What players are saying
Counted from the reviewers’ own thumbs up/down on the 180 English Steam reviews we collected, not by the AI. Valve’s all-language rating: Very Positive (1,607 of 1,708 positive).
Players praise Downfall for its deep psychological horror and emotional storytelling. [1][2][3] Some reviewers find the game slow, confusing, or lacking the heart of The Cat Lady. [4][5][6] The game is widely seen as a strong entry in the Devil Came Through Here trilogy. [7][8][9]

The Cat Lady is still Harvester's best game, though all of them are flawed. If you really liked that game then you should probably play this one as it is connected and features some crossover lore that ALMOST saves the rest of the game. I didn't care about Joe and Ivy the way I did about Susan and Mitzi, though, and I don't think this one gets to the deeper levels that the other games do. Agnes is probably the most …

downfall doesn’t feel like a horror game that wants to scare you. it feels like a slow descent into someone’s broken mind. the violence and disturbing moments aren’t there for shock value, they’re there because the characters are already falling apart. joe isn’t a hero. he’s flawed, selfish, and drowning in guilt, and the game never tries to make that comfortable. the relationship at the center of the story feels …

Joe's journey is a tragic exploration of love and loss. His descent into madness is portrayed with a raw honesty that elicits both sympathy and unease. It's a stark reminder of the fragility of the human mind. Puzzles are integrated seamlessly into the narrative, thus they enhance the storytelling rather than detract from it, maintaining the game's immersive experience. In essence, Downfall is a disturbing, …

I enjoyed Downfall more than The Cat Lady. The events bounce around less and most of the game takes place in the same hotel. The puzzles are also more straight forward, which fits the story heavy game better in my opinion. The events can be gory and there are some unsettling things, but I wouldn't call the game scary. It has a good atmosphere, though. The animations have been improved, I liked the music better and …

Downfall - is when the graphics seem simple, but the psychological impact is in 4K.

neutral · AI labelView post →This is the 2nd game of the Devil Came Through Here Trilogy. Another great story just like the Cat Lady, although some of the game plots are open for interpretation. The game is fully voiced and done well. Overall a great experience as a mild horror game. Most of the achievements are easy to get. The endings B and C achievements could be a little bit tricky. For reference, first run took me 5+ hours, subsequent runs are around 2-3 hours.

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Downfall is as excellent as The Cat Lady, if not more. I love how they connected the two games and brought back some characters as cameos. Not much has changed technically, but that's not an issue with this type of game.

neutral · AI labelView post →i loved this game, it actually made me emotional at times... such an accurate portrayal of mental health issues in relationships also i LOVE the early 00s emo art and dialogue and the music, and ofc the silent hill 2 plot, i just love this series so so much!!!
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Downfall, developed by Harvester Games and published by Screen 7, is a deeply disturbing psychological horror adventure that explores the darkest corners of the human mind. The story follows Joe Davis, an ordinary man who decides to take his wife Ivy to a remote countryside hotel in an attempt to repair their crumbling marriage. What begins as a quiet retreat quickly turns into a nightmarish descent into guilt, madness, and violence. As the couple settles into the Quiet Haven Hotel, reality…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →One of my favorite games. I keep coming back to it and its still enjoyable. Joe and ivy are a couple having some issues so they decide to take a vacation to a hotel. There Joe and Ivy get separated. Joe tries his best to find Ivy while meeting some colorful characters. Its a very strong story about being spirited away and trying to help the one you love the only way you know how. Even if that isnt the best way.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it is pretty apparent that this is based off of the first game they made but it still is good. the artwork is amazing the animation is choppy at some points and the voice acting is also mid sometimes but besides that it is great. it has great writing and good artwork. overall a solid game but it has its flaws. resident evil vibes for sure. Very charming.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great story, great imagery and a soundtrack that makes this game almost feel like a movie. The sensitive topics were handled really well. It's just as good as The Cat Lady, just sadly a lot shorter.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →11/10 stay loyal to wife >:P grrrr
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A descent into madness. Wonderfully creepy.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Downfall is a direct continuation of The Cat Lady, and by that means, it maintains the main qualities and characteristics of the first game. Both explore the dark and introspective themes of mental illness, the human condition, and personal suffering, told through a complex, non-linear narrative filled with grotesque and horrific symbolism. At the same time, Downfall presents a different perspective with a new character, who has traits and objectives that starkly contrast with The Cat Lady's…
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I absolutely adore this game, would highly recommend. I can't tell you how many times I finished this game, still doesn't get me bored. The storyline is the one that makes me an addict of playing it. If you enjoy story based thrilling games, that's probably the one that you're looking for.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Great story. Fantastic artwork. Every background is setup in perfect hierarchy and chaotic/eerie harmony. The tunes are fantastic and give this horror game an in depth horror feel. Sound effects are on point as well. I always want Joe to be the best Joe he can be T ~ T... (Pls.) Love your wife and cherish her forever. Joe Davis beats James Sunderland as a husband any day. I said what I said.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Step into the mind of a serial killer. All of its gory visuals are extreme, but the psychological part has the real shock value and is far more subtle.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I think I love everything R Michalski makes. This is just as good as The Cat Lady, who even appears in the game. Playing The Cat Lady first will probably improve the experience, but this definitely works as a standalone as well. Anyway, this is a psychological horror masterpiece. The atmosphere is perfect, the story is excellent, and everything is horrifying in the best way possible.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →The story and psychological tension hit me so hard that I actually ended up seeing a psychologist after finishing the game. I don't regret it for a second. Highly recommended. The soundtrack is simply outstanding.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Good plot. It's a little annoying that you have to constantly move around the entire hotel. Definitely worth a try for at least a couple of hours – it might keep you hooked for a long time.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Surreal game which makes player do a lot of hard and questionable decisions.
