Players widely compare BUTCHER to a 2D version of DOOM, praising its fast, brutal action. [1][2][3][4] Many note the game is very challenging, with some finding it frustrating but fair. [2][5][6][7] Several reviewers mention the game is short, typically completed in about 1.5 hours. [2][8][6][9]

Unfun, blurry mess, with annoying sounds. "Abuse" is how it's done, and that game is 30 years old.

DOOM-style brutality in a fast, vicious 2D run-and-gun shooter.

BUTCHER is a fast spaced 2D side scrolling shooter which feels like DOOM but in 2D. Let me tell you, this game is NOT easy, normal mode is hard mode but luckily they have a DLC to play the game in easy mode if you just want a casual playthrough (which I wanted). The game is not super long, and can be played through in about 1.5 hours on easy mode, otherwise you will be in for a lot of trial and error (similar to …

This game is a banger if you're into ridiculous amounts of gore, bad*ss weapons, and a heavy as s*t atmosphere, the in game character sprites aren't gonna win any beauty contests but the concept art is absolute fire, the environments and the batsh*it crazy gameplay make up for it This game is hard, but it doesn't pull that cheap bulls*it difficulty that pi**es you off, If you're gonna play it, use a controller …

Pretty neat and short game. Plays like Doom but 2D. OK for 5 dollars, but 10 is a bit high. Replay value only high if you want to challenge yourself more and more. 10/10 on sale only 8/10 without sale

Critics, per Wikipedia
Butcher received mixed reviews on Metacritic. Hardcore Gamer recommended the game to people who enjoy violent and challenging retro games but said it may not appeal to people outside of that niche. Commenting on the game's violence, GameSpot said that "beneath that gruff exterior is a thoughtfully crafted game". Digitally Downloaded said the game comes close to its goal of channeling Doom in a 2D game but is "let down by its idea of scale". Push Square wrote, "It's brief, chaotic, and hard as nails, but this is a glorious throwback that every fan of 90s shooters should pick up." Nintendo Life said the gameplay is repetitive but recommended it to players who enjoy challenging games.

It is so much like Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay with even more non-combat gameplay. I will be wrapping my PC video today or tomorrow which is also a positive story. Important info 8-10 GB cards.

neutral · AI labelView post →I got the Indiana Jones game and it's a Butcher Bay. It's so good. It's an evolution of Butcher Bay's stealth-brawler design with Hitman disguises and an aesthetic that is impressively loyal to the Indy films, from the lighting and film grain effects to the fonts and sound design. Feels authentic.
positive · AI labelView post →Pitch Black laid the groundwork for Starbreeze Studios to invent Vin Diesel for the 2004 video game The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay. This indirectly led to the invention of Harrison Ford for the 2024 video game Indiana Jones and the Great Circle.

positive · AI labelView post →Modder Nezarn just fixed another issue with the PC version of Chronicles of Riddick, in the latest version of TCoRFix it's now possible to play Butcher Bay in 1440p and 4K. Previously the game would only display the top left of the image at these resolutions.

neutral · AI labelView post →I had low expectations for the Indiana Jones game, everything about it looked incredibly generic. So color me surprised to be hours deep and hooked on a game that's Thief / Riddick: Butcher Bay mix, spiritual successor I didn't know I needed so badly. This game is great.
positive · AI labelView post →Tonight's weird game sampling: D'lirium. A My Little Pony survival horror shooter. store.steampowered.com/app/670160/D... It's pretty good, in a very 90s sorta way. Reminds me of Butcher, the platform shooter. It's also an honest-to-god Christmas game! Finding and opening presents is a mechanic.
neutral · AI labelView post →Video game called Clone Butcher. You play a guy who has found a cloning machine, you make clones of yourself and then kill, butcher, and sell them. The clones, of course, argue with you, fight, and escape. The more clone meat you sell the better you can restrain them.

positive · AI labelView post →WWE giving Necro Butcher a legends deal to include him in a video game while censoring out anything too violent on Netflix replays is very funny to me. Like, of all people, Necro Butcher? Really? I'm going to go out on a limb and say the VAST majority of WWE's current fandom has no idea who he is.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Butcher is just hellishly fun! Anyone who wants to slip into the role of a misanthropic, merciless cyborg won’t go wrong with this game! The pixel style fits perfectly, the soundtrack is nicely dark, the controls are intuitive, and the sound effects really hit hard - in the truest sense of the word! I’m playing it on Steam Deck OLED at 800p / 60Hz. In my opinion, games like this need to be played on a small screen. It’s practically made for the Deck. When you start the game for the first…

neutral · AI labelView post →The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic world after a great war. Players don't take on the role of a hero trying to save humanity, but rather a cyborg on the side of the machine, determined to destroy it. Despite its release in 2016, the game perfectly captures the atmosphere of '90s games. I played on the hard difficulty setting and at times felt like giving up, but I persevered and don't regret it. Because the base game doesn't have an easy difficulty setting, you can feel the difficulty…
