[4][5][6] Some players criticize the controls as unintuitive and the game as poorly optimized. [7][8][9]

This is a cooking simulator game made by people who do not know how to cook. Procedures are wrong all across the board, basic seasoning and cooking techniques aren't possible, and you can only create abominations.

I bought this game thinking I was going to be the next Gordon Ramsay. Instead, I accidentally created a particle accelerator in a 700-watt microwave because I left a stray fork on a ceramic plate. My kitchen is now legally classified as a sovereign nuclear state. Finally, a cooking game where my greatest enemy is physics. Burned steaks, flying knives, soup explosions—yet somehow the dish still slapped. Career mode made me a chef, Sandbox made me a menace. 80+ recipes, 140 ingredients, infinite kitchen chaos. Gordon Ramsay would scream. I applaud. This game is amazing to play. HOWEVER, This game is extremely buggy, and a lot of bugs have been around for years, the biggest one I've noticed is sometimes if you place an item down, it might clip through the surface and can also sometimes no longer let you interact with anything, requiring you to restart the game which is a nightmare if you haven't saved it as you also can't use the ESC pause menu when it's …

I downloaded Cooking Simulator thinking I’d casually fry some eggs. Big mistake. This game is basically a physics-based kitchen chaos simulator disguised as a “fun cooking game.” You’ll start by chopping onions and end up questioning why the tomato you just threw across the room exploded like a grenade. The stove is your battlefield, the pots are your weapons, and somehow… a carrot can ruin your entire dinner. The …

Players who liked Cooking Simulator talk about fun physics-based chaos and sandbox mode; those who didn't talk about frequent bugs that require restarting the game. Which matters more to you?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Due to its initial flaws, Cooking Simulator received mixed reviews from review outlets. It scored 64/100 on Metacritic based on 4 reviews. PC Games appreciated the game's graphics, various recipes while pointing out difficult controls, unengaging career mode and performance issues. GameStar pointed out unlockable recipes and perks, tutorial, dish review system and a small number of ingredients, recipes and utensils as pros. The cons included difficult controls, repetitiveness, lack of difficulty levels, physics bugs and no replay value in career mode. In their review, Screen Rant stated that the game's challenging timing and controls were fun in short sessions and frustrating in the long…

positive · AI labelView post →This is one of those games where all the fun content is paywalled behind DLCs that cost more than the game itself all together. All the add-on foods could've just been in the game itself, but they chose to make 6 different DLCs for basic food items to extract as much money as possible. The game itself is not fun enough to make purchasing all the DLC worth it. I could use that money to buy so much better games. Luckily I didn't buy this for full price, but I still regret my purchase.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its nice and all, and a sorta great game, but its got a very persistent bugs, where if an item you're holding drops on the ground, or clips through something, it'll drop it but the game still thinks you're holding it so you cant click on anything, or drop it or even pick up the item the game thinks you're still holding, hell you cant even press esc to go back to menu, you have to completely exit out of the game and relaunch it, which is really annoying because you have to restart on the last…

positive · AI labelView post →Holy God. What a piece of ♥♥♥♥ example of entertainment software. The game hasn’t even started yet. Telemetrics consent? Who cares? You’re probably just gonna do what you want to anyways. Why wouldn’t you? So just ask the player for permission later, if not never, ffs. Go away already. The game hasn’t even started yet. Wait, where’d my game go? A store page? For Cooking Simulator 2? With Mixed reviews? Who cares? Was buying Cooking Simulator 1 not enough for you people? Am I allowed to play…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game’s mechanics are downright terrible, dragging down what could have been an enjoyable experience. I’d seen several negative reviews mentioning this issue, but with so many positive ratings, I thought I’d give it a fair try. Unfortunately, those criticisms weren’t just accurate—they were an understatement. The controls are painfully unintuitive and needlessly overcomplicated, turning basic actions into chores. The game isn’t entirely unplayable, but it comes dangerously close.

neutral · AI labelView post →It is an amazing game for those that like cooking or people like Josh (if you know you know) that just want every customer to suffer. I would recommend that you get one or more of the DLC's to make the game more expansive and fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Went through the tutorial until the blending step. The tutorial didn't register that I had already blended the soup but possibly because I didn't turn off the burner before transferring the contents to the blender and doing it after the fact wasn't good enough. Then finished the recipe in spite of the tutorial being stuck but was not allowed to serve the food. If I'm in the tutorial and already getting stuck I think I'm good on this game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What have you done to the controls???? Theres no setting to remap the right joystick, it is bugged out and the game ignores any attempt to remap with steam input No longer playable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →honestly got the game because ive been dreaming about it since letsgameitout made a video in 2019, ive loved the game ever since and the actual experience dosent dissapoint, theres so much tomfoolery and ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ you can do in the kitchen its unimaginable, the physics are great and i love this game, if ur planning on getting it GET IT AND PLAY SANDBOX MODE ONLY
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cooking Simulator, as you'd expect, is a cooking game! Besides the base game, there are DLCs to make pizzas, bunker food, cakes and cookies, and abject chaos. #cookingsimulator #cooking #bigcheesestudio #food #indiegames #gaming
neutral · AI labelView post →Its a very fun game, you can use recipes or do whatever the heck you want-however it does get extremely frustrating. And I understand that its sort of supposed to be hard to hold or pour things, but I also know that the game's purpose for that is to get people to keep trying so they play longer-but intstead I quit playing
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I found that the secret to being really good, really quickly is to just set your custom menu to soups - make the soups, keep them to the side, get an order, plate it, reheat it in the microwave (high; 30sec), and serve. Perfect scores every time.... assuming you didn't screw up making the soup in the first place.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cooking Simulator is the game that lets me pretend I know what I am doing in a kitchen while actively creating crimes against food. It sounds simple: cook dishes, follow recipes, prep ingredients, plate things nicely, and run a kitchen like a functional adult. In reality, it becomes a beautiful disaster of spilled soup, flying vegetables, questionable timing, and me trying to convince myself that the steak landing on the floor was part of the process. The best part is how hands-on…

positive · AI labelView post →I think this game probably suits a very specific kind of player, of which I am one. You know who you are. I was initially worried it might be a bit resource-intensive for my PC but it runs perfectly. The only thing I dislike is not being able to cut accurately with the knife. I would so love to cut a nice thin slice of lemon for my seared tuna, but in my restaurant everything is DICED CHUNKY to precise weight specification using the handy cutting machine. Even the cheese on the hamburger is…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →loved the game before they make the game unplayable with poor optimisation. knew the game with far lower recommended specs.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →its fun but really buggy and also runs kinda badly. Even at ultra graphics, it looks terrible for some reason and also isn't optimised like at ALL. Gonna refund, but if u can look past the bugs and bad graphics definitely worth playing, esp on sale.

neutral · AI labelView post →I've been waiting for a great sale to get this game, and I'm so glad I did because if I had wasted a bunch of money, I would be pretty mad right now. Got thru the first tutorial, was enjoying it, then got stuck on blending the tomato soup in the second tutorial, like, literally still in the tutorial, and I'm having problems. The stupid blender won't connect with the soup. That's it. I can't blend soup if the blender doesn't touch the soup, and I can't get past this part of the game if I can't…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The AI art for the new dlc's they pump out for this game should summarize it enough. This game is pretty terrible and the tutorial is just awful. STAY CLEAR!!!!
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is so hyper realistic at simulating cooking that when I crack an egg on my pc it burns to crisp immediately
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I copped this game and all of it's DLCs while they were on sale for about 75% off (so a pretty good deal) but for some reason, when I started up the game in Sandbox mode, the tablet or "cooking menu" which you normally access in this game in order to pick recipes to cook, did not respond when I tried to open it. So I thought nothing of it and decided to re-install the game after seemingly no luck of fixing the issue in-game but when I re-installed the game and tried to run it again, for some…

positive · AI labelView post →Game has good qualities. HOWEVER, suffers from chronic unread-ability by way of "The tutorial is coded to carry on without you" And pressing "next text" can STACK if you press it within the same couple of seconds as the games' code. I mean, IT'S A TUTORIAL, MY tutorial, why are YOU the one RUSHING? This needs fixing yesterday, shouldn't be moving onto the next game if it's unfinished I'll recommend the game if the tutorial becomes up to scratch. Also there are symbols "III" (but not just…

I'll mess up all the settings, nothing will go right, each customer will leave without eating, I'll always get terrible rating -- then I'll rage quit and probably would blame the game and give it a negetive review.. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →On itself a good base idea for a game, but the bugs ruin the career mode entirely. I tried a lot of times untill I settled for only sandbox. And that gets boring very easily. Besides the options on where to place the food on the plate are awful, since you can only throw it into the middle, wether you want it or not. Additionaly, The customers are SOO picky. Like there can't be a ml of milk too much or too little, otherwise you immediately lose half a star. That's insane for a game with so many…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I guess there is a first time for everything, and that first time to write a negative review has finally come. I played other simulator games and they were more or less fun, I have 100 hours on some of them, but Cooking Simulator is not and will not be one of them. The controls are clunky, glitchy and unplayable, getting anything done is infuriating and demotivating. Cooking in real life is much less stressful and much less annoying as it is in this game. I wouldn't recommend it nor play it…

Walking is really erratic and aiming to click on ingredients is a nightmare. Ok maybe it gets better. When plating the salmon in the tutorial, the plate spasms like a Garry's Mod asset and flings across the room at 100kmph, smashing plate everywhere. Ok that was pretty funny, but now I have to carefully aim to pick up shards of glass which isn't funny. Ok…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Terrible frame rate, even on the lowest settings. The wider resolutions, despite being natively in the settings menu, break the UI, making it literally impossible to start a game.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Lots of depth but the controls for things such as chopping or the absolute tedious nature of almost everything you do takes away from the experience of cooking. Maybe I need more time but a lot of the stuff felt really awkward to do or if you're a perfectionist you're going to hate this game. Like why can't I move the lemon slices WHILE I'm cutting them like in real life??? No I have to put the knife down, pick up the lopsided lemon slice press shift then play twister with my keyboard. How are…
