Developer Remedy Entertainment
Control is a 2019 action-adventure game developed by Remedy Entertainment. It follows Jesse Faden, the new Director of the Federal Bureau of Control (FBC), a secret U.S. government agency that investigates and contains phenomena that violate the normal laws of reality. As Jesse, the player explores the Oldest House–the FBC's headquarters–and uses paranormal abilities and a shapeshifting gun known as the "Service… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

Was enjoying this game until I found out the hard way it doesn't work if your internet goes out... An OFFLINE SINGLEPLAYER GAME breaks if you can't go online Half the reason I bought this game is because I thought I would be able to play offline when the internet is out or there are CloudFare issues with other games etc Wish I had known before so I could refund it

Control is a stylish, atmospheric game with strong visuals, great sound and a mysterious story that rewards careful observation. Combat feels really good, though it can be repetitive and somewhat hard at times. The game tells much of its story through documents, audio logs, the environment and subtle visual storytelling, with plenty of surprising “WTF” moments in a good way. 🎚️ Difficulty 🔲 My grandma could play …

If you’ve ever spent hours falling down the rabbit hole of the SCP Foundation wiki, you’ll immediately recognize the DNA of Control. While you aren't exactly a field agent out in the world tracking down new anomalies, you are the newly appointed Director dropped right into the middle of a massive containment breach. The game perfectly captures that specific "Containment Site" aesthetic. The Oldest House is a …

Let me start off by saying that this is not a bad game but I had higher expectations. Easily the most frustrating part is the confusing level design, I was constantly lost trying to navigated the labyrinth of a map. I know it's not a piece of cake to make a map legend for multiple stories but it could've been done better for sure, whoever was in charge of this should be fired. Same goes for some of the quest …

Control is one of those games that definitely isn't for everyone. Most people will probably bounce off it within the first couple of hours: vague storytelling, an abstract choice of words and themes, a very confusing setting, and the list of reasons to quit Control can continue on endlessly. But I stuck with it, and even 100%-ed this title. My thoughts and feelings regarding this game are… mixed, if I am being …

88% of the 289 Steam reviewers we collected recommend CONTROL Ultimate Edition. The complaint that keeps coming up: combat can become repetitive over time. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
According to review aggregator website Metacritic, Control received "generally favorable" reviews from critics for most platforms, except for the Nintendo Switch version, which received "mixed or average" reviews. Ben Reeves from Game Informer described Control's setting as "bizarrely fascinating" and an "eerie, dreamlike experience" players will remember even after finishing the game. Andrew Webster from The Verge similarly lauded the game's unsettling atmosphere, writing the Oldest House feels both surreal and authentic, and commended Remedy's world-building. Peter Brown from GameSpot praised the game's art direction, writing it instills a sense of dread and awe. Sam Loveridge from…

THAT'S WHY I AM BETTING IT ALL ON CONTROL RESONANT BABY, THAT ONE WILL FOR SURE FIX ALL THE ISSUES WOOOO! After 36 hours of reading censored bureaucratic documents, I think Control warrants a review. Control is Remedy's sixth game, if you count those that actually matter, and you can tell it all really started to click by now. After all, this is the game that *officially* started the Remedy Connected…

I first played it back in 2019 on Xbox One S, then again on PS4 and PS5, unlocking every achievement and trophy. Recently, I played it once more on Steam, putting in33 more hours to complete every achievement again. What changed most wasn't the game—it was me. Back then I just enjoyed the gameplay and atmosphere. Now, as an architect, I was amazed by the architectural quality in every environment. The level design…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I never played this game when it first came out, but when I saw it on Steam for sale, I was like, why not give it a try. At first, I found the game a little boring, but after continuing to play, the story actually became pretty interesting. The combat and fights are really good, and the graphics are great too. Overall, I enjoyed the game, but the ending was disappointing for me. 7/10

positive · AI labelView post →Put a solid chunk of time into this n cleared the full run, but I still can’t honestly recommend Control. The game packs tons of deep-cut lore n really cool hidden side plots, but the fragmented storytelling’s so hard to follow that u’ll still have no clue what just happened even after beating it. What ruins the vibe most for me is how bad the quest map navigation is. Levels stretch across multiple stacked floors, yet the map only slaps down one flat marker per objective, so getting lost is…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolutely incredible and well-made game. Everything about it just clicks: gunplay, telekinesis, levitation, and all the other powers feel fantastic. And don’t even get me started on the RCU lore. I was invested in the story and all the wacky stuff going on around me 100% of the time, and I had a blast reading absolutely every collectible I came across. Control definitely has some flaws, but I’m willing to overlook them since I had so much fun playing it that I don’t really care about them.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →this game is absolutely incredible and one of the most unique action-adventure experiences i’ve ever played. from the very first moments, control grabs your attention with its mysterious atmosphere, strange events and fascinating world-building. the entire game takes place inside the oldest house, a location that constantly shifts, changes and hides secrets around every corner. it creates a feeling of exploration unlike almost anything else, where every new room feels like stepping deeper into…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice game. But after 10 hours of gameplay, you persist more for the well-written story and sci-fi aesthetic than for the extremely repetitive combat, generic progression, and unrewarding exploration. After finishing it, I felt very little desire to try the DLCs. Some achievements were bugged and didn't unlock.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Control: Ultimate Edition honestly surprised me with how quickly it grabbed my attention. You play as Jesse Faden, who arrives at the Federal Bureau of Control looking for answers about her brother. Within minutes you are thrown into a strange situation inside a building that seems to have a mind of its own. Half the time you’re not even sure what is real, but it works in a way that keeps you curious. The story is genuinely interesting and it constantly pushes you to find out more. What I…

Control represented a bit of a milestone for my gaming journey. I first played the game in 2019, back when it was only available on the Epic Games Store. It was also the same year I built my first Desktop PC, which housed my first "real" GPU, the Nvidia RTX 2080Ti. This game came bundled with that graphics card for free as a part of a sale deal I took back then. Once my then new PC…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, combat might get bit repetitive, if you are doing base game + dlcs, while licking walls. The atmosphere and lore is 10/10, for annyone into SCP or The X-Files, a definite must play for all willing to learn more about Remedyverse. I'd say it's worth at full price, on discout it's basically a steal.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Control starts slow and early combat is not very engaging instead focusing on story and the Oldest House setting. However once you have your abilities and the areas start to open up the combat flow starts to come out and it is super fun. Just wish it got there sooner.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is my what, third Control copy after EGS and PS4? So I'm a little bit biased. That being said, it's still Remedy's most coherent game to date, where weird stuff is perfectly supported by the strong and unique gameplay loop. Control is also artistically brilliant and coherent and looks great even after all these years. Plus, it's basically an SCP fanfic made with an AAA budget. DLCs are too formulaic in gameplay department to my taste, but AWE is a nice narrative bridge to AW 2 and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fantastic game, and I'm only mad at myself for not playing it sooner. A worthwhile single player experience that is sorely lacking in games now. Gameplay and physics were very fun; environment is a beautiful Madhatter experience of a psychedelic concrete jungle office; world lore offered in collectible documents, audio clips, and videos are actually intriguing to follow; and the writing/storytelling method is top notch. Control shook me out of a fog and made me realize just how overlooked or…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gameplay is fun and while plot leaves you with as many questions left as when you started, it's good to know that throwing furniture is a working answer to any supernatural threrat.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game made me say "WTF?" so many times (but in a good way, I swear.) It took me a hot minute to get used to the mechanics and I died... a lot. It's neat that there are optional bosses (thank god for that because I'm terrible and I really don't wanna bring my blood pressure up enjoying a game.) I'm still very confused about some parts of the plot... or maybe I wasn't paying enough attention. It's interesting, to say the least. (Did anyone else get some SCPs vibes when they encountered an…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'd really like to love CONTROL. The vibes are immaculate but the game play tilts into tedium when you're re-entering a room and have to fight through the same enemies you've already beat, probably multiple times. The moment to moment shooting is fine but not rewarding enough to slog through what the game asks you to. There's some solid bones for a third-person action game here but CONTROL is far too threadbare for me.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game took me 6 years to finish. But this time I saw it through. Control is weird. 6 years... so I played bits of the game on several builds. 2080ti at launch, then a 3090 then a 4090, and now on a 5090. The game always ran very smooth in either of them. Control is a great game with amazing visuals, fun combat, and a really strange story. The gameplay is addictive, but the story gets so weird that I honestly have no idea what the devs were smoking when they wrote it. I imagine this is…

This game has sentimental value to me since it was the first AAA game I was able to play on my first gaming laptop, but I’ll try not to be biased. This game is incredible! The combat mechanics are some of the most fun I’ve had in any video game. The story was interesting enough, although it’s not the game’s greatest strength, in my opinion. I think the atmosphere and…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →World building? 10/10, the game built around it? meh. Atmosphere, art direction, and worlding building are beautiful done, it feels very special when doing that; combat starts off strong, but there is only so much fun to be had hurling concrete at mindless enemies. Gunplay feels like an afterthought, felt like it was just there to drain a meter between telekinesis cooldowns rather than offering anything of substance and story is criminally underwhelming for the world it is set in. Get it for…

neutral · AI labelView post →Control is a weird game. It is trying at all times to be a modern art experiment, a competent shooter, a good SCP story, and even a small percentage of RPG and Metroidvania, all at the same time. It frequently stumbles awkwardly along the way, but in the end it proves itself as a worthwhile experience. Everything regarding the art direction is perfect, and the strongest point of the game. I finished Control because my friend kept telling me "it all makes sense if you pay attention" and the story is amazing once you understand it. Well, I read the documents, listened to the recordings, completed the side content, and by the end I understood what was happening. The problem is that understanding it didn't make it any better. The early hours are quite slow, and the story, while intriguing, doesn’t fully deliver on its potential in my opinion. Puzzles and quests don't hold your hands like other games of this type of games, which is really fun and innovative. The gameplay makes you feel like you have total control as a almost godlike entity in charge of her world. After I played the original Alan Wake a while ago, since this game ties up to that one through AWE expansion, I didn't like very much this whole new universe that Remedy was trying to push at the time.
