Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 204 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (687 of 770 positive).
Players praise the game's unique art style and stop-motion cutscenes. [1][2][3] Many note the game is very short, often under an hour. [2][3][4] Some find the ambiguous ending thematically fitting, while others find it unsatisfying. [3][4][5]

While this game's atmosphere and graphics are extremely cool, it feels like a wasted effort. The 3D sequences look a little bit jarring, but the grimdark pixel art is very good. Music is also great, dark and foreboding. For some people it might be worth buying for the atmosphere, but it takes less than an hour to beat and there is no save functionality. The issue is that, like many other games created for a jam and …

My review contains spoilers, I tried to hide them using formatting, but if it doesn't work, just go enjoy this gem before reading my review. 11/11 would recommend. Just played this game, and I wanted to say how much I appreciated the experience. At first glance, I didn’t expect much from this game, but after playing it, I feel like I got far more than I paid for. It introduces a storytelling I’ve never seen in a game before. Yes, there isn’t a huge variety of torture methods, and the playthrough can be quite short if you rush it. But exploring every choice and branching scenario makes you realize something profound. The final cutscene never changes, …

This art style is phenomenal! I see that the Dev of this game also made Dead Format, so their vision is in the right place and have the capability of making a grander game. I just really hope they make a sequel or return to this to flesh this out. I could see this game with multiple endings, false endings, multiple towns, achievements, but as it is its sooooo short. I understand the message of the ending, but could …

A short point & click adventure where you play a witchfinder out to torture confessions in a Scottish village, and features utterly sublime stop-motion style cutscenes. store.steampowered.com/app/3048140/...
positive · AI labelView post →Oooh, this looks neat! And the same developer as Daemonologie, a neat and creepy game I really liked.
positive · AI labelView post →The best current short game is Daemonologie, where you play a witchfinder in an Eggers-esque world with great sound design and even better it’s entirely written in Scots and feels like a trip to Edinburgh Vaults katanalevy.itch.io/daemonologie

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Initially captivating with its stark, monochromatic woodcut aesthetic, the visual allure quickly dissipates as the mechanical shallowness becomes apparent. Stylistically brilliant but unfortunately hamstrung by its own mechanical inflexibility, brevity, and lack of content. Presented as an almost horror detective game, it instead plays out as an interactive art piece offering the illusion of choice without the intellectual payoff. The primary loop consists of repeated dialogue and…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It feels a bit mean to downvote the game, but I do rate it as a game and not as a piece of art. As a free project or demo, I would rate it much more favourably, and awaiting a bigger game. But in this form, as a finished project it just does not really hold up well, despite the low price. What you get is basically a few very cool stop motion videos, strung together by the most basic dialogues and minigames. The minigames have no real meaning, you just randomly click around and the dialogues…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Daemonologie is a quick and eerie witch-hunting game with some cool ideas. Talking to suspects and deciding whether to torture them is interesting, even if the gameplay itself is pretty simple. The cutscenes add a lot to the vibe, and the unclear ending makes it stick with you a bit longer. Not perfect, but a solid short horror experience.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →31. Daemonologie (2024, PC). Another entry in my quest to convince you to give micro-games a chance, and this one's a doozy: a point and click gothic horror mystery game where you play the role of a prosecuting witch hunter, Ace Attorney if you were Judge Claude Frollo.
positive · AI labelView post →I only recommend this game for those who know enough about witches. I've seen countless complains about the ending not being clear but it all makes sense if you know how it used to be when accusing people for witchcraft . The game has a nice art style, I would say a bit too short but I guess it's quite good, just get informed please.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Although I found the game genuinely spooky, I didn’t enjoy it all that much. The ending felt underwhelming, and that’s me being charitable. It's more historical commentary than a story with meaningful progression and definite conclusion.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Now I’m set on playing a smattering a short horror games in the backlog. Finished the 30-45min Scottish horror indie game, “Daemonologie,” a one-man production with *stellar* stop-motion animated cutscenes. You play a fanatical witchfinder, torturing his way through a medieval Scottish community.
positive · AI labelView post →🖤 A medieval witch hunt where interrogation, torture, lies and pure misinformation blur into one messy “truth.” Short game, but sticks with you longer than expected.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Its a positive rating, but not a strong positive rating. This game thrives with the artstyle, the game oozes personality through the cutscenes and pixelated artstyle. The combination of stopmotion and pixel artstyle is an odd choice, but it really does fit the style the dev was going for. The torture minigames were interesting to see too, but some were a bit less impactful and one very much made me cringe (in a good way for this game). Now, while I do think the story is fine and there is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Daemonologie oozes gothic and creepy style, from the stilted stop-motion cutscenes to the authentic and stylized olde English. It's a game that confidently asserts itself as a time piece and uses every tool at its disposal to sell it. Unfortunately, it stumbles a bit on the logical storytelling it fails to capitalize on and the ending, but I was fully invested in getting there. You play as a witch hunter with four days to investigate and find a culprit, then identify the heretic on the morning…

neutral · AI labelView post →Hmm. Bought this dirt cheap in a discount bundle and appreciate the fact it's made by one guy. But to recommend it to others? That's a hard one. As the description says, you are a witch finder who needs to decide which one of the villagers is a witch. It's a very simple game. Simple graphics, a few single screen locations and some unique animation between each day. Can't say much else. Anything would be a spoiler. It really is what the description says: a story about the Scottish witch…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A very interesting and unique game. Its grotesque imagery and amazing art style make for a great, unsettling, eldritch, and beautiful experience. The soundtrack, as well as the ambiance, also fit very well. However, one thing that can get quite divisive in opinion is the final revelation, since there was none. The game's short, but all of that investigation, complex visions, and many different dialogues to explore with different runs, just to not even know if your choice was right…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I wrote this review directly before finishing my first playthrough and edited it for clarity after finishing the game three times to clear things up and correct accidental misinformation. This game really does not hold your hand at all, with the most "tutorial" you get being for the TORTURE minigames and not the interactive aspects. Around day 2-3 you're left with no choice but to torture people for INSIGHT in order to pass the time as you can only go to sleep after you used up all 4 time…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This atmospheric folk-horror got my attention after checking through Oro Interactive's list of published titles. I went into this game treating it like an intellectual and moral challenge, ready to do some detective work. I prepared an investigative framework that assumed: - There is a Witch - Five Innocents - Finite time - Forced decision - Asymetric information - High cost of false positive I knew that certainty was going to be impossible but I wanted to maximize the probability that…

positive · AI labelView post →Good game, extremely on point with its concept, and very cool aesthetic work- especially with the cutscenes. I find that the main weakness for me was how the torture mechanic was handled; after you had spoken to all of the villagers, time would literally not progress until you employed the torture option. I feel like this undermined the conceptual strength of presenting it as an option, where you go from playing as a witchfinder for whom torture is as normal as talking, to an pawn which is…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My favorite part is when you torture people for no real reason because I am mentally deranged just like the main character.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Solid 8/10 It's disturbing and interesting. The stop motion cut scenes were beautiful. After the first playthrough ended and it looped back to the start, I was a little confused wondering if I made the right choice. After a couple more times, and getting the full stories out of everyone, I realized there was no definitive end, and everything made sense. Screw the priest though, that guy sucks. Would play again just to see him hanged more.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Neat aesthetic. I don't like that it's presented as a detective game but there aren't really gameplay decisions and the information you discover doesn't really lead to anything.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short little game with a compelling story and beautiful gritty art. The experience is quite unsettling and the gameplay is implemented in very creative ways. It was fun to become immersed in this odd little town of unusual characters. Very mysterious!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I Write Games Not Tragedies is placed next to Daemonologie by @katanalevy.bsky.social. The dev hasn’t arrived yet but I am already scared of him because not only is the game written in Scots English, but I played his game for 2 mins and I already tortured a priest 😱 #justgoththings
positive · AI labelView post →Beware this game is just a 25min "experiment" that combines timing "torture minigames" with dialogues and a lot of gore and disturbing imagery. If you are up to it, mind these: - Do witchs exist? - Would neighbours tell the truth about each other? - Does torture work to discover the truth? From my side, I enjoyed art and "stop motion" scenes (torturer's dreams), but the amount of gore was way too much and the lack of proper introduction or context building lacking. This one, is only…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →🎮 2026 Game #69: Daemonologie Absolutely love the art direction here and especially the stop motion style animation. Game as a whole is a bit lacking in substance, but the concept is super cool and the dialogue is interesting. I just love indie games with religious themes 😭 7/10 #IndieGames
neutral · AI labelView post →Overall, it’s a decent piece of work, except for the main message. This is a case where form outweighs content. My main issue was that the gamedesigner only nominally gives us a choice in how to conduct the investigation, but essentially takes away the option to complete the game without resorting to torture — because otherwise the message that “everyone is guilty, yet no one is to blame, and therefore violence is pointless” wouldn’t work. The gameplay literally softlocks if you only talk to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The entire game takes less than thirty minutes featuring some fairly slow cutscenes, and one button minigames, and a basically mandatory "Resolution" where you uncover a murder, but don't get to find a witch, and the murder never really gets acknowledged. Is the game trying to be pro witchcraft, pro murder, or pointlessly dark?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So the artistry of the game is what drew me to it. The pixel art and the gorgeous cut scenes. That being said, this really should have just been an analog horror or an ARG. After playing through the game twice, I get that the point of the story is essentially it doesn't matter who you kill, you're still killing a person, and being from a position of power, your choice doesn't matter because everyone is going to be harmed and someone will die. It doesn't make for a great game that one should pay…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Decided to cap off this year by playing something that matched its energy and finished with a renewed hatred for my fellow man. Short, visceral, and deeply uncomfortable. I've also seen several people disappointed that the detective work in this game is shallow but after reading some of the comments left by the developer, I think it's completely intentional - it feels thematically appropriate that the only witch is a bunch of bitter villagers pointing fingers at each other and all of the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sick atmosphere and design but falls flat in its message (quite generic) I don't mind the length and given the price point I can't complain. The language setup and worldscape is pretty neat, albiet quite jarring and pretty predictable 3d scenes.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →7.2 Firstly this is super short, you'll finish a full go through in about 20 minutes. So take that initially what you will when factoring price etc. I really enjoyed what it was going for and it succeeded in capturing a rare feeling, As the puzzle pieces come together at the finale, especially letting out a realisation chuckle as the game ended, I understood almost all of what was being handed out with it's breadcrumbs aside from two characters which the developer clarified them all which…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I'm pretty mixed on this one, but I'll give it a thumbs down, even though there is stuff I like in the game. The atmosphere and themes are pretty great, and the animations in sequences like the dream portions are fantastic. The game is pretty overly simplistic and easy though. As far as I can tell, there is not 'true ending' of any sort, which I sort of expected. The point seems to just be that you can't tell if there is actually a witch or not, essentially "Is this just superstition?" I…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I would suggest keeping an eye out for the developer's future endeavors rather than this specific game, as they show promise. Daemonologie would've been a recommendation had it been free, as the concept is neat - with great visuals and sound design - but there's so little content, and if you want me to pay money for 30 minutes of material then it had better be of remarkably high-quality. It does at least have me curious to see what the dev plans to do next.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Creepy, disturbing, and truly unique. An experience worth having.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →OKAY! #Daemonologie was a TON of fun (in a morbid "torturing Scottish villagers" kind of way), go check the game out on #Steam, it's only $2.99 USD, give love and support to the devs!
