What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 183 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (815 of 873 positive).
Players praise the unique mechanic of switching between 2D platformer and top-down puzzle perspectives. [1][2][3] Many find the puzzles clever and rewarding, though difficulty spikes in later levels. [4][5][6] Some reviewers note the lack of an undo button and tedious precision platforming as drawbacks. [7][8][9]

I like this game in principle - and I played it for quite a while before giving up on it - but too much just doesn't work. It wants to blend top-down block-pushers with 2D platformers, and that's fun in principle and does successfully lead to some very creative ideas, but rather than sticking to having both genres being in a puzzler sense it decides to mix in heavy action/skill elements which is overall very janky. …

Nice mix between side and top down view puzzle game. Control two characters - one is played like normal side view 2D platformer, another plays like Sokoban where you push boxes to create paths or platforms for previous character (in top down view). Both have to reach the end of level. Clever puzzles, finding solution is not that hard but makes you think for a while until finally getting eureka moment. Unique …

It’s frustrating that the game doesn’t have an undo button (like in other puzzle games such as Baba Is You). It’s so easy to push blocks too far, especially when using a controller. Often, I have to restart an entire level just because I pushed a block one spot too far and made it immovable. I find myself hesitant to try different solutions because I dread replaying the whole level. It’s very tedious, and I feel …

The game is very clever. You swap between a 2D platformer and a top-down view to solve puzzles. Many times I got those moments of: oh, now I get it! that made me feel smart, yet dumber than the designer :P The difficulty ramps up nicely, the boss fights are interesting, and i'm curious to try the co-op option and see how well it works. If you're a fan of puzzle games, give it a try.

What a fantastic experience this was! Finished this game with a friend in Co-op, and I must recommend this to anyone looking for a game to play with a friend, a partner or a skilled teenager as a parent-son experience. Seriously if you have grown kids, it's probably one of the best games you can play together. It's a great challenge, and so rewarding! Some levels are really tricky and will take some time to solve …

You control one hero from each dimension, who share the same space in the levels. You switch between platformer and top-down modes and must get both characters to the goal. The boss levels are hard but very cool, combining action and puzzles. Also features local 2-player co-op and a…

Difficult Achievement(s): Yes (1 achievement). Intro Toodee and Topdee come from different worlds. Toodee comes from a sidescroller, platformer world while Topdee comes from a top-down, block-pushing world. Toodee and Topdee combine both mechanics into a puzzle platformer with a bit of precise platformer element in some of its levels. It offers 100+ levels with…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →TLDR: Toodee and Topdee is a game with a super strong concept, but the further it goes on the more precise and ridiculous the puzzles become. Completing the game feels like a waste of time with how tedious and difficult it can be, and even though carried by strong strong supports from the art, soundtrack, controls, and the level design that starts out fun and interesting, it quickly becomes tedious and repetitive. So, maybe I just was expecting the wrong thing coming into this game, but this…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am not a fan of platformers. But when i saw this game i was amazed by how cute it looked and how interesting the perspective change seemed to be. Never seen anything like it. it also didn't seem like one of these hardcore precision platformers but more puzzle focused. I genuinely enjoyed the first three universe levels (about 3 hours playtime maybe?), after that the game became absolutley attocious. In the beginning, you have puzzles, very little reflex based levels and a ton of fun solving…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good and interesting concept but bad and uninspired execution. This is a puzzle platformer so I will focus mostly on these 2 aspects of the game. Puzzles are boring. I finished 4 out of 5 chapters and there were only 2 puzzles I was stuck on for 10 to 15 minutes. The idea of changing the aspect from 2D to 3D is a great idea and makes it a good tool for interesting puzzles. Sadly this wasn't the case here. What you got is generic puzzles with most of the main puzzler genres like sokoban,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a difficult platformer this game is good. A bit like meatboy in the way you manipulate enemies and restart a level quickly. However, most of the puzzles are easy and tedious. The solution is usually straightforward but you have to do it again when you accidentally push a block wrong or mess up the platforming. The concept is very good and the game is well-made, with a fitting story. It's just not very enjoyable most of the time.

The result was so good that the dev(s) went ahead and spent a lot of time to turn that prototype into a full game. I myself first knew about this game by playing it at Kongregate website, many years ago, and I'm very pleased with the fully complete game available on Steam. The gameplay is great.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →How did they manage to make a grid-based puzzle game feel like it has floaty controls? Tapping a directional key too quickly will cause the character to half-step forward and then glide backwards into the previous tile he was standing on. I guess this is what Jonathan Blow was talking about, how sokoban with real-time elements is a hard problem... and this isn't the solution.

The last area/world song, Return; by Kajnoon, is sooooo good! Gives a sense of urgency but still reminds me of puzzle themes, it fits perfectly! 2️⃣🧩
positive · AI labelView post →While playing the first four worlds I thought the game is very good, however when I reached the final world I realized that the game is no longer a puzzle platformer, but a time trial rush to the end. Which was very frustrating and unenjoyable experience to a so far pretty nice puzzle game. Overall I am sad that the end of the game has more to do with my coordination (or my lack of it) than to figure out a solution with my brain.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was such a creative and fun game to play as co-op! The last levels can be challenging which makes it feel more rewarding when you finally beat it. Definitely a must play for all co-op enthusiasts.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nowadays? If you want to get a game in my face, it has to be via word of mouth or be blown in by the winds of Steam. I took a look through my game library and these are the broad categories of how a game ended up there. * Friends (though I tend to be the recommender for my friends) * Path of Exile, Cobalt Core * I liked the demo at Steam Next Fest * Moonlight Pulse, Laika: Aged Through Blood, Cassette Beasts * Announcement through a game I already like * Jackbox series, Slayers X,…

Toodee and Topdee combines these two genres so beautifully in a fun puzzle platformer adventure where you need to play as both characters to overcome challenges.
neutral · AI labelView post →Honestly great game i wouldn't say its fez like but its a better puzzle game then most puzzle game and it is a true puzzle and the art is smooth especially bosses! I would love if they had more bosses and or a sword lol but its great. OH AND IF YOU HAVE A HANDHELD PC OMG IT FEELS AMAZING ON MY XBOX ROG ALLY!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Really fun game, with unique mechanic. Story is nothing too deep, but it’s fun, and well implemented. Gameplay is enjoyable, and the puzzles are just challenging enough without being too difficult. However, if you’re going for the 100% achievements, be prepared for a grind. You’ll need to complete trials on every map, pass the secret level, and defeat every boss without dying once. So, it’s a challenge. Overall, it’s fun – Give it a try!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Kinda hard puzzles in the last few chapters. Very unique mechanics with the mix of a 2D platformer person and a top-down block pushing guy
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Controls don't feel great it's hard to tell how much your character is going to move in a certain direction, let alone if they will go in the direction you ask them to. The last chapter of this game changes the entire game play from a casual puzzle game to Super Meatboy levels of platforming for no reason. You have to race against a moving wall that will kill you if you don't make the exact right moves the game wants you to make. I was 2 levels into the last chapter before it ruined the whole…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →"Toodee and Topdee" is yet another of literally thousands of 2D retro platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. In fairness this is probably one of the better 2D retro pixel console ported platformers out there, which is like saying this is really one of the best diseases one can possibly get. The gimmick here is that the 2D platforming puzzles are solved by switching to a 2D block placement mode, which allows you to rearrange the platformer…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →game crashes at launch, but steam still thinks its open soooo never once got the game to work, but was able to afk steam cards for 4 hours looks like fun update-got it working on steam deck and the gameplay is far to slow to hold my interest
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Toodee and Topdee is a nice co-op puzzle platformer. I really like the concept of switching perspectives to solve puzzles or make challenging jumps. I thought the dialogue and story was just ok, but the ending was wholesome <3 Warning: the difficulty really ramps up in the second half of the game for both puzzles and platforming
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →That's very good. This concept reminds me of Fez, in which you need to roll 2D-world around. In this one it's similar, but you actually don't need to roll anything. The puzzles are well-designed, both for singleplayer and multiplayer (2 players coop). I would highly recommend it to try at least, and to play at most :)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What is a game you dropped this year? I dropped Toodee and Topdee. Just wasn't that fun for me but I do think the idea is cool (switching between isometric and 2D to solve puzzles). A game I wish I dropped: Ni No Kuni 1. Game does not get enough hate lol
negative · AI labelView post →These clunky controls make me crazy.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →cool game but after half word 3 the The difficulty of the game go up like crazy so i kinda cheat after word 3 but its was fun game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thoughts so far: Toodee and Topdee is a technical programming & level design masterpiece, with smooth visual transitions you don't get from many GameMaker games. Hats off, great game. Would recommend buying. Chico is also a good game to scratch a certain retro itch if you really like Gameboy...
positive · AI labelView post →Finally beat it and have a few thoughts: It's a fun game. It's very, very, tricky at times (we had to look up one level), but otherwise fun. When getting frustrated just walk away for a bit and come back fresh. Music is good throughout but I'd like a few more tunes in there, maybe 2-3 songs per level, just in case there is more time needed, like if you die 20 times - second song kicks in. Art is good, and I really love the mechanics for the game but I felt like poor TopDee just carried the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Indie-recommandation of the day is "Toodee and Topdee". A puzzle-platformer where each puzzle has you switching between two characters: one controlled in a top-down perspective and the other like in a 2D platformer. I can't think of any game that has done this before #blutoid
neutral · AI labelView post →A game where you switch between two worlds and wonder why you decided to play a game that enjoys watching you suffer.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →KAMGUSTA's mini Review A nice and polished puzzle game, where you have to switch, in real time, from a 2D platform to a 3D top down box pushing (Sokoban-like). You play with both characters at the same time, and deciding when to switch between the two is part of every puzzle. In these games the level design is a fundamental factor, and I can say it's well made. They also tried to not get it boring, with every level throwing at you something new or different, while putting some humour in the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's charming, it's cute and its puzzles are entertaining. Add the accessibility options which allow you to play it at your own pace, this is a great puzzle platformer. Despite all of those positives, I still give this a derec out of sheer, unholy spite. Because f--- that last achievement. And f--- all of the previous positives for fooling me into making a go for it.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At first I thought this game was ass because it was too easy, I was wrong it's amazing. The first levels are basically trolls then it gets challenging quick.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it's a good game don't get me wrong, but i think it gets way too difficult later on for your average player, i don't want to search up a walkthrough as that ruins the experience for me. i know that this is just a skill issue but i spent 25 minutes on one level and didn't make through which sucks.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i came back to this game to clear out my backlog and remembered why i dropped it in the first place. i wish there was an undo feature. accidentally pushing blocks into holes or getting them stuck along the edge gets annoying.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Super creative and polished game. The mechanics keep getting refreshed at all times, when you think the concept is dried up there is a new mechanic to give it back its freshness.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game deserves so much love. Its core concept is really cool, and the boss fights are especially mind-bending. A word of warning: the "hard as nails" description becomes very fitting in the last couple of chapters, and like other comments mentioned the "platformer" aspect gets turned up in the final chapter. Overall I would recommend.
