Gylt is a survival horror video game developed and published by Tequila Works. It was released on November 19, 2019 for Google Stadia. It was notable for being one of the few Stadia-exclusive titles, causing it to be temporarily unavailable for sale upon that platform's shutdown in 2023. It was released for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on July 6, 2023. From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 172 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Overwhelmingly Positive (1,237 of 1,302 positive).
Players praise the game's atmosphere, art style, and emotional story about bullying and childhood trauma. [1][2][3] Many find the horror elements mild and the stealth gameplay repetitive, comparing it to a beginner's horror game. [1][4][5] Some reviewers criticize the story's execution and writing as amateurish or preachy. [6][7][8]

I don't get it why the game is called "GYLT", but then there is no real exploration of guilt. Yes, Sally, our protagonist, is supposed to feel guilty, because her younger cousin Emily was bullied, and Sally, at least, did not try to stop it. There was even one instance, which can be seen as Sally bullying Emily herself. Not really, but she still was not nice, and the context makes the situation worse. Problem is, …

if it was possible i would give this game a neutral review instead of positive or negative... even tho i liked the atmosphere and the cute graphics, the gameplay left a lot to be desired in my opinion. its supposed to focus on horror and stealth, but the game isnt scary at all. the cute graphics definitely contribute to that, and not even the creatures or monsters are frightening, theres just no way to feel scared …

A great game that had the misfortune of originally being one of the five Stadia exclusives. Sadly it did not just cause the game not being successful but it also ended up with the studio closing down. It is a fantastic horror game where you play as Sally who ends up in a nightmare version of her town, trying to find her cousin. The gameplay consists of sneaking around, trying to avoid enemies. Fighting them if …

GYLT is a survival horror game developed by Tequila Works that explores themes of bullying and childhood trauma through a "delicate psychological horror" lens. Are you ready for this? Gamers will play as Sally, or I'd rather say guiding her throughout the game. She is a young girl searching for her missing cousin, Emily, in the fictional mining town of Bethelwood, Maine. After being chased by local bullies, …

7/10 Great atmosphere and game-play. Terrible story. The graphics are the perfect mix of cute and creepy, the controls feel good, and the puzzles, while not particularly difficult, are varied and engaging. The story, sadly, doesn't live up to the rest of the production. The premise is absurd, its execution poor, and the writing is gratingly amateurish. Never mind that the devs don't seem to know the difference …
Summarised from 34 of the 262 public posts collected about this game; every point cites the posts behind it ([n] opens the post) and the split is counted from the posts’ own ratings. Updated Oct 12, 2026. How summaries are made
92% of the 172 Steam reviewers we collected recommend GYLT. The complaint that keeps coming up: not scary; horror is too mild. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
The game received an aggregate score of 68/100 on Metacritic, indicating "mixed or average" reviews. Chris Carter of Destructoid rated the game 7/10 points, calling it short, but mostly engaging. He called the story a "slow burn", while comparing the stealth mechanic to Metal Gear Solid, and remarked that using the flashlight as a weapon was a "cool" way to avoid using guns. Chris Shive of Hardcore Gamer rated the game 3/5 points, calling it an "enjoyable" game with a "Silent Hill vibe", but not a killer app. He praised the "cartoonish" character designs and "unnerving" soundtrack. Vikki Blake of Eurogamer called the game surprisingly scary for something she initially thought was made for…

neutral · AI labelView post →The best indie game I've played this year is Gylt. A cutesy horror kind of thing. Don't see it mentioned much. The art style is gorgeous although what really hooked me was how dark and spooky it gets. Gave me the occasional goosebump or two! A great easy going stealthy puzzler.

The only thing I don’t really like is the fact that you need to find all collectibles (quartz/inhabitants/diaries/canaries) in order to get the good ending. I really don’t like to get bad endings in games, so I had to play with a guide by my side in order to make sure I wasn’t leaving any hidden quartz behind, and I would definitely have lost some of…

neutral · AI labelView post →A friend bought this game for me for Christmas since it was on my wishlist, and I was expecting something cozy-horror—which it definitely was 😭 but maybe because I’m still a beginner gamer, it lowkey stressed me out. The anxiety was REAL. Sally has asthma, so inhalers are basically her life source, and her stamina is sooo low. Inhalers and batteries are super limited and don’t respawn, so you really have to be smart about when to use them and remember where you leave things in case you need…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fully enjoyed this game, very beginner friendly when it comes to combat, puzzles and cozy horror in general. Loved the Silent Hill esque environment, the story reminded me of the horror movies Mara and The Babadook, where mental health struggles manifest themselves into an entity and attempt to swallow us whole. Would love a sequel.

neutral · AI labelView post →GYLT may be short and its gameplay simple, but it leaves a mark — not on your reflexes, but on your thoughts. A quiet, melancholy journey that reminds us: sometimes, the scariest monsters are the ones we carry inside.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →GYLT is a charming horror-coated adventure game with a big emphasis on stealth and puzzles. While the gameplay can get a bit repetitive towards the end, the game is fairly short and doesn't overstay it's welcome. The incredible art direction sets the game apart, and a story that can be appreciated by people of all ages - sad to see Tequila Works gone!

positive · AI labelView post →Very fun! A pleasant little romp of horror and bonding, in an action adventure setpiece. Ostensibly, this is like a youthful version of Silent Hill. Main girl lost her cousin, who disappeared. This caused a lot of turmoil and strife in main girl's life, and she's made it her life mission to find out what happened to her young cousin. By happenstance, she ends up on a fated voyage upon a tram car, which leads her to an otherwordly, dreaded version of her small town. She'll have to dodge icky…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The same exact quirk chungus indie game slop with reddit writing that I've seen a million times already, there's no point to engage with the environment and explore, the gameplay loop is worthless, the setting is ALL IN LE HEAD as usual and you have to actively LARP that the basic and boring enemy NPC's are scary in order to MAYBE have some amount of fun. I don't think I'll launch this game again after my first 1.5 hour session. Some of the plot points are about bullying - which is yeah,…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →GYLT delivers a memorable blend of psychological horror and narrative adventure by placing emotional storytelling at the center of its experience. Her journey into a twisted version of her hometown transforms everyday locations into surreal nightmares where…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is entertaining, I liked it but some parts of the story pmo so bad because why is Sally being blamed for everything although she was a child too. I hated how every time we finally find Emily [AND HELP HER] she just runs off and dismisses Sally like that, like I know she's hurt but this literally is not the time to be a brat.. And why is the grandpa this harsh on Sally as if it was all her fault and she owes it to Emily to sacrifice herself and stay in that world like wth? SHE IS NOT…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game has a great visual style, each location is unique and twisted by otherworldly forces to match the theme. The city at the end of the game, which is buried in a mountain, is especially successful. Also worth noting is the last moment when a huge monster is chasing Sally and Emily, and the camera through which we are watching the characters moves into its mouth. The last time I saw something like this was in Rayman 2. The gameplay is simple, and can be described as a walking…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gylt is a great game for fans of stealth horror and scratches the itch for anyone waiting on the Little Nightmares sequel. It's very short [4-6 hours] and the gameplay is simple, but I appreciated the story it wanted to tell and Tim Burton inspired artistic design. Gylt has a low asking price to enjoy, so it's definitely worth playing if you're a fan of the genre.

And then it happened — GYLT came to Steam. What can I say? I am not disappointed. Alan Wake for kids is exactly what I expected. There are no big revelations in the story. It is trivial but still interesting. As a horror game, not scary at all. I would call it an adventure game. And all the warnings in the opening credits just highlight that school…

I was wrong. It’s actually pretty deep. The story follows a young girl named Sally looking for her cousin. But the real core here is the theme of bullying. As a dad with kids in school, this subject always worries me, and the game portrays it in a way that feels very real and heartbreaking. The monsters arent just random scares; they…
