Castlevania is a video game series created and published by Konami. The series debuted in Japan on September 26, 1986, with Akumajō Dracula (悪魔城ドラキュラ, Akumajō Dorakyura; lit. "Demon Castle Dracula"), which was later released as Castlevania in the United States (May 1, 1987) and PAL (December 19, 1988). Titles in the series have been released on numerous video game consoles, handheld game consoles, and personal… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 186 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (1,908 of 2,336 positive).
Players praise the collection for including classic Castlevania games, though some note technical issues. [1][2][3] Some players find the games very hard but rewarding with save states. [4][5][6]

Some of the best retro platformers there are. And somehow, one of the worst ways to play them. Want a sensible screen size? Better look elsewhere, because apparently that's too much to ask from a paid collection. Less input lag? Look elsewhere, you filthy peasant. How about a proper translation for Castlevania II, with some quality-of-life fixes? Nope. Not even as an alternative version. They could have added one …

I just finished completing every game and getting every trophy, so I figured it was fitting to write this. Overall, this is an amazing collection of the early Castlevania games, some of which I played when I was younger with my dad, and some I played for the first time. Being a collection, I think it's only fair that they get reviewed individually: Castlevania I Overall Rating: 8/10 This is a great game. Just wanted …

An incredible collection of retro classics! Castlevania is a magical series, and now you can own the games legit and get achievements too! this collection might not have the best emulation out there but its servicable, and I still managed to 100% it by completing all games, don't forget the save states are your best friend when in trouble! I'd honestly buy this collection JUST for Super Castlevania IV and …

This is generally just a great collection of linear platforming action games, even though the achievements don't add much. I had already beaten most of the games here years ago, but it was fun to revisit and reattempt to master them. The first three Castlevanias are kind of essential except for maybe Castlevania 2 Simon's Quest which is horribly dated and only playable with a guide because it's overly cryptic and …

This is an entire full pack of every Classic-Vania game in the series, including GB games & a translated version of Haunted Castle. 1. neutral · AI labelView post →I love Castlevania, this collection however not so much, and it's almost entirely because of the audio issues. the Majority of the time on startup, once you get to the game select screen, the audio will crackle horribly. If that ever gets fixed, i'll change this review to positive.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Build your retro library without breaking the bank. Lately, I've been seeing many social media posts about skyrocketing prices of retro video games. Which is funny because I see complaints about that every few years. It's cyclical. In fact, this was my big complaint all the way back in 2013 when every copy of Earthbound seemed to be going for $100. So let me mention how I dealt with that problem then -- which is still applicable to now. I stopped focusing on *physical* console games, and I…

neutral · AI labelView post →I love the Castlevania games and this should be a good collection to have of the old school nostolgic NES/SNES era games... If it didn't blow out my eardrums. Seems that there is a new issue with the audio in the collection, so avoid it until something is done about it.

I confess that I spent about 100 dollars....American dollars....on a console controller to play a game on my PC. I know that I've committed a mortal sin against the PC gaming gods and their divine keyboard/mouse interface....but I couldn't help it father! I have recently purchased some old NES games on this Steam service on my PC and just couldn't suffer the damage I was doing to my keyboard playing…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Barebones and lazy, disappointing from M2, whose quality seems to fluctuate between releases. If there was a "Maybe" option that sits between Yes or No I'd choose that. What you're getting: - The main series (NES/SNES): Castlevania 1-4 - The side series (GB): The Adventure and Belmont's Revenge - The MD/GEN game: Castlevania Bloodlines - The exclusive game here: Kid Dracula translated into English Weirdly, they must've forgotten that the SNES received another game, Castlevania Dracula X,…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →2025 Game Log START 8 games & countless expletives later, my replay of Castlevania Anniversary Collection (Steam) is complete! CV1: Classic. Hard af. Cheesing Death was fun though. CV2: Consulted a guide a few times but it was fun in spite of the obtuse progression.
neutral · AI labelView post →I do not recommend buying this collection because of lack multiple save states, audio issues and being unplayable in some places because of fps drop.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just get the collection if you're a Castlevania fan and when it's on sale. Otherwise here is what I think about each games. Castlevania original : Banger game Castlevania II Simon's Quest : Banger game if you have a guide next to you Castlevania III Dracula's Curse : It's so great I love it, it's in fact my favorite in this collection, but be careful : It's a very hard game. Super Castlevania IV : Too easy for my taste, I don't like the music either but it's just because I hate 16 bits musics…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wish I could recommend this, but the technical problems with this port still terrorize it 6 years after its release. Audio is completely broken, regularly becoming deafeningly loud or crunchy, making the actual fantastic audio of the series disappear. It controls fine - better with a controller than M&K - but the poor optimization and silence on fixing the audio problems that are commonly found on the community hub dissuade me from recommending this to anybody. If you want a better…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →All they had to do was stick roms in a windows app and add basic functionality, and call it good. Want graphics options that are standard on all PC games, nope. Full screen, no option use Alt-Enter Exit game? Alt-F4 Want 4:3 without scanlines? Change your monitor to force 4:3 and use their 16:9 setting. This is crazy, stay away if you play on a controller/couch.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →These are great games, in their original form. And probably in this form, too, but for me the game (including sound) plays at 2x speed (at least), and no video card setting adjustments from comments/online guides have fixed it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Top 9 video games (I cheated with Castlevania Anniversary Collection and the "new" Doom collection)
neutral · AI labelView post →Game is riddled with audio bugs, and the game speed is tied to framerate. If I wanted to spend time having to troubleshoot technical issues I would download an emulator. Absolutely pathetic. ♥♥♥♥ Konami.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's frustrating playing these classic games in this collection. There are eerie audio issues and I'm always afraid to open the game collection's menu screen during gameplay since there is always a chance the game will crash when I open it, losing progress in the process. It's especially that latter issue that I cannot recommend this collection. There are apparently third-party fixes for the sound but for random crashing from opening the menu, I don't know.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I keep giving it a try because I love the series, but this implementation sucks. I'd rather just use emulator.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I’m trying Kid Dracula (NES) on the Castlevania Anniversary Collection and I’m enjoying it but I’m a little disappointed the collection doesn’t also include the Game Boy game
neutral · AI labelView post →I love this series but these collections are riddled with bugs that can freeze or crash the game. The advance collection is the only one that has not had that issue for me.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A fine way to play the old games, but the emulation is terrible. Glad to "own" these games so I can justify emulating them with a proper emulator.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a collection of some of the best Castlevania games and is essential play for anyone who wants to really understand Castlevania's roots. Expect Classicvania, not Metroidvania. It's hard, it challenges you, it expects you to die, but you have unlimited continues. Every game is beatable, even on Loop 2. This game comes with Save States, but these games were not designed with them in mind and it breaks the challenge. They are memorable due to the difficulty, so get good. You wouldn't play…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great games, but they're very hard. Get them while they're on sale instead of paying them at full price. Also good for nostalgic reasons.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The complete lack of quality and polish in this software inspired me to boycott Konami from now on. They didn't even bother to include the most basic of config options.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game itself is great, and it's a pretty good port/collection of the games. However, it has a game breaking constant audio glitch, which has not been patched even 7 years after release. If you can play without the legendary soundtrack- then get the game. Otherwise, don't touch this with a 100-foot pole.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →all of the games in this collection are great, some of the best class Castlevania out there in its most accessible form. but there's some weird bug that makes the Audio sound horrible. everything else about this collection is great. but please find some way to fix this. the soundtrack of these games in Iconic
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Stick with the Advanced and Dominus collection This is truly the worst way you can experience these classic games, I have the audio crackle with and without headphones, they keep scanlines in when playing 4:3 so its darker than how I remember it. Konami needs to fix the technical issues for this before it can be recommended. It's behavior like this why gamers use emulators especially since these are games that built Konami up as one of the best 3rd party developers of the 8 and 16 bit era.…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The future collections make this one look bad in comparison and in a dire need of an update. To start with the good, the bonus book is really neat. It's cool to see some behind the scenes on the creation of these games and some extra lore connecting these games together. Getting an official translation of Kid Dracula on the NES is a nice surprise, with the added bonus of including the Japanese versions which differ slightly on graphics, sound and difficulty. It's always nice to have options,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Original characters are a must for me, and good writing is a plus. Combined with great gameplay from start to finish, it's an instant buy. Definitely! I only buy awesome games that most gamers around the planet enjoy. I won't buy one if it is 'exclusively' good for a few other gamers, or certain players IYKWIM. Now let's go back to old school gaming, retro era, easy to play hard to master, old but gold games. This particular game has been a favorite of mine since the series debuted on…

Now the main standout games here are castlevania 1, castlevania 3, super castlevania 4 and castlevania bloodlines. All these games are really good with me enjoying 3 and 4 the most. The other games are ok but are more just extra things in this collection, the ones I listed are the games you are getting this collection for. The games are stupid hard though, I still haven't managed to beat…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is a great collection and it includes (except Simon's Quest) the Japanese versions of the games as well! What makes this notable really is Castlevania III, which was released for the Famicom Disk System in Japan and had the inclusion of the VRC6 chip to have better audio and some added visual treats. In the US, the NES ROM cartridge only supported 5 tracks of audio, so it was sorely lacking when compared. Also, Grand DaNasty in the US version "stabs" with his dagger, in the Famicom version…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've only played the OG and IV in this collection, but decided to give it a thumbs up in advance. It's truly a wonderful experience to go back in time and experience the games of yore without the need to track down physical copies and the consoles themself. The only thing I would say that is somewhat negative is the inability to rebind the controls to any button (I play with a keyboard) but in the end I got used to it. I will definitely keep playing and recommend it to all those seeking a good…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →nah they sold us an emulator with ♥♥♥♥♥♥ features I don't regret buying it but I don't recommend you do doesn't even have Rondo of Blood. It should have Rondo of Blood.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Okay, we beat Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. So, depending on how tomorrow goes, if a remaster/remake of Bloodborne is announced, I am going to wait to play it and instead play the Castlevania Anniversary Collection. If not, I will have Bloodborne ready to start after The Game Awards.

If Steam offered a neutral choice I would absolutely choose that option, but I am forced to give either a positive or a negative choice so I opted for the good side. As mentioned for the collection of games it has and what it is, its alright at best but s h e e s h does it have a few issues that bugged me while playing, and from those…
