GAME BREAKING BUG . DO NOT BUY. There is a bug in this game that I found was reported as early as 2017 and has still not been solved. This makes the game impossible to play past the halfway mark. There are multiple scenes where you are in a dark room with white doors, There is some bug that keeps you from moving towards the door. I was able to do a lot of wiggling and moving backwards to get past the first two, but …

I wish I had more positive to say about the game. The atmosphere is great, the idea of it acting as a sequel of sorts to Mountains of Madness seems interesting, but the puzzle design is really what kills the game. The design feels like a first person adaptation of old school adventure games, where you need to pixel hunt to make sure you've found every item in an environment before moving on, which is made much more …

The game may tell you it's based on Lovecraft's "At the Mountains of Madness", but the game lies. While that may have inspired its setting and scenery on the surface, the core themes here drawn a near exact parallel to "From Beyond", with influences from "Shadow Out of Time" and "Whisperer in Darkness", as well as several other HPL works. Players who liked Conarium talk about great atmosphere and Lovecraftian horror; those who didn't talk about game-breaking bugs on newer PCs. Which matters more to you?

Critics, per Wikipedia

Conarium received "mixed or average" reviews, according to review aggregator Metacritic. The Telegraph praised the game for its Lovecraftian atmosphere: "It's rare to find a jaunt into the world of the Cthulhu Mythos that stays so true to the feel without retreading old ground, and for that alone, Conarium is a must-play for fans of the tentacled one and his many eldritch buddies", and awarded it four out of five stars. Polygon's Philip Kollar noted that the game "Conarium could have pushed deeper, but it stays true to the spirit of Lovecraft's work." and scored the game a 7.5 out of 10. Chris Shive of Hardcore Gamer gave the game a positive review and called attention to its soundtrack,…

I can't recommend this game, sadly. I have no idea why others have liked it, but i'd stay off on this one. Puzzles, i don't think which are very welcoming and as easy as others say, is not necessarily hard on their own, but are disconnected. In most cases, you are given an item in an irrelevant location and expected to backtrack and put that item into another irrelevant place which you might've stumbled upon before and said "What the ♥♥♥♥ is this place.". I didn't like the map design,…

Really weak boring game. 4\10. Someone may say: "this game made in classic Lovecraft style", and yes, this is a main problem for this game, it actually feels like Lovecraft himself wrote it lmao. But I think that we have to move forward and story like this could have been good a hundred years ago, but not today. So if I want something lovecraftian I would prefer games like Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, Lust from beyond, Scorn etc ost good and puzzles not bad though

I am not recommending it for the sake of being able to post this review. Part of me enjoyed it and part of me is glad it is finished. It feels like there is an enormous amount of exposition. Game was good until the well known game breaking bug in which you cannot physically move forward and have to move backward to get where you need to go. Then on the second time I had to perform this action, I could not even walk backwards to get around the bug. So I'm halfway through and cannot complete. The developer was informed of this apparently in 2017 and was provided a save game file illustrating the bug and it is now 2023 and is still not fixed. A real letdown for affected players and…

I really wanted to like this game. I was very impressed by the opening of the game--the atmosphere it set was equally alien and familiar, safe and had you feeling on edge the entire time. But it felt like the game failed to carry that through to the rest of it, where you were on the edge of your seat for a horror that would never come. The gameplay mechanics especially near the end of the game become repetitive and frustrating, it's nearly impossible to feel scared or immersed in the game as…

I will start by saying: I genuinely love Lovecraftian horror. Though this game is actually just really ♥♥♥♥, and here's why: Firstly—and I know it's a small thing—but the devs seemingly put a toddler in charge of the control scheme, where you access your items through a combination of "Space" and "C," which is just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ weird, but apparently what they went with instead of using the established "1, 2, 3, 4, 5" for items, which nearly every game uses when items are relevant. Secondly, and…

Just to play I had to search up a startup command to prevent it from crashing on startup. I had to load multiple times because I couldn't move after interacting with an object. BUYER BEWARE! Absolutely shame on the developers for not fixing this broken mess of a game and still letting people buy it. Conarium will crash constantly every couple of minutes on more modern pcs and apparently you're supposed to use certain workarounds to manage to play it, which in some cases (like mine, for example) just don't work at all. I think, it's fair tosay that this game falls into the category "Psychological horror walking simulator with puzzles" The art design is nice, the premise (being losely based on the works of H.P. Lovecraft) is interesting. Sometimes it feels a little wonky (there's a brick on the ground, have to move a little left to proceed forward). But atmosphere in general keeps you going. Tl:dr Clunky and not very engaging. - Interesting concept as it is based on the story In the Mountains of Madness by H.P. Lovecraft, just not a very engaging game story around it. - Not a big fan of the main character voice actor, the others were alright. - When crouching it somehow messes up the movement most of the time. Walking speed felt kinda slow, but hey they added running! Well only for a few seconds before your clearly asthmatic character runs out of breath. No jumping either,…

H.P. Lovecraft is very hard to read and even harder to depict in movies / games. This game right here does a very good job in bringing Lovecraftian horror to life. I liked the exploration part of the game and the visuals are mind blowing. The game is on the short side but it didn't bother me as I believe otherwise it would overstay it's welcome. Kinda confused. I wanted to enjoy this game and for a while I did until I realized a lot of the puzzles are very repetitive and if you haven't scraped every pixel of every room, you're going to find yourself lacking the solution to half of them. But even when you do have the hint necessary to solve a puzzle, sometimes the hint is just so far off and useless you still need to watch a walkthrough to find out how to solve it. The game looks really nice but there are too many instances where you…

Conarium is a Lovecraftian horror adventure that draws heavily from the mythos of H.P. Lovecraft, particularly his novella At the Mountains of Madness. Developed by Stormling Studios, the game places players in a cold, desolate Antarctic research base, weaving a story that explores themes of forbidden knowledge, cosmic dread, and the fragility of human perception. From the moment the game begins, it establishes an atmosphere of isolation and eerie tranquility, gradually unraveling into…

I admire the effort you put into these posts. Thanks for the info about the discount, I played the pirated copy and am fine with paying $3 for this now. I remember having been disappointed about the game as a terrible Lovecraft adaptation, but an ok game. If you didn't like it and want something I considered a good Lovecraft adaptation try _Conarium_.

It's basically a horror Myst-like game focusing on exploration and puzzle solving. The chase sequences were unnecessary but I liked everything else.

Summary: C+ effort. Just over the line for me to give a recommendation, mostly for the art and atmosphere. Positives: - Enjoyably atmospheric Lovecraftian walking simulator + puzzles + a few sections where you have to evade enemies. The more alien the environment, the better the game was. - Overall, relatively respectful of the Cthulhu Mythos. - Good art (did a surprisingly good job with the Elder Thing friezes described in AtMoM!). - Good sound design, serviceable soundtrack. - Voice actors…

As much as I enjoyed the first two Darkness Within games (even though the second one was a mess) from this developer, I have to say I was rather disappointed with Conarium. The game provides a lot of unique, beautiful locations but leaves so little for actual exploration. Most of the time it has a very linear level design that makes it all feel more like a walking simulator rather than an actual game. The gameplay is mostly walking and solving puzzles here and there. The puzzles were cute, but…
