What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 61 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (80 of 99 positive).
Players find the game entertaining and a good tactical wargame. [1][2][3] Some reviewers note the AI is easy to beat. [4][5] Several players complain about screen and full-screen issues. [1][6][7][8]

TL;DR: this feels like a half a game, compared with the original release "Invasion Normandy". I will assume in writing this review that you are familiar with the Close Combat franchise, and instead contrast this with the original game "Close Combat 5: Invasion Normandy". I give the game a Thumbs-down for reasons I will outline below. Wikipedia has this game as a "Remake of Close Combat V: Invasion Normandy". It is …

Ive just purchased this game today. I must say, i am very much so entertained by it. Would love if you things could be fixed thou. Firefights feel nice and sounds is good. 1- full screen. That would be nice. 2- Easy exit from the game. missing 3- easy options that would be able to implement without a restart. 4- zoom in and out of the map would be amazing. Few things that us now day rts gamers are spoiled with. …

Fans of close combat will enjoy this game. The fire fights are good and are at a faster pace than the newer games. However the AI is easy to beat. Motor sniping is way too effective.

With all the negative things I saw on steam comments, I was pleasantly surprised with this game. Good purchase. It runs perfectly in windows 10 and is quick to load and fun and engaging to play. Use the UI scale option to increase the lettering. It has a nice retro look. If you want to quit you just save and click the top right x to close the game. Its quick and easy to play, but the strategy can be challenging as …

If you're looking for some AH Classic Squad Leader-style wargaming then CC:TLD has your back. So far, entertaining and challenging strategy related to movement, cover, and clearing. Nothing groundbreaking, but a good, steady tactical game. Thumbs up.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Like others, I played the original Close Combat "Invasion Normandy" game and hoped that I would see improvement in this game. While there are new maps, and it does extend the campaign into the British and Canadian landings, the game is disappointing. The Grand Campaign was the worst feature, as it is impossible to beat the game due to a ridiculous mismatch of forces on the Pegasus Bridge map. You are forced to repeat the battle time after time with no hope of winning due to an abundance of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →16) What would your dream Pokemon game be? Idk if you guys know that Pokemon: Close Combat is a 2D fighting fangame! It's a REALLY GOOD game that I have not truly tried myself, but I think this becomes an even better game with the right money and production! (Also I want Pokepark 3)

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Why would they change the main menu theme, the sound of guns and the locations of campaigns? I know I can get the old version on GOG (which I already did) but why would you cut content from the old game if your new game is basically a remaster? I welcome new additions, but for a old game like this the already existed content should really be there for both nostalgia and replayability. It is already expensive enough at its full price, so please treat the old fans well, as they are basically the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm REALLY enjoying Pokemon Close Combat. I'm starting to think that I might be as into this game as I was Them's Fightin' Herds. I haven't felt this desire to get strong at a fighting game since that one, how appropriate that I find it in another random little indie fighter!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Still worth playing in 2025. The post 2008 (Matrix) remakes are better than the originals in AI, path-finding, animations, graphics and multi-layer options. they are usually better at joining the tactical and strategic maps to make the campaign flow as well. Buy them here or at Matrix whichever has a sale on (when you buy @Matrix you will will still get a STEAM key and an option for a physical disc).
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I stumbled up a Pokémon fan game last night. And no, it's not another ROM-hack, it's actually a fighting game called Close Combat. www.youtube.com/watch?v=41Zu... The game has a really cool art style, a fan of that. And without a new Pokkén in the horizon, this might have to do to fill that void.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You done a few art pieces and even comics around them. Good representation makes a pokemon way more lovable. I started think about this more after the fan game "Pokemon Close Combat" made me love Chesnaught asthetically how they a were represented with emotion, personal fit motion, & personality.
positive · AI labelView post →I love farming Staraptor players while theyre all still in the new toy syndrome phase and just spam Close Combat all game
neutral · AI labelView post →I thought first this game is unplayable with a modern computer because playing with high resolution makes units look really small, but a workaround is to set the game resolution to maximum and to decrease the monitor resolution a little bit from the one that you have normally. I used to love these games but now I am just mostly annoyed but them, many annoying things and game mechanics. Let me start: -Game can be expensive af. I have bought this and the other games in the series when they are…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The only (non-platform) fighting game ive played with 1 button that felt good so far is Pokemon Close Combat, in part because motion inputs do still exist for supers (Its also just a very simplistic game with 1 normal button 1 special and a parry button)
positive · AI labelView post →It's basically still CC: Invasion Normandy. Some changes to the Campaign map and layout were implemented. AI was likely changed, but nothing game-changing from the original. If you're familiar with the original, then the mechanics will largely be the same. The grand campaign itself (that I've played so far) has been changed up a bit. Thus far it looks like you don't have to go all the way across Normandy itself (which tbh, was usually pretty devoid of enemy units in the original anyway),…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So heads up new Pokemon fighting game is out there and its actually sick~ Pokemon Close Combat! Story modes done as well as online VS. and training for labs! Theres is also a secret boss if you clear story without losing a round which I won't spoil so have at it!
positive · AI labelView post →I think this is my 2nd favourite modern CC game after Last Stand Arnhem. The only thing which kind of sucks is the enemy AI. When playing as the Germans, the Allies get stuck on the beaches and don't know how to advance. Still a fun game though.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Best Close Combat game
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Close Combat: The Longest Day is a traditional World War II tactical wargame built around patience, positioning, and the unpredictable behavior of soldiers under fire. Developed by Strategy 3 Tactics and published by Matrix Games, it revisits the Normandy campaign with an emphasis on D-Day and the difficult fighting that followed the Allied landings. Rather than delivering the fast production cycles and enormous armies associated with conventional real-time strategy games, it places the player…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Yeah, I'm not sure who/how they've handled the port this time, but off the top of my head I'd have to go back to Close Combat for an in-house Mac port of a Microsoft game.
neutral · AI labelView post →Was PC guy when I made Arcade titles. Even had Microsoft Games title, old man war game called Close Combat III. Plus my GBA titles I made on PC. Wasnt until I wanted to make old style CRPGs on iPhone/Android (weird, I know) that I had to get a Mac. So I was forced into PC & Apple. But now I'm home.
neutral · AI labelView post →Best OG combat game ever. Never gets old, so hard to win since its real unit size and types and real time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →With everything going on I regret not knowing my great grandfather who fought in WW2 better. Pretty sure he'd be triggered and against this regime cause I know he saw friends die. The only time i saw tears in his eyes was when he watched my brother and I play a WW2 PC game called Close Combat.
neutral · AI labelView post →Been playing the Close Combat series since day one. Enjoy them all. The challenge is minimal loss, so some thought goes a long way. Not a high action response game, but entertaining and thought provoking. A good set of games overall.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its for those who like close quarters tactics game but its slow, patience is needed to play it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Classic simple tactical strategy game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Close Combat the Longest Day was always my favourite of the series and this updated version improves on the original by expanding the game to include all of D-Day. There are new maps as well as British, Canadian and French troops to control. The game is quick and easy to pick up and play but there are a lot of nuances to learn. Chances of hitting, morale and other factors are all calculated behind the orders you give. Realistic small unit tactics work. Unlike some of the more recent Close…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wish I could have better edited videos, but we do what we can. Also, Grimmsnarl lead is really cool. Potentially may have thrown the game by Nasty Plotting twice. Didn’t know how much I needed to KO Staraptor. Also didn’t know I would barely live a Close Combat. I’m still learning calcs.
