The gloomy mood is spot on. However, the early game is extremely counterintuitive (I’ve spent an hour and a half just trying to figure out how to get out of the first cell). Some choices seem to trap you in a disorienting loop where you start the three days thinking you’re making progress, only to get locked out of the simulation and forced to start over from scratch. There are probably different approaches to …

I went into Centum expecting a standard horror game, but it’s so much weirder and more abstract than I thought. The puzzles can be hard at times, but the story kept me hooked. Definitely not for everyone, but if you like cryptic, surreal horror, it’s worth the ride.

I don't usually post serious reviews. I could have just written "Every why has a wherefore" (a direct quote from the game) and call it a day. But, considering that - even among its niche - Centum isn't an easy recommendation, I wanted to point out my thoughts. For the record, I've just finished the game once. In short: bemusing and curious, in a good yet extravagant way. Let's start with the easy pros. First, its …

What is an escape room without an escape? Centum is a game about questions and reflecting on your own reality. The game will probably take 3-4 hours to complete depending on how quickly you read and how much you want to do, but what is there to really DO in this game? The art style is charming, but I was really more hoping for a more game-like feeling than a visual novel (I thought it would have elements of an escape room). I'm sure people who REALLY love narrative-driven games will enjoy progressively unlocking the story but honestly there was just too much self-masturbatory tortured pseudo intellectual text for me to really enjoy it.

This is lovely as a sort of art piece, but as a game it gets a nope from me. At first you're led to think this is a point click adventure with some light RPG aspects, but the feeling of actually playing, interacting and having any sort of agency is taken away after you leave the first room, which felt like the only place in the entire game that gave you some choices and different outcomes. For the last 2 hours all you'll do is to click through dialogues and to give some credit, the way the…

I picked this game on Steam Next Fest, knowing nothing about it. The tone and surreal combination of some OS parody and Kafkaesque prison stirred my imagination. In the end, the game turned out to be a multi-narrative point and click (Sanitarium comes to mind), despite looking like something more. I wasn't a fan of the "making a simulation" subplot, but I did appreciate the writing, art, and bigger world that clearly exists outside this partocular story (it's based on a number of short…

Billing the game as an "unreliable narrative-driven adventure where everything may be a lie" is a bit like telling someone they should watch a movie with an unknown runtime because it has endless plot twists. While I think the artwork and animation is great, this is a pretty rough gameplay experience. The dialogue choices and story elements are extremely forced, and leave no room for interpretation. It feels less like an atypical horror-puzzle game that breaks the usual formula, and more…

Was really looking forward to this, and loved many little artistic things about it, but the execution fell so short of what was presented. I also had faith in it due to the bundling with The Excavation of Hobb's Barrow, but this game unfortunately is nowhere near that game's level. Would love to see the dev team work this further so that the story can be as rich as it's presented to be on the store page rather than just a jumble of pseudo-intellectual/pseudo-philosophical platitudes. There is a famous book in Poland by J. Krzysztoń where the writer semi-autobiographically describes his own experience with acute schizophrenia. He describes in great detail what was he thinking. It was at the same time hyperrealistic and surrealistic. You hear stories which sometimes have great detail, which feel deep, poetic. But just if you think you are starting to grasp them they fade, and the reality transforms to something bizarre and unrecognisable. Do those things, these delusions have…

~3 hours in and I have close to zero idea what is going on here I went in expecting this game to be an escape room puzzle game as the description and the tag says. It was not really that. This is a pure, philosophical visual novel. A visual novel which is VERY unconventional in design and writing. Cryptic, mysterious and obscure to the point you will constantly ask yourself wth is going on here. So if you want something like that, go for it... I just got tired of trying to make sense of the…

Centum is pure narrative deception. It redefines what an adventure can be. You start trapped, tasked with escaping a cell, but that’s just the bait—soon, you’re ensnared in a labyrinth of doubt where the unreliable narrator reigns supreme. This isn’t just a story; it’s a living, breathing puzzle of the mind, with every click and choice shaping an artificial intelligence that toys with your perception of truth. The pixel-art aesthetic, steeped in psychological horror, is a perfect vessel for its…

The art is genuinely beautiful, but I feel like I'm reading dialogue written by a mystical rat wizard that only speaks in riddles. The game is also broken in some aspects and it is very easy to be frustrated or softlocked (tic-tac-toe ESPECIALLY suffers from this since you will auto lose even when trying to put down an X). I also think controls for some of the other sections of the game need to be spelled out.

What is Centum? Beats me :) And somehow, that feels just right. It's a mix of tragicomedy, madness, noir, music, atmosphere, despair, meaning, chaos, fear and uncertainty. It makes you feel uneasy, like you need to escape. But at the same time, it grips you with curiosity, making you stay to unravel what's happening. You make choices, yet there's an unsettling feeling that someone else is making them for you - someone always one step ahead, someone you despise (or fear?), someone you want…

What can I say about this game? It's really hard to synthesize. Every why has a wherefore? It's quite the absurdist visual novel with a pretty satisfying denouement. This is very much a work of art. It won't be for everyone. It's like if Samuel Beckett made a dark video game. It also made me think of House of Leaves. Centum attempts to explore the theme of artificial intelligence, with its fascination and risks, and with a horror tone very well captured by its pixel art. On the narrative side, one must admit the story can be disorienting and perplexing. Still worth a try. This medium needs developers willing to take risks and experiment.
