I’m honestly pretty conflicted about this game. It’s not terrible, but it also frustrated me way more than I expected. Gameplay: The first 10–15 hours were actually really fun hands down. The combat feels satisfying, smashing zombies apart with various weapons like the wolverine claws or maces etc feels great and cool at first, and the gore system is pretty impressive too. But once I reached the later parts of the …

Dead Island 2 looks cool on the surface, but once you dig into the actual story, it’s clear how weak it really is. The narrative feels shallow and forgettable, with characters that don’t leave much of an impression and missions that rarely build any real tension or emotional weight. After waiting so long for this sequel, the lack of a compelling storyline is especially disappointing. Instead of pulling you into a …

Fun, gory zombie brawler with solid visuals and satisfying combat. The story is weak, the gameplay is repetitive and can get boring fast. Worth a play if you enjoy open-world zombie chaos, just don’t expect a game-changer but it is a good way to pass the time. P.S.: The main story felt short and ended out of nowhere, especially just when it seemed things were getting good! 🎚️ Difficulty 🔲 My grandma could play it …

tl;dr gorgeous, gore-heavy zombie slasher with great performance and style, but dragged down by repetition and some truly braindead design decisions Overview Dead Island 2 takes you to “HELL-A”, a quarantined version of Los Angeles overrun by zombies. 68% of the 280 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Dead Island 2. The complaint that keeps coming up: story is weak and ends abruptly. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Dead Island 2 received "generally favorable" reviews for the PC and Xbox Series X/S versions, while the PlayStation 5 version received "mixed or average reviews" from critics, according to review aggregator Metacritic. The game was nominated for "Best Action Game" at The Game Awards 2023 and British Game at the 20th British Academy Games Awards. Several critics praised the game's focus and ability to provide mindless escapism to players through its core gameplay loop of killing and slashing zombies. Wesley LeBlanc from Game Informer enjoyed the skill cards, writing that they added to the game's replayability and encouraged players to experiment. He also strongly praised the gore system, for…

Not only the game comes with the installer file already when you say no to installer and delete the file and boot the game it also puts up a notification on your screen. This is bad practice. Instead of integrating showelware you could have invested in a interface designer.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is good but something is off about it and I think it's a compound of little things. - strange hitboxes, I swear it's really easy to misjudge distance and hit area - weapons have animations that just don't match their inpact - gunplay is not good, I gave up on guns playing the game, they are just very boring - weapons don't have a sense of inpact, for example huge hammers have pretty much the same inpact as tiny daggers - they dropped the ball by not having unique weapons as rewards for…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The actual play experience was pretty good, I had some minor bugs, but only twice. I bought the game though knowing there was a New Game Plus option that would allow you to bring your weapons to the new game, but here's the thing: the NG+ is horrible, they just cranked the HP and damage of the Apex zombies to 11, turning the game dull, boring and tedious. Firing 3 magazines of assault rifle ammo into the head of a zombie isnt fun, it's just busywork.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Is it a kinda fun game? Yes it is, but its boring. Coming from someone who finds most games of this genre fun, there is just something missing. Stability is solid. Gameplay is satisfying. However thats about all this game has to offer. It feels oddly soulless to play. One of those games where you can enjoy playing it at the time, but its only getting you by. Just enough fun to prevent you from closing the game and never returning for your first few hours, but you quickly realize there isnt much…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As a big fan of the original game, I was very excited to try this one. Unfortunately, it did not meet my expectations. The game is very repetitive. Often times, it's blatantly obvious they're just trying to increase the length of the gameplay and there are sections that contribute nothing such as pointlessly holding out in an area against waves of zombies. This happens way too many times and it feels like the developers are being lazy. I also strongly dislike how the zombies progressively get…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →To be honest, the story here mostly feels like a loose premise for the first half of the game. It starts to get a bit more interesting later on, but just as it begins to build any real momentum, it abruptly ends. It also doesn’t really feel like a direct sequel to the original Dead Island or its expansion it comes across more like its own separate thing, and I wasn’t particularly sold on the new direction. That said, even the first Dead Island had a fairly weak narrative, but at least it was…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dead Island 2 kept pulling me back in for one more area, one more weapon, one more stupid fight that got way more chaotic than I planned. The story isn't great and some side quests blur together, but I stopped caring once the combat really clicked. Hitting zombies actually feels heavy, different weapons change the whole rhythm, and the FLESH system isn't just something they wrote on the store page. You see it every time a fight turns into a mess. It doesn't feel like deep survival horror to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's not a burning hatred, but it's not far off. Adored the first game, jank and all. But this is on another level. A lot of the issues I have with this game can be summed up by "quality of life". It's repetitive, regularly going backwards and forwards over the same areas, fighting the same zombies over and over again. A lot of the loot system revolves around finding locked boxes that you don't have the keys for, doors that need a fuse or other doors that need the entire circuit breaker box…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The cheap price, gore, combat, weapons and crafting were the only things which had me buy this, strongly suggest only ever buying this when on sale. I bought the ultimate edition for $10 at 90% off which gave me all DLC content. The game encourages the use of an external launcher and creating an Epic Games account which is a practice that I'm dead against for any game. The story and characters are utterly abysmal so don't expect any sense of depth whatsoever but the actual combat, killing…

I didn't bother to check the credits so I will just call them John Galaxybrain and Poor Soul. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I was *very* critical of Dead Island 1. I found even it's mediocrity mediocre. Dead Island 2 is a *MUCH* better experience. I did not enjoy the banter of all the playable characters. The latina was a bit repetitive but the rockabilly grated at my ear constantly. I played all the way through NG+ with the amputee and, while I found her a bit "how do you do fellow kids", the story painted by her comments was an interesting one. (I might try again with the himbo, but I honestly don't want to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dead Island 2 is simple: you just run around a great looking LA and smash zombies. The combat feels heavy, the weapon modding is fun, and the gore mechanics are incredibly detailed. It doesn't take itself seriously and it runs smoothly. If you want a straightforward game to turn your brain off and break some, it’s worth playing.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I got this game on sale and it's still not worth it. It's the kinda game that would make me feel ripped off even if it got it for free. It's gameplay is slow and generic and the story is incredibly bad. The is the only review I have ever left for a game but this game makes me feel I must warn others from wasting their time like I have.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The gore system is good. The graphics are good. The environments are stellar. The worldbuilding and attention to detail area by area is really impressive. That's the good. The bad; The voice acting - horrendous. The characters personalities - intolerable. A true example of 2020+ writing and how terrible its become. The combat is somehow both really weighty in that swings seem to be quite slow but they also seem to have no momentum to them so crashing a sledgehammer into a zombie feels like…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I honestly think most people who played this game only played for the first couple of hours because that is the only way you can find enjoyment in its progression. Past the surface level interesting aspects like the opening hook and combat system, the story and progression is so painfully dull. None of the boss fights particularly stand out, they have you repeat the same tasks about eight times through the game and it's all wrapped up in a bow that is one of the most disappointing endings of…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Finishing off this game and it's Final Expanision before work. Kinda wish Dead Island 2 gave the characters more of a story arc for them instead of a group layout. I know my slayer was looking for his brother, but do we ever really know what happened to him.
neutral · AI labelView post →This game is so damn boring. lacks any soul and all the characters have marvel tier writing and just suck. They butchered Sam B as well and that's unforgivable.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The original Dead Island was an okay experience until I encountered the infamous Dead Island Loop. Dead Island runs on a durability system for weapons. As weapons are used, they lessen in durability, ultimately doing less damage over time before they break and can no longer be used until repaired. Unfortunately, if one fails a mission, the game will usually restart the mission, but still charge the player for any items used or durability lost. This creates a loop where a failing mission…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The game is fine. The gameplay is pretty much Dead Island 1. But --- GOD DANG the characters are sooooo unlikable... This is what a teenager would write if all they've ever consumed was Marvel/DC movies. They're all "cool", they're all "edgy", they're all "Coldsteel Da Hedgegog" - nine inch nails (the band), nine inch nails (on fists), they hate their dad, they hate Jared at school who showed everyone their Deviantart account --- I wanna puke. neutral · AI labelView post →Could have been so much better! { Ignore the hours played, played a bunch on Epic when it was given away and on Amazon Luna. } Man, it pains me to write this. I'll start with I liked Dead Island & Riptide. Only issue I had with those games was your characters movement, it made you look and feel like Rigor mortis was setting in and you weren't even a zombie lol Now to this game, it improved on the movements as in sliding and jumping up on ledges you can climb, So was happy to see that. positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A friend gifted me Dead Island 2 and it's weird how after years of a much talked about development hell, the game, which is sort of a slow paced Left 4 Dead with fantastic melee combat (and a Karen O song as the main theme?), turned out to be actually really good and barely anyone talks about it
positive · AI labelView post →Trying to decide what my next game will be. This is what's currently installed. I've already completed Astro Bot, Spider-Man 2, and Dead Island 2. So it's down to Star Wars Outlaws, Avatar, Suicide Squad, or Cyberpunk.
neutral · AI labelView post →This is what happens when you keep giving junkies fent. I find it hilarious that a game called dead island doesn't take a place on an island anymore, unless California decided to split from rest of the US. The game is really similar to its predecessor, for better or worse. I'm not going into too much detail in this review, I'm just going to pinpoint a few things. I like that our main protagonist no longer has asthma which was the case in riptide. I'm not a big fan of the card system…

Dead Island 2 proved the opposite: when a game truly knows what it wants to be and executes it properly, I’m still fully in. COMBAT THAT FEELS RIGHT The combat is the heart of the game, and it works. Yes, it feels somewhat scripted rather than fully physics-driven, and I would have loved more systemic…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game appears more shiny than it actually is! Rating: 8.5/10 All things considered, I was having a very hard time deciding between 8 and 9. Many factors want me to push forward, but also some factors holding me back. First of all, Kudos to the Locations, Graphics, Optimization, Characters, Music, and FLESH system.. while releasing in a polished state which is very rare in modern AAA releases, even after big development hell. I liked Dead Island 1 and Riptide, so I was naturally very…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is just not good, it starts out good, but after a brief moment you realize the game is unfinished. Acting is terrible, characters are terrible, unrealistic reactions to situations, zombies popping in right before your eyes, you clear out an area, walk 10 steps in one direction, turn around and they have all respawned behind you. I played until the first boss fight at the hotel, I just couldn't stomach it any more after that. Even at the deep discount of $4.99 this game is not worth…

neutral · AI labelView post →Dead Island 2 could have been one of the best zombie games of all time, but imo the cringe characters and writing and the game being short in main story and DLC are what hold it back from me giving it a 10/10. Overall it's 7.5/10. Still great coop with friends and amazing graphics. Optimization and detail in zombie killing are what recommend this game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great game, altho I liked the first game more. You can run, quick punch, and kick infinitely without an endurance or stamina bar, which is a huge plus since you need to run all the time, this was a huge improvement. What I loved most about this game are the firearms: pistols, shotguns, automatic carbines (assault rifles), hunting rifles (sniper rifles), and the crossbow. The fury mode helps a lot, but it's too short. The 2 DLC are awesome. Dead Island 2 6/10 Heisen
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →After downloading the game, I didn't expect to be stuck downloading the Epic Games Store. I wasn't particularly happy about it and immediately put off playing it further. Why would I need some crap that would download and take up space on my computer, which I'd immediately delete after finishing and never use again? Damn, I've been using Steam my whole life, and they're constantly shoving unnecessary apps at me. While you might enjoy this game with friends, it's incredibly boring alone.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A Very Strong First Impression How do I even start... I guess by saying that the beginning of this game is genuinely promising. The prologue was incredibly smooth, and the way you can destroy zombies’ limbs and mess up their faces is honestly some of the best gore I’ve ever seen in a zombie game. The combat feels great and is easily one of the strongest parts of the game. I also really appreciate the use of environmental elements like water, electricity, fire, and fuel. Electrifying water or…

If you are looking for fun and detailed environments, customizable weapons, and fun bosses and different zombie types then this for you! The game doesn't take itself too seriously, and I highly recommend trying to find all the journals for some laughs. Read the whiteboards and listen to NPC conversations! positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really wanted to like this game, but honestly, Dead Island 2 feels more like a polished tech demo than a true sequel. The story is barely worth mentioning — it’s closer to a parody than something you can take seriously. The tone constantly clashes with itself, and any attempt at emotional engagement just falls flat. One of the most immersion-breaking issues is the day-night cycle. It’s completely artificial. You can literally walk past a gate into the next area and suddenly it’s pitch…

I can't say much more to its quality because the only way I ever managed to get it working was to play offline.
