Players praise the beautiful visuals and cute creatures, but many find the gameplay repetitive. [1][2][3] The story is described as moving by some, while others feel it undermines the game's premise. [4][5][6]

Pros: - This is a gorgeous game with beautiful creature designs. - You can pet all of them. This is a very strong selling point. - The music was lovely. - When the emotional moments land, they really land. I truly did come to love the Naam -- a sort of cross between Gorons and owls -- and their beautiful world, and I'd be lying if I said the ending didn't get to me. Cons: - Combat's irritating, maps are irritating, …

I don't know what to think about this game. On one hand, I enjoyed exploring the vibrant world and rescuing all kinds of creatures. On the other, the combat is quite shallow as it comes down to mainly holding left mouse button, occasionally dodging and using spells. For whatever reason, you can't revisit biomes. So if you miss something, too bad. Be sure to make a lot of saves just in case. I found the story to be …

Creatures of Ava is everything I ever wanted in a game: an open world creature collector that doesn't involve fighting. The controls were easy to get used to on the steam deck, and the graphics can be adjusted for performance or visual quality. Regardless of the setting, though, it's a visually stunning game. I love the colourful creatures and the musical aspect of taming. Now, the game does take a refreshing stance …

Such a beautiful game, both in terms of the visuals and the moving plotline. This game was like a book I couldn't put down. A really well-balanced mix of wholesome and uplifting, and heartfelt and sad in a meaningful way that gave it a lot of depth. I felt the age-range was roughly YA and up? It felt quite young-person friendly and *sometimes* felt it was pitched quite young (no bad thing), but had themes that are …

Personally I found that after a few hours it was getting repetitive -- the central concept is just solve some puzzles using creature abilities and rescue a number of those creatures. Once I cleared the first area they introduced me to some new creatures inhabiting a new region and it was rinse and repeat -- so I gave up at that point. The landscapes are quite beautiful though, the creatures are cute, and there's a …

neutral · AI labelView post →I didn't get very far and while the art is nice and the vibe is pretty relaxing, there is a fundamental flaw in the game. There's a mechanic of sending creatures away from an area and once you do, they don't return. The problem arises when you need the creatures to get to certain areas that you didn't notice and can no longer access since they were sent away. The devs have said that the save feature is a fix for this but unfortunately I realized this too late and just wasn't that drawn to the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm sorry. This game is beautiful, the soundtrack's really nice, but there were simply too many design choices I could not get behind. The creature designs are great and yet we barely interact with them other than use them to solve a handful of puzzles or find loot we could have crafted anyway. The story leaves me feeling disappointed, wanting more, as it feels like all our efforts were for nothing. I don't like that some rescue bots immediately respawn after completing them, leaving you to…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I submitted a ticket because I had issues with completing my Avapedia or the all creature achievement and refused to spend 20 more hours on what was a very preventable issue. I couldn't complete it because 1. Tehra'ba has exactly one chance to appear healthy for photos, that doesn't involve cutscenes. It supposedly shows up once you travel to the first biome, and signals it by roaring. I am deaf, and there are no captions for this, so I was unaware that I had no more opportunities to photograph…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I actually love games like this—exploring a new world and working toward small goals, kind of like Pokémon Legends: Arceus. But in games like these, the goals need to feel meaningful and fair. The story completely undermines everything you do. The whole point is to heal creatures and send them somewhere safe to protect them from a virus… and then at the end you basically bring them back, stop trying to save them, and the virus ends up destroying the planet anyway. It made the entire…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game feels very bare bones: capture creatures, use them to unlock some items. Go from point a to point b. Very stale. The creativity with the creatures is nice, but I planned it for a chunk and don't think I'll return unless I have absolutely nothing else.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game has a charming concept and a nice script! But the gameplay is as bland as can be. Everything about the gameplay is super rote and meaningless! You got a new spell to slow down time on stuff? It is meant to be used against very specific doors that shut down before you can enter. The doors neither blend with the environment nor are they really fitting lore-wise. They are just there because the designers wanted you to use your time spell at that point, for no particular reason. Not…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Beautiful game. I haven't finished it yet, but I've played a few hours now and the gameplay is incredibly enjoyable. The mechanics are unique and fun. Good story, wholesome vibes. The art is beautiful and aesthetically appealing to look at. The characters are interesting and enjoyable to interact with. The main character is adorable and easy to fall in love with. Vic's a lil cutie. The creatures are awesome, too. Honestly going into this game I thought it was going to be more…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Thought it was alright, but not what I was expecting. The store page/trailers make it seem a lot more exciting than it actually is - it's very much a slow "environmental/cleaning" game like The Gunk, Loddlenaut, Island Saver etc. There's no real combat or challenge to the game and I think some players might get bored. It's a loop of learning an ability, taming creatures and using their abilities on basic puzzles, then moving to the next area. There's not much variation to the creatures'…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Repetitive with little to no interesting mechanics; chase animals, repeat their song, send them away. Fighting mechanics are pretty hollow and don't really vary between critters. There isn't really much difficulty in the game so it's pretty unimpressive. Story and dialogue are awkward and not very interesting. Lip-sync is distracting due to the fact it's just the characters opening their mouths like a fish. Models also have clipping parts. As far as I'm aware, no auto-save feature, so if…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm in my final few days of Game Pass so I've been bouncing between some smaller games. Right now I'm about halfway through Creatures of Ava and really enjoying it. It's super pretty and has a fun creature taming element that uses flute playing.
positive · AI labelView post →This one is tough for me. I enjoyed parts of the game a lot, but overall it was just very average. The story and characters I found very interested. The inhabitants of Ava are quite entertaining and lots of fun to interact with. The exploration was fun, the graphics were very nice though I did have weird performance issues with a 3080 on windows. Oddly enough the game ran better at high setting on my Lenovo Steam OS handheld with a Z1E chip. It don't not have the weird drops and stutter on…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wish Steam would have a mix button; it would suit this game. The game itself is beautiful, the creatures are cute, and neat soundtrack; but it feels hollow. I liked the first zone, you could lure and tame creatures with the flute, take photos of not just creatures but NPCs you meet, “rescue” (if you follow the main story you will see why that is in quotes) them, get a staff which helps with puzzles and fighting creatures, despite having about 6 types of animals each had their own set of…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I am pretty unsure how this game got good reviews from anyone. Its a buggy mess ON START UP. It took me over an hour of trouble shooting to get the game to even launch after having to edit the launch settings, the windows capability, and the graphics settings among other things. Then when I finally got it to be more then a black screen - the bugs were causing me to have to reload previous saves over and over. Bugs including objectives just completely missing, my character getting stuck inside a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This was an absolute hidden gem! The story was fun but certainly not groundbreaking. It was rather predictable but that didn't take away from the characters or the world. The game play was repetitive but not stagnant or boring. I found the combat just challenging enough for the chill style of game that it was intended to be. The game peaked my interest but I mostly got it because I was in my trophy hunting era. It honestly blew me away! I went in, planning to earn the trophies in a single play…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →In Creatures of Ava, you play as Vic, a nature explorer tasked with saving the inhabitants of the planet Ava from a spreading infection known as "the withering." The game focuses on non-violent taming mechanics, environmental puzzles, and world exploration across four distinct, linear zones. + charming world-building and atmosphere + fulfilling exploration + high quality and nicely adapting music + well balanced taming mechanic + intuitive skill tree + feature that reveals missing…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →That might have been a decent exploration game with some basic Metroidvania elements if not for its repetitive gameplay. Developers found one particular mechanic they apparently fell in love with and used it very extensively. I'm talking about interaction with in-game animals: you need to fight errr cure them, tame them with a flute and then lead to some extractor and collect all of them in the end. It is OK, but it is heavily overdone. You cannot travel 50 meters before meeting another group.…

Some of the heavy inspo im using for the world is the show "Dark Crystal Age of Resistance" and the game called "Creatures of Ava", along with general D&D 5e races and other fantasy.
neutral · AI labelView post →Creatures of Ava is a pretty compelling adventure game with a well-done narrative and some great exploration and environments. I hated the combat though, it's a real slog and by the end of the game I had pretty much lost my patience. The narrative and exploration definitely carried the game and I wouldn't recommend this to people who are picky about gameplay. I think the awkward fight controls, small enemy variety, and a lack of decent power-scaling would be a real deal-breaker for some, and in…

positive · AI labelView post →I love this game. I found this at the time when I was playing Subnautica. I searched for a non horror game and here I am. Creatures of Ava is great for exploring, learning about culture, history, the different persprectives the Naa´m have and the creatures that inhabit the planet. By helping them you learn more about the creatures and by collecting plants you collect information about the local flora as well.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nothing sucks worse than getting to the end of the game after 14 hours and finding out that you missed a photo of one creature that is only available at the very beginning of the game. Oops, no achievement for you, you missed one thing, that one time. Have fun PLAYING IT ALL OVER AGAIN. I was going to say it was a pretty fun exploration game, filled with bugs and issues... but just stay away. What a frustrating mess of a game. Also the story is basically nonsense, nothing matters at the end,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Calm and cozy creature collector with good graphics. Cons end here since there is no deep gameplay, the story/dialogs are best described as awkward, and every aspect of the game is extremely shallow, not even mentioning the bugs, which require manual save/load to be fixed.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Even going for the 100%, it doesn't overstay its welcome too much. Its a very pretty and endearing game. Not the most depth, but even for a story that focuses a bit on conservation and such, it managed to pull off a refreshing and thoughtful ending. The game has some bugs and a little jank, but nothing that saving and then reloading your game couldn't fix. It isn't too complex with its exploration and 'puzzles', and the actual characters and plot don't have the most depth, but it is by no…

positive · AI labelView post →The game is ok, I have gripes with some story element like death of your parents in intro not at all being significant. But otherwise the majority of gameplay is just being a pied piper with story about the mystery on encroaching cataclysmic bloom event and some "combat" mixed in. But a warning. If you got into this game because you wanted to rescue animal for a change instead of mass slaughtering or factory farming them in games like me. You may not like the direction of the story. I can't…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →If you'd like to explore a vibrant semi-open world without a (thematic) focus on combat (though still with some light combat-adjacent mechanics), Creatures of AVA is a decent game. It rarely goes above and beyond in any aspect, but just about does the job. The character movement system is a bit janky (especially when controlling creatures) but not too much. The dialogue tries too hard to be full of witty quips and exaggerated emotional reactions, but it does do the job of establishing the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →At its core, I do like the game. I enjoy the exploration and adore the creatures. Generally, I am happy with the game and plan to continue playing, but I do find some elements to be undesirable. Here's a quick and dirty breakdown: Pros: 1. Beautiful colors and landscape. 2. Open world exploration. 3. Good story line and plot (so far). 4. Creatures! Love getting to save and ultimately 'love' on the creatures as you learn their different songs. Which brings me to the next point: 5. Music. Love…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's an amazing game, the production is generally well done and the story is immersive. You'll enjoy it if you like animals and exploration games with very light combat. My only wish is more customisation options; hair and clothing changes for Vic, maybe a base to decorate.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →NOPE, I am REALLY irritated of how they handled the achievements, especially the extra missable one (photo of a healthy Têhra'ba). With these kind of games, I like going 100%, it's the way I enjoy playing them, idk, so it's really annoying to have to know what you have to do before you do it. Missable achievements are a sorry excuse to make players play your game more than once, it just makes no sense to me. Moving on: - Main story is not interesting, I started skipping dialogues and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Just finished and it has one of those stories that sticks with you. Just a couple glitches that need ironing out. Very much enjoyed the creature designs, fun characters, fascinating lore, and pretty alien scenery. And of course all the cute creature interactions
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I see game focused on animals. On saving them and their planet. I want it. I read some reviews and waited for a good sale. Played it over the span of 2 days, and made the mistake of finishing at 1:00 am. I am now typing this up after I have finished crying because of the flippin ending. The game? Wonderful albeit buggy/glitchy/laggy at times. Nothing game-breaking for me, though. The animals? I want plushies of all of them. From tiny little wombats-with-trumpet-noses to whole dinosaurs, I loved…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cutesy DEI slop, that's about it, and will not buy it for the kids, it's stupidly gay. You can even see how there is no heart placed in to the Script, just Create generic Gay Black Girl, instead of allowing people to make there own character and do a proper game where everyone is welcome, but you have to Pander to the 3% of the earth population with something that they don't even buy. I just stopped Playing it months back and didn't want to return to it, and quiet happy that I got it with a…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not one of the best games, but it's definitely a decent one. The gameplay is okay, pretty repetitive, and still not boring. Puzzles are very easy and combats are not challenging, especially with upgrades. Craft also makes life easier, but I didn't use anything except healings. The graphics and style are really pretty — just look at these creatures! And thanks for the petting animations — they are adorable. The world is also beautiful and compact so I enjoy traveling in it. But I have…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It is ashame as I played this game until I thought I got all the achievements but only that the 'other' section didn't proc something it was supposed to during the story at the beginning which it should have. I reached out to the DEVs and they basically said they did something recently in a patch and if it isn't fixed, sorry do it again basically which to heck i am. So with a heavy heart leaving a negative review due to the few bugs I came across and the fact i couldn't fully 100% the game due…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →20. Creatures of Ava I'm grateful for this vibrant action-adventure game that creatively reinvents "combat" to focus entirely on evasive moves as you work to cleanse the local animals of corruption and save a dying land. The story has more layers than you might expect, too.

positive · AI labelView post →Hate to leave a negative review because the game is nice. Good sound, works well enough, pretty visuals. It's a well put together game (though I agree with other reviewers about the yapping during the puzzle sequences, cut that entirely imo) I can't get past this whole like stealing indigenous culture so that you can 'rescue' the animals and the people of the planet, and by 'rescue' we mean '♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ kidnap'. Like what do you mean I'm needing to teleport enough creatures of each type away from…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was completely enraptured by the story. Yes, to some it may seem predictable. Perhaps the main character is infuriating at times. But to me, the ethical themes displayed in this game often are that way in real life, too. I enjoyed watching the main character grow over time. I'm surprised anyone would say they didn't see character growth over time. It couldn't be more apparent to me and felt very realistic. Deeply moving, cozy, and addicting, once I really got started I could not put it down.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I gave it a fair shake despite it being false advertising. This game is like luigis mansion but more cumbersome. If you were expecting creatures battling creatures, capturing the creatures for you to use them, and overall something fun? nononono this game is like herding sheep while you have glass bones and paper skin. and devs, you know damn well people expect something akin to pokemon when they use "creature collector" tag.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →FIVE STARS!!!! You should definitely get this game if you like cosy games with a deeper story and with side quests that allow for a proper exploration of the world as well as helping you develop a deeper connection to the characters and cultures this game introduces to you as Victoria Hamilton the protagonist. Furthermore, the comedy is peak and really made me smile even if you could argue it was a bit repetitive. I honestly love this game with my entire heart and soul and although the…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wanted to love this game, but at the end I felt so disappointed. My first issue was the bugginess. Creature collector bots sometimes reappeared or displayed incorrect collection details after fast travel, even though the corresponding creatures were gone from the area and would not respawn. I also had a really irritating bug where in the Dunes, the second piece of every collapsed column acted like it had not been collapsed, and my character would fall right through. The second issue for me…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Beautiful game. It can be buggy in places, but if you're looking for a relaxing experience on an alien planet full of amazing animals to tame and breathtaking environments, this game is definitely for you. There are some performance hiccups and stutters here and there, but overall, you can tell it was made with care, which is why I recommend it.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's very basic and buggy while having a lot of missable content which is a bad combination. I feel like they have the basis of a good game, but they decided to focus on something that seemed easy enough for them to achieve. Everything feels super outdated like an old movie tie in videogame. The inventory management is unnecessary. The pointless gating and missable content in what is basically a collectathon game with no payoff is made even worse by the bugs that can make you have to repeat a…

From the moment you step into its world, there’s a quiet sense of wonder, curiosity, and empathy that stays with you long after you stop playing. What truly sets the game apart is how it treats connection. Not just between player and world, but between living beings, nature, and silence itself. Every interaction feels intentional, almost tender, reminding you that understanding doesn’t…
