Deliver Us from Evil
Directed by Scott Derrickson
When a frightening wave of violence sweeps through New York City, troubled cop Sarchie fails to find a rational explanation for the bizarre crimes. However, his eyes are opened to a frightening alternate reality when renegade Jesuit priest Mendoza convinces him that demonic possession may be to blame for the gruesome murders. Together, they wage a valiant supernatural struggle to rid the city of an otherworldly evil. From TMDB

How the fuck have I never seen this incredible movie? I've seen the French smut version, Don't Deliver Us From Evil twice! So easy to root for the killers!

Not a comfortable watch (in multiple ways).

Girlhood (2014) Love & Mercy (2014) Deliver Us from Evil (2014) Tempted to say Dead Presidents (1995), but I feel like Deliver Us from Evil covers that.

Banned in France, never released in the US, (incomprehensible) X-rating in the UK. maybe the X is for: Jesus these girls are scary.

neutral · AI labelView post →Don't Deliver Us From Evil (1971) is a chilling, highly controversial, and poetic French art-house horror film directed by Jean-Pierre Mocky. This film stands as one of the most uniquely subversive and disturbing psychological horror features of the 1970s. #folkhorror #horror #horrormovies

neutral · AI labelView post →Remember when Peter Jackson made movies? Like, when he was a fun creative director that was doing unique and interesting things? Dude made some fun horror, a great remake of “Don’t Deliver Us From Evil” (Heavenly Creatures) and a haunted house film before falling into this pit.

neutral · AI labelView post →Ok fellow Horror Mavens, we capped off our night with, "Deliver Us From Evil". It was...a middling movie. Not bad, not great. The main draw is Eric Bana, bulging beautifully out of everything he's wearing, lol. Joel McHale & Edgar Ramirez were equally beautiful ta behold.

Bana is known in fandom for his roles as the title character in 2003's film Hulk, the villain Nero in the science fiction film Star Trek, and Ralph Sarchie in the horror Deliver Us from Evil. #EricBana
neutral · AI labelView post →Another criminally under appreciated movie in my opinion is 2014s Deliver Us From Evil. This is such a fun movie, but for some reason it gets a lot of hate. The effects are pretty good. The storyline for why the possession is happening is also interesting. #Horror #Movie #Underappreciated

neutral · AI labelView post →Would you like him to sign a copy of the greatest demonic possession movie ever made, "Deliver Us From Evil?" It's the one where he's a backwards baseball cap wearing cop that looks 17 even though he was 40.
neutral · AI labelView post →Needed a brainless film for Friday night, so watched DELIVER US FROM EVIL (2014). Watched it when it came out, thought it brainless, verveless generic. Impression holds up. It's devoid of ideas, new or coherent. Not repugnant like THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE or THE LAST EXORCISM, 1/?
negative · AI labelView post →oh yes that film was a hoot! I admit that Deliver Us From Evil creeped me out - just some skilled visual design & physical acting. I also LOVE The Exorcist tv show. 10/10 hysterical garbage with great flair. But all other possession stuff is just a dull episode of Supernatural.
positive · AI labelView post →Watched Prom Night IV: Deliver Us From Evil. 90s Canadian horror. Disturbed priest really doesn't like the prom. The fourth and final Prom Night movie which has no connection with the first three. Sadly, no Mary Lou which made it a bit boring...cont.

positive · AI labelView post →"Directed by Amy Berg, director of 2006's shattering Catholic sex-abuse documentary Deliver Us From Evil, and produced and funded by Peter Jackson, who also funded the investigation, the two-and-a-half hour film methodically lays out explosive new evidence in the case."

I wasn't sure what to expect from this film, given the low ratings, but I think it was just exactly what I was looking for, today. And that exorcism scene? Woof. #filmsky
positive · AI labelView post →#Filmsky. #Horror. Deliver Us From Evil is an excellent horror movie. Watched it again and forgot how creepy it was. One of the better possession movies.
positive · AI labelView post →it's not odd for Derrickson (THE EXORCISM OF EMILY ROSE, DELIVER US FROM EVIL), and there is a bit of it (although mjuch less) in the first film
neutral · AI labelView post →Exactly; gore in purpose of the story is fine; the Predator films for example. But just gore for the sake of gore, like SAW just doesn't appeal to me. I'd watch Deliver Us from Evil seventeen times before I'd watch a single Halloween film.
neutral · AI labelView post →👎😬👎 My ★ review of Prom Night IV: Deliver Us from Evil on Letterboxd boxd.it/bdCJBn
neutral · AI labelView post →You should watch the exorcism movie he made right before Dr. Strange. Deliver Us From Evil. It’s not just any Christian fanfiction. It’s Christian fanfiction with a side of 9/11 era war on terrorism paranoia, with demon possession as a stand in for American soldiers radicalized by the terrorists.
neutral · AI labelView post →Exactly. People who didn't see it in cinema, new & unexpected, aren't experiencing same film. The Terror, Sinister, Us, Deliver Us From Evil, and His House really unsettled me (until Sinister turned out to be goofy episode of Supernatural nonsense!)- but nightmare scared, not heart-attack scared!

neutral · AI labelView post →I need to check out Deliver Us From Evil. Constantine is a comic book horror movie with demons and possession so imma count it 😋 If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend The Cleansing Hour. Excellent premise and good demon banter.
neutral · AI labelView post →For a better movie with a similar premise check out BELZEBUTH (2017). Or don’t because it’s kind of a rough ride. But if you’re down for a nastier flick it’s a much better time than DELIVER US FROM EVIL

neutral · AI labelView post →#100HorrorMoviesin92Days 80. DELIVER US FROM EVIL (2014) A fairly run of the mill possession flick with Iraq War (2010) opening, I think meant to be something about the demons of war possessing US veterans, one of those very US American clumsy metaphor films? Idk. It was ok to pass the time with.
neutral · AI labelView post →The French exploitation film Don’t Deliver Us From Evil. The movie has a great premise (Catholic girls gone Satanic) but most of the movie is a slow snoozefest up until the last five minutes, which is a genuinely great ending!
