Others criticize it as a disappointing sequel with technical issues and console limitations. [1][2][3]

Invisible War is a disappointing sequel; it had the impossible task of following one of the greatest PC games ever made, and unfortunately it just couldn't live up to that standard. It continues the story of the original; it has some interesting ideas and explores some compelling subjects (transhumanism, AI, the future of society); it still offers multiple ways to approach objectives, and it is somewhat more …

I'm a huge fan of the Deus Ex series, and I'm able to look past flaws in the games and enjoy them regardless. However, I can't recommend this game at all, unless you're playing through the entire Deus Ex series & you're a die hard fan, or if this game is from your childhood and you're on a nostalgia trip. As a follow-up to one of the greatest games of all time, this is embarrassing... It's crazy that this came out …

I'm surprised how good this game is. Based on the reviews, I was expecting a complete disaster. The whole time, I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, but it never did. Maybe it was a case of over-promising and under-delivering and pissed people off in 2003, but playing for the first time in 2025, I just had a good time. Character Creation Character creation is a mixed bag. This game actually lets you choose …

This game got a lot of flak in its time for being a bad sequel, but, honestly, I don't agree at all. Yes, some systems were watered down and the maps are much smaller with more loading screens, but the overall vibe, gameplay, and story are definitely Deus Ex. I enjoyed this game a lot more than I'd thought I would, and I think it's an essential part of the franchise that deserves to be recognized.

A somewhat mediocre Deus Ex game, but an absolute hidden gem as a standalone title. It has some obvious limitations due to having been developed for the original Xbox, and it shows, but story-wise it’s on par with Human Revolution and Mankind Divided. For those struggling to run it on modern hardware, just install Visible Upgrade.

Critics, per Wikipedia
During its debut week in the United Kingdom, the game reached #3 in the charts, described as a respectable debut. In their financial report in April 2005, Eidos reported that Invisible War was among the titles to have sold between 500,000 and one million copies since release, placing it among their successful titles. As of April 2011, Invisible War has sold over 1.2 million copies worldwide, placing it above the original game in terms of copies sold. Computer and Video Games called both versions of the game enjoyable despite elements of world building and gameplay not carried over from the original. Eurogamer's Rob Fahay, while noting that its focus on some aspects of the first game over…

Sometimes, it’s nice to highlight the good things that video games can do. And also remind myself just how proud of him I am.
positive · AI labelView post →More serious journalists need to play video games so they can connect the dots between Elon Musk’s obsession with Deus Ex (he keeps a fake gun from the game by his bed), and his obsession with a malevolent AI killing everyone if he doesn’t make it first to placate it.
neutral · AI labelView post →DK Bananza is a superb videogame, damn. Proves my thesis that the Mario team is the true carrier of the Deus Ex torch. The scale, verticality, the THREE DIMENSIONALITY of this game is so far beyond everyone else. I have no idea how their toolkit looks, how they MAKE these things???
positive · AI labelView post →Thinking about it, the original Deus Ex may be the king of choice in a game with a story, because your choices are significant, linked to gameplay and unforced. From the very start, for instance, whether you use or avoid lethal force against the “terrorists” determines something about you.
positive · AI labelView post →They slapped a war on terror label to DEUS EX 2, a game series about the government brainwashing you and also aliens you can fight with katanas

positive · AI labelView post →I hate that I seemingly can’t tell the difference between “this game is like this because the dev is in love with Deus Ex” and “this game is like this because the dev is an actual conspiracy theorist who probably has a lot of opinions about race science”

neutral · AI labelView post →to put it this way: it's pretty cool to be the person to tell someone about Deus Ex, because it's a really weird and interesting game, but also if you're covering Elon Musk you have to know about Deus Ex, it should not be on me to tell you.
neutral · AI labelView post →Deus Ex turns 26! (Officially tomorrow, I think.) So many memories. Connecting with a huge number of people due to this game development. Eternally grateful.
positive · AI labelView post →Everyone knows Deus Ex is one of the most important games ever, so I'll use its 25th anniversary to highlight another game: CyberMage: Darklight Awakening. It's a 1995 immersive sim led by David Bradley (Wizardry V-VII), Warren Spector & Harvey Smith - a forgotten stepping stone towards Deus Ex!
neutral · AI labelView post →I would also take a pittance of my money, a mere PITTANCE and fully fund a new Deus Ex game every year and give it away for free. Instead of retweeting Ian Miles Cheong sweating I’d be like hey ask me for the new Deus Ex game and I’ll give it to you on Steam, it’s free, please like me

neutral · AI labelView post →With every game I play, I keep thinking back to Deus Ex, and the lessons that weren't learned. Deus Ex has no minimap, no objective markers; it drops you into an environment and tells you to find something or someone. Which forces you to engage with the world, and to think, to deduce.

neutral · AI labelView post →Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a game with a vision, just not a very good one. Many parts are subpar but it is greater than the sum. Deus Ex: Mankind Divided is the video equivalent of a dissociative episode. Nothing fits, everything is an inch to the left, and it makes my teeth itch.

I genuinely enjoyed the fantasy of roleplaying an unstoppable cynic who refuses to compromise his principles. The game allows that to be his strength in the story.
