Donut County
Developer Ben Esposito
Donut County is a puzzle video game developed by American designer Ben Esposito and published by Annapurna Interactive in 2018. The player moves a hole to swallow objects, which makes the hole increase in size. The concept originated in a game jam based on pitches from a Twitter account parody of game designer Peter Molyneux and later added a mechanic similar to that of Katamari Damacy. What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 241 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (11,256 of 12,214 positive).
Players describe Donut County as a short, charming, and relaxing game with a unique hole-swallowing mechanic. [1][2][3] Many compare it to Katamari Damacy, but with a hole in the ground instead of a rolling ball. [4][5][6] Some reviewers note the game is best enjoyed on sale due to its brief length and limited replay value. [7][8][9]

I like putting random stuff in the hole and making it progressively bigger. It doesn't have to be a complex puzzle to be entertaining. However, I can't recommend the game at full price because it doesn't provide many levels or much playtime in general. Additionally, the humor doesn't land for me at all. I honestly think I would have enjoyed the game more if it didn't have any story or dialogue.

Donut County is such a weird little game, but in a good way. The concept is simple, just swallow everything, but it stays fresh with creative level design. The humor is goofy and charming without overstaying its welcome. It’s perfect if you want something short and relaxing.

Donut County is short, weird, and absolutely delightful. I just finished the game with 100% achievements, and honestly every minute of it was fun. The humor is silly in the best way, the characters are charming, and the “make a bigger hole and eat the whole world” gameplay never stopped feeling satisfying. It’s a relaxing, no-stress game with a unique personality, great music, and simple mechanics that somehow stay …

A game where you play as a hole in the ground, ruin an entire town's lives for a plastic drone, and blame it on a trash-obsessed raccoon. Pros: + Super satisfying gameplay loop (reverse Katamari) + Hilarious, modern, text-speak dialogue + You can quack on command in the main menu Cons: - It ends too soon Honestly, the Trashopedia descriptions alone are worth the entry price. Grab it on a sale, grab a snack, and …

Donut County is a cute, family oriented game that is perfect for bringing everyone together for a good laugh. It is utterly enjoyable and doesn't require any stressful skill challenges. I love this game so much that I've actually bought it on almost every platform. The soundtrack is fantastic, the gameplay mechanics are incredibly relaxing and it's exactly the kind of game that soothes you after a long day. I really …

60 of 435 · most liked firstMy first impressions of Donut County are: it's cool! The game is a narrative-heavy game, and during the gameplay segments you play as a hole in the ground! Your objective is to collect all of the objects in the area, and the hole increases in size with every object collected! It's fun so far!

positive · AI labelView post →Donut County has a level that makes cool use of the lighting in the game! A flashlight falls into the hole, and you use said flashlight for illumination to navigate the level! It's a unique approach to a level, and it shows off the awesome lighting effects that the game has! It's a neat level!
positive · AI labelView post →In terms of the vibe of Donut County, it's chill! The game's story is laid-back, it has an unserious tone with the characters often joking around about the events in the game 😊 the game also has a soundtrack that has both relaxed and bumping tracks, and the art style is awesome! A couple games popped up on my Steam wishlist at really low prices so I was thinking of getting them, but I’ve also had a few older computers recently that are losing Steam client support. This got me thinking I should really try to compare and get more games on GOG so it doesn’t matter if a client stops working on older hardware. But also following this community has had me thinking a Steam Deck makes a lot of sense for me, so maybe I’ll try to get…

neutral · AI labelView post →Donut County! It's on Android, iOS, switch, etc. The gameplay is so simple but fun, where you control a hole in the ground and try to swallow objects that fit inside. It grows with every object so you can fit bigger items, with a goal to eat all objects in a level. And the story is so cute and funny
positive · AI labelView post →Switch game recommendations. Looking for game recommendations for my 4 year old who just got a Switch for Christmas. He's having a good time with Donut County, and likes running around the town in Stardew Valley, but looking for something else. Doesn't have to be super kids-y, but easy, chill, no lose condition or time limits. Thoughts?
neutral · AI labelView post →Donut County is a really good Katamari-like game. (probably best on mobile because it's pretty casual)

positive · AI labelView post →18. Donut County - 2 hrs 40 min What a delightful & ridiculous little game. The idea of making a game where you control a hole that gets bigger every time something falls in it is brilliant. The story was silly & fun. The music was rad. The simple & cartoony aesthetic was really cute. Fun times!
positive · AI labelView post →Finished Donut County ✅ This is such a silly game where you play as a hole and move around eating up everything on screen. Weird af but charming at the same time. Thanks again @onionpete.bsky.social gifting this strange game 🤣

Delving into what this indie is all about, the goal of Donut County is to…

neutral · AI labelView post →A fun game that is replayable over and over. It's not a brain teaser, it's just good humor and it somewhat makes me feel like it's similar to Katamari Damacy but with a hole in the ground and not with a ball rolling around. Similar but still pretty different. I really enjoyed this game.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don’t think there’s enough substance to warrant buying at full price, but when it's on sale for $5 or less then it’s worth the couple of hours it takes to play through. It’s similar to Katamari Damacy in that you gather up smaller objects to be able to gather up bigger ones. However, the small environments don’t facilitate any real sense of exploration or discovery, nor are there any sort of alternate solutions or sense of improvement upon previous performances. The only notable twist to the…

Over time you notice you can suddenly swallow up slightly bigger things as your hole starts to grows. Sometimes you'll see something huge and think, I'm ready to take that. But no matter how hard you try, it simply doesn't fit. Sad times. You go back to working your way up until finally you can take that huge thing you failed on earlier and before you know…
