'm also currently building a house in the U.S. (2 stories, rectangular design, and simple) so I thought it would be fun to "recreate it" in some of the games I play... so I designed it in this game's included Planner and immediately noticed some major limitations compared to any other game I've tried this with (made more apparent in the actual build…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really love this game before the DLC. Once it was installed the game went downhill. It's glitchy. There's supposed to be a girl robot, she's not there. There's supposed to be new tools, another lie. Raise foundation, sure yet the ground floor is still on the ground and you cannot put in door thresholds, window sills, and there's no building wooden buildings with a combo of brick for a garage, that is a no-no. Like I said the game has went completely downhill since the DLC. I once loved…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →first off let me just say this game is fantastic. the level of depth in the build mechanics and the quality of life features like the plan checker and randomizer really help with smooth gameplay. i was incredibly impressed with the quality of this game, especially given the price. i bought it on discount for 4 dollars, but even at the full price of $20, i would absolutely say this game is worth it. at the time of writing this, i have played for roughly over an hour. i completed all tutorials…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The tutorial contract is terrible and doesn't really teach anything, it took me 10 minutes just to figure out how to pull out the shovel, and the robot assistant guy is annoying as hell and the game would be better without him. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I get what it is going for, but I just can't really enjoy it. Building anything is a repetitive experience that takes forever for anything to be made, especially laying bricks. Not really worth it imo.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"It's chill!" as the kids nowadays say. The only problem I've had with it is saving/continuing the game is weirdly implemented and you've got to beware of going back and redoing things you've already done. Otherwise, it's an A+!

Builder Simulator is what happens when you buy a construction sim and end up in a “guess what the robot wants from you”…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's probably me, but the game made me literally feel sick and nauseous. Also the game would need bit of performance tuning. My computer is not top notch, but far from being slow and I experienced significant stuttering on high details with fps limit of 120. When pushing wheelbarrow I could see how it is not keeping up with the character movement and its position is reset about 15-30 times a second.
