Incredibly bad. "An unrelenting onslaught of eye-popping visuals" Oh boy, they aren't joking - good luck making out anything in this visual mess. It feels explicitly designed to be as hard to read as possible. "ear bursting soundscapes" Yep, correct again. Just stay away from this. Unfortunately the gameplay loop just doesn't work here. You can pick up power from dead enemies, but that will only powerup your shields and shields equal the amount of hits you can take. You can transfer power from shields to weapons to use excess energy to missiles (perhaps later you get other things too). Thus gameplay loop basically becomes -> use 3-4 energy on missiles, transfer all …

This game is great! I'm looking at all the complaint reviews and I'm just not seeing it. It's a shmup, and a hard one at that, but if you pick a sensible upgrade path, and manage your resources right, it's not unbearable. It's been a long time since someone put this much graphical might into the venerable shmup genre. It's good to see a release like this in the year 2024. If you like shmups, don't miss this one.

Cygni: All Guns Blazing received mixed reviews on Metacritic. PC Gamer compared it to the films of Michael Bay, leaving the reviewer feeling "like my senses had been jackhammered to sludge". They enjoyed the combat and praised its accessibility, though they said the number of power-ups can make some levels a bit too easy. In contrast, PCMag felt the ship upgrade system gave it replay value, though they found some of the upgrade options confusing, especially for newcomers. CYGNI: All Guns Blazing Looks beautiful. Great sound when your gunship is blasting away. Playing first Stage / Level was fun in the begining but after awhile OMFG will this stage ever end!? None stop throwing enemy drones at me as cannon fodder same enemy over and over again. I just couldnt take it anymore it was boring asf! and tedious. Damn shame because could have been great! Stages needs to be shorter with more variations of enemies.

This game is visually stunning and even beautiful I'd say, but that's sadly where it ends. It's confusing, annoyingly repetitive, the controls are totally weird, and the weapons system and upgrades are just sad and boring. To sum it up, it's a beautiful mess. I don't want my money back because I've loved Konami since I was a kid and want to support them, but this game is a disgrace to the shmup genre.

Rating: ★★☆☆☆ Overview I really wanted to love Cygni. It’s a new Shmup from Konami with eye-catching graphics that reminded me of Sky Force and those beloved 80s & 90s shooters. I pre-ordered it, played it on both PC and Steam Deck, and even tackled it on hard mode. Here’s the reality check: unless you got it for free or with 75% discount, save your money and your sanity. Gameplay & Level Design Shmup Basics: The typical Shmup formula is start easy, collect points, upgrade your ship, unlock…

I love bullet hell shooters but this is not one of them. The attack patterns from regular enemies is all over the place. There is almost no window to avoid them unless you literally kill all of them as soon as they appear. The 1st stage is so difficult you will probably won't reach past the first 'boss"... Assuming that was even a boss. Lol For a game this difficult they should at least give you the EXP so you can level up your ship after getting killed so many times but nope. There is…

It looks awesome and it plays awfully chaotic. I agree with other reviews about the visual chaos of the game. Also the game is fast as a bullet hell but here you are not sure how to react/move with all these hundred lights all around, and at the same time you need to keep re-allocating energy as a game mechanic ... it becomes annoying and frustrating to play. If all this was at 40% speed maybe I can understand 80% of that visual screen mess... It is also sad because the visuals are really…

    - Stunning visuals BUT absolutely NOT ENGAGING nor interesting gameplay sadly. - Very spammy and unnecessary long fights, no actual dodging or much skill needed, movement is way too fast for any precise flying (not that you need it anyways). Just move left/right balancing energy and that's about it, nothing else needed. - Upgrade system is overthinked and feels useless at the same time with how the gameplay works. All in all: - Game lacks clarity and an actual interesting gameplay. - This…

Got it on a Daily Deal for over 90% off (plus extra 10% for bundle because I already had Gradius Origins) so for a $2.69 game I'm being more forgiving, but based on my initial experience I lean towards no. Great graphics and sounds alone do not make a great game, and despite my gaming laptop exceeding recommended specs I have to set the quality to medium or lower to get a decent frame rate in-game otherwise it stutters horribly after the opening cutscene. The gameplay is just way too…

this is a truly terrible shmup game. The only person I could possibly recommend this to is someone who thinks that visuals are insanely important and is desperate to have a shmup meet their visual standards... if you are that person... I still don't think you should get this game. endlessly repeated patterns with little to no variation in long levels that you essentially just strafe your way through without truly trying to avoid bullets (because it's less effective than zooming at top speed…

Debated whether to buy this game or not with all the mixed reviews. Picked it up on sale and still regret spending the dough. Cygni is a pretty short game and should probably take 3 to 4 hours to complete with all the achievements. I spent a good hour or so trying to play the game on hard before relenting and dropping it down to easy. Lets start with what this game does well. The visuals are gorgeous. The enemies, the bosses, levels themselves and the animations are phenomenal. Even though…

Personally, I'm a huge fan of classic shmups, but cannot stand, and I mean CANNOT STAND, bullet hells. Give me Toaplan, Compile, Psikyo, Hudson Soft, Namco, Capcom, Nichibutsu, etc, shmups any day over bullet hells. This game isn't even a bullet hell, it's unbearable. I went into the game unprejudiced, never having heard of Cygni AGB before. Neither did I know about its development history, nor did I read any marketing promises before buying it on a whim... and I had fun. Cygni is not an Arcade Shmup (or Japanese style STG), it is closer to a Computer Shmup or "Euroshmup". Think Raptor: Call of the Shadows. Typical for a Computer Shmup among other things Cygni: Has seven levels that are longer than your usual Arcade Shmup level. A full run takes about…

To be perfectly honest, I bought this game almost right when it came out initially and I should have waited. I am an avid real SHMUP enjoyer: I like routing out stages and slowly overcoming difficult bullet patterns while finding my personal balance of safety/survivability and going for the maximum score that is reasonable for me, in expertly crafted games where the scoring systems are all built on risk/reward. CYGNI is none of that; this game is actually an insult to SHMUPs as a genre. You…

A vapid, shallow and weak shmup cloaked in a beautiful patina, Cygni solves the riddle of “make me a shmup without telling me you’ve never played one.” Leaderboards are restricted to the 2-3h arcade runs and not individual stages (which are long in and of themselves). Although level lengths are long it just feels like not much goes on gameplay wise. Majority of bullet patterns trace so you can get through most of the game with circular movements. The game at it’s core is a lazy “collect ‘em…

While the criticisms of CYGNI in other reviews are generally valid, I feel that there's still a good shmup here, well worth playing. I won't go in to too much detail on the negatives as those have been extensively covered elsewhere. The main issues stem from the rough start and lack of guidance, paired with a progression system that rewards a particular style of play. On the upside, once you figure out how it works, it doesn't take too long to power-up and start enjoying the game. The…

I think the whole game is just a mess. There is nothing to like about a game that offers nothing but hectic movement with bad controls. The game is extremely resource hungry though there is nothing great to say about the graphics. I think it does not look much better than skyforce reloaded on my iPad Pro but without a NVIDIA 4070 you should not even try. It will stutter and control is impossible to maintain. That is ridiculous. The soundtrack is really the only thing that shines.

Graphics are absolutely stunning. Beautiful to play. Gameplay is straight forward to learn but extremely difficult to master, with an easy mode that is very doable, progressing to incredibly difficult in medium and hard modes. The good: Thanks to the Dev team there is finally a modern shmup that understands that graphics are a big part of the assignment. The music sounds like it's from a movie and the visuals are truly next gen. The enemies remind me of the mechs from the Matrix movies. The Bad: Pace of most of the levels is literally a crawl. Game is eh.. Cinematics are great, you wouldn't think that this was a small team from watching some of the cutscenes, the music is nice too. But does it hold up as a good shmup/bullet hell? IMO no. The graphical style really only serves to obscure your ship during hectic moments, screen shake and stuff doesn't help. Decent game! But I can't say I like it. There seems to be too many good ideas crammed in here. The upgrade system isn't very clear, the UI is convoluted & sometimes cryptic. The combat information is really hard to see during a intense fight. The difficulty spike is sometimes unbearable. The levels are really long, really ruins the fun! Doesn't justify the pricetag for my unfortunately. I really looked forward for this game, but somewhat disappointed. As for the good parts, frame drops aside…

Disclaimer: I did not pay for this game, it was a gift. I agree with many of the negative reviews. This game is unreasonably hard for no reason. The controls are janky and the combat is far too fast pace. Don't get me wrong, I usually love a difficult challenging game, but this is just too much. Unless you are a sweety try hard masochist you probably wont like this game or even get past the first few levels before rage quitting. Music: 6/10 Visuals: 6/10 Controls: 2/10 Gameplay: 1/10…

Classic shmup gameplay in a slick Unreal 5 graphical presentation. --- This reminds me of older bullet hell shoot-em-up's from the 90's era. Games like Einhänder and Lords of Thunder. Simple in concept but providing a visual feast along with a punchy soundtrack. No deep story or lore, just the basic you against the swarm to save humanity in wave after wave of alien insanity. Unlike most modern shmups that still use the more traditional pixel art; this pushes the boundary graphically almost…

    1. game optimization - it's terrible. 2. training - terrible. 3. game design - terrible. there are just a lot of things here. a) it's impossible to understand what's attacking you. there are just dozens of enemies on the screen, hundreds of flying projectiles, balls, sticks, effects. there is no clear understanding of where it's better for you to be at the moment, because the entire screen is strewn with this glowing garland. b) terrible solution - the same points are spent on missiles, you…

This game doesn't hold your hand, a brief tutorial and then it's drinking from a fire hose from there. But, if you give this game a chance and take the time to learn it then you'll come to find it's a hidden gem. The graphics and visual are very nice, sound is beautiful, game play is challenging and rewarding. Yes, the levels can be long, but the feeling you get once you finally clear the level is amazing. It's a SHMUP and a good one imho.

I played through the game, easy, med and working on hard. It's fun, it's lacking, there is a sound issue with stage 6? I think, it's off compared to the whole game. I think the games biggest fault is it's price, if you don't pick it up at Epic for free, wait till it's on sale, 9.99 and there won't be any regrets. Will I play it after I complete it on hard, i doubt it. You can catch videos at my YT channel BreezzersGaming. I have a couple tips on firing angles, weapons and power. Live Streams…

TLDR, Cygni is fun but very much not a game that's worth the price. It's a very taxing SHMUP, it really needs a beefy rig to play it at a good frame rate and even if you have that, it's 1. not very long, 2. locks Arcade mode behind beating the game once, and 3. is very complex in ways that just aren't needed for a genre this simple. It's an 7/10 game that could have been better if they cared a little more and didn't do so many strange/complex things with it. Let's get the positives out of the…

First of all, go into the options menu and turn off screen shake. As far as graphics go this is probably one of the prettiest shumps out there. Some of these bosses look amazing and I wish the game had a model viewer. However the game does not give you a chance to appreciate the background dressing since it constantly tosses enemies at you. You have to give the player a bit of time to appreciate things. (Example is R-type Final) Actually some of the stages feel too long since it is often…

I love SHUMPS but these people did EVERYTHING WRONG. The horrid part is that this could be some peoples intro into the genre and they'd get the wrong idea because the controls, the projectiles, the physics, the graphics, the enemy bullets, are all wrong! How could they eff up this much? How? You wouldn't make a SHUMP if you didn't like them, so I'm just left dumbstruck. I wish I could refund, but I bought it outside steam.
