Maybe you're like me, and you looked at game guides back in the day, including this website someone hosted themselves that was billed as "Visual Guides" or some such. You went there for the Doom 3 guide, but they had others too for games you never heard of. Including one with some cool space-marine armored dudes pictured on the orange surface of Mars and with a level clearly on a space station. Chaser. If this dude wrote the Doom 3 guide (and…

Chaser's story is all over the place and actually not really worth talking about at all. It is basically a muddled, bloated, badly written variation of the plot of Schwarzenegger's movie Total Recall and its sole purpose is to give an excuse for a dozen hours of mindless non-stop runing and guning. Speaking of which, the guns are nice, but it is funny how mankind lives on Mars in 20 years, but on the other hand still…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In the beginning, to be fair, I have to say that I worked at Cauldron (Chaser's dev team) as a programmer, however I not participated at Chaser production. I came to company right after Chaser. I finished Chaser 4 times and I always enjoyed it a lot. Even now, playing Chaser after 8 years from my last play. It's very solid shooter, one of the last "classic" shooters. It means, health/armor as numeric value, with difficulty quite hard, comparing to today standards. By hard, I don't mean just…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thank god it's over. This is easily one of the most boring fps games I've ever played, AND IT'S SOOOO LONG. Like, this game should have ended 5-6 hours ago because dear god every second I was playing it I was wanting it to end but it just kept going and going gray corridor after gray corridor, awful cutscene after awful cutscene, it's torture. Don't play this game even if you're a fan of FPS games it really isn't worth it, this game is like a poor man's Red Faction but if it was developed in…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Bought it for insidegaming nostalgia, it's still funny asf and it feels weird to be the one playing it now, remembering all the funny videos they made. Also the level designer must've been high asf, the maps are labyrinths. Other than that the game is funny asf and gunplay feels somewhat enjoyable, for 1.24 euros it's a steal, JOEWOOD the legend the myth, stop strangling your parrot.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I suppose there's a reason if nobody remembers this game anymore. While it looks decent for its time (but let's not forget 2003 was just a year before Half-Life 2 and Doom 3), and there's a hint of Far Cry in the weapons and shooting feel, the game overall is about as bad as you'd imagine. From what I've seen, the story is what would happen if Deus Ex met Total Recall, but also forgot that things have to make sense. Levels are labyrinths made of rooms that all look the same, which reminds me…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Released in 2003, this is very much a classical FPS. For those that cannot look past dated graphics and old-style gameplay (for example grenades being considered weapons rather than a hotkey), this game is not for you. It is also a fairly long game- taking me almost 13 hours to complete on Normal difficulty The plot of the game is… difficult to understand. You play as an amnesiac whom, after escaping to Earth, discovers that they are the legendary rebel John Chaser. Beyond that, and despite…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Note: It is impossible to complete the game due to a game breaking bug in one of the missions where the graphics will completely glitch out making it impossible to navigate the map and finish what is already a confusing level. This reason alone is why I don't and can't recommend this game to anyone. And seeing how old this game is, a fix for this glitch is pretty much null. But if completing the game isn't your primary goal and you're still interested enough to look into what kind of game…

neutral · AI labelView post →I highly recommend it to everyone who likes classic wandering FPS. The level design could be better, it's noticeable that the developers got into it from the middle of the game. The strength of the game is the abundance of mainly real weapons, which look incredibly good and are easy to use. There are relatively many types of enemies, I don't feel like I'm killing the same clone army for 10+ hours. And yes, the game is difficult, often unrealistically difficult.

Even if you will open the door it doesn't means correct way. If you want to play i recommend you to first look play through of it. Without it you will stuck in every second corner. i have mixed experience first part until last mission and last mission experience. I will skip first part because it is usual fps game. Last mission oh boy. You will encounter tons of bugs…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's really mediocre even by 2003 standards. This game is a generic shooter, with a lot of ideas mixed together, that quickly ends up being awful to play. The level design is horrible. You have huge levels filled with nothing but dead ends. It constantly feels like you have to escape a repetitive maze that serves also as a shooting gallery, because the devs remembered at the last moment that the game is supposed to be a first-person shooter. Everything feels amateurish and unfinished. The…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fairly long old-school FPS with an alright story and a pretty good soundtrack. The game hasn't aged well at all, so only get it if you're feeling nostalgic / adventurous. In my opinion the first third of it is the best, but as you progress it will gradually lose it's charm. Be warned: It's buggy as hell.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game isn't just difficult, it's cheap and left to chance. I enjoyed it for a bit but getting instantly annihilated by enemies that just spawn in behind you is utterly absurd. Plenty of potential; this could've been a really fun shooter, but achieves only misery.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Taking advantage of being stuck in bed with covid to watch GL dramas, and I was amused when watching "Chaser Game W", when she comes out to her estranged husband as a lesbian, there's spooky thunder and rain to punctuate the moment 😅(followed immediately by the upbeat ending theme)
neutral · AI labelView post →Not a good game, even for its time. The level design is labyrinthian and samey, the encounter design is something straight out of an arcade rail shooter with enemies appearing exclusively around corners, doors, and other ambush positions with lightening fast reaction times, the bullet time mechanic is non-sensical with every gun and enemy being hitscan, and the game quickly wears out its welcome in general while enforcing quicksaves and loads due to all of the above. The graphics are nice for…

I've played worse since, but this was an absolute low at the time for me. Before this game, I would try to find at least one redeeming quality in every game I played. Not Chaser. This game was irredeemable dog ♥♥♥♥. Every second of the gameplay was utterly joyless, to a level I had never yet encountered, and I had been playing games, good and bad, steadily since Doom 1 came out. The gunplay was…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →WEIRD It's better than it seems at the beginning. The game starts terrible and get better little by little. It never gets amazing. But it's old school shooting, it's janky and it shows a great effort by the developer to offer something interesting from the point of story telling. I think you can enjoy this game more today as a nostalgia thing than when it released. 6.5/10 - Chasing Excellence. Never catching it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →BUG-CHASER or Total Fail of Recall ***Occasional spoilers below*** When I started playing I was going to write a positive review. There still going to be some residual praze. The beginning is amazing. The first enemies you encounter are hard but in an interesting way - place your shot well and you barely spent a a few rounds, get a well placed shot - and loose most of your health. Thus you end up playing tactical, thinking on every turn, and if you do it right, then you come out on top.…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Before someone starts playing for the first time, he needs to know. Go to the settings and adjust the buttons because there is a feature that slows down the time and it is not a button and nowhere in the game do they tell you that you have it. I got through 95 percent of the game before I realized I had it. And in a video clip. The game is not bad, it looks good for so many years, there are pluses and minuses. Too long and the levels are like a maze, but the most difficult thing is to find the…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Simply an unfair game. Go through a door, check behind the door, there's no one there. Move three steps into the room - THEN someone spawns in the space behind the door that I just checked and starts shooting me in the back. And this happens over. And over. Usually advancing those few steps into the room also triggers the rest of the enemies, so I'm getting shot from multiple locations by enemies with pin-point accuracy. The Little Tokyo level was terrible in this regard, but that level was…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game that tried really hard and failed at nearly everything by someone who REALLY loved Total Recall. It has a lot of weapons with different fire modes, some of which are pretty fun, a ton of different locations, a story that has a lot going on and absolutely no focus. Most of the guns are interchangeable, the level design is awful to the point where you get lost for a long time until you find the way forward hidden away where you'd maybe expect a secret and the story is a mess with an ending…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game did not age well unfortunately. Hordes of enemies attacking you without any explanation who they are and how they got there, weird mixture of real life and sci-fi weapons. The story makes you go from one end of a very big map to the other all the time, the world is not interactive, due to game mechanics and artificial limitations you can't get to places that look easily within one jump's reach. I was excited about it when it came out, but never had a chance to play it then, by now…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ trash. It's old and pretty busted. It's my junk food, but I don't recommend it to anyone. It's a complete rip-off of Total Recall, but with a much more confusing plot, much less recognizable characters, and the most abysmal pacing I have ever experienced. There are long periods of the game where you basically just sit and watch vehicles lumber around. I'm confused. I'm angry. I'm tired. I had an absolute blast, and I think there is something deeply wrong with me.

neutral · AI labelView post →Chaser, developed by Cauldron and published by THQ Nordic in 2003, is a first-person shooter that combines fast-paced combat with a cyberpunk-infused narrative of identity, deception, and survival. The game puts players in the role of a man who awakens aboard a space station with no memory, gradually discovering that he has assumed a false identity. As the story unfolds, the protagonist learns he is Scott Stone, who underwent plastic surgery to become John Chaser, placing him at the center of a…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have a vague memory of playing this game as a child so I decided to pick it up again. Unfortunately, it turned out to be disappointing due to outdated mechanics. It starts off promising. The Earth rotates beautifully outside a lab window, my character walks a bit, picking up a dead soldier’s rifle with a good sniper scope. But soon I realized the game revolves around a maze like map of opening identical doors. I entered an open area with three stories and an elevator that takes me to the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →When I was 7, a kid in my neighborhood had this pile of old boards and scrap sitting in his parents' driveway. He gleefully showed me that what from the outside looked like just a junkpile actually had a kid-sized entrance. There was a tiny space inside with a carpet on the ground, and despite all the rusty nails and spiders, it made a pretty cool fort. Or so I thought at the time. That fort is kind of like Chaser. I'm sure it looked kind of cool at the time, but now in 2023, it's hard to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Chaser is a highly ambitious first attempt at making an FPS game from Cauldron, an ambition that was only seen once more in Gene Troopers before Activision Value relegated them to budget game development for existing IPs. The game features a behemoth of a campaign taking you across the world and into space, which takes around 20 hours to complete for a first playthrough on the normal difficulty level, making it one of the longest linear FPS campaigns ever made. In the vein of many open world…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A candidate for one of the most broken games of all time, with probably the most retarded level design I've ever seen. Chaser is a masterpiece of old ♥♥♥♥♥♥ FPS games, the best one out there. I highly recommend this experience, it's one unlike any other. So what makes Chaser stand out? Firstly, the AI can be described as a CSGO hacker that doesn't know to play the game. Enemies will know where you are before you even get there, they will frequently manage to hit you even when they're not…
