You can permanently lose cards and the game forces you to make blind choices on gaining new cards. You have no idea what cards/champions will be offered in the future so you have no idea how useful each of the offered cards will be in the long run. Additionally, almost all of the "quests" just have you walking back and forth across the map talking to people and making pointless dialogue choices. The art style is …

If you fall in to one or both of these categories you should give this game a shot. A) Love card battlers but don't want to pay for CCG/TCGs B) Traded or played with trading cards in elementary school Immediately hit me in the 4th grade nostalgia when I was running around the playground trading cards with every kid I could find while trying to hide from teachers. A+++ on theme and concept.

At first, I wanted to write a short thank you note to the developers because as a lifelong wheelchair user and a geeky girl, the protagonist of this game and her story made me very happy. But the disability representation in Cardpocalypse is so perfect that instead, I’ll write an article about it on my blog.

This game came out of nowhere and scratched the itch I been so desperately wanting as someone who loves card games and rpgs. The concept of wanting to build your deck and go against other people and obtain cards to slowly tune it and make it stronger is the experience I been craving for and it nails it on the head. I been scouring for these type of games, but most of these titles are either old Yugioh games or recent titles that are likely to never be imported to the west. Card Battler RPG…

This game is good for what it is, but it's not what I wanted. The card combat is a distant second priority to the questing and storyline. + A campaign full of interesting, branching quests + An authentically juvenile personality + A trading economy, house-rules, and other elements simulating the fun of a schoolyard game - Slow-paced - The game uses Hearthstone as a base, and it's a pretty poor Hearthclone - Ugly (on purpose) character designs that don't evoke the time period or actual…

Cardpocalypse is a deckbuilding adventure in which you play a kid arriving at a new school were everyone plays that one card game and watches the accompanying cartoon. The charming cast of children is reminiscent of Costume Quest, but the sinister story and card battling are all it's own. Highly recommended for people who enjoy cute protagonists, a good story, and deck building.

This game could have been AMAZING but has some design and balance shortcomings. I'll list them briefly then go into more detail below. 1) No way to collect all the cards or undo certain permanent changes 2) No real post game or new game+ to try out different deck types. Unskippable cutscenes ruin the thought of replaying the game. 3) Some balance shortcomings can make a couple parts almost impossible in some cases, this game is otherwise extremely easy. I still had fun with this game and not…

I like the look of the game and 'kids playing' aspect. The card game itself is also neet with some card abilties that are quite interesting. The Mega mechanic and your champion always being able to attack are unique ideas. What is lacking is the AI. It is Hearthstone levels of dumb. They often attack enemy minions without killing them, or attack with the champion first taking extra damage when the minion would have already killed it etc. I am only at day 2 so I don't know if the AI gets…

VERY cool game. Best card battler I've played to date. Decent story, full of quirky humour, Tanacious D style soundtrack, and a card theme reminiscent of creature collect games like Pokemon. Deck customisation is also varied and engaging. This doesn't follow the template for boring straight up battles or pick-a-lane type card battlers but works more like a deck builder RPG. What more could anyone want from a card battler Unique graphics / art style 10/10 Gameplay 10/10 Soundtrack 8/10 Story…

This game scratched an itch for me that I miss from the classic Gameboy Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon TCG games which I find not many modern TCG games fulfil. The gameplay has a very pleasant curve from managing a small collection of cards and weighing up what you can afford to trade away into a lategame of a ridiculously overtuned deck that has you winning games in two to three turns, and while the card game itself is quite simple it is very much suited for purpose and honestly one of the more…

Looked good before buying but then the game starts and your playing as a little girl in a wheelchair in a new school and have to put up with all the stupid themes and dialogue that comes with it. "Really? You think my wheelchair is cool?" is an example of actual dialogue. Does not even feel remotely close to the 90s like all the reviews say. The card game itself seems pretty shallow. It is more like pokemon or hearthstone or some other simplified ripoff of M:TG. Theres not really much variety…

Really sat here the entire time waiting for the game to open up and give me something interesting. But a lot of really baffling design choices and generally playing the design of the game very safe leads to an ultimately unengaging and generally very boring and bland game.

my fav genre, I like this game. so here long review, I wrote at nearly 100% the game. You can't collect 'em all Store page says that. That made me hesitate, because I like deck building, so I want to access to 100% card pool. Still bought the game because of CCG RPG itch. Game campaign is structured in 5 days(long day, if you do side activities) at school. Monday to Friday, Day1 works like a tutorial. Early game is okayish because of novelty. The limited card pool problem is kick in around…

If you or someone you know went to elementary school in the 90's, this game does a surprisingly good job recreating that feeling. Gameplay feels good. The soundtrack is great. Dialogue quality is average to good. And I like that you can't collect 100% of the cards; it's a nice change of pace that keeps me from obsessing over micro-managing every little detail of my playthrough. 8.5/10

I was a fan of guild of dungeoneering and its expansions, so I decided to give this game a shot. The only thing this game does right is maintaining the "90's pokemon-esque card game while being at school" tone. The actual card game mechanics are terrible. 99% of the card fights were stupid easy with the exception of the final boss, who I ended up just skipping. I spent about $14 dollars for the base game plus the expansion and I could only force myself through the base game. Definitely not…

Although this genre is my thing, I don't recommend this game. Personally, I think the game looks ugly and in the first few hours didn't catch my attention. It was all just too slow and too much of a hassle. There are more specific nitpicks, for example you start building your own deck at the start, just for it to be taken away. The trickling of new cards feels too slow, and the AI is dumb as sin which apparently doesn't get better later. The 'pure' gameplay variant didn't feel fun either, as…

I've had an interest in Cardpocalypse since first seeing it buried behind Apple's subscription gaming paywall. I'm happy to see that it's available for sale now on Steam, as opposed to renting it through that service. I was a little apprehensive at first, knowing its mobile lineage, plus the "cute" style. My concern was that the game might be too shallow or childish. While the art style is certainly subjective, it's immediately clear from the title screen that the developers had a clear…

Meh. Campaign was short but fun. After that, there's no fun end game. Unless you want to reply the campaign over and over again for 'different decisions.' There's no newgame+ (whatever happened to that in games like this? That would have had me go through the campaign a few more times.) There's a roguelike where you play to repeatedly lose to eek toward a level up to get the small drips of decent cards. Nothing carries from story progression. Its simple but engaging plot sets the stage for refreshingly relatable characters. The first game in a long, long time that inspired me to spend a whole day doing nothing but playing it. Scratches that itch for a card game RPG, one I've been longing for since the days of Yu-Gi-Oh on the DS. The basic structure is very similar to Hearthstone. As for the gameplay, its a take on Hearthstone, very enjoyable to say the least. Cute short card game. It has a lot of customization with the stickers and the story is very simple but serves the purpose of giving the player a goal to work towards. Unfortunately the game has only really 2-3 playstyles per faction and it does get repetitive around the late mid/early late game because there isn't much variation. You just walk back and fourth around a somewhat too big map and fight the same few decks. Still great fun to play through for a few days though!

I really want to like this game, really. It is kind of cute, the story is funny but... ...but being wiped on almost every fight on day 2 already is not fun anymore. Getting new good cards is very hard, because they are "very expensive". You pay with sweets or cards from your deck. So you trade your cards for cards, you don't even know if they are an improvement for your deck. And there is no way back. If you LOVE Trading card games, and also have some nostalgia for playing them in school, this is a charming game with just enough tactical depth to last it's short campaign. Do expect to do some hunting around for better cards and champions. Not overly grindy, but there are matches you prob won't be winning early on. Probably the biggest flaw is the AI makes some…

It's really fun and has fun characters. I just can't play this right now because I'm really frustrated with how hard it is to make a decent deck at the beginning so you lose to everyone. That makes it so there is a lot of content you will probably never get to beat because after the day is done there are all new quests for that day. Can't go back to the old ones. So i love this game other than how hard it is to get new cards. However I'm sure it's just me not being good at this kind of game. It…

Do you miss the cartoons of the late 80s and early 90s? Then enjoy CARD-POC-A-LYPSE~! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0JADFz_4_jA If you want to see my first impressions as they happened, watch my video above. Cardpocalypse is a riff on early 90s cartoons and the experience we all had growing up playing Magic: The Gathering, Pokemon, or Yu-Gi-Oh. The writing, dialogue choices, and the entire attitude is spot on to scratch that nostalgia itch and keep your rose-colored glasses from remembering…

Cardpocalypse is a mobile app that's been dumped on Steam as if it was a real PC game (it's not)... it's a cash grab from greedy mobile devs. One note is that you can't buy this directly on the iOS app store, you have to subscribe to Apple Arcade. Regardless, it's still just a mobile app and not a proper PC game. This "card battler" game is set in school and has you playing a basic Pokemon ripoff with various silly animals like small headed rats and things. The card game "works" but the…

The core of Cardpocalypse is the in-game card game. I'll detail that below, but first some remarks on the other stuff: You play as a wheelchair-bound little girl in a new gradeschool with no friends. Great start eh? At this school, everyone's obsessed with the cardgame "mega mutant power pets" (or something like that) and that's the card game you play. You make friends, and get railroaded into all sorts of quests. There are main story quests and plenty of side-quests, and this is how you…

CARDPOCALYPSE ! Discovered Magic the Gathering in Middle-School, this game emulates almost exactly what it felt playing a card game every adults frowned upon. The over-the-top music is awesome, especially the intro, gameplay is nice, even tho with my experience as a Magic Player it was easy to understand what archetypes were present and/or pushed, and once you get rolling in a single-player game you never hit a stop. I fully recommend this game, i couldn't put it down once i started it, and i…
