The only BLOOD ive seen so far is the one coming out from my ears, the audio glitches and the water sfx are driving me insane, please do fix this asap, the audio unbalance is unreal, impossible to hear the dialogue but you get the waterfall literally screaming inside your ears, same goes when you break the barrels in contrast to way lower attacks and missing attack sfx. Edit: Ah and also no subtitles.

A Pirate Game with God of War’s Soul (and 2006’s Bones) Originally announced in 2003. Canceled in 2010. Leaked in 2012. Revived in 2024. Released in 2025. Captain Blood’s journey deserves its own Netflix documentary. The game itself? It’s basically God of War with ship battles and a British accent. Peter Blood isn’t angry like Kratos—he’s just tired. Captain Blood is exactly the game it looks like it is, and not a single pixel more. It's a straightforward, somewhat janky, deeply goofy, budget God of War style hack-and-slash from a bygone era. And yet that's exactly what makes it one of the most unusual games released this year. Because it was never meant to be released this year. It is quite literally an unreleased game from 2010, completed but canceled and set …

I got to play a brand new 360 era game. When are you ever going to be able to say that in your life? Probably never again but Captain Blood truly gives us a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience the greatest era in gaming possibly for the final time. A glorious (actual) throwback to classic God of War style action games of the early 2000's. It has a few rough edges, but it's a ton of fun and the big, bold Xbox 360 era visuals are a delight. Well worth your pieces of eight! Tip: Turn the music and sfx down to halfway and put the voice volume up to full.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Always compelling and absolutely bonkers, EXXOS's Captain Blood from 1988, Commodore Amiga version. The game where a mummified video game creator and captain of an organic starship chases down clones of himself and talks to aliens through emoticons. French sci-fi surrealism at its finest.

neutral · AI labelView post →Captain Blood is not a product of today's world, but an action orgy originally intended for the Xbox 360, which is now considered quite outdated and primitive, but which is still somehow dirty fun despite everything.

Felt like playing God of war I again, but you're A pirate, and his pirate bros, doing piracy. Linear action adventure, no sailing, but you are going to be sinking ships. It has some turret segments, upgrade system, meaningful weapon variance, smooth fixed camera mechanics, QuickTime events and satisfying combat. Everything that made playing on a PS2 memorable and addictive, is here. The artwork is fantastic, the…

positive · AI labelView post →Captain Blood was dubbed "the most beautiful game in the world" when it was released in 1988. Not only the 16 but also the 8-bit versions were awesome, including the C64 one shown here. A game that many played but few understood. Photo shot in my studio.
neutral · AI labelView post →Remember when I interviewed Kazuya Tsurumaki, Schinchiro Watanabe, Flying Lotus, Aaron Paul, and Eiza Gonzalez in the span of a month, ran a feature on a cool under-the-radar game (Captain Blood), and had *another* cool interview the morning before I was laid off? Yeah, that was cool. C'est la vie.
neutral · AI labelView post →Atrocious sound mixing ruining an otherwise fun game. The sound is so awful there is no chance they were unaware of this before releasing. All the dialogues are drowned out by ambient sfx, the water either ocean/waterfall is so loud it drowns out everything else during gameplay. Desynced audio for executions. Way to go managing to ruin the fun game underneath.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gotta beat this game up the way Captain Blood beats his opponents. (also a lifetime opportunity to develop a mental illness.) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow up review: Being lost in time, Captain Blood is one of those games that got stuck in development hell and was eventually got canned. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have been smiling the first hour of playing this game and I initially tried the demo for 5 minutes and then instantly bought the game. Anyone remember Fighting Force on the Playstation?? This game gave me that vibe when playing it and if people recall, games used to be fun back then even though they were very linear. Such simplistic times and nowadays when companies make open worlds, people complain it's too boring and that there are too many "fetch quests". That is why we need to go back…

neutral · AI labelView post →Captain Blood began development in 2003. By 2004 the project leads had been replaced, and development started over from the beginning. By the end of 2004 it had started over for a second time, due to issues about the tone being too kiddy, and wanting to aim for the growing market for mature games. In 2005 a deal was signed with Playlogic in order to help publish the game in Europe and the Americas. This didn't last long because by the end of the year a legal battle began between Playlogic…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They did the thing that every gamer would want for a project, for it to just get finished. It doesn't need a major amount of modernisations (but the ones in place here are great), it doesn't have to get completely scrapped and remade from the ground up if it's suddenly the next console generation, we just want the playable experience start to finish. I honestly wouldn't care a ton about a game like this if it didn't have such a development and release attached to it, but this is pretty fun…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I told myself if I ever got a staff job, I would use that power to put a focus on under-the-radar games. I feel like I did that. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can understand why fans of this games creation from 20 years ago are giving it a positive review. I really do. But I simply can’t. So here’s what I’ll do. If I were to review this game based on when it should have originally been released. Some 20 years ago or wtv, I would have given it an average score. 5/10. It would have been considered an average hack and slash game. Not great but not terrible. If I were to review this game based on it’s release of today I’d say this is a crap game.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →3/10 The story of Captain Blood’s laborious development is far more engaging than the game itself. First announced in 2003, Captain Blood sought to ride the wave of successful hack-and-slashers dominating the market. You can still see the inspiration of titles like Devil May Cry, and later God of War, in the final product. After years of troubled development, the game finally sailed towards a 2010 release date, before a sudden bankruptcy left Captain Blood dead in the water. Fourteen years…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I did not buy this expecting it to be good. I bought this expecting it to be COOL. And just look at that art. It's so damn cool. It perfectly captures what every 12 year old boy who ever played pirates as a kid imagined. I can't believe the guys publishing it felt they had to add a layer of sheepish irony to a game this manly and cool looking. In practice it feels like every single PS2 GoW era hack and slash. Defense isn't real. Attacking feels kinda like chopping through water. Health bars…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There's a reason this game never made it back then. Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled to see this released once and for all. Just to experience this game that I've seen in screenshots almost 17 years ago. But don't be fooled into thinking that this is ''improved'' or anything, it's still the same game that leaked online years ago, with the same issues. Resolutions just don't work properly and squish the visuals, audio mixing is completely off the track, combat has no impact whatsoever,…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'll do some show-and-tell with the game from the previous skeet - Captain Blood. It was one of my favourite 'weird games' as a kid so I'm glad to have a boxed copy of the Atari ST version from 1988. Comes with a cool poster and a novella to set the scene for its bizarre story and universe.
positive · AI labelView post →I bought this because it looked like a godawful God of War knockoff. I underestimated the degree to which this was pure unfiltered Xbox era game design because it's all here. Cutscenes that last several minutes longer than they need to. QTEs that feel incredibly wooden and don't punish mashing every button at random. Combat with stiff and heavy movement against wave after wave of HP sponges. Checkpoints that are 15+ minutes apart. Sound mixing that renders all the dialogue unlistenable.…

positive · AI labelView post →This game is basically nostalgia injected into your PC. Its almost perfectly emblematic of the early PS3/Xbox360 era where games weren't afraid to be a little janky and to try new ideas. Going with an aesthetic rather than trying to make everything photorealistic to inflate the numbers. Its a simple game but it was trying something relatively new at the intended time of release and is a perfectly serviceable romp through the pirate era with flat characters that are really only meant to prop-up…

This game was considered Vaporware or stuck in "development hell" for a long time over a legal battle, pertaining to the rights of the series. afterwards the studio developing Captain blood declared bankruptcy and the game became cancelled. Captain Blood should have been released like 10+ years ago and it SHOWS. this game essentially plays like a worse "god of war clone" for a lack of better…

Obviously it suffers a bit from an outdated UI but I find the EGA graphics ingenious and charming, doing more with less. - (Amiga,DOS, Atari ST)**Defender of…

Only gripe are the musketeer enemies are terrible. Shoot you through everyone, can't really aim them down yourself and have Bruce Lee defense when you try and attack them. You gotta be ranged or super defensive, not both. Other than those stupid bad guys everything else is really fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →honestly, i wanted to like this. i really did. the nostalgic feeling of a hack and slash xbox 360 era game about pirates was really enticing to me. however, the game is a clunky mess that's pretty infuriating. it starts out as a "press E to win" game, then they get rid of those enemies and send in nonstop damage sponge enemies, some of which are so infuriating to even try to approach as they can stunlock you and run away and repeat the process. i can't finish this, but just know i tried to…
