What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 174 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Mostly Positive (996 of 1,320 positive).
Several reviewers complain about broken login DRM and server issues. [1][2][3] Some players note the game is fun but has a small player base. [4][5][6]

The DRM system is amazing, simply amazing. "Create an external account" - fair enough, okay, I did. Trying to log in - "We can't locate the accoun or it is not activated". I did activate, and account is available, but sure, whatev. Five attempts, and they can't even give an option to delete the account. The game that was released 11 years ago sure did need this DRM, right. The game itself is good, but the systems …

Mixed rather than truly positive. This is a MOBA with all sorts of options that modern MOBAs wouldn't consider, including RTS elements, pooling resources to buff up minions and lane-waves, playing generals type characters, all while being surprisingly well balanced. ...This however is bittersweet as no one plays the game, a single player MOBA doesn't have the same charm, and there's only 10 (8 if the internet check …

What an old, clunky, strange take on a MOBA - it's dated, slow-paced and charmingly ugly, but for all of those reasons I love it! Forget playing against people, you'll have to make do with bots but even so, it's a lot of fun. The different characters are unique enough that you'll have a completely different play-style according to whomever you choose, and it takes some real practice to master each of them.

It works on windows 10 and 11 now. Would recommend this as the best moba to ever exist. Too bad the original devs couldn't monetize it very well. Online works with custom games, give it a go. The game is dated but feels good.

Like others have pointed out, the login system is weird and broken and very frustrating. If you can get it to work, this is a fun nostalgia play. It's a nice cool down if you just rage-quit another game or are simply bored. It's definitely a good & fun game, but I can't recommend spending money on it at this point. The internet is very different from when this game was first released, but I believe there may still …

Critics, per Wikipedia
The game received "generally favorable" reviews, according to video game review aggregator Metacritic. Review website 1UP.com summarized much of the negative and angered criticism the game received with the following quote: "If you're interested in throwing down cash for a beta and maybe getting in some practice before things get smoothed out, go ahead and bump that score up a letter grade. Anybody else should find something else to do until then." GameSpot reviewed the game with a rating of 6.5/10, noting major online connectivity problems and the lack of tutorial or story based campaign as major problems. IGN's Jason Ocampo gave the game a 7.5/10 citing bad multiplayer netcoding and…

If you meet him after the main quest, he should treat you in a manner that confers "oh shit, this is the DEMIGOD who KILLED AN (alleged) AVATAR OF AKATOSH by SCREAMING HIM TO DEATH."

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Modern miracle that this happened. I just replayed 6 and am willing to erect a small shrine to whoever convinced a game company to ditch the profitable shooter for a wholly untested hillbilly dinner party. Demigod powers of persuasion.
positive · AI labelView post →Stardock added a required login. When you enter your CD key, it says it is already taken.I have owned this game for years and just wanted to play single player and no longer can. DO NOT BUY! THIS IS A SCAM

But with how companies think its ok to take away sold products from customers that paid money to own the product, I can't recommend a game that is unplayable. Its scummy practices like this that is ruining the gaming community, and its stealing from those who have invested time and resources into something. Don't support Stardock in the future, I won't
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →They forced an off site account and external DRM system onto everyone even after they bought it without this requirement, even if they just want to play solo and offline! AVOID STARDOCK. Your game may be locked out or taken away from you at any time or new demands for personal info could also be added at any time. This also means the game WILL DIE FOREVER the second those servers are turned off because of technical problems, the cost of running them or the company closing up. Other games you…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not a bad game, but now, I need an account to play it. I've got no idea how do we get this account so I cannot play anymore, even in solo... so bad.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Used to play this offline against bots back in the day, good memories. For some reason however you cannot even play offline against bots anymore without creating a stardock account, simply can't even launch the game without making an account now. So much for game preservation.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →March 2025: Was just going through my games list and came across this game: DemiGod. This game has been dead... as in unplayable.... for YEARS. It requires you to login to play it on servers that no longer exist. It shouldn't even be in the Steam Store as an option to buy it. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS GAME. All positive reviews would have to be either bots encouraging you to throw your money away (to them) OR are people reminiscing about it in the past. It was an early MOBA game and *WAS*…

Men vs boys - Nice goals by Demigod and Hutson (we need to see more of that shot!) - 2nd line was great. 1st line invisible - Evans line terrible - Dobes wasn't to blame but he was fighting it (-2.61 GSAE) - Successful roadtrip

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Enjoyed this game in 2009 and happy to have it back on Steam. Fun to play. Happy to see no compatibility issue with my ultra-wide display / Windows 10. At a certain age, from time to time you want to be distracted from your daily life or shed some pressure from work but don't want to get addicted to those MMO titles. Demigod could work well in that case. A game typically lasts 40 minutes, which could be very intense and/or fun.

Its fun to play even after all these years, they just don't make them like this anymore. My hours on steam are quite limited, but I clocked in a good few hours more back in the days on the good ol CD.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Haven't played this in a while. Recently reinstalled, but game erroneously claims that the serial number is registered to another account, and Stardock server claims that there are no serial numbers linked to my Stardock account. I purchased this on Steam. This is why 3rd party accounts should not be required to play games.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I can't even play the game because of draconian DRM. Thank you gaming industry for once again handing pirates another win. EDIT: I contacted customer support. They were extremely helpful and i can now play the game. Game itself is pretty fun and I'd give it a thumb's up if not for the DRM and how it was implemented.

neutral · AI labelView post →I love this game. It's not the most amazing MOBA in the world, but it is a lot of fun to play with friends. I've been playing the game on and off since it came out, back when Stardock had their own launcher. I bought it a second time on Steam to be able to play it some more. And had continued playing it with friends until last week, when a connection issue corrupted my account. Sometimes, when trying to connect online, it just hangs for a while, and when you go back to relog your password…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →As of March 2025, it seems the account creation servers are entirely offline. I was planning to just try the game out with bots since matchmaking is dead anyways, but as it is I can't even get past the mandatory account creation to do that. Wouldn't be surprised to see this de-listed before long, unless something changes.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't know why, but i'm having fun with this game. I guess the early MOBA-Jank, before moba standards became a norm, probably helps with that. Keep in mind, more recent Nvidia drivers messed up the game. Its still playable, however, the mouse cursor is buggy as a result of said drivers. If you don't move the cursor, the game will run smoothly, but the second you move it, the game beings to stutter. It doesn't make it unplayable, but it might be enough to irritate you. I have neither the time nor the inclination to try to substantiate that statement but this was well before I personally had seen anything else of the sort. The lead designer was Chris Taylor of Total Annihilation fame. It deserves your attention and you deserve a fun, relatively simple game! Moving on, this game is a TON of fun solo and even more so if…
