Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 176 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (5,394 of 5,720 positive).
Players describe it as a stressful, fast-paced typing game that simulates working in a busy kitchen. [1][2][3] Many find it challenging yet satisfying, with a good learning curve and addictive gameplay. [4][5][6] Some reviewers criticize it for being repetitive and not a traditional cooking game. [7][8][9]

typing game disguised as a cooking game. I went in and purchased the bundle expecting something like Delicious Emily's or Diner Dash... and I was quite disappointed. I gave it a try, but this just isn't it for me.

Eleven years after its release, Cook Serve Delicious! is still the flagship of stressful restaurant-themed single-player time management games. Where Overcooked makes you hate your friends, CSD makes you hate your life. You take over a zero-star café in Sherrisoda Tower, and make the tactical mistake of opening for customers. As the only cook and janitor, you spend long shifts juggling chores and making orders to …

Challenging, stressful and absolutely satisfying and entertaining. The fact that it can be played solely with the keyboard only makes it all the more easy to get absorbed and keep playing.

A stressful combination of reading comprehension, typing dexterity, memorization, muscle memory, time management and juggling. Receive orders, press the prompts in the right order, do it fast, but not fast enough to mess up something. Keep the perfect combo going, remember to do the dishes, take out the trash, kill the rats, and pour the beer. Remember, hiring a cashier, more cooks or someone to clean around is the …

Critics, per Wikipedia
Mal Scott of The Stereogram was very positive about the game, commenting that despite the game being reasonably basic, it was "much, much more than the sum of its parts." Scott also commented that the game was difficult, dubbing it the "Dark Souls of cooking games". Matt Porter of Hooked Gamers gave the game a 7.4 out of 10 rating, commenting that the game is 'surprisingly difficult at times', and that it 'has a lot of charm', but also called the game 'repetitive'. Touch Arcade's Jon Polson gave the iPad version four and a half stars, but did not think the simplified controls made the game better. NO, I want to watch pieces of chicken slowly turn opaque in boiling water!!!!

positive · AI labelView post →It was indeed inspired by other popular cooking games like Overcooked!, PlateUp! or Cook, Serve, Delicious!, but we designed it to be more flexible. For instance, we have a very simple tile based map format and we eventually want to add a map editor which would allow anyone to design and share their own maps.

I mean, I'm obsessed with both, but god damn, I'm really out here type-cooking food more than I am fighting monsters.

positive · AI labelView post →It's fun and challenging and has a good learning curve. Only downside to this game is you might build up the muscle memory to get far in the game, take a short break to play another game, come back, and it's ALL GONE, so you have to start from scratch. Due to that last part, I couldn't finish it, but it was fun while I played.

Definitely not a relaxing game, but it's easy to jump in and out of since it's so simple mechanically. There's a little bit of a grind and I kind of wish there was more foods unlocked for 4 and 5 star restaurants, but there's no lack of content and fun value in the game as-is. Highly recommend!

In Cook, Serve, Delicious! you play as a restaurateur, opening your little cookhouse and hoping to reel in enough customers and cash to upgrade your tiny place into a 5-star world-renowned eatery. positive · AI labelView post →Played this game years ago and decided to come back to it a few weeks ago. It still holds up and it is for sure the best Cook Serve game to start off with. It can get a bit repetitive, but it's different from other cooking games and honestly a step up in the genre. A lot of typing is required if you use keyboard controls, but it adds to the challenge and you might even improve at typing speed a little!

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cook, Serve, Delicious! in one word: FAAASTERRR This game is full of keyboard action and plays a lot like those niche typing games. But instead of reading and typing words, you're reading dish orders and inputting corresponding hotkeys at blistering pace and superb accuracy. And yes, you can customize hotkeys for all the dishes, which is pretty sweet. However, there are some notable limitations: the key to serve a dish has to be Enter, and you can only use letters, so [];',. etc. aren't…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My wife played this game almost every evening for quite a while, while I mostly sat there watching her play. The gameplay itself is pretty simple in principle — basically, you press the right buttons to add the required ingredients and complete the recipes. That said, especially in the later levels, things can get extremely stressful and sometimes downright frustrating. My wife needed a bit of extra help here and there to keep from losing her mind, but she still had a lot of fun with it.…
