There's so much about this game that's great. The atmosphere and monster design is interesting, the fundamental gameplay loop is fun and a good kind of stressful, and the sound design is spectacular, which satisfying crystalline tinkles and intermittent noise that makes the sounds feel atmospheric rather than video-gamey. Critics, per Wikipedia

According to the review aggregator website Metacritic, Dome Keeper received "generally favorable reviews". PC Gamer called the game a "simple yet nuanced roguelike." and praised the weapons and resource management gameplay, but noted the game's short playtime and a few minor technical issues. Shacknews appreciated the simplicity of gameplay design and execution, but said that the gameplay could become predictable after several playthroughs. In a more critical review, Eurogamer felt that the game was "as divided as my thoughts are on it" and said that the mining and tower defense gameplay struggled because of how the game divided its attention between both genres.

ICYDK: Godot, the open-source game creation software used to make Dome Keeper, Cassette Beasts, and Brotato, has a VERY beginner-friendly series of online tutorials here. gdquest.github.io/learn-gdscri... It says it requires absolutely zero prior experience with coding, and it means it.

[If the name 'Motherload' jingles any bells in your decrepit old dome piece, you've come to the right place] Are you old? Did you play a stupid flash game called Motherload in the early 2000s, where you had a crappy mining ship, dug your way down to hell, and fought the devil at the end? What if you could play a version of that game that was actually good? One with audio that's not awful, with actual artistic intention, and with real game mechanics instead of... whatever that old stuff was?…

I really like this game but I'm not going to play it anymore if the generation of the cave system can functionally softlock me and I only get to figure that out 15 minutes into any given challenge run. Not getting anymore than 26 badges. I think that if a roguelike lacks enough options for players to get to actually adapt to the RNG absolutely screwing you over (which is what happens for me essentially 9/10 times) then it's just a bad game. Stop emulating the worst part of Rogue which is the…

Dome Keeper is one of those games that pulled me in immediately. It genuinely feels like it was made for the Steam Deck. I’m playing it on a Steam Deck OLED in docked mode on an external Asus ZenScreen 1080p OLED Screen at stable 60 FPS. In this setup the game runs flawlessly, looks razor sharp, and remains perfectly readable at all times. The visuals don’t reinvent the wheel, but they are clean, intentional, and highly functional. From the main menu to the in-game UI, the information flow is…

Dome Keeper shines as a tight, bite sized roguelike that’s perfect for short sessions anywhere from 20 to 45 minutes depending on map size and difficulty. It’s incredibly easy to pick up, but there’s enough depth beneath the surface to keep you engaged run after run. The core loop of digging for resources under constant time pressure while racing back to defend your dome never really gets old. Each wave forces meaningful decisions do you push your luck and mine deeper, or play it safe and…

There's so much to like about this game. The art style, animation, movement, combat, all great, however, there is a glaring problem. While I do think this could be a great game once you get past the first 10+ hours, it shouldn't take that long to unlock parts of the game that are actually fun. I've already sunk 10+ hours into the game and feel like I'm stuck at the beginning with just a few upgrades. In multiplayer everyone has to delegate to having one person babysit the tower, & upgrading one person for mining while everyone else operates as feeble slave coal miners empowering the base & upgraded miner. The game really needs to change to a token system for multiplayer upgrades, as that would allow the group to buy a token that’d be shared for upgrades… instead we just have everyone fighting for resources which leads to either one person getting upgrades, or everyone getting nothing as it…

I was recently looking for a game that would be a perfect fit for the Steam Deck and unexpectedly discovered Dome Keeper. I've always enjoyed "tower defense" games, but Dome Keeper isn't exactly one. Yes, there are waves of monsters, but instead of building dozens of defensive towers, you have to personally return to your dome and defend it yourself. Because of that, the gameplay boils down to two repeating phases: gather resources – fight monsters. There are only three main resources in the…

This is such a fun game. The core gameplay loop is extremely simple and repetitive, yet the Devs took great care of replayability and variety by adding a plethora of fun scenarios, gadgets, and tools to keep the experience interesting and fresh. Because of that, runs and your approach to winning scenarios can feel vastly different. On top of that, I'm looking very much forward to the upcoming multiplayer update which should be a blast. Highly recommended!

Great chill game, rather you're looking for a challenge, or to just vibe and dig. Has quick maps for short sessions, and huge ones that you can easily spend an hour digging out. It's easy to unlock pretty much everything, in fact, I think it's too easy. The progression is locked mostly to how much you play, not a progress path like story or challenges. That being said, I don't think there is any story, and the challenge mode is limited, only giving a few meaningful rewards. All this…

Great game for casual players or tired parents; a single run can easily be finished in one evening. I really appreciate the ever-expanding content and the recently added multiplayer. Kudos to the dev team.

Dome Keeper is an amazingly addictive game and has come a long way since i first played. Development is STILL happening, and even without development the gameplay has hundreds of hours worth of content. If you like logistics, resource management and combat that can sometimes feel very stressful, dome keeper is absolutely for you.

It…
