Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor
Developer Funday Games
Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor is a shoot 'em up video game by Funday Games. It is a top down spin-off of the first-person shooter Deep Rock Galactic modeled on the auto-shooter Vampire Survivors. The player controls a dwarf on a solo mission to mine ore, shooting enemies and ultimately defeating a boss at the end of each level in order to gain experience and increase their weapon's power. Funday began developing the… From Wikipedia (CC BY-SA 4.0)

What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 285 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (41,782 of 48,467 positive).
Many reviewers note the game is very grindy, especially in later stages, with repetitive meta progression. [1][2][3][4] Some players find the difficulty spikes unfair and the end-game restrictive, limiting viable builds. [5][6][7]

Its a nice game. I really do like the overall concept and gameplay, but it is VERY grindy and has a TON of meta progression. You will be replaying the same missions over and over and over and over and over and over again for a marginal 1-2% stat increase on a single weapon/class/biome. If the devs can streamline the meta progression and grind, I'd give it a positive rating. 42 weapons, 12 classes, and 5 biomes each …

Deep rock galatic survivor is a fantastic game with plenty of customization, loot and builds to play through that will keep you active for a long time. I am nearly 50 hours into the game, lets talk pros and cons: Pros: Graphics - Deep rock galactiv survivor has pretty nice looking graphics but its the art style and charm that sells it. Its not a crysis level realism style game, but its a quiry cartoony and fun style …

God, I both love and hate this game. But, a €12.99 game that gave me 100+ hours of gameplay doesn’t deserve anything less but a thumbs up— but it isn’t all smooth sailing. It runs excellently on the Steam Deck. Anything up to Hazard 4 performs perfectly. At Hazard 5, however, you’ll run into some performance issues, which is why I switched to PC for most of the mastery runs. Unless you’re planning to 100% the game …

If you like Vampire Survivors, Enter the Gungeon, Halls of Torment, or other bullet heaven / auto shooters, this game is probably for you. Most well polished, high production value, plus tons of unlocks to keep you coming back for a more powerful run. Best game in this genre I've ever played.

Perfect game for the holidays! Killer dwarfs! bullet hell slash survivor auto shooter. Self explanatory. Kill. Mine. Survive. Upgrade. You will be pulled in for a couple hours guaranteed. The grind is real and can be repetitive . But killer dwarfs never get old.

positive · AI labelView post →This is not an entirely bad game, but it’s a bad survivors-like game. The combination with a mining game is refreshing at first, something that I miss in the monotone locations of other games from this genre, but the survivors mechanics are undoubtedly too inferior compared to other games in the genre and definitely below par. Boring and unrewarding flat meta upgrades (like +1% damage / fire rate / reload speed). No synergies between weapon or run upgrades, no game-changing upgrades. Many…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I've played this game a lot since it first released in early access and continued to iterate on the game. The end result, at least of their 1.0, is that they just never addressed so many of the myriad problems with the game. Weapon balance is terrible. It has always been terrible since the early days and has barely been addressed. A large percentage of the weapons are so bad they actively make you weaker by having them, since you get offered upgrades for your other weapons less often.…

neutral · AI labelView post →Sadly this makes the same mistake as so many other "Survivor-likes" and makes the End-Game a slog and bore. There is no experimentation allowed at the highest level, only a handful of viable builds if you want to beat the levels. I'm really baffled how all these higher profile Vampire-Survivors clones miss what makes that game truly fun; playing with the mechanics, allowing the player to break stuff and have fun. I'm talking about having fun and all these clones are made and they become…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I really tried to like this game, it has really good bones, it feels great to play, but it's just too difficult and unfair. Massive, insurmountable difficulty spikes require hours and hours of grinding to overcome, rather than skill or strategy or even RNG. The core gameplay loop is leveling dozens of stats by 1% per game and hoping items with minute stat bumps drop. All the weapons and classes are really cool and fun and have some great synergies, but at the end of the day, they don't matter,…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Probably the most polished survivor game but one of the worst in terms of gameplay if not the worst. Their idea of having a lot of content is basically locking everything behind an endless grind. After a few hours when the novelty wears off it becomes repetitive. There's no satisfaction in finishing a dive, it's just plain boring.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Brilliant Twist on the DRG Formula The game took me by surprise. I went in thinking this would be a side project, but what I found was a tight, exciting survival shooter that stands on its own. The core gunplay from Deep Rock Galactic works beautifully in this new survival mode. You still feel powerful and weighty with every shot, and the enemies have that same satisfying mix of chaos and danger that made the original so much fun. The moment to moment gameplay is intense and rewarding. Waves…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Well polished but maybe one of the worst games in the genre. You have stunningly little agency, there are a bunch of systems but none of them give you any real depth to make choices as a player. It's basically just a stat grinding simulator with what seems to be escalating grind times for each wall. It's unfortunate because the game is extremely well polished overall, but a survivor game needs to be the right combination of brainless grind and learning what to exploit, and this game is…

neutral · AI labelView post →It's not offensively bad but it doesn't understand what makes the genre fun. Repetition in roguelikes works because of variance between each run. You can try different builds, see new items and abilities, and make different decisions. Deep Rock Galactic: Survivor has extracted all the run-to-run variance into its massively over-engineered and grindy metagame progression system. It's quite telling that to start your first run, you have to click through about 6 screens showing you all the…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →So yeah, after 20 or so hours, I'm fuging done with this siht. I've been through a lot of bullet hells, it's probably one of my favorite genres in recent years and DRG Survivor is not it chief. Which is a shame because DRG vibe is here, gameplay loop is fun and upgrades are meaningful. Both Elimination and Escort mission types are interesting. So why I won't recommend it? Because of it's horrendous difficulty spike after Hazard 2. Balance of equipment&upgrades vs enemies dmg&hp is totally out…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a very repetitive Survivor game. There is a lot of micro-progression locked behind challenges that gradually increase your stats by a small amount. Gear that also come with randomized stats, different levels of quality that also bring with it some stat upgrades and effects that can make a run more convenient. Finding gear that is high quality is quite rare, compounded with having to fish for good randomized stats is also prolonging the grind. The game itself is quite challenging, more so…

positive · AI labelView post →- Extremely repetitive gameplay - The permanent upgrades feel like they have almost no meaningful impact on gameplay - The weapon balance is terrible. Some weapons are completely useless, while others are overpowered - Various bugs and technical issues, such as your Supply Pod getting permanently stuck, the game freezing between levels or even freezing when launching the game - Sooner or later, you will end up with more resources and money than you can actually spend. They become completely…

Well not that it's here I can say I will no longer be supporting this game. 1 class 1 level 1 mode. almost as much as the base game. If you mention in the forums that other games exist and that you like a mechanic or price of other games, you get warned for "promoting other games" You do know you aren't the 1st "survivor game" in existence right? Hey guys, Did you know that other games exist on Steam? WOWZERS!…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Mid. Grindy. Luck-based. When you win, it feels like you had it in the bag all along. When you lose, it feels like you just got unlucky because you won't be able to pinpoint anything specific that you could have done better or played differently. There aren't any meaningful choices you're making, just luck of the rolls. Avoiding getting hit is counter-productive, unlike other games of this genre (eg, Spell Brigade), because the meta progression grind makes you go out of your way to mine. And…

neutral · AI labelView post →I got 53 hours out of the game but I ultimately don't recommend it. My main problem is the progression. The first run feels like all runs. You will never really encounter anything that changes. Different weapons and classes all feel the same, and all enemies are literally the same. Most upgrades are simpler +damage type upgrades, that don't feel meaningfully different. I guess I was just chasing something more interesting and never found it. Edit: For clarification, I regret my time with this…

I had no experience with the mainline DRG game, and was a little worried at first that I’d feel out-of-the-loop with this spinoff. Not so! positive · AI labelView post →My main problem is that the game lacks diversity when it comes to items, builds and traits. Like the equipment you drop only gives you like +2% mining speed and the upgrades you purchase between missions give you +1% walk speed or +1% crit chance and so on. You get the idea. Ultimately all characters and builds feel too similar and upgrades don't feel meaningful. What makes this genre fun for me is experimenting with different combinations of weapons, builds, items and traits. When they feel…

Honestly, when you're copying vampire survivors, don't forget that the game should be fun. 62 hours. I decided to give this game another chance, but it's still an absolute nightmare. So indistinct it's impossible to tell your guns apart with a naked eye. Compare it to other representatives of the genre where your arsenal either circles around you like them scythes and Bibles, growing bigger and badder, or creates fiery splashes across the screen like the sword slashes or a ball of lightning in Halls of Torment. This would be a GREAT multiplayer game... But for some reason whenever anyone makes something in the vampire survivors style, they don't do that. But single player? neutral · AI labelView post →Very fun roguelike but I personally feel like it needs a bit more work to live up to DRG standards. The game is VERY grindy in the later stages, and there aren't many artifacts to make each run feel unique. I found myself picking the same upgrades time after time rather than trying to diversify my builds. I think it's a very fair asking price for what you're getting, but again, when you compare it to the main DRG game, it has a lot to live up to. Still recommend.
