What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 181 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (3,091 of 3,560 positive).
Players praise the cyberpunk atmosphere, story, and voice acting. [1][2][3] Many find the combat and hacking mechanics flawed or frustrating. [4][5][6] Some consider it a hidden gem worth playing, especially on sale. [7][8][9]

I admire the ambition, but the execution falls flat. Lacklustre maps with barebones exploration. Paper thin characters, self conscious writing, with humor that doesn't land. Stiff movement, animations, and non-intuitive controls (right stick to roll, wtf?) Simplistic "go there and do that" questing. The game claims to be non-linear and "open world" but only by the strictest technical definition would this be true. …

Dex is not a great game, the combat especially is pretty bad, but it depicts a very good-looking, well realized, well written, well-acted game world that walks you through a familiar story in an interesting way. I wouldn’t put it in any Game of the Year lists but, for the asking price, especially on sale, you could do a lot worse. If you like cyberpunk stories, as I do, and if you’re looking for a shorter game to …

DEX is easily the best 2D cyberpunk experience I’ve! ever!! had!!! The story flows seamlessly and never feels dull, side quests are meaningful and have well-written narratives. The atmosphere is incredibly immersive with stunning visuals and detailed environments that perfectly capture the cyberpunk spirit and the game’s large, carefully designed world is a JOY to explore!!! One of those rare games that will stay …

it seems that this game is a bit of a hidden gem. If you are looking for a solid 2D side scrolling Cyberpunk themed adventure, this game is for you. Graphics, atmosphere, music, everything fits well together, and pulls you into the game world. Paired with pretty solid story and side quests it was very enjoyable experience. Gameplay is also interesting, as it allows you to get pretty creative in combat, whether you …

Czech astonishing dubbing performance, amazing story, hard yet great mechanics and fighting system, unforgettable characters, simply brilliant, an easy 10/10. I hope the creators will make something awesome as this is in the future.

79% of the 181 Steam reviewers we collected recommend Dex. The complaint that keeps coming up: combat is clunky and poorly balanced. Deal-breaker or nitpick?
Critics, per Wikipedia
Dex received mixed reviews upon its release. Arcade Sushi praised the gameplay system which "combines expressive 2D sprites and nostalgic platforming with some grade-A, modern action-RPG." It also praised the story and its familiarity to Deus Ex and Shadowrun. On the other hand, the save system was criticised as was the journal system. The review also mentioned some minor bug, but was overall positive and called Dex a "solid game worth investment." Czech website Zing praised the atmosphere of the game world and the story along with the soundtrack. Side-quests that include possibility to make a decision also gained praise. However, it criticised the number of bugs and noted that Dex should…

I have a living normal and shiny Dex of the base game, plus several boxes of duplicates, and now just can't play the DLC no more cause I can't catch new Pokmon until Home support comes.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Interesting game, terrible combat. Unfortunately, Tencent [url=https://techland.net/news/techlands-next-chapter-and-the-road-ahead]recently made a deal with Techland to become majority shareholders.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Overall, the game is bland and has glaring design flaws. For starters, the hardest fight in the game is very likely to be the first one as well. The skill ceiling of this game is actually lower than the skill floor. You'll start out with stiff, limited options, likely in a 3-on-1 fight, with very little healing and one of the characters easily has superior range to you. However, if you invest in the "right" skills (Hint: it's not guns), you can effectively and effortlessly stunlock…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Easily the Rotom Dex, that thing actively makes the moment-to-moment gameplay of SuMo/USUM worse. Kiddy is the worst in terms of design but is still fun to play as now that we don't have Nintendo's marketing department screaming in our ear about how Dixie doesn't deserve to star in a video game.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Gold standard: There is a demo. Try it before you buy it. I enjoyed Dex enough to 100% the achievements. It has a good cyberpunk storyline. The characters were interesting. I don't want to spoil its corporate/moral/story plot twists, but everything felt like it was revealed at a good pace. It is definitely worth investing in some combat skills. The game doesn't pull punches if you prepare yourself as a supersleuth and get into a gang fight, you will get murdered. I found that you were…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →From tonight's D&D game... The rogues decided to ride an i verted table down the stairs of a magical tower. 99 floors. Made the DEX save so only took 20 hp of damage. And ran over the war domain cleric somewhere around the 75th floor. She did not make the saving throw.
neutral · AI labelView post →Dex is a difficult and, at times, confusing game. The hacking system is especially frustrating — both hard to master and poorly explained. If you don't realize early on that neurostims boost your focus, hacking becomes unnecessarily punishing. Worse, the hacking minigame doesn’t feel realistic. For a cyberpunk game so focused on hacking, it would’ve been more engaging (and fitting) to incorporate real-world elements like basic programming or networking concepts. Instead, it feels generic and…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dex is a great, if short, cyberpunk beat-em-up RPG. I think I paid $2.99 and got 20-ish hours out of it for 100%. I'm slow so I tried to do everything and go everywhere. I expect a typical person would complete it in 15 hours or less. ✅Controls are easy to learn. ✅Melee combat is mostly about timing blocks and dodges, so pretty forgiving. ✅Cyberpunk setting and atmosphere are great. ✅A lot of voice acting for a small game. Character quality varies but all feel unique. 😐No way to…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Fun little cyberpunk RPG that is much higher quality than what you'd expect from an indie studio. Music and voice acting are great (impressive that it even had voice acting at all), and combat was still a bit of a challenge even at the end game. There are lots moral choices and different solutions to most quests to encourage a replay.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dex is a side-scrolling action RPG straight out of the 90s. It is, of course, not literally straight out of the 90s - it was released in 2015 - but everything about it, from its plot to its structure to its combat, emphasise what its inspirations are and what it’s hoping the player will draw from it. You play as Dex, a woman suddenly and unceremoniously awakened and tossed into a world of omniscient AIs, all-powerful corporations, and hacker collectives determined to do everything in their…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I just finished this game 100% with all achievements unlocked and all I can say is that this is a very good game, 8.5/10 for sure, the story is amazing and it is the only cyberpunk metroidvania I have played so far, it has a good story great music and graphics are nicely hand drawn. I will highly recommend this game worth every cent even at full price.

neutral · AI labelView post →This game is heavily about combat, especially at first. And the combat SUCKS. You can either bang your head against the wall trying to take down sewer guys who are way better at combat than you, or just dodge through all of them to progress, which skips xp. They have weapons, you do not.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Personally I would describe Dex as chill and fun. It's not the best game out there but I enjoy it, and I find myself coming back to replay it once every few years perhaps. It has its flaws sure but I think people get too caught up in the idea that games should be 'perfect'. Regardless of any balance issues or glitches I think this is an interesting game with good world building that would be worth checking out for people who like cyberpunk style games. Besides, its not exactly long and if…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →An engaging fusion of metroidvania and beat-em-up with some ninja/assassin stuff and arcade hacking sequences combined with good story, character advancement and exploration elements. The controls take 15 minutes to get used to. It's pure joy to play and accessible to anyone with decent motoric skills, not just platformer fanatics. Now the IMPORTANT part: SAVE YOUR GAME just about before finishing hack on the Eclipse level to avoid the very bad taste and uncalled for gotcha! moment.…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dex is a flawed yet entertaining title that fails to be anything more than mediocre. I was intrigued to explore the world of Dex at first, but as I got more familiar with the game, its imperfections became more and more obvious. Dex’s story is interesting despite the usual cyberpunk clichés regarding megacorporations and artificial intelligence, but is marred by bad writing and not-so-good voice acting. Likewise the world is gorgeous to look at with lovingly crafted environments, but the whole…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →100% Achievement Review This game was great. It is a cyberpunk metroidvania with branching pathways in the story. Many of the side quests also have multiple ways to complete the quests. There are normal stat points that you can distribute in lockpicking, hacking, melee, ranged and others, and also you can buy augments to do various effects like have you be immune to poison or electric damage, increase your melee, or jump really high (this is practically essential). There is also a hacking…
