I always want to give the benefit of the doubt and assume the developer did their best with the time given. The level design and core concepts are there. However, it wasn't released in the best state and that's a shame. -The framerate on objects you hit is different than everything and it's super distracting. -Transitions have jarring cut jumps with no build up. -There is a lack of sound effects everywhere and the …

Clive 'N' Wrench is down there with Sonic Superstars and Master Detective Archives: Rain Code as the biggest disappointments I've played this year. An absolutely comical and splendid adventure paired with an incredible amount of charming themes, but unfortunately dragged down by too many small problems. Once patched, this could easily keep up with the best of the genre from indie devs. Pros Cons ✔️ Familiar-feeling old-school controls, especially if you have played other 3D platformers. ❌ Minor stuttering and inconsistent frames on a PC that exceeds recommended …

Is it unpolished? Yes. Are there bad glitches and plenty of things to be fixed? Yes. Is it a bad game? Hell no. I think, if it's fixed and polished, this deserves at least a 7.5 out of ten. Not a GREAT game but a pretty good one. The best part about the game is the movement - its smooth asf, definitely stands out among a lot of 3d platformers. The level design is kinda all over the place - some levels, or parts of …

I enjoyed quite a bit of my time in the game: For starters, it shows that the sole developer put their whole being into this game, and how passionate they are about 3D Platformers of the N64 and PS1 era. As a subscriber of Playboy for decades now, I approve of any game that has a bunny in it. I see bunny I purchase. Looks like the nesquik Bunny and curious George finally teamed up. My wife’s boyfriend says it looks like Curious George in Copyright Infringement. I was excited to play this game as I'm a major fan of the series that inspire it and I had wishlisted a while back, but unfortunately it has many issues that I can't see past. These are in no order of importance as I typed them while playing. 1. Very unusual physics. Sometimes a pot will break or other item will fall over and continue to bounce around for an inordinate amount of time, and often-times these objects will look as though they are running at a much lower frame rate. Enemies…

All I can say is that I'm really happy I got to release Clive 'N' Wrench in a time where physical games were still "a thing". It was a dream of mine since childhood to hold a game I made in my own hands... Sucks that future devs may never get that opportunity now :(

I'm honestly quite surprised about all the negativity. There was so much love put into this game, so many nods to other indie platformers (like Zera), pop culture refences... Sadly water will just tank your FPS, that's the one thing that for a few moments made this game hard to play for me. Clive 'N' Wrench is taking a ton of it's features from Spyro, Crash or even Banjo, Jak, Gex, Bugs and Taz or second Toy Story. Story is simple but it does the job. But what made me laugh were the tons and…

There is a lot of potential here but this isn't ready for consumption yet. No option to change camera sensitivity No option for mouse & keyboard. Swimming is actually horrible. Trying to climb a pole is like trying to get your congressman to fill that pothole on your street. I really wanted to like this game since it fits neatly into my favorite genre of mascot platformers - and it's really cute! But holy smokes. I can't stand how immersion-breaking this game is. The game feels so unfinished. Large objects in the level would vanish and reappear at random and enemies kept getting stuck on objects all the time. When I first encountered the "egg thief" rabbit, he was stuck running in place, caught on the edge of a rug. I would get frozen in the belly flop animation…

I love and really enjoy the moment-to-moment collection and gameplay of Clive 'n' Wrench, but there are a lot of significant issues that do leave it feeling a little lacking. It's a game that feels like it's on the cusp of being a great retro-3D platformer collectathon but is being held back by lots of little oversights and a few glaring ones. A lot more fine-tuning in some places and more variety and depth to the content that's here is what's missing from this game. It's also worth noting…

When reading the following you should keep in mind that this game was made mostly by a single Developer. Pros: - big, uniquely designed worlds - great soundtrack - fun challenges and platforming - lots of stuff to collect Cons: - nothing crazy innovative - missing out on some QOL thingies (e.g. in the menu) - lacking a bit of polish / perfection in the physics / collisions I do though know how hard the dev worked based on his shared progresses and beta builds + already saw him engage with…

It's so jank that it's not really for casual players, at all. This is only if you really like platformers and want a lot of unfairness and frustration. 1 out 25 times the controls are just not going to work how you want them to, how you expect them to. There's also animation glitches and hangups that cause issues. If you're just wanting to play through the game, it's not that bad, but this is not an easy game to 100%. It demands precision that just isn't available. In a couple sections, it's…

I want to like this game, but in it's current state it feels more like an early beta release. I've had to escape the first level via the menu twice now due to getting stuck in the 'hanging from a ledge' animation. The animations in general seem bugged out all over. Swimming up poles, t-posing out of a run, etc. The enemies may or may not die on contact, and you may or may not take damage when you hit them. The intro cut-scene plays out like a fever dream, so make sure you know the story from…

This game is overall just ok. I think with some somewhat minor changes i'd change this to a positive review I think the game lacks a lot when it comes to audio obviously we don't want a Banjo kazooie talon trot situation, but a lot of your moves and enemies just lack any audio queues at all or they are of very poor quality also the majority of the world theme songs are very repetitive and generic. Pole climbing feels really wonky & for some reason physics objects and even just animations…

I really wanted to like this game, but I can't recommend it in its current shape. Game looks terrible and runs poorly. Levels feel thrown together and there's no real rhyme or reason to the layouts it seems. Art direction isn't great. Character felt great to use mechanically but there was so much jank to the collisions / level interaction that it brought the whole thing down.

It's almost there, so very close to being an amazing collectathon. First off, some positives. It immediately caught my attention as a collectathon with a character duo, time travel plot, very retro inspired level design. Since we don't have Banjo Kazooie and Yooka Laylee is kinda "meh" it's nice to have this option. There's a neat easter egg in the tutorial which felt nice discovering, the first level was completable without feeling too easy or childish, and the variety of level themes is…

After over a decade of work, it's clear Clive ‘n’ Wrench was made by a developer who's passionate and a huge fan of the old school mascot platformers like Banjo Kazooie and Spyro the Dragon. Unfortunately, it's also clear that a lot of the game was mostly made by one guy. The animations are stiff and lack that polish, character animations become choppy if they're moving too fast, objects tend to pop in and out at a distance, and there are a handful of glitches that can pull you out of it.…

game is pretty cursed tbh. my issues are mostly with the fact that the monkey kinda looks like a baby and you shake it around an slam it into things the whole game and that makes me super uncomfortable. Not sure what they were thinking with that one, but that's an early design decision that should have been corrected. also a lot of areas and whatnot feel like gex (derogatory) with outdated references and some of it is real close to being racist if not just really mildly so, but that's what you…

As the game currently is, it feels very unpolished, with various graphical and sound problems, along with some gameplay issues like a lack of invincibility frames and a stiff camera. A hat in time is $30. Clive & Wrench can be quite fun and enjoyable. But when you set yourself with a similar tag as the king of indie 3D platformers, there is a standard of quality that has to be met. This game does not meet it. It definitely needed more time to cook. If the game simply would have been overcooked otherwise, then the game should be significantly lower in price, at most $20.

I WANT to love it, I want to enjoy it. I will try to play the game to completion because I've started it, I will not aim for 100% completion because it's agonising, but there are so many problems, getting stuck in the body slam pose and gliding through the level, clipping on random things in the environment, or even…

Clive 'N' Wrench is a quirky little time-traveling platformer with a lot of heart. It's got that classic 3D platformer feel, reminiscent of the golden age of the genre. You play as Clive, a rabbit with a literal monkey on his back named Wrench, as you journey through time to thwart the evil Dr. Daucus. The game's visuals are a mixed bag. I do not recommend Clive n wrench. If it wasn't for a stopwatch glitch I think this game can be 100%(including achievement in 9 hours). My problem with the game comes with the fact that it is not very polished, I was stuck in T poses and grip animation a couple of times(despite patches), the last world makes it a slog if you suffered a glitch as you have to go to a linear path to get to the goal you want and that just added the frustration. I really wish I could like this game and I even love many games people consider janku and even bad games, but this is too much. The Kung-Fu parody level felt so empty and repetetive, And that's basically the problem with most modern games paying homage to older games is that brevity is key. The level mentioned before would be more tolerable if it was shorter. Frankly I do even know if the tiny timepieces are needed for anything, and the jank got one of them out of bounds. Clive 'N' Wrench is a collectathon platformer in the vein of PSX-era games such as Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon. The player passes through a series of areas based on time periods, collecting stopwatches and sacred stones to unlock (respectively) regular and boss levels. Quantity over quality, a lot of level despite them feeling under baked. Pros: - Collectathon platformers are hard to come by. Cons: - Horrible hit boxes, you get hit constantly despite being the first to attack - Shortcuts unlocked, aren't permanent but only for that visit. - Some maps feel large and empty. - Buggy, glitchy platforms, animations & damage momentum boosts. - Lack of "coyote time" causing platforming to feel unfair when going even slightly fast.

There are elements of a good game here, and there are areas where there is some great attention to detail, but the base experience is more tedious than fun. Pros: Changing costumes for each world is cute and a really nice touch. When the controls work, it can feel good to speed through the levels. Verticality is dealt with really well. Some of the boss design is good. There is some real charm, with a couple of the bosses in particular…

Clive N' Wrench is a tricky one. You can tell that an absolute ton of effort and love went into making this game, Unfortunately, it comes with a LOT of flaws. The game feels a bit overstuffed with collectibles, the pacing feels pretty off, there are a lot of polish problems, and the difficulty swaps between a bit too easy, and some real tomfoolery. That said, there's a lot of charm, good bits of humor, excellent taste in references, and the whole back half feels pretty good all said and done!…

This was fun. Yes, not everything is alright with this game (please read discussion section or other reviews for that). But much is alright with this game! A quarter of a century ago Banjo-Kazooie created a desire how this particular genre of video games can and should be. The "hub" with all its unlockable interconnections and secrets, the unforgettable characters, the most beautiful level design, the variety in collectibles which all had their specific purpose, the advancement in additional…

Clive 'N' Wrench is an incredibly charming dive into the collectathon genre with some of the best and most satisfying platforming I've seen in a while. The game is packed with content and was created in its entirety by one person and plays/performs better than some of the recent titles from massive gaming companies. First off, the movement, which is by far one of the best things this game has to offer. It feels so fluid and there are always multiple ways to tackle various obstacles and you…

Ignore the nitpicks of the naysayers! This game gets an A+ for FUN! I always liked Spyro 1 the most because of the great level design and it didn't have any of those ANNOYING mini-games! If you're like me and you're looking for a casual easy breezy rollicking good time that majors on FUN, you'll find it here. Some of the bosses are annoying but watch a youtube video and you'll beat each one. Set your phasers to FUN and give this game a try! (I know I sound like a dork, but I'm just being a bit…

    - I want to like this game, I am a huge fan of this genre of game and usually don't have a high standards for these types of games, but I can't really recommend this one, maybe if it was on sale for cheap. - The controls are OK, I enjoy that you already have everything unlocked to get around and collect everything right from the beginning of the game. - The levels are too big and don't really have anything in them to explore, just random collectibles scattered throughout. The developer made…

A very fun 3D platformer with a fantastic sense of speed and movement. While it may not be the most polished game and it has its share of technical issues such as an inconsistent framerate, the world and characters have a lot of charm to them, as well as plenty of hilarious gags that hit me like a truck. Many of collectable objectives were a lot of fun and it felt very rewarding to fully complete each world. Most of the issues could be ironed out in a future update and the game as it plays now…

Clive 'n' Wrench is a monumental accomplishment and might stand as one of the most ambitious solo-dev projects of all time. While the duo setup might evoke an impression of Banjo-Kazooie or Ratchet & Clank, I'd say that Clive 'n' Wrench's identity is more closely tied to Spyro the Dragon. Levels are in semi-open worlds that have lots of nooks and crannies to explore, but also have an "intended" path that eventually leads to an exit. Big collectables are mostly found hidden in the key points of…

I did some of my own time travelling and was able to load my saved game from the beta build! Obviously I'm a huge fan of this soulfully crafted instant gaming classic - inspired by the classics which came before it - it's got everything from the references to the visual artistry, to the joyous mechanics which feel like they combine into something which is greater than the sum of its parts. You don't have to be a classic 3D platformer veteran to get sucked in by the awesome environments,…

A friend got quite the video game haul today, so I thought I should show off what I got in recent weeks, too! Treasure Planet (PS1), Rampage: World Tour (PS1), Wacky Races (Dreamcast), and one I'm the most curious about, Clive 'n' Wrench (Switch)! Not a bad haul, I dare say!

♥♥♥♥ camera, boss battles and boss battles with this camera. Level transition is a cutscene with a cutscene. Unskippable. Nancy is screaming "Clive!" constanlty in every level. Why? No reason. Game is good, but there is too much to collect, some minor bugs and no story progression. All you do is walk around and collect stuff, not much else. Collectable count bugged at 9278. You need 1980 for a "secret" level without a story and some more stuff to collect. edit save:…

Brings a lot of the energy from collectathons of old, lots of silly moments and great music, levels and bosses with a lot of simple collectables. The movement is quick and fluid and satisfying to get a solid handle on. Biggest issue with the game is some of the bugs that remain throughout, particularly with the counting of ancient coins and stopwatches.
