What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 11 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (110 of 118 positive).
Players praise the Lovecraftian story and art style. [1][2][3] Some find the plot confusing and the ending unsatisfying. [4][5][6] Reviewers note bugs and rough English translation. [1][7][8]

Beautifully illustrated but the English translation is pretty awful.

Get through the whole game in 6 hours without walkthrough guidance. Puzzles are all reasonable Very decent story and art, very lovecraftian . All horror scenes are expectable. Bugs do exist, don't pause and save the game while walking.

An unpolished atmospheric horror puzzler, memorable enough to play, but often very rough around the edges. tl;dr below... The Good: - Some great character artwork. - An unpredictable narrative, which keeps the player engaged. - Generally good puzzle design. - An ambitious amount of diversity in the puzzle design for an indie team- not everything lands, but it's good that you don't feel like you're doing the same …

Well... It was interesting. Until the moment when they tell me "that's it, folks, you're doomed" . I could be wrong, but I think there's only one ending to the game, and it's pretty bad for everyone except Chris and Michelle , and that's a bit disappointing. I thought my decisions were supposed to have an impact. But no. Ironically, the linearity of the plot is matched by the linearity of the gameplay . The stories …

Do I understand anything of what I've been playing for the last few days? Not really, no. Did I enjoy it? Sure. Lot of interesting moments when playing the different characters, the puzzles were fun, tension was held well, I like the art. Would I recommend it? Yeah. I bought it on sale, which always helps, and I do think the game is good. Just the story/plot seemingly went over my head a bit, especially when I got …

positive · AI labelView post →Saw a Candlelight Concert of Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones the other night. Was absolutely spectacular. The venue, the musicians, the crowd, and the ambiance. And Rains of Castamere and Light of the Seven brought the house down.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →a linear experience in puzzle solving/ point and click game , interesting story so far.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →25. Some random events were removed from the game earlier than most. The random event Candlelight was added in February 20th, 2006 and was very rare to the point where even regular players at the time (like myself) never saw it. It featured Pious Pete asking you to light candles for him.
neutral · AI labelView post →My haul from FreeRPGDay. I got to play the bottom one—Candlelight Inquisition—with its lead (and I believe SOLE) designer. He seemed pretty cool, and it seems like a pretty fun game so far, so I’d recommend anyone who’s into RPGs or curious about them to check it out at @candlelightrpg.bsky.social

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great story, decent puzzles, bit of lacklustre gameplay. Still recommended, it's a short one.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Read some comments about not understanding what was going on, thought they were silly until i finished my first playthough. Cant say i get whats going on but i am for sure vibing with it 👍 fun puzzles and respawn mechanics. Love the style. Very nice if a bit confusing
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Candlelight: Rings and Dragons A really cool night out with music from Lord of the Rings and from Game of Thrones. 🕯️
neutral · AI labelView post →Another 4e game I'm in just began, it's called Candlelight and we're playing the lieutenants of the big evil guys, in their war against the light! My character is The Count, the second Vampire - the first being his master, one of those BBEGs. The Count is an Ardent, and it's such fun to play!
positive · AI labelView post →https://new.reddit.com/r/Lovecraft/comments/1evzklj/candlelight_lament_the_cold_hard_truth "Candlelight: Lament is an engaging Cthulhu Mythos-inspired game with Eastern Philosophy—striking monochromatic hand-painted art, full of anguish in front of a terrible, chilling reality.
