Many players feel the game's monetization is predatory and punishes early buyers. [1][2][3][4] Some reviewers praise the nostalgic, chaotic fun and fluid combat. [5][6][7][8] Others criticize the lack of content, balance issues, and missing features. [9][10][11][12]

As someone who has played a ton of Dragon Ball games, bought plenty of season passes, and genuinely loves this franchise, the way DRAGON BALL: Sparking! ZERO is being monetized feels increasingly predatory. The base game costs $69.99. The Deluxe Edition costs $99.99. The Ultimate Edition costs $109.99. The Season Pass costs $34.99 separately. I bought the Deluxe Edition because it included the Season Pass. Paying …

I have had this Steam account for 19 years, and with almost 600 hours of this game on here and 225 hours on the Xbox! Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO is currently my most-played game on steam. I loved it so much that I supported it heavily from day one, pre-ordering the $230 Premium Collector's Edition on Xbox and buying the $110 Ultimate Edition here on Steam. I never thought I would write a negative review for a game …

Finally a DBZ game that doesn't suck Dragonbaaaaaalls. This game will really make you FEEL like Frieza, but twice as racist. You can be Goku, the guy from Fortnite!! Yes playing this game reduces the amount of girls that are interested in you but it's a fun game and you can make Vegeta blow himself up in this game, so it's a good trade off. This was the game I always dreamed of as a kid when I only had DB Final Bout …

I love Sparking Zero. That's why this hurts. This game could've been something incredible. The foundation was there from day one! However the Devs waited too long to fix obvious balance problems, and by the time those updates finally hit, the community had already died out. Today in my opinion the game is fantastic... but it's too late. The customisation we were promised was never expanded, the roster all be it big …

Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero has amazing visuals, and the story was a ton of fun to play, especially the “What If” scenarios. However, the game was dropped by the developers pretty quickly, and the DLC adds nothing but new characters. This game is a perfect example of how quickly a title can fall if the developers care more about money than the game itself. It’s still fun to play with friends, but it’s definitely not …

negative · AI labelView post →Feels like we're being punished for buying the game early considering I spent 100$ on the ultimate edition and now the legendary edition is 90$ with neo. So if I buy the dlc thats 135$ vs I could have waited and got it all for 90$ Kina bs.

Do the math, what the ♥♥♥♥ are we actually doing Bandai. Instead of paying for a $20 upgrade, I need to spend another $32.95 on top of that. Absolutely zero respect for consumers. negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →I don't regret pre-ordering the ultimate edition of this game, as I genuinely had fun within the first week of its release. I truly believed, at the time, that we had a dragon ball game that would last us a generation, and be a milestone within the dragon ball community. I, along with many other people who believed in this game, turned out to be wrong. I cannot recommend this game because its developers do not believe in it, because simple tweaks and additions, like costume changes and…

positive · AI labelView post →I bought the Ultimate edition of this game on release and they have now removed the Ultimate Edition from the Steam page. They recently made a Legendary Edition that includes all the same things that the Ultimate Edition had, but it also includes the new NEO DLC for the same price that the Ultimate Edition was. This means that I would need to spend an additional $35+ to play the NEO DLC even though people who buy the current Legendary Edition would not. The Ultimate Edition and Legendary…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →it's ok, my biggest issue is it isn't like the original tenkaichi series the game seems to be in conflict with itself, on one hand, it wants to be like the original tenkaichi series with it's flashy attacks, and some of the attacks do deliver on this. but it also wants to be a more serious fighter like Mortal Combat or Street Fighter, so health bars are toned down, fights are generally shorter, and attacks that could be flashier, are not. this game should have been more like tenkaichi by…

positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →You like Dragon ball? Thinking about picking up this game just to have a recent DB game to play? Don't do it. TL;DR Sparking Zero legit launched with a "half done" story mode and basic battle modes like duel and world tournament for a full $65 USD giving a "bare bones" game. So much so, basic features from earlier entries in the same franchise (from 20 year old games on inferior tech) put Sparking Zero to shame. A January 2026 update added Mission 100 mode and there are still problems…

positive · AI labelView post →I'm glad they're releasing the Neo stuff this game sorely needs it, but let's be honest that should have all been in the game from the beginning. It feels like a slap to anyone who bought the game and have it release in the state it did only to then fix it later with paid DLC. Especially for those of us dumb enough to buy the ultimate edition.

negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →A good chunk of the roster is gutted to be resold as DLC. I don't give good reviews for fighting games that follow this trend. The last 3 games didn't do this, but hey, what other standard do you expect from a neo-20's release?
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Buy the ultimate edition of the game, still dont get the new DLC at even a discounted price. Imagine charging $35 for a DLC that has content that should have been included in the games launch. Don't but the new DLC.
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →My biggest issue with the game is the huge lack of impacts, i'm talking about every punch, kick, they don't look nor sound painful like in BT3 and especially super/ultimate attacks, while graphically beautiful they lack impact, and also lack the huge dome like explosions like in the anime. Doesn't have that Dragon Ball Z feeling to it(BT2 and BT3 had it)
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Sparking Zero gives me a Sparking Zero enjoyment. Combat is clunky, The DLC that came with the deluxe edition was utterly dissapointing and the DLC that came thereafter featured much that should have been in the base game, tried to give it a chance but I'd rather they just ported BT2 or 3 to PC with modern online matchmaking.

Instead of fulfilling the expected long-term value of the Ultimate tier, major expansions, gameplay modes, and characters…
negative · reviewer's own thumbsView post →Buying this game felt like ordering a 5-course cheat meal, only for each dish to arrive colder and sadder than the last. By dessert, I wasn't full. I was just in debt to disappointment. The hype was over 9000 for sure. Online is a digital daycare where everyone’s connection is held together by hopes and prayers, there's like 1k max players daily. This game died really fast and I wish I spent my 70$ better.

Worth it on a decent discount. Now, here's the thing - I've been a fan of Budokai games since the PS2 era, and they give some nice memories. Sparking Zero is a modernized Tenkaichi (Sparking) game, with updated graphics and combat mechanics. neutral · AI labelView post →It's not bad, but not great. Fighting system feels rough and the attacks seem rather limited. Has a long story mode covering many different arcs of the series, and some real nice graphics but otherwise it just wasn't as fun as previous entries. To be honest I wish they'd focus more on branching out like they did with Kakarot and the old school ARPG titles on SNES and GBA. But still it's more Dragon Ball content so if you are a fan of the series it's worth adding to your collection.
positive · reviewer's own thumbsView post →i was so excited when this game was first announced. I paid the biggest price because i truly believed they finally made a game that was worth that insane price. i was so wrong. so much was missing, maps, characters, outfits. it was so underwhelming and now they finally released a really great DLC that adds all that and they want me to pay another 35 bucks for it after already spending over 100 bucks... thats ridiculous. maybe if theres a sale but i dont think its worth it anymore..

The gameplay is phenominal, it is the perfect modern Budokai Tenkaichi gameplay. However, there is not enough content to justify the regular price. All the DLC there is should have been included in the base game, and even if it were it still would not be enough content to justify the price point. Honestly, they should have just made Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot with this…
