Players praise the game's creative level design and comedic tone, calling it a standout cinematic platformer. [1][2][3] Many reviewers note performance issues, especially blurry visuals and poor optimization on some systems. [4][5][6] Some players find the gameplay simple or repetitive, with a weak ending and limited challenge. [7][8][9]

Finished. Visually, this game is stunning. I loved the environments, the character design, and the overall atmosphere. Everything is polished and full of charm. The gameplay, however, is mostly walking, swimming, sneaking past enemies, and figuring out how to reach the next area. It is enjoyable, but very simple, and any challenge is usually solved within a minute. The ending also felt a bit weak. Overall, I liked …

Compared to many other cinematic platformers, the trial-and-error design here can be brutal, and the jerky camera tracking doesn't do it any favors. That's unfortunate, but the game is creative with its levels, rarely rehashing the same boring obstacles often seen in this genre. Aside from a handful of annoying sections, it's fun--as you'd hope from the cartoony presentation. Few cinematic platformers sport a …

We don’t get enough puzzle platformers of this caliber anymore, and especially not ones this polished! Darwin’s Paradox! looks stunning and plays really well, with responsive movements and varied playstyles. The animation is world-class and frequently hilarious (I never knew an octopus could die in so many creative and comical ways). It perfectly captures the nostalgic charm of classic platformers while feeling …

8.5/10 | Joyous / Hilariously Fun / Movie-like! Darwin's Paradox was nothing but absolutely incredible joy from the very start to finish. Adventure Platformers aren't anywhere near as often developed as the early 2000's like the various PS2 titles we used to play but this was a fantastic mix of that oldschool stance with Pixar-like cinematics & gameplay style. It was quite short at around 5.5 hours for an average …

Steam please add a mixed review option! Ok so this is a really fun game but the performance is absolutly shocking, I'm barely hitting 60FPS on high settings with a 9070XT lol, native FSR probably boosted it by about an extra 10FPS, setting FSR to balanced on medium/low quality gave me 120+FPS. Theres also no option to disable film grain, motion blur etc, if these things give you a bad headache then avoid until they …

"Step into a cinematic adventure as Darwin, a brilliant octopus trapped in a mysterious industrial world. Use his unique abilities - swimming, wall-climbing, shooting ink, camouflage, and more - to overcome traps and escape." What other games are there like this that you can finish in a few hours?

positive · AI labelView post →So, this week looks to be RELATIVELY chill for game releases... So, only Aether & Iron, Super Meat Boy 3D, Grime 2, Tombwater, Sprint City, Spark Ignites, Modulus, Darwin's Paradox, Cursed Blood, All Will Fall, Kijutsu Rider, Crown of Greed, Star Trek Infection and probably a few others. Quiet!

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is by far the blurriest game I have ever played. It goes so far that it's sometimes impossible to read texts on the in-game assets like billboards, signs etc. The performance also shouldn't be this bad for this type of game (dips to 30fps in the tutorial underwater section). Otherwise the game is not bad, it has charm and a great main character, but I can't recommend it in it's current technical state.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played through the Darwin's paradox demo. Yes, Like all Konami games there were some puzzles and things to dodge. However the demo I believe, misrepresented the entire game. It looked like Darwin was actually making some progress. Again, there were puzzles and traps that he fell victim to until I figured them out. But when I purchased the entire game that's all it was. Yes you can make progress through the game but this is more of an arcade style side scroller. The game is really nothing but…

Is this game a masterpiece? Well, it is a daring escape story of a small octopus who must flee from a deadly industrial facility. It certainly looks fantastic and promises exciting gameplay, but it is more like a decent cinematic platformer than an immortal masterpiece. The Japanese publisher Konami has released countless iconic games…

neutral · AI labelView post →If there was a way to give a neutral review, this game would totally get it. I didn't really dislike it, but I didn't like it either. I found the pacing kinda strange. You start with a "tutorial area" in which you learn from watching your friend how to camouflage and shoot ink, but when the actual game starts, you can't do either. You have to "relearn" it via cutscenes (in which, again, you learn it from your friend). That was a really weird decision. The gameplay itself is… I would say…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The demo was better imo. The demo had crisp clean graphics, and here I feel like I’m going blind with how blurry it is. Maybe it’s my settings, but if that is the case, why are the default settings for this game to be blurry when the default settings in the demo look fantastic. Also, the demo showcased the best sections of this game. You don’t realize the game’s problems until you play the full game. This game is all about trial and error, and there is little room for you to do anything other…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This might be a really good puzzle/action platformer. Sadly it's missing basic functionality. There is no key rebinding for keyboard and mouse. This is NOT some nice to have accessibility stuff for convenience - it's basic functionality for many gamers. There are left handed or disabled people, those with different keyboard layouts like AZERTY or those conditioned to a certain layout through decades of muscle memory - many of them cannot play a game without key rebinding. The devs also don't…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Steam, add a neutral recommend option. I like the character, the world and it's overall aesthetic, but the gameplay loop is kinda just okay. There's some really fun platforming sections, and the stealth is okay, but both do get a little tedious after a while. Even though this is a rather short game, I played this in short bursts over a few weeks because I got bored really quick (probably doesn't help that I've been playing the Arkham games recently which have really good…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cannot recommend this at all. Really unfortunate. I was kinda looking forward to this, it looked fun and with all the MGS references etc i thought it would be a good time. I admittedly didn't even make it an hour in, at about 45 minutes, i decided this just was not for me. The design philosophy here feels really, really bad. In just the 2nd area that the game brings you to, you are given a mechanic of being "clean" and "dirty". While dirty you can't stick to surfaces at all. The only…

positive · AI labelView post →7.3/10 Fun game, and very promising potential for a new platformer franchise/mascot dev's first game, excited to see if a sequel ends up getting made 100% wasn't very difficult thankfully Biggest issue with this game is how poorly optimized it is. Nothing game breaking, but hard to get consistent performance throughout and the game just constantly looks blurry no matter the settings
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well, after playing the demo, I had high hopes for the game, particularly for its cinematic direction and how good it looked and I can say that I liked what I played in the full release as well. It’s not a long game, and considering the price some may find it hard to digest, but it is very well made with nice comedic elements embedded into it and incredible visuals. It plays like a side scroller where you are mostly moving to the right, jumping and progressing, so there aren’t many puzzle…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I finished the game in around 3 hours, so it was way less content then expected. :( It was fun, but too pricy for the amount of playtime.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Speaking as a 38 year old gamer who’s been at it since childhood… And RARELY use this term… This is an absolute work of art. There is no script. Just pure, raw, emotional guidance via cinematic glory when it comes teaching skills and story telling. It's short, took about 8 hours to beat, but I absolutely love this game. 10/10.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Charming, hilarious, and way more cinematic than I was expecting. A short experience, clocking in just under 4 hours for me. Sometimes that's all you need from a game, though the ending was certainly abrupt. It plays a bit like Little Nightmares but with a very different tone. Great debut from ZDT Studio. Looking forward to what they put together next.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Darwin’s Paradox is one of those games that immediately hooks you with its creativity and keeps you playing thanks to its genuinely fun gameplay loop. Controlling an octopus might sound like a gimmick at first, but it quickly becomes the star of the show. The movement feels fluid and playful, and the wide variety of abilities like camouflage, squeezing through tight spaces, and using the environment in clever ways—keeps things constantly fresh with hazards literally everywhere. What really…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was excited to play this game and really wanted to like it, but despite its charming octopus hero, the game wasn't fun enough to keep going and annoyed me with some frustrating sections. I read that the game gets even more frustrating past the point I played (two hours), so I decided to refund it. What I liked: + cute octopus + charming animations + nice eastereggs (other Konami games like Metal Gear Solid and Frogger) + good humor Neutral points: * unremarkable music * you learn and use…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Such a fun, silly and replayable game. I love it every time I play through it. Please, please, make dlc, expansions, sequels, etc. AMAZING GAME! It feels like a game from back when games were fun just to fun and didn't need to be too long or deep or political. Such a great time! Please give us more!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like the art style of this game and thought it would do a great job at visual story telling. But easily a third of this game takes place in the sewers where nothing appealing is happening and there isn't much to tell about its visual narrative. Gameplay is tedious and Janky. I always kept getting attached to walls I didn't want to. Kept missing my jumps because of the very stiff controls. Kept on getting stopped if I climbed over the smallest bump. All these kept leading to frustrating…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A game like Limbo or Inside - but instead of a boy you are an octopus with some interesting abilities. The swimming movement is fast and fluid. The ability to stick to any surface and climbs walls and ceilings is cool, and the ink shooting ability is super-useful! The graphics and animiations are top-notch, like a playable Pixar movie! I played thru the entire game on the Steam Deck without any issues. Overall, I would definately recommend this game and encourage you to support this developer.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Short answer: I wholeheartedly recommend this game – even at its original price point. This is a genuinely enjoyable platformer. While it’s not without its flaws, there’s a lot it gets right. It may not completely astonish seasoned platforming fans, but if you have a fondness for the genre, you’ll certainly find plenty to appreciate. What I liked: The world design is playful and engaging – I genuinely wished I could explore more, so it’s a slight shame that the game is quite linear. The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Completed in one sitting, this title stands out as an excellent cinematic platformer. Having just finished Deer & Boy, which shares the same genre, the comparison is inevitable. Darwin's Paradox takes the exact opposite approach of the previous one, trading tenderness and sensitivity for a delightfully quirky, tongue-in-cheek universe. Visually, the art direction is remarkably polished and brings a real breath of fresh air. This originality also extends to the gameplay, which revolves around…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What an absolute GEM of a game. An instant classic. Darwins paradox is really exceptional. It immediately gave me a feeling of nostalgia. The opening area took me right back to the days of Ecco the dolphin and the feeling I got when I first saw that game. It is a masterpiece and an amazing journey. At times it even game me the feels and reminded me of Abes Odyssey and even Grim Fandango for some reason. This is just one of those games that we rarely see these days that will be a classic. The…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Listen, if you want to start a new IP, you start small and make a loveable character & interesting world. THIS IS THAT GAME. It's an on-rail puzzle game with an interesting story and funny slapstick humor. The game took me 6.5 hours to play, most of that was looking for secrets, which I need to play again to find the last ones. This is a solid game and I hope really hope the next game has a little more support and maybe a bigger budget for some 3D movement. I would love it if they did that.…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I finished Darwin’s Paradox over the past couple of days, and I’d call it a solid, focused platformer with a lot of charm — just not without a few rough edges. You play as a squid navigating through various environments, sneaking around and figuring out how to move forward while trying to rescue your friend. It doesn’t overstay its welcome, which I appreciated. It took me around 6–7 hours to finish, and there’s no filler padding things out. Every ability you unlock feels purposeful, and the…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I played the demo & thought it was quite fun. Unfortunately that does not translate to the the full game. It started out strong but got repetitive quite fast. The overall visual design is top notch & its clear that a lot of creative direction went into this game, maybe that is why the gameplay falls flat. The game is more tedious than it is outright fun. Some parts are just a chore and do not feel satisfying to beat. In some scenarios, the checkpoints are too far apart which leads to some very…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great puzzle platformer. 6 hours playthrough story, short and sweet (100% story complete, 60% collectables and not all achievements collected) . All the puzzles were fairly intuitive but there is a hint feature if you get stuck. Only issue is that the game is currently completely unplayable on the steamdeck in handheld (poor aspect ratio, blurry visuals with no in-game settings to improve this) and docked (blurry visuals again , framerate stutters and the graphics settings do not really improve…

positive · AI labelView post →Great little game with some clever puzzle design and tight jump and run sections. It feels like a game of the old days where you get a linear game with just a few core mechanics. The humour is also superb and the graphics are great even if I found the backgroundblur to be a bit too much especially at the beginning. Overall I highly recommend this game if you like games like limbo or inside this will probably be one of the best games released in 2026.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Darwin's Paradox is one of those platformers that doesn't fit neatly into a category. Playing as an octopus sounds like a gimmick until you're wall-sticking your way through an environment and realise the movement actually has something to it. Traversal feels genuinely different here, not just reskinned. The visuals back it up too, they are cinematic without being flashy. On Steam Deck, it runs fine. Not perfect by default, but the built-in preset does more than you'd expect. It targets 30 FPS…

neutral · AI labelView post →It really reminded me of games like Abes Odyssey or Rayman. I like that it doesn't hold your hand, though it does have a hint system if you're struggling. there's no yellow paint to show you where to go, most of the puzzles are solved by observing your surroundings. this did leave me stumped a few times, but if you stop and apply a bit of simple logic, the answer is always right in front of you. I did die quite a lot as there are action sequences that demand a lot of quick thinking, again,…

Many of the puzzles have been fun and i've enjoyed exploring this little world. HOWEVER. there are some places i have gotten stuck purely due to extremely unforgiving timing and with how far apart the checkpoints are i have been left struggling and wanting to pull my hair out. When this game is fun, it's great, but when it sucks it REALLY sucks. Overall my main gripes are the…
