Players praise Dicefolk as a fun and addictive roguelike that combines monster collecting with dice mechanics. [1][2][3] The battle system is unique and engaging, letting players control both their own and enemy dice. [4][5][6] Some players note balance issues and a lack of depth compared to genre leaders like Slay the Spire. [7][8][9]

Disclaimer: I've played exactly one full run of this game. That experience led me to have almost no desire to continue playing, but maybe take this review with a grain of salt. On the other hand, I've spent thousands of hours playing dozens of roguelikes, so if that means anything, you can also consider that when taking my opinions into account. This is a well-made game. The designs and animations are charming. From …

Dicefolk is a great roguelike game based on collecting unique pets and going through 3 worlds to finally beat the last boss. Its both fun and super addictive with lots of content and progression unlocked just by playing it. Its one of those games that just keeps on giving new stuff all the time. The formula is, grabbing 3 pets (every pet with their own unique ability & possible upgraded version) from your own class …

the fusion of monster collector/roguelite design goes hard af but after 100% this game probably should've gone through a couple balance patches, especially on the higher difficulties (look at wasai vs like 60% of the pain talisman roster)

Fun deck-building (dice in this case) rogue-like. You get to control both your and the opponent's actions (dice) which is a fun and novel concept that requires some strategizing around. Not terribly difficult but still engaging enough to enjoy at the later trial levels. Optimising combat was fun and there was always a route to victory. I particularly enjoyed having the ability to reroll all the dice to a better …

Lots to like here. Not sure if the other reviews were written before some big balance changes in August 2024, but the added Special runs and the Will/Fortune decks add a lot of depth, and the trials keep things pretty challenging imo with the chimera changes. Not the most complicated game in the world but very satisfying and fun once you get a run going.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Only a few battles in did the game reliably crash whenever certain enemies attacked. I looked for help on the forums and outside of steam, and what little I could find were people bringing up the same problem. The developer is very eager to talk to everyone else, but that issue has been left ignored. With no faith, I've refunded a game I can't play with an issue that has been ignore for about nine months at the time of this review.

neutral · AI labelView post →Nice little dice roguelike RPG with Pokemon mixed. You don't catch the monster, you summon from certain point on the map. Here are some interesting things you should be aware. 1 - Only one monster attack from your team at one time 2 - The other twos are just support, until you use "turn" dice, which will switch the lead. 3 - You also control dice of enemies (Yes, you read it correctly) - meaning you control the whole battle including sequence of enemy attacks. 4 - There are limited time…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great UI, where everything has simple and clear hover text. The gameplay is interesting without being complicated and the battle system is unique while still being familiar. All of the systems work together nicely and makes the game smooth and fun to play.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →7.5/10 + art style + combat system - story - shops need more choices or rerolls, 1st one being free - the artist who draws should give you a choice of 2 or 3 not just 1
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →There really isn't much to it. After three almost identical runs, I just quit.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dicefolk combines deckbuilder and creature collector to create an interesting experience. At all times, the game makes you feel in complete control: battle is decided by dice rolls, but you decide order of actions (including for opponent). Similarly, uncovering the map is non-linear and you will always see certain nodes (shops, upgrade stations) each run. This prevents a lot of RNG from ruining runs and this aspect is commendable. Unfortunately, despite randomness in creature attributes,…

The game play resolves around initially picking your starting “tribe/faction”, manipulating dice, traveling a little “world map”, moving your Chimera or enemy Chimera in a circular fasion, y (leader position), equipping items on your Chimeras,…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This one wasn't it for me. Took on every challenge, every difficulty possible and the game felt pretty simple. Reminded me of Dicey Dungeons, where the complexity just wasn't enough to pique my interest in the long term. Meta-progression is unlocked in such a way that you might not have the synergistic components of an otherwise useless relic. Aesthetic is incredibly done, and definitely made to be a satisfying game. Also some fresh new ideas for the implementation of turn-based content. If…

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →What a a hidden gem. I hope a welll funded sequel is in the works.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Nice simple roguelike dice-builder with enough originality in the formula to be interesting and give that "one more run" feeling. Enjoying it as an after-work chill out game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Pain chimeras are terrible Most of them are low HP, barely any healing skills (you have to pray to rng for items), and they hurt themselves to literally do anything Such a bad design for the faction The rest of the game is fun and fresh, albeit short Honestly a waste of money for how short it is
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Enjoyable casual roguelike, easy to pickup, lots of synergy to tried on, simple but quite challenging on the last trial. I think it need more special runs with different initial chimera and relic.

neutral · AI labelView post →Extremely unbalanced chimera's combined with mostly useless items where every item has to have a negative affect on your run and pretty bad RNG mechanics. I just can't recommend this one.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't have much to say about this. The game is way overpriced. I did a few runs and already started thinking "is that really it". Looking at some gameplay videos confirmed that that's really it. The actual battle mechanic is quite innovative. You get random actions from a pool (represented by dice, which you can modify as well) for both your team and the enemy team, and you control both sides. The catch is you have to perform all the enemy actions available to them, and so you try to…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →About 10 hours for me to beat the main game run, which consisted of 4 different "key" unlocks for the last door. After the 4th "key" there is a final boss battle. I took me several tries at first with the warrior build to finally win a key. After that, I was able to easily win the next 3 "keys" and slay the final boss. I was frustrated initially but I stuck with it and found a good setup. I recommend getting some regen items as they really make the ending much easier. The graphics are nicely…

neutral · AI labelView post →Never been to dice games, however this one doesn’t feel like a dice game in a good way. Recommend it if you like deck building battles like slay the spire.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →13. Dicefolk This is a really neat monster battler game that requires some strategy when you choose your team and your available abilities per turn. Took some getting used to but once it clicks it's fun. Creature designs are awesome. The kids love this one. store.steampowered.com/app/1996430/...
positive · AI labelView post →Cool gimmick, Good and smooth execution. Wished it was longer and crazier in its design.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Absolute gem of a game.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This game is pretty great. It captures a lot of the Slay the Spire fum without being a complete ripoff. The dice are random, of course, but there are lots of ways to mitigate the randomness so runs feel very fair. After a few dozen hours, I've gotten all of the endings and most of the achievements. The last big achievement (Archeologist, spelled like that) is based on what equipment is randomly available each run, and I don't feel like grinding for that one. Other than that, I highly…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Stopped playing it immediately when I realized you have to control the enemy units to hit yourself. Don't want to code enemy ai? Just have the player do it themselves.

neutral · AI labelView post →I feel that the game has more potential that what it actually gives. It is fun, but it takes too long to unlock all the chimeras and as each run only lets you use three, so experimenting takes forever. But I like the designs and the battling system is enjoyable.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Cute and personal art style with polished gameplay, nothing special but a fun play!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I like this game especially since it much more forgiving that other roguelikes I have played like Slay the Spire. I can win every other game on this one so far. This is really refreshing. In Slay the spire I had to play about 20 hrs before the first win. Combat system is super fun, because you choose your enemy moves, timing and order! It's not perfect, but it's fun.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Not quite on the level of slay the spire, but definetely one of the best in the genre.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Dicefolk is a mobile app that's been dumped on Steam as if it was a real PC game (it's not)... it's a cash grab from greedy mobile devs. This mobile app is <<<<<< ABOOOUUUUUUT >>>>>> This mobile app is at a core level, a very lazy ripoff of Slay the Spire with cartoony anime reject artwork, and a mechanic where the CCG aspect of the game (you know, the best part) is replaced with a crappy "action dice" mechanic... and weirdly, not quite understanding how dice games work, you have to roll the…

neutral · AI labelView post →I played some creature collecting and a lot of dice- or card-based games, and I can say that "Dicefolk" is outstanding in all of those genres! + excellent (and accessible, by the way) graphics that conjure retro aesthetics together with charming character and creature look + a ton of cute creatures, all with their own characteristics + a descent dice mechanic in which you improve dice, buy more, and get those relic-stuff you love when playing roguelikes + the best of it all: the synergies…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →It's a neat and chill game, I've been having a lot of fun with it. There are many layers of strategic decisions you can make, but overall it's very easy to pick up, both to learn the game and to open up the game. The tutorial system is probably the best I've seen, though it's probably greatly helped by the intuitive gameplay and user interface. Each game is slightly on the longer side, taking me about 1.5h for a successful run. The losses for me are not too frustrating, usually the team…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →This is another amazing rogue-like game that is def worth a try for any fan of rogue-like games.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Very enjoyable take on a monster collector rogue like. It has some good depth, but some chimera are so much stronger than others. Once you step up the difficulty it really is difficult to pick totally different strategies to win at the hardest difficulty. The different talismans help with this, but some are just blatantly weaker than others. Overall I loved playing this and was great to 100%, but lacks the depth and nuance that some of the genre leaders like Slay the Spire have.
