[1][4][5] Some players note poor UI scaling and AI issues detract from the experience. [6][7][8]

... Meh ... Take the 1997 "Close Combat : A Bridge too far" and use the engine from 2014 "Close Combat : Gateway to Caen". So what does that mean? Graphics still use a static map (no water movement, no swaying trees .... no life to the map) which you can scroll jerkily around (but no zooming in or out) and watch your ant size units slllooooooowwwllllyyyyy move around. Realistic (for your side, the AI cheats like a …

TL;DR: A fun nostalgia trip for those who enjoyed the Squad Leader board game series, or the original Close Combat games. However, it still possesses many of the same flaws from the originals with few original elements, and 40 dollars for a slight remaster of a 22 year old game is absurd. Buy it on sale. I grew up playing Close Combat: A Bridge Too Far (for brevity, CC:ABTF), and I loved it. Close Combat: Last Stand …

This is one of my favorite games of all time. This game proves that looks and fancy graphics aren't everything. The game play is immersive. This is one of the deepest RTS games of all time. It may seem slow at first, but as you play through operations and campaigns its depth really shines.

Close Combat: Last Stand Arnhem is a real time strategy game set during the Market Garden Operation during WWII. It is based on Close Combat 2: A Bridge Too Far which was originally released in 1997. This is modernized version of CC2 with improved AI pathfinding, improved graphics and effects. You can play as either the Americans or the Germans fighting in single battles, operations or a full blown grand campaign. …

They could have modernized the interface and add more graphical options etc, they just put the old game as it was and made it work on newer systems, the prices are too steep for this little improvement.

neutral · AI labelView post →Classic game and still very decent, however not worth the full asking price. Wish the devs had put more work into the remaster, some of the AI is still very questionable. Once you have worked out the angles on a map you can just lay waste to a larger enemy. To be honest with you it's about time someone built a complete new game using the close combat series as they could be onto a winner. Just modernise the graphics slightly, give a few more command options, 'canon fodder' up the units so that…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →(Note: I played a full campaign of this when it came out, which wasn't on Steam. I recently replayed it for a few hours to refresh my memory and to be able to post a review) This game is distressing. It suckers me in with nostalgia and a fantastic premise but then uses the opportunity of me getting close to sucker punch me and run off with my wallet. So Close Combat 2: A Bridge Too Far is one of my all-time favourite games. This isn't just nostalgia, either, I replayed a few missions hours…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I have been playing Close Combat games for what seems like since the 90's and it's baffling to me that the developers sell this game with not only no improvements, but with the inability to play full screen and in versions worse than the original. I am in my 50's now and I shouldn't need a magnifying glass or have to scroll around on a mini map to see the layout. It's very disappointing, because us fans (and I owned all the CC games on disks), aren't even asking for any real improvements,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →16) What would your dream Pokemon game be? Idk if you guys know that Pokemon: Close Combat is a 2D fighting fangame! It's a REALLY GOOD game that I have not truly tried myself, but I think this becomes an even better game with the right money and production! (Also I want Pokepark 3)
positive · AI labelView post →Started playing Avalon Hill Advanced Squad Leader in late 70's early 80's, so I'm an old Grognard. Have the first Close Combat game and all the other ones in the series. So my opinion may be biased. This is a slow moving, very tactical type of Infantry combat. What works in real life works in this game. You better make sure your advancing troops have an over watch and you are suppressing the enemy or you will get cut up good. The realism factor is high. A 60mm mortar or heavy MG will not take…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was a big fan of the Close Combat series back in the day but £30 for an old game is somewhat high. Unable to play the game in full screen mode which is very poor for a game costing as much as this did. All in all i would suggest avoid buying the game unless it is on sale. Very poor value.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →WHAT A TURN OF EVENTS 😲 Juan Salerno's Game 1 was looking bleak, but Sneasler came through to save the day with a critical hit Close Combat to flip the script! #PokemonVGC
neutral · AI labelView post →Close Combat: Cancer of the Eye Edition. While not a bad game itself, "Last Stand Arnhem" basically is "Close Combat 2: A Brigde too Far" with horrible UI scaling and a hefty pricetag. No improvements in terms of AI, which sadly was one of the biggest flaws of the original game. Just get that one over at GOG, if you need to be spinned back to 1997.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I had the original CCII game on CD. This game is in a category of "The game does not want you to play it." The core mechanics seem to be intact, but the German campaign has glaring issues. Two instances: One, fixed guns are universally placed in useless locations. Two, you can't ever retreat or give up premature. I know the campaign starts out with scratch German units trying to hamper the enemy. But they seem to all want to fight to the death while not fighting. So you're subjected to handling…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Terrible. I was a huge fan of the original Close Combat games, especially CC2 - A Bridge Too Far. So I was excited to see that the Arnhem campaign had been remade and re-released. Well, so much for that. It is terrible beyond description. While the strategy is pretty good, and generally better than the original CC2, the rest is horrible. The user interface is incredibly clunky and unfriendly. It's as if it was made for late-90s PCs: in trying to emulate the original CC2 they really…

neutral · AI labelView post →To say this is a disappointment is putting it lightly. I first bought A Bridge Too Far for a tenner 20 years ago. I had assumed the new £30 price tag would mean at least some upscaling of the graphics, especially in the menu or campaign screens, but apparently not. This game is exactly the same game, frame for frame, despite promises of improvements. I feel like I've been taken for a ride.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm REALLY enjoying Pokemon Close Combat. I'm starting to think that I might be as into this game as I was Them's Fightin' Herds. I haven't felt this desire to get strong at a fighting game since that one, how appropriate that I find it in another random little indie fighter!
positive · AI labelView post →Was a fan of close combat back in the 90`s , but to pay $56.00 Australian Dollars for a load of ♥♥♥♥. What a load of crap this game is, no improvements to speak of. Ant like figures. Slow as ♥♥♥♥ even playing on fast mode. Do yourself a favour and plant some grass seeds and watch them grow.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I play Pokemon Close Combat, a game in which every character has just five grounded normals, and I've heard people say "[Character] is totally carried by [lists two to three grounded normals]."
neutral · AI labelView post →I LOVED Close Combat A Bridge Too Far. However, you cannot surrender in this game, only ask for truths. It becomes nearly impossible to progress. If you lack the resources to win a battle, which is pretty common, you can't give up, instead like Sisyphus you are bound to replay the battle, again, and again. As your men's morale breaks over and over. Eventually, you are down to 1-2 squads with 1-2 men each. Once a single man dies your morale breaks.... and you get to do the battle again once the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Game is unplayable since they obviously don't give a crap about scaling it to modern screens, I've literally been through every resolution setting on the game and regardless which resolution I choose, the game remains unplayable since they have no scaling for resolution that actually works.

positive · AI labelView post →The best of the close combat re-releases so far. I cannot believe that this company has messed up this franchise so badly. The originals were awesome, the remakes are crap!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good re-issue of a CC classic. There are some decent improvements to graphics with the CC5 era engine being used to remodel the A Bridge Too Far scenario. It all adds new maps and a branching strategic map to the operation as well as many new maps and variations of older maps. I also like that they still have the building of combat teams using the buy/sell point scale for adding new units / retiring old / injured / weak units. ...I wish the newer games like Gateway To Caen and Panthers in…

The game has a really cool art style, a fan of that. And without a new Pokkén in the horizon, this might have to do to fill that void.

positive · AI labelView post →I still consider the original CC2 Bridge Too Far the ultimate, but the format is fantastic, the platform is endless, pick a theatre of the war you want to play and buy that version !!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I used to love the CC series, but this Game in 2020 is just terrible, controles sucks, zoom sucks, overview sucks. They have done NOTHING to bring this kind of game to 2020. This would be ok for about $2, but not one cent more. Very frustrating
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In the late early 2000s, I was a keen follower of Close Combat. But somehow, this line of game gets boring. Just different battleground but generally the same gameplay. Sometimes, I find it irritating that my well hidden tank or gun gets blown up so early in the game. Or my machine gun team got decimated in a 4th floor tower by the enemy infantry unit. This did not happen in the older version. It would be better if the graphics is refined. The explosion is still the same 15 years old…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played the original CC2 BTF back in the late 90's, for a few years (online TH / Cases's) with a great community (Homba - what a gentleman). It is truly wonderful to play this expanded game today, having discovered it during a recent sale. I am now having a wonderful blast with the campaign. The maps and strategic gameplay have been greatly expanded and is truly a history lesson - or maybe you can change history? I have been playing the fantastic Company of Heroes for 10 years now. This is…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I liked this game. It is probably the one that has most of the good features of the new releases of the old Close Combat Games, only missing troop carrying hability for transport-type vehicles. The battles have been fun although the maps could have been a bit smaller. All in all, I rate it 9/10
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The worst of the series and not worth the 50+ plus Aussie dollars. I have four of the Close Combat games and this is a vomit bag to play. So sad as I have fond memories of the original. The other three are games I keep coming back to this one frustrates me,
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, sadly the multiplayer that I looked forward to still as it was in the 90's... that is to say still a major hassle and mostly not working. Releasing a old game should include updating things that don't work, and calling it multiplayer is a stretch.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I absolutely love the Close Combat Series and have played almost every instance of the game, which is why this is so disappointing. This game won't even freaking launch. Every time I try to fire it up it just makes my monitors flash black and then kills my entire system. A complete waste of $40.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You done a few art pieces and even comics around them. Good representation makes a pokemon way more lovable. I started think about this more after the fan game "Pokemon Close Combat" made me love Chesnaught asthetically how they a were represented with emotion, personal fit motion, & personality.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just amazing wargame! Its a bit hard to get in it, but once you got a grip on it - its hard to let loose. It has both tactical (main thing) and operatinal (basic, but still fun and important) sides to it. It has almost same depth to it as Combat mission series of games, but because of its topdown view its much more enjoyable and less time consuming expirience, due to much less emphasis on micromanagment of your units. Also it one of the few strategy games when you recieve fire often you…
